Chapter 16, I Don't Have a Chance
Sometimes people flirt unknowingly, but I like to think that I might have a chance.
Late for school, that's what I was when I realized that my alarm never rang, I rushed out of bed and brushed my teeth quickly before running to my room to grab some clothes.
I didn't have time to choose an outfit that made me look pretty, so I grabbed a pair of light brown sweat pants and a light brown croptop before racing to my black and white tie dye Crocs and slipping them on.
My black socks matched my Crocs so it was alright, I brushed my hair into a ponytail and added some gel before grabbing my phone and bookbag and running down the stairs quickly, I walked to the kitchen and began to make myself a ham and cheese sandwich.
I didn't have time to be a picky eater, I grabbed a water and then grabbed a coke bottle, placing it in my lunch box and then walking quickly to the front door.
After grabbing my keys, I raced outside of the house and now it was a race against time, I needed to win the race because I couldn't walk to school.
I wasn't late late but late enough that if the bus were to leave, I had to walk to school and then be late for class.
When I got to the bus stop, I sat down on the bench to catch my breath, running down the block is apart of my every day morning routine, but you gotta do what you gotta do to not be late for the bus.
Luckily, I got there like ten minutes ahead of time which meant that I'd be getting to class on time, the Lord was on my side today and I thank myself for being able to get here.

It's so easy to ruin someone's mood, and my mood was ruined when it began to rain and I didn't even bring an umbrella because I didn't have enough time to check the weather app, I got onto the bus and sat down at the back of it.
How was I supposed to get inside of the school without getting all wet, this was a disaster and I'm very much sure that Ronald Reagan is behind this because I passed my biology exam using Quizlet.
"Hey there pretty girl."
My face reacted before I did and I gave Ashton a disgusted face before realizing that it was him that said it, he smiled at me and I smiled back at him as he grabbed his book from his book bag.
Sometimes I forget that he takes the bus to school, there's times where we don't notice each other on the bus until the bus stops at the school and we walk with one another to class.
"Heads up next time Ash, what if I pepper sprayed you?"
I asked as I sat closer to him, he only let out a breathy chuckle and opened his book to start reading, I didn't want to disturb his time so I just stood quiet and looked out the window.
As we sat in silence, I thought about all the possibilities that I had whenever i was with Ashton, I could be his girlfriend but then he gives me mixed signals as if he isn't into me that way.
It was like we vibe but at the same time he didn't vibe the way I wanted us to vibe, by that I mean he didn't seem as if he wanted a girlfriend or even me as his girlfriend.
When the bus came to a stop, I shot up quickly and grabbed my bookbag before Ashton grabbed my hand and grabbed his.

"Didn't bring an umbrella, just stay close with me and we can share mine, yeah?"
Ashton bent down for him to whisper in my ear, i felt shivers down my spine as I nodded and waited for her to grab his umbrella.
He opened it and we walked outside together, staying dry from the ran, he wrapped his arm around my shoulder and smiled to himself.
We got into the school and he closed his umbrella before hugging me and walking to the library, I ran to the cafeteria and slammed my hands down at the table that my friends were sitting in which scared them but when they saw my big smile, they knew something happened.
I looked at them and tried to catch my breath because I honestly don't do well with running but yet I manage to do it every day when something happens or when I'm late to an occasion.
"He's definitely into you Kara, you can see it on his face and in his body language."
Isabella told me as she smiled at me supportively, I looked at her with an unsure look because Ashton did give a lot mixed signals but maybe that just how he was, maybe he was an actual confused person that didn't know how to stay in one lane.
Kiana looked at me and wiggled her eyebrows before continuing her chemistry homework that she forgot to do last night, I rolled my eyes playfully before smiling at her.
Sometimes people flirt unknowingly, but I like to think that I have a chance.
I say in awe as Dana looked at me and made a gagging noise, I slap her arm and laugh at her childish behavior before the bell rings and Kiana stands up.
We say goodbye to one another and I grab Kiana's hand so that she can ask me any type of question she wanted.
Maybe I have a chance but maybe I don't, boys are way too confusing for me.

Note for new readers: This novel is a work of fantasy that includes magic elements, thus— I strive to implement the reality of a world where humanoids hold supernatural powers and construct hierarchies based on their power levels. Inevitably, such a novel includes many negative elements which may traumatize some readers, such as and not limited to: rape, profanity, detailed violence, and sexual acts. The Main Character is a former assassin and thus more of a villain than an anti-hero, she shall value only what grants her maximum benefits, even over the lives of others. She is antisocial and prefers to work alone, she doesn't consider others as comrades, only as means to an end, and will have zero problems discarding them herself. Schedule: two to three chapters per week.

Parallels
Parallels are a constant in life. Our friends' lives often run parallel to ours; we share similar experiences or tastes- perhaps even both. Sometimes, however, opposites attract- and our lives run perpendicular. In that case, we are not attracted by similarities; rather, we are attracted to the differences in others. So, what happens when two parallels are broken apart? What might happen to them? Are they forever doomed to run alongside each other, never seeing one another, never meeting? Or, perhaps, might they be spun about? Could these lines that formerly ran alongside one another meet? Could they possibly be set perpendicular? Any feedback is welcome, so long as it is constructive. Also, you may not use any characters, ideas, places, or what have you that I present here without my explicit permission. A note: This is a story which I began over a year ago, but never got around to finishing- it feels about time to really get it going. Now, there are a couple of things about the story, and myself, that need to be said. First and foremost, there's a slow start, but by the third-fourth chapter things should be speeding up a bit. Secondly, in regards to release speed and/or word count per chapter, I make no promises- my schedule is fairly random, and in regards to word count, I will cut off any chapter at any point that feels appropriate to me- that may include cliffhangers, if necessary. I'm not trying to reach a specific word count, I am trying to create a cohesive story, with pseudo-appropriate chapter breaks. This means I will also not rush a half-baked release for the sake of getting a release out. Thirdly, I will make any edits, anywhere in the story and at any time, that strike me as necessary- typically being wording and/or formatting changes, but I may also decide to change major plot points- in that case I would put a notification in the next chapter released. Finally, and most importantly, I am a Christian; this story is intended to at least moderately reflect those values. So, if you particularly dislike any of these things, feel free to look elsewhere, and don't let the door hit you on the way out. God bless, friends.
