《THOSE SUMMER NIGHTS》[12]

know why I felt so comfortable, but as soon as I opened my eyes, I realized why.

My pillow was thrown across the room and my bare leg was slung over Atlas's. To make matters worse, my arms were loosely wrapped around his arm, using it as a makeshift pillow. His hand was basically resting on my thigh.

With a gasp, I pushed myself away from him. Miscalculating the size of the bed, I went toppling over the side and landed on the floor.

"Ow," I winced, sitting up slightly and trying my hardest not to look at Atlas. My cheeks burned as I rose to my full height.

With difficulty, I brushed my tangled hair off of my face and stopped. Atlas was staring at me, the same book from the airplane in his hands. It was almost done.

"Stop looking at me," I grumbled under my breath. He frowned a little and said nothing, turning his head back to his book. I rolled my eyes and turned to grab my phone. I hated how he was so confident and quiet. It pissed me off.

I noticed that there was a text from Leah and swiped it open.

Get ready and come to our room.

As I finished typing in my response and shutting off my phone, I watched Atlas walk into the bathroom. I frowned. I was hoping that I'd be able to use it first. I shook myself from my thoughts and grabbed some clothes from my bag. I decided to stick with a short-sleeved blue shirt and a pair of blue jeans.

I waited for a long while to hear the shower start but heard nothing. With a huff, I laid my clothes down on the bed and walked over to the bathroom. I knocked on the door but heard no response.

I let out a soft groan and knocked again, "Atlas?"

Again, no answer.

With an inaudible huff, I walked away and slipped my shoes on. As I ran my hand through my hair, I faltered, glancing at the bathroom. What was he doing?

Biting my lip softly, I walked back over to the bathroom. I softly knocked on the door, "Atlas?"

In response, a small hum came from him. I frowned, "A-Are you okay?"

He coughed lightly, his voice hard and tense, "I'll be out in a little."

I nodded and grabbed my phone, clothes, and toiletries. I'd give him some space and instead, change in Leah and Julia's room. I walked out the door, frowning to myself in thought.

Maybe he was just getting dressed or something even though I didn't see him walk in with anything in his hands.

He wasn't showering because I didn't hear the water start. I don't know why it was freaking me out so much, but it did. Maybe he just wanted some privacy and that was hard since we shared a room. I nodded to myself. Yes, that was most likely it.

I arrived at the girl's room and knocked on the door. When nobody answered in the first three seconds, I frowned. I was not going to get locked out again. I smiled in relief when Leah opened the door.

She frowned at me. "Why aren't you dressed?"

I shrugged, coming up with an excuse, "I- Um... Atlas was taking forever in the bathroom."

She smiled, "Well, you're in luck. I just finished with my shower and Julia hasn't woken up yet."

I smiled, "Thank God."

She opened the door for me and pointed to the bathroom. I quickly walked in and shut the door, making sure to lock it this time. I placed my fresh clothes on the side and slipped out of my pajamas. I frowned as I heard a ding come from my phone. I let out a sigh of relief when I found it under my pile of clothes but frowned when I saw the name.

The same god-forsaken I've been trying to erase from my mind. The same name that still made my skin crawl and my eyes tear. The same name that'll never let me live my life without reliving the same night over and over again.

I willed the tears ready to slip down my cheeks to stop. I decided to ignore the text, putting my phone on silent. I shook myself from my thoughts and slipped into the shower. I let out a sigh of relief when the warm water started to fall down my head and to the rest of my body. I felt all my worries wash away and down the drain.

When I finished my shower and dried myself off, I slipped my clothes on and brushed my teeth. After I had rinsed my mouth, I ran a brush through my damp hair and smiled at myself in the mirror. I looked good.

I gathered my things from the bathroom and walked out. I giggled when I noticed that Leah was sitting on top of Julia, trying to wake her up. I noticed that Jude was sitting on the couch in the corner of the room.

"Morning," He smiled when he saw me walk out of the bathroom.

I smiled back, "Good morning."

"Get up!" Leah whined, bouncing up and down on Julia's back. I let out a small laugh.

"You're going to break her back." I laughed, as I folded my clothes and laid my things neatly to the side.

"Mm-mm!" Julia groaned in agreement from under her covers. Leah smirked and got up, whipping her covers off. Julia didn't get up, but folded in on herself to keep warm. Leah groaned.

Jude laughed, "I didn't take her for a heavy sleeper."

Julia picked her head up and with her eyes closed, glared in Jude's direction, "I'm not. I just didn't get enough sleep last night."

Leah rolled her eyes, "Will you get up if I buy you some ice cream?"

Julia glared at Leah, "Ice cream in the morning? What are we? Animals?"

I laughed and Jude joined me. Leah frowned, "Fine! How about I buy you breakfast?"

Julia shook her head in thought, "Uh, I guess."

Leah clapped her hands excitedly, "Thank fuck!"

Julia got up and pointed a finger at her, "Don't say that. It doesn't even make any sense."

Leah rolled her eyes, a relieved smile on her lips, "Yeah, yeah."

I took that as a chance for me to walk back to my room. "I'll see you guys downstairs in say..."

"An hour," Julia groaned.

"Half an hour," Leah corrected and I smiled, making my way out of the room with my things in hand. I just hoped Atlas was out of the bathroom by now.

When I returned, I noticed that the shower was on and I smiled. Thank God, I swiped a key before I left, or else there would've been a repeat of last night.

But was that really a bad thing...

I shook myself from my thoughts, trying to calm down the redness in my cheeks. I took in a breath and put my things away. With nothing to do, I took a seat on the bed and glanced at Atlas's side. I noticed his book sitting on the nightstand and picked it up. I flipped to the cover and frowned at the title.

1984.

I remember reading that book for English class. It kinda freaked me out. I wondered why he was reading it during summer break... while we were on vacation.

I shrugged and opened it to the page he was on, but stopped when I heard the bathroom door slide open. I looked at Atlas who was fully dressed in a pair of black jeans and a white pullover with some print on the front.

His hard eyes fixed on me and I froze.

"What are you doing?" He spoke, his voice low and tense.

"I- Uh..." I started, but he didn't let me finish.

"Leave my stuff alone," He breathed, "Please."

With my hands shaking slightly, I placed his book down and got up off the bed. I straightened my shirt and looked up to see him staring at me. I glared at him.

"Fucking rude," I grumbled under my breath. I quickly grabbed my stuff and walked towards the door, ready to storm out.

"Eden..." He started but trailed off when I whipped my head and glared at him. He frowned, his eyebrows scrunching in anger and confusion.

"Go ahead. Say it. Tell me that I'm nosy and rude, but I swear to God if you're going to be a prick about everything..."

I took in a deep breath to control my temper, "Well, two can play at that game."

And with that, I walked out of the room and stomped my way to the elevator. I needed to cool off before I exploded on everyone and ruined the trip. I winced when I looked down at my palms and noticed crescent-shaped imprints from my nails.

I flexed my hands and walked into the elevator. I crossed my arms, a pout on my lips as the elevator took me downstairs.

What the hell was his issue? He got to stay in the bathroom for God knows how long and then come out all pissed off because I touched his book. It was just a book, dammit.

My face turned twisted in anger when I saw the same annoying lady from last night in the lobby. She had the same huge fake smile on her face and the same ugly pencil skirt and blouse just this time it was a blinding red. I decided to ignore her and grovel somewhere else.

I looked around the beautiful lobby and decided to take a seat by the sitting area. I was too angry to notice all the beautiful decor and paintings around me, but I did notice one thing. There was a beautiful vase of Chrysanthemums by the chairs. I lightly touched the petals and smiled softly.

I loved Chrysanthemums with my whole heart. They were so beautiful and held such purity and sadness on each of their petals.

I was shaken out of my thoughts by a call. I looked down and smiled softly.

"Hello?" I asked into the phone.

"You were supposed to call me," Hamza spoke from the other side of the phone. I laughed softly.

"Well you see, I did think to call you, but if I did I probably would have woken you up." I sat back in my seat, staring at the flowers as I listened to Hamza speak.

"You could've called anyways. I don't mind."

I smiled softly, ignoring the small blush fighting its way to my cheeks. "Yeah," I whispered.

"So, what'd you guys do so far?" He asked.

I shrugged, "We got to the hotel a little late so we kinda just crashed, and now we're on our way out for breakfast."

He laughed softly and I frowned, "Why are you laughing?"

"Let me guess. You're either going to have some Porridge or better yet some crumpets."

I rolled my eyes, "Ha-ha. Very funny."

"It was, wasn't it?" He boasted.

I rolled my eyes, "I finally decided what gift I'm going to get you,"

"What is it?" He asked.

"Jam," I giggled.

He let out a mocking laugh, "I don't care what you bring me, E."

"Mhm," I rolled my eyes, "Sure."

He laughed, "No, I'm serious."

I quoted down when I noticed that he, in fact, was actually being serious.

"Just promise me you'll come back to me." He said.

As the words left his lips, I saw the elevator door open and Julia, Leah, and Jude walked out. I tried to get rid of the blush making its way to my cheeks.

"What? You think I'm going to run away to Scotland and never come back?" I laughed, but he cut me off.

"Promise me, Eden." He laughed.

I smiled, "Sure, Hamza. I promise I'll come back."

"Good," He smiled through the phone, "And promise to behave, okay?"

I rolled my eyes, "You can stop treating me like a baby now."

He laughed, "Fine, fine. Bye and send pictures, beautiful."

I rolled my eyes, "Okay, bye."

And with that, he hung up and I tried to ignore the way my heart was beating. I took in a deep breath and smiled as my friends walked over to me.

Then I felt my heartbeat even faster than before as I saw Atlas walk out of the elevator with Dawson, a wide smile on his face.

He looked so much better when he smiled like that, I found myself thinking.
