《Bad Intentions》Fourty-Three

"Did you find anything?" Allison asked.

"I don't know." I muttered under my breath.

We were currently in Dominic's head office. He left for his business meeting not too long ago and took all his important people with him. He left Allison in charge, no watchful eyes on her.

This gave us an opportunity.

I looked through his cabinets and folders to find anything related to my dad. Any small clue.

"You know he won't hide anything in plain sight." She said scouring through his desk. Delicate enough to keep everything in place.

I sighed. "I know. Where would this bastard hide things?"

"You know, I like her." She changed the topic and I knew exactly who she was referring to.

"Nope. Not doing this." I told her as I continue to look for any hidden spaces.

"Jace, I'm your girlfriend and as your girlfriend I am telling you not to screw it up with Leah." She said with her hands on her hips.

"You're not really my girlfriend. And there is nothing to screw up. Leah and I are nothing. I'm just helping her out with an issue." I told her.

She laughed. "You are not fooling a soul."

"What is that suppose to mean?"

"It's clear as day that you have feelings for her." Allison said checking behind a picture frame.

I stayed silent.

Maybe she was right.

But it's not like I can act on them.

"Even if I do and I'm not saying I do. I can't bring her into this world. I can't put her in danger."

Allison looked me in the eyes. "That should be more than any to find our answers and we need to find them quick."

"Why do you say that?" I asked.

"Because I got some intel that Dominic is planning something huge and it's happening soon."

"Huge, like what?" I questioned.

"Like trying to over take the second highest mafia in the country."

I paused.

"You know what that means, lots of bloodshed, broken families and so much grief."

Fuck.

Allison's phone began to ring. She pulled it out, but accidentally dropped it on the ground behind Dominic's desk.

"Ah damn. If we were trying to be silent, we would be dead by now." She said picking up her phone.

"Wait." I told her. "Drop your phone again on that same spot."

She looked at me like I had two heads. "Just do it."

She obliged and dropped her phone again. "Did you hear that?" I asked her.

"Hollow. It's hollow." She said with excitement.

I rushed over to here she was standing and lifted the floor board up. Deep beneath was a safe. Locked by a keypad.

"Shit." I cursed running a hand through my hair in frustration. "What could the code be?"

Allison looked thoughtful for a moment, before typing in a few numbers. The light turned green signaling it was unlocked.

"What was the code?" I asked her, confused on how she got it on her first try.

She gave me a sad smile. "My mother's birthday."

I nodded understanding her sadness. I opened the safe to see stacks of paper, money and a few pieces of jewelry.

I picked up the stack of papers and started to rifle through them. Looking for some clues.

I was down on my luck until I found a newspaper article. 'One dead after fatal car crash.' The article title read and I skimmed through the article to find the date of the accident. It was the day my father died.

This article was about my father. I took out my phone and took a picture of it.

Why does Dominic have this? If he didn't murder my father , why does he have this?

"Did you find something?" Allison asked.

I showed her the article. "This is about my dad."

Her eyes widen. "Are you sure?"

"The day of the accident is the day he died. The same way."

I flipped through a few more pages to find another article. This one was dated a week after my father's accident. 'Victim of fiery car accident succumbs to injuries.'

Two car accidents in one week?

This can't be a coincidence.

I snapped another picture of this article.

"You have a lead." Allison said looking through some documents.

"I guess you can say that." I told her placing back the papers in the safe once I was done looking through. "If my father's accident was actually an accident, why does he have the article?"

"I'm not sure."

"From what I gathered, he wasn't fond of my dad."

She snapped a few pictures with her phone of the documents in front of her.

"Did you find something?" I questioned.

"I won't know until I do some research." She smiled and place the documents back on the safe.

We locked the safe and placed it back exactly how we found it and laid down the floor board.

"Let's get out of here before someone finds us." I told her.

"Way ahead of you." She said walking to the office door. She opened it and looked both ways to make sure the coast was clear.

We made it to her car in under two minutes.

"I am not fit for spy duty." She said once in the car. She grabbed a water bottle and chugged.

"You're not fit at all." I teased.

"It's not my fault I hate the gym." She whined.

I chuckled. "Who was calling you back there?"

"Oh right!" She looked at her phone and an instant blush covered her cheeks.

"Let me guess. River." I teased her again.

"Shut up!" She said smacking my arm trying to hide her embarrassment.

"Just date already." I said rubbing my arm. She may not go to the gym, but she is strong.

"You and Leah first." She countered.

I shook my head at here.

"Exactly."

"Whatever." I muttered under my breath.

"Let's get out of here." She placed the car on drive and sped off.

My mind was reeling.

My dad's accident.

Two car crashes.

One week apart.

Could these be related?

But how?
