'I'm that bad type

Make your mama sad type

Make your girlfriend mad tight

Might seduce your dad type'

"Where's Ray?" Blake asks, lounging on my couch. It was a mistake telling him where my home is, especially after trying to kiss Ray.

"Why?" I glare, knowing he meant nothing bad but I'd like to keep him on thin ice.

"No reason, I was just wondering," he puts his hands up in mock surrender.

"She went to her medical school to try and register for online classes instead of actual class," I say.

"Why would she do that? Have you really become that possessive?" He grimaces.

"Sure," I take the hit, not wanting to tell him about Ray's pregnancy just yet.

"Why not?" I ask Ray that has just told me not to tell anyone. "I wasn't going to do it, but it's strange for you not to want to tell everyone."

"Well," she begins, "I wouldn't want getting their hopes up during the first trimester in case anything happens," she shudders.

"What's going to happen? I thought you were healthy," I say, my heart picking up the pace.

"Oh, I am!" She reassures me. "It's just universally known, or so I thought, not to tell anyone about pregnancy before three months have passed since the baby is very fragile. Doesn't mean anything's wrong."

So I sat there (bbq sauce on my titties), feeling like a dumb millennial as she explained when we would tell everyone and see the baby for the first time.

"I'm starting class next month, I need to figure something out," she sighs.

"Do you have to go?" I ask, knowing the answer already.

"Yes! I want a full time job eventually," she huffs. "Also once the baby comes, I probably will take a year or two off so it's better I finish the most I can this year."

"Ew, stop smiling like that," Blake snaps me out of my daze.

"Like what?" I ask.

"I don't know, just stop smiling to yourself," he shudders, and I immediately turn back to a frown.

"Have you talked to your parents?" He asks out of the blue.

"Why?" I ask, confused.

"Your dad dropped by the office today morning and he was asking about you," he tells me.

"I'll give him a call later in the day," I say, not bothered enough to do it at the moment. Especially not since my mom has not fully accepted Ray into my family.

I hear footsteps towards the couch and then a hand is placed on top of my eyes. The familiar smell of the lavender shampoo hits.

"Wow, I love third wheeling," Blake unnecessarily adds.

"Hi sunshine," I gently peel her hand away and see her smiling at me.

"Hi Blake," she greets him by messing up his hair.

"Hey kid," he greets back.

"What are you doing back so early?" I wonder.

"Well, I didn't necessarily go to the college," she confesses and we both raise an eyebrow. "Do you remember the secretary spot in your company that was open?"

"Yes."

"I dug around to find anyone that didn't recognize me as your partner so they could have an unbiased opinion," she begins, "And turns out there's a lot of people so I went for an interview."

"Why would you do that when the spot has your name on it?" I rub my forehead, feeling wrinkles forming.

"Because I don't want to depend on you in everything!" She tells me. "Plus, I wanted someone else to see if I was capable to do the job."

"Wait, what am I missing? What about the clinic?" Blake butts in.

"I quit that job, but I'll still help if they need extra hands since they're all my third family," she says. Her second family is the Mallows which she told me a couple of days ago when we got engaged.

"I thought it was a good job?"

"It's in a sketchy part of town so I figured if I can find a better job, it wouldn't hurt."

"Okay, so did you get the secretary job?" I sigh, feeling as if this situation is ridiculous. She's a prodigy in everything she does, I don't know why she needs confirmation.

"They need to revise it first," she says and I shake my head.

"I can put a good word in," Blake says.

"No!" She's quick to deny. "You're best friends with the owner, how do you think your good word will look?"

"Important?"

"Exactly! Besides, Ace wouldn't hire someone that makes unreasonable decision," she tries to convince us.

"Will it satisfy you if I did nothing to help?" I ask, accepting defeat.

"Yes," she smiles widely. "Oh, I saw your dad!" And there goes my happy mood.

"Why is he still at the company?" I glare at Blake.

"How would I know?" He shrugs.

"I'll go deal with it," I grab my phone and shut down my laptop.

"I want to go," Ray perks up.

"You don't want to go rest?" I whisper once she's close enough.

"I'm feeling good today for the first in a while," she says, talking about her morning sickness. The horrid thing they don't say about morning sickness is that it's not just morning sickness. Apparently, it's an all day sickness. But I've only known about the pregnancy for around a week so I'm still trying to learn.

"Well then let's go," I place my hand on the small of her back.

And we walk, forgetting that Blake is in the house until Ray yells out to lock the door before leaving.

"We're keeping him in our home unsupervised?" I worry.

"Don't be mean," she laughs but I was completely serious.

"Good morning Mr. King," people greet me as I go up to my office, but I'm not in a great enough mood to respond.

As I turn the corner to my office, I see my dad talking on the phone and I immediately suck in a breath. When he sees me, he hangs up and walks towards me and Ray.

"Hi Ray, it's nice to see you again," my dad greets.

"Hi Richard," she greets. There's no denying the fact that my dad has been wonderful towards Ray, but he's still married to someone who isn't.

"What are you doing here?" I ask.

"Well you've been avoiding your mother and I for months now, then we suddenly hear about your Australia trip and yesterday I hear you two got engaged a while ago," he puts his stern face on like when I was a child and he would scold me.

"Dad, with all due respect, it didn't seem like you two would've understood my reasoning towards any of my actions," I tighten my hold on Ray to keep myself from disrespecting him too much.

"Hell yeah we don't. You're only in your early twenties and you're suddenly getting married," he huffs.

"How about we go to the office," Ray whispers to me as I take a deep breath in.

"We're out in the hallway, please follow me into my office," he leads Ray and I like he owns the building, parents.

"I don't understand why you have a problem with me getting married early when you and Mom got married earlier than us," I say when we got to the office.

"Your mother and I were very responsible and informed our parents before we did anything," he defends.

"Well, I didn't feel it was necessary for me, a 23 year old adult, to inform you the day of the engagement. Sure, we were going to tell you eventually, but you didn't give me a chance to," I say.

"I'm sorry for interrupting," Ray speaks up, "But I understand where you're coming from and if it would help at all, I would like to invite you to our home this Friday for dinner so we can talk it out properly with Mrs. King being there," and suddenly my dad looks satisfied.

"That sounds like a great idea," he says before I could veto the idea.

"I'm sorry you had to come all the way here just to hear some excuses. We will explain everything when your wife is also with us," Ray adds on.

"No, that's okay. I will go tell her about this Friday then," and so he bids us goodbye.

"...What just happened?" I ask, not getting my mind fully around it. "How did he go from yelling to leaving in two sentences?"

"You're his son, Ace. He only wants to feel included in your life," she tells me. "Imagine we find out our little bean got engaged without telling us and he or she haven't been calling us. I'm sure it would make me go crazy."

I stop to think about it for a minute. I guess I've been looking at my dad as an angry man instead of a worried father.

"You're going to make a great mother. No doubt in my mind about it," I hug her tightly.

"Ace, I told you to clean up your mess in the living room," I hear yelling from the kitchen as I'm buttoning up my shirt.

"They're going to be here in ten minutes, I don't understand the rush," I mumble to myself.

"Ten minutes is such little time," she yells at the top of her lungs, and I could've sworn the pillow started moving but I don't say anything else to upset her. Today she's been experiencing the worst headache and terrible mood swings.

"You're right," I quickly say back and go to help out. After I'm done with tidying the place up, I try to go help out in the kitchen.

"Thanks to myself, everything is already done," she glares at me but suddenly stops herself. "I'm sorry, I know I'm being annoying."

"You're okay babe," I chuckle softly as she leans her head on my chest.

When she hears the bell ring, she jumps and takes off her apron in light speed, dragging me with her to the door.

She fixes my cuffs and my hair, motioning for me to smile.

"Ray, they're my parents. I don't think I need to impress them with my looks," I whisper since we're in front of the closed door.

"It wouldn't hurt looking presentable," she shoots back but quickly plasters a smile on her face as she opens the door.

"Hello," she says, "Thanks for coming."

"Thanks for inviting us," my dad responds.

"Hi Mom," I say as she hugs me.

"I want to begin this by saying that I'm sorry for thinking you were deceiving our son," she says, which surprises Ray and I but my dad stood there with a proud smile. "I was sure you're a nice girl but I didn't want to think that. However, I've just been hearing so many wonderful things about you that I think it's time to accept I might've been the problem."

"No, that's okay!" Ray is quick to say. "A mama bear doesn't think before protecting her cubs."

"Exactly!" My mon gushes.

"Well, that was unexpected," I move to greet my dad as the both of them apologize further to each other.

"Your mom's heart was in the right place," he says.

As we walk to the dining room, my mom was very helpful towards helping Ray with he set up, and I've gotta say I've never been more confused. I want to say it's just because women are confusing but I think I understand them most of the time. I guess parents just want to torture their children.

"Mom, sit down please. I'll go help," I say, feeling as though it's too much too soon.

"Well, alright," she does so after a second.

"Your mom is very nice," Ray gushes. "I knew she was just worried about you."

"She's a good woman," I confirm.

"How did my geek son propose to you?" My mom asks Ray as she's picking at her food.

"Oh well," she looks at me with a faint smile, "He fell out of a helicopter that spelt out my name," she jokes and I shake my head.

"It felt like the right time so I popped the question up," I answer, wanting to keep something of it to ourselves.

"You didn't think of mentioning it to either of us?" My mom says with a sad smile.

"Mom, you didn't even try to be nice to Ray the first time you saw her. I didn't know at the time your views have changed, but I am sorry," I confess.

"Well, I'm just excited for the wedding now," she says.

Ray and I look at each other and with our telepathic powers decide it's best not to tell her there isn't going to be much of a wedding.

"Oh, let's just see how things play out," Ray says.

Sorry it took so long for this chapter to be out but I have officially started my preparations for all my exams that are coming up and it hasn't been easy to find free time at all. I can't promise a better schedule for a while at least not until very late march so I really hope you can be patient with me. The book is coming to an end slowly and I would really like to take my time to think about what happens next and give everyone a fulfilling end without rush.
