《Hearts gone cold》Headless and Proud

There stood three hundred and here they bled

Each man holding until they reached their end

A statue erected of a warrior in armor clad

A shield, a proud crest and a spear over hand

This sentry stands saying little as is Laconic

Nearby sits a scene I find just as iconic

For more than three hundred stood in the pass that day

As some seven hundred Thespians with their lives did pay

Clad in black, seven hundred the bulk of their host

Hundreds against thousands they locked shields and remained at their post

Fighting in phalanx these Hellenic brothers unite

There was no question that this rear guard could not survive the night

Even as brave Leonidas lay bleeding into the ground

Demophilus of Thesipae rallied his spears doing his best to make Eros proud

Like a jagged coast battling the oceans mightiest waves

Both Hellenes and the men from the east were nothing if not brave

We cannot walk the streets of Thespiae to this day

As for their heroic sacrifice their entire land was made to pay

So as we look upon that headless idol, with one wing, chest puffed with pride

Remember that here in antiquity these seven hundred for the sake of all others willingly died
