《Silence ✓》Chapter 2

I could hear the natural chirping of birds as sunlight streamed in through the trees. The sky seemed clear and was a crystal blue colour. I looked up and whirled round in circles as a gentle gust of wind, kissed my cheeks. I loved the scenery that was before me. The streams of water flowing could be heard in the distance and I noted something in mute. There was no other noise. Everywhere was absolutely quiet; that is, apart from nature taking control.

I made a mental note of this and began walking forward, my feet crunched the pale fallen leaves. I tried not to make a sound and it was because I didn't want to disturb the cycle of nature. As I made my way to the stream, leaves continued to fall.

When I got there, I sucked up the beauty as I took it all in. Water gushed out from an opening in the huge crevice rock and despite the noise it made, I could still feel that sense of quiet. That stillness and calm. I breathed in the fresh air and sighed. It was all so peaceful and refreshing. This place was where utter silence existed, where only nature was allowed to take control, where humans avoided, and where creatures ate those who disturbed it.

I looked at my shoulder where a leaf had fallen. I held the gold coloured, veiny leaf, in my hand. It looked so natural, just like the fallen spring.

In the distance, I could hear a machine sound aloud. What? Who the hell has come to disturb this peace? I thought. I could hear a child screaming in the distance and calling for help.

This was what the creatures did to you if you disturbed the silence. I stared at the sky with the leaf in my hand and saw flocks of bat-like creatures heading to where I could hear the scream. It all seemed so surreal. This wasn't right; I didn't want someone to die because, they didn't know how to keep the silence. They were likely travellers and had stopped by the way to get something to eat.

I flung the single leaf I had been holding and hurried with light footsteps across the thick forest. I didn't want to make any noise so the creatures would not come for me. As I approached where I could hear the continuous screaming, I decided that the only way I could help was to shout and take cover so their attention would be all on me. At least the human that was out there would be safe for the meantime.

I gave a loud scream and all at once, the creatures headed in my direction. That I noticed by the cacophony of sounds of the bat's wings, through the trees. I ran, immediately taking cover in the nearby bush; not waiting till they got to me. And as I crouched behind the thick bush I could feel the bat-like creature's breath so close to me. I stilled, too afraid to move, and I spotted another of the same creature through an open clearing in the leaves. Its ears were wide open, waiting to hear any sound.

I knew there were more out there. I could feel them.

After a while of waiting, I saw the creature fly high in the sky. It's wings sprouting from it's contorted body. I released the breath I didn't know I had been holding and waited for when I would make my next move.

My alarm that was by the bedside table gave a shrill cry, and I groaned aloud. I knew this nightmare would leave me disgruntled and make my day one heck of a mess.
