《Take Me Down》21

The castle was bigger on the inside than it appeared on the outside. There were wooden carvings along the wall that must have told stories from past elders lives. They were very well formed and so intricate with detail that you could almost see their soul in their eyes.

"Cornelius?" An elderly lady said, coming down the stairs in the main entryway. She wore a dark blue gown, her grey hair long and straight. Less than half of her hair was braided back near the top of her head and the rest hung loosely on her small form.

I let everyone off my back as well as Cornelius. I shifted back, but Cornelius remained in his true form.

"Saphire, it has been a while." He said and walked over to her in his dragon form. She touched his side and smiled, speaking in another language I have never heard. It sounded beautiful in my ears, and I shifted my eardrum as much as I could to try and tune in but couldn't find the right pitch.

"Dragon tongue," Aaron said quietly and I nodded, assuming it was something like that.

Saphire stopped talking to Cornelius and paused, looking at Avery and Cassie.

"Singular elementals I presume," She said, smiling. They looked at each other and nodded to Saphire. She nodded at Claudius.

"Vampire," She nodded and he bowed his head for her. She stopped in front of Aaron but stared at Ethan.

"Wolf." She said, pointing at him. He nodded his head to her and lowered his eyes, the wolf way of showing respect.

She finally turned her head and looked Aaron over. She squinted for a few seconds then smiled.

"Ahhhhh. A full elemental. I remember meeting your father many years ago, Aaron." She said and Aaron's eyes widened.

"You know of my father?" He questioned and nodded, looking at the wall past him.

"Of course. All the full elementals have been here sometime in the past." She spoke out, then nudged him aside, coming to me.

"Amanda. Nice to finally meet you. I've heard just about everything about your life thanks to Hermia. All she does is talk about you. And her." Saphire said, pointing at Avery. Avery blinked a few times and turned to look at me, and I tilted my head to the side, slightly confused.

"Why would she talk about me so much? And what would she want with Avery?" I questioned and she laughed.

"She has been predicting your future for a very, very long time. Even before you two were born, she knew who you two were." She said and I nodded, not truly understanding why.

"Aren't you Samantha Benever's grandmother?" I questioned and she shrugged, turning around. She went over to Andrea. She didn't speak right away, maybe not wanting to talk about her grand-daughter. I assumed it was a popular topic these days for her.

"Now you. You have a weird aura." She said, almost completely ignoring my question.

"And of course, Amanda." She said, and I shut my mouth as I was about to say something else.

"Where is Hermia?" I questioned and she pointed to a corner. I left the group, going up the stairs and heading to a rounded wooden door. I went to knock and the door swung open, an elderly lady standing there with a large smile plastered on her wrinkly face. I lowered my hand, shocked.

"Amanda!" She exclaimed, wrapping her arms around my waist. I looked down at the little old lady, taking in her innocent features. Her eyes were just like my natural ones, and she looked very familiar. It was almost as if I already knew her somehow.

"Do I know you?" I questioned and she shook her head.

"Oh, you wouldn't remember me. Your parents made sure of that." She said and I was taken aback. My hands clenched, not having heard about my parents in a while.

"You knew my parents?" I questioned and she nodded, motioning for me to enter the room.

"You should come too, Avery." The elderly lady yelled and Avery came up the stairs swiftly, entering the room with me.

She shut the door and it was pitch black. I couldn't see a thing so I shifted my eyes to those of an owl's.

"Unshift your eyes, Amanda." She said and I held a confused look, changing my eyes back to normal. I stared at the pitch black for a few seconds confused.

Hermia moved around the room swiftly, lighting small candles in glass containers with an eerie blue fire. She moved her arms in a circle slowly, controlling the fire in a ball of blue. She shifted her feet to the sides and shot her arms up, the blue spreading around the room swiftly, filling the rest of the candles.

Now that I could see everything, the room had carvings in the wall, including figures that looked exactly like Avery and I behind the desk in front of us. It was a carving of us as children under the big oak tree, fast asleep.

"Wow," Avery said, completely shocked along with myself. Looking around the rest of the room, there were carvings of us in different situations, all things I could remember clearly. It was as if our entire lives had been documented on these walls.

"Did you make these carvings?" I questioned and she nodded.

"Of course." She said, sitting down on a small stool. She was wearing a deep green tunic type dress and flat slippers.

"Why?" Avery and I both questioned at the same time. We looked at each other, a bit shook.

"You guys are very important to me." She said, smiling at the both of us. Avery and I exchanged another glance, then we both crossed our arms.

"That doesn't explain anything," I said and she shrugged.

"You two are my grandchildren." She said plainly and my mouth dropped.

"What?" I questioned, then looked at Avery.

"Wait, that means we are related," Avery said, pointing at me. I looked at her from a whole different point.

"You're sisters." She said, as though we had known that information. My eyes practically bugged out of my head.

"No way," I said in complete disbelief, and Avery shook her head.

"It's not true. I have different parents." She said and Hermia shook her head.

"No, those two were your aunt and uncle. Your parents thought it would be best if both of you were raised in separate households." Hermia continued, and I shook my head, not believing anything.

"This is crazy. They would never separate us. Why would they ever separate us?" Avery said, and I continued to stare at Hermia in utter disbelief. I folded my hands, cracking them.

"They were only trying to change the future. But look where that got them. By trying to interfere with fate, they all died. Don't interfere with your fate girls." Hermia said, sighing sadly.

"What are you talking about? What fate?" I questioned and she looked down at her hands.

"By talking about it, you will try to change it and get more people killed," Hermia said and I shook my head.

"Fine, don't tell us," I said, looking around at the wall. In the corner, there was a carving that was charred black. I walked over to it and ran my fingers along the details, feeling the outlines. I closed my eyes, trying to form the picture in my mind of what had once been here.

I felt a body, which I couldn't tell whose it was. A knife was stuck in their side, and someone was standing over them.

"This, is this us?" I questioned, opening my eyes and looking to Hermia. She nodded.

"Who is who?" I questioned and she shook her head.

I looked at Avery concerned.

"What is it?" She questioned and I looked at her expression change as I spoke the next few words.

"One of us kills the other," I said and her eyes widened in shock.
