Wide, E/C orbs frantically dart around a bedroom with pale blue walls and a large, white rug that sits upon dark, wooden floors in search of anything that might possibly pop out and scare the little girl, who sits curled up on the bed decorated in a blue and white striped blanket, royal blue sheets, and white and blue pillows. Her back is firmly pressed up against the dark, wooden headboard as thunder roars and lighting clashes right outside her window that's positioned slightly above the right side of the child's twin-sized bed. Rain pounds heavily at the glass, only scaring the small female even more than before. Every loud sound causes the girl to flinch, for they were always sudden and unexpected. The child sits with her knees hugged tightly to her chest with her face buried in her arms. Her little form trembles as she sobs, for she couldn't stand storms like these. She's dreadfully scared.
Scared of the dark.
Scared of the storm,
Of the sounds,
Of her closet,
Of whatever might lie beneath her bed.
Thankfully, a nightlight, that's plugged into the wall near young Y/N's nightstand, illuminates the room with a soft, yellow glow. She had chosen to sit on the far side of the bed to be away from the windows, which are covered in thin, blue curtains. As for anything that might be hiding in the dark corners of her room, there was not much else the child could do, but keep herself away from them. Y/N doesn't like how every now and then the house would release loud, eerie creaks whenever the strong wind outside pushes against the structure. It makes her feel like the home will blow away with her inside it.
What is the poor thing to do when she's so helpless against these fears? As much as she would like to jump off the bed and run to her parents' room, Y/N would receive no such comfort from them, since they aren't currently in the house. After having put the girl to bed and when they were sure she had fallen asleep, they had snuck out for a late night date to the movie theater to watch a new action film that came out. Sadly, the girl had awoken after hearing a loud rumble of thunder that seemingly vibrated the house. Even if they were home, she couldn't bring herself to run to her mother and father.

What if a monster is hiding under her bed and decides to grab her ankles and drag her under? What if that monster wants to eat her? It's thoughts like these that keep her put. Y/N had tried calling out to them from her room, but after hearing no response after ten whole minutes, she gave up on it. The girl sniffles and whimpers when lightning flashes, sending beams of light through the openings of her curtains.
Nearly, the little girl screams when the light of her nightlight flickers before shutting off completely. Tears fill her E/C orbs as she throws the covers over her head and closes her eyes. The scent of her fear is growing stronger by the minute. Such a smell can be sniffed out by an unholy creature of the night. The delicious scent of a human's fear, no, a child's fear, directs the monster towards a little house in a seemingly nice neighborhood.
Water droplets splash onto the beast's form as its long, skinny legs take it towards the white, front door. They grin upon spotting a letter slot while using one of its claws to push it open. What appears to be a tight squeeze is actually nothing for this creature. In fluid movements, their mostly liquid body shifts to fit through the small opening before changing back to its original form. White eyes take a glance around the cozy home as black droplets drip onto the hardwood floor.
The white walls of the entryway are decorated in family pictures and at the creature's bare feet is a scratchy, brown, welcome mat. To their left is a closet that they imagine is filled with coats and shoes, but that was only a minor detail. The beast takes a quick glance at a family photo with a mother, a father, and a little girl in it. A smirk falls on the monster's lips upon seeing the child before they look away from the picture. That scent of fear once again fills the creature's nostrils, causing a grin to curl into place on their dripping face.
Deciding to have a look at the house later, the beast climbs the wooden steps with one hand on the railing, leaving a tar-like substance behind. Small creaks emanate from its steps as they approach the door that holds the scent of its latest victim. Slowly, the intruder twists the knob of the white door and pushes it open bit by bit. This room would be its new hideaway and home for however long they might need. A grin full of thin, sharp teeth makes its way to the being's face as its hands and feet stick to the wall, allowing it to climb all the way up to the the ceiling.

When it's positioned directly above the child's body, bits of the black tar drips onto her blanket in heavy drops. This alerts Y/N, leading her to throw the blanket off her form immediately before frantically looking around her room to pinpoint what had fallen on her. When another droplet falls onto the top of her head, Y/N tenses. She brings a hand to the wet spot and pulls away after touching the thick, gooey substance to look at it. Slowly, she looks above to her ceiling and is met with two, bright white eyes. A flash of lighting illuminates the room through the curtains and reveals the rest of the creature's skeletal form and large, curly horns. Their long, thin claws tap at the ceiling in anticipation as it grins widely, showing its thin, pointy teeth.
Before the girl could even scream, her E/C eyes roll to the back of her head, and she faints. A deep chuckle erupts from the being's chest when her back hits the mattress before it crawls down the wall and hovers above her unconscious form.
'Oh, this will certainly be fun.' Gently, their fingers move aside the soft, H/C strands, their nails lightly skimming over the flesh of her forehead, to view the child's precious features. The creature closes its eyes before resting its forehead against hers to enter her head. Once inside, they're given glimpses of every little fear she has tucked away inside her mind. It makes them grin wider, for its new playground holds lots of fun and exciting opportunities.
The monster pulls away and traces Y/N's bottom lip, sending her an image of millions of tiny spiders crawling into her mouth, nose, and ears. The girl begins choking in both her dream and in real life. Though, the sensation of the crawling arachnids were fake, it felt real enough to convince her of that. Luckily, she was so scared that she woke up before any real harm could come to her body. She shoots up from the mattress while taking in a deep gasp of air before lurching forward and coughing violently.
Once she calms, her head turns in the direction of the window, which shows light seeping through the curtains. It's morning now, and the monster had seemingly disappeared. Too terrified to jump off her bed and run to her parents, Y/N breaks down crying and waits for them to come to her room on their own. Eventually, they do become curious when their daughter doesn't make an appearance for breakfast, so M/N decides to go upstairs to get her. The moment Y/N's mother shows her face in the doorway, the little girl leaps off the bed and hugs her mother tightly.
Concern fills the older woman upon seeing her child so distressed. When Y/N tries to tell her of last night's events, all that comes out are inaudible rambles and sobs. M/N takes the girl downstairs and attempts to calm her along the way to the dining room,
completely oblivious of the grinning monster inside Y/N's closet.
I'd like you all to keep in mind that he's going to be my version of the Boogeyman, so yeah, he's gonna look a little terrifying. Don't worry, though. Like in all my other stories, things will get...

The past get's forgotten. Or so they say. Maybe they're right. Even the gods forgot the beginning, the reason it all started. But I refuse to forget, even if I'm driven mad by the memory. Salvation?
