《Arranged Love (Currently Being Edited)》Chapter 8 - Wedding Day

The next morning Eva was woken up very early and immediately whisked away to a salon inside the castle where a team of beauticians were waiting to do her hair and makeup. As she sat in the chair getting poked, prodded, tweezed and waxed she couldn't help but think about the fact that she had been looking forward to this day since she was a little girl. Her wedding day was supposed to be the happiest day of her life, yet here she was feeling miserable.
The thought of walking down the aisle to marry a stranger that didn't love her and didn't want to marry her, made her feel so sad. What was making it worse was that there was a documentary crew recording her every move and a professional photographer snapping what seemed like a million pictures so she had to put on a brave face and pretend to be happy.
That was hard because her heart felt heavy, like the weight of the world was on her chest. She felt numb and disconnected from herself and everything that was going on around her, sitting there in a trance with her brain shut off. She knew if she thought about it she would start crying and wouldn't be able to stop so she tried to think of anything else besides what was about to happen. Eva opened the book she had brought to distract herself from her thoughts and read while they spent the next hour fixing her hair.
When they were finished, they had taken her long, thick brown hair and put it in a loose low up-do with white flowers that looked pretty and sophisticated enough for a princess.
"Thank you. It looks beautiful," she told the beautician with a forced smile, letting out an exhale when she turned around.
Next they had a professional makeup artist apply her makeup and he was very meticulous and took his time to make sure she looked absolutely flawless. He did an airbrushed foundation and added a highlighter that gave her skin an ethereal dewy glow. Then he added tan eyeshadow highlighted in spots with white and dark brown eyeshadow to give it dimension and outlined her eyebrows and lash line, making her big blue eyes really pop. He gave her a natural shiny lip. It was the best her makeup had ever looked and she hardly recognized herself. Usually she went for an understated natural look and didn't even wear foundation because she didn't need it, but she had to admit it made her skin look great.
Astrid and her Mom helped her put on the corset, and the pouffy slip before slipping the wedding dress over her head and buttoning the back. Putting on the dress made it feel real. It truly looked like the perfect princess dress.

She stood back and looked in the long mirror at her reflection as they attached the tiara and long veil to the top of her head. It didn't feel like it was really her at all. She couldn't believe how beautiful she looked with the dress, hair and makeup all together.
"Eva! You look so beautiful!" Astrid squealed, with her mouth gaping open in shock. "You look like a fairytale princess!"
Eva took a deep breath and blinked to hold back the tears that wanted to fall, because she might look the part, but today wasn't going to be the fairytale wedding she had always dreamed of.
The photographer and documentary crew continued taking photos and video as the Queens and her bridesmaids gushed over how beautiful she was. She stood there looking at herself in the mirror, still in disbelief.
"It's about time sweetheart," her Mom said, looking over her shoulder at her reflection proudly.
"I'll be out there. I just need a minute," she said quietly and everyone cleared out of the room. Everyone except one person. She didn't realize she was in there at first because she stood so quietly in the corner, just looking at Eva.
Finally she broke the silence and said, "That dress would've looked a lot better on me."
Eva jumped, and then turned around and saw Rosalie standing there with tears in her eyes.
"I should be the one marrying Paulo today," she choked out between sobs. "I know if he could've chosen who he got to marry he would've picked me. If I was a princess we would've already been married years ago. He's in love with me."
Eva scrunched her eyebrows and asked, "Is that what he told you?"
Rosalie sniffled, wiping a tear. "No but he doesn't have to tell me. I already know. I can just tell by the way he looks at me that he's in love."
Hearing that felt like a knife in her chest. If the man that was going to be her husband really was in love with someone else that would make her feel even worse about this wedding than she already did.
"How does it feel knowing he's only marrying you because his family is making him because you're a princess?"
Eva looked down at her hands and said, "Probably about as good as it feels knowing you can't marry him because you're not one."
Right then there was a knock at the door interrupting them and her twin brother Kristoff came in. His eyes widened when he looked at her.
"Wow Eva. You look amazing," he said with a big smile, looking her up and down like he couldn't believe it.

He stepped inside and gave her a hug and she saw his eyes getting misty and Rosalie shot her one last jealous glare before slipping out the door.
"I just came in to say it's time to get lined up."
"Ok," she said, taking a deep breath in and letting it out. She was more nervous than she could remember ever being in her entire life.
She walked out the door and Kristoff silently led her down a long empty stone hallway. They came around a corner and she saw her friend Astrid looking beautiful in a long very pale pink silk dress talking to her parents.
"Everyone needs to line up!" the wedding coordinator called out before quickly ushering Eva over to where her Dad was waiting. He was looking very Kingly in his official royal suit with the sash and medallions, wearing the gold bejeweled crown on his head and his royal dark red robe.
As Eva walked up and took his arm he smiled and she gave him a pained smile back.
"You look so beautiful sweetheart. You remind me of your mother on our wedding day," he said tearing up.
She wondered if her Mom had been as scared and miserable on their wedding day as she was.
"It's time!" the wedding coordinator called out and then the large wooden cathedral doors opened and the sight was so beautiful it took Eva's breath away and her mouth fell open in awe.
There was a long aisle of wooden pews with large stone columns, a very tall ceiling with stone archways and large stained glass windows. The aisles had been decorated with fresh flower arrangements and there was a white lace runner that went down the entire length of the aisle. Large candelabra stands were lit up along the walkway, and rays of sunlight were streaming in through the stained glass windows making it look unrealistically beautiful.
She looked down at her feet as she heard the antique pipe organ beginning to play and the choir started to sing a hauntingly beautiful song that echoed through the cathedral as the procession started.
Her father reached over and lowered her veil over her face and they watched several members of her court walk out arm in arm and finally Kristoff and Astrid walked out right before the little flower girl went ahead of them, scooping white rose petals from a little basket and dropping them as she went.
She watched her walk down the aisle, realizing it was their turn next and her nerves started getting the best of her and she struggled to breathe.
"Calm down. You can do this," her Dad whispered reassuringly.
She took a deep breath in and let it out and finally the wedding coordinator pointed to them and whispered, "It's your turn."
She started walking slowly down the very long aisle, thinking in her head 'left together right together' holding onto her Dad's arm as she looked over at the pews full of people that she didn't recognize that were all staring at her in awe.
She heard a woman whisper, "She's so beautiful isn't she?" as her mouth was gaping open. There was a little girl looking up at her with big eyes as she walked by and she thought, this must look like such a fairy tale dream wedding to her.
She turned her head and looked forward as she walked slowly and saw the priest at the end of the long aisle wearing a very tall white pointed hat and a red and white robe with a big red cross on it.
Astrid and a couple of Eva's cousins were at the end of the aisle on the left wearing matching very pale pink silk dresses and Astrid was smiling at her and wiping away a tear. She looked over to the right and there was a man standing to the right of the priest turned around, facing away from her.
That brought back a memory of how she used to daydream about seeing her groom's surprised reaction when he saw her the first time walking down the aisle in her dress and how he would tear up because she looked so beautiful. She would be lucky if Paulo even looked at her at all. He probably couldn't care less what she looked like today. As he started to turn around she looked down at the floor, avoiding looking at him because at least that way she wouldn't be disappointed when he didn't have the reaction she had dreamed of.
The perfect, handsome groom waiting up there for her wasn't in love and didn't want to marry her. He was being forced into this and that thought made her bottom lip quiver. She bit into it and fought really hard to keep the tears from coming because she didn't want to ruin her makeup or make a scene when this was being broadcast live all over the world, being watched by millions of people.
When they got to the end of the aisle her dad slowly raised her veil and gave her a kiss on the cheek before taking her hand and joining it to Paulo's.
Feeling the touch of his hand made her skin tingle, but she still didn't raise her head to look at his face. She just couldn't bring herself to do it.
