《Welcome to the Pack (Wolf oneshot book)》Loner!Wolf x Dog!Reader

You were born into a family of Border Collies, your mom being the one to mostly take care of you and your siblings. Your father was the one who helped the farmers as their herding dog. Life consisted of playing with your siblings throughout the spacious farm, mostly by the forest nearby.
As you got older, your father taught you all the different basics to being a herder like him. Though, besides you, your other siblings did other rules assigned by the farmers. And with your father getting older nowadays, it was hard for him to do his job, despite how stubborn he could be; you always told yourself and others you'd be the one to take over for him.
You ran throughout the field, circling around any stray sheep and leading them toward the fence line. "Come on, guys! Work with me here!" You barked, making some of them flinch. Despite dogs and sheep not being able to understand each other, it didn't matter; they could tell you were frustrated. "Let's get back to the herd." You walked forward, looking back to see them following behind you. Surprisingly, they were very obedient.
You led them to the fence, where the farmer was waiting next to the gate. You barked, and they instantly went inside the fenced-in field. "Good job, (Y/N). Here." The human scratched behind your ear, causing your hind leg to go wild. He reached into his pocket, holding out a ham bone in his gloved hand. You snatched it out of his hand, taking it with you as you walked off.
You walked towards the field near the forest, where your siblings and you always spent time together. There was one of your brothers sitting there, chewing on a squeaky toy. "Hey, (B/N)! Guess what I got?" You sat across from him, showing the ham bone. "Oooh! You got lucky!!" He whimpered, a small smile appearing. Nodding, you went to lay across the hay scattered around, except for the weird smell that you started to notice.

Looking over, you both noticed a lump under the hay not too far away. "What the-?" Your brother asked, tilting his head. You got up, the bone being left where you just are as you trotted over to it. It almost had the scent of meat and... wolves? Nosing aside some strands of the hay pile, it revealed a dead sheep corpse, some chunks torn off. 'What in hell is this?! Who would do such a thing?' Your thoughts were interrupted as your brother joined you.
"W-What the..? Who could've done this?" He repeated your thoughts, sniffing at the body. "Hey! What is going on over there?!" You both flinched at the voice of the farmer, his tone full of confusion and worry. You both stepped back, revealing the sheep. He came to a stop before it. "Oh... oh my. This hasn't happened in a long time... must have been the damn wolves again." He picked up the corpse, hoisting it up and trying to carry it. "Looks like I'll have to just throw it out into the forest, then. Nothing much we can do."
It was nightfall. Despite the darkness making it hard to see anywhere, you still stood in front of the fence, the part closest to the forest. You watched with narrowed eyes, hearing the occasional wolf or coyote from afar. 'They won't hurt any more of the livestock; I'll make sure of it.' You had told yourself that when you snuck out of the barn, careful not to wake you family or the horses so they wouldn't panic.
You pricked your floppy ears at a howl that was close by this time, almost close to the field. 'I'll stop them, whoever they are. Can't have them thinking they can just come here and do whatever they want.' You noticed a figure suddenly creep into the clearing, their thick white fur illuminated by the moonlight. You instantly crouched and crawled under the fence; your plan was to hide and take him off guard.

Rushing over to a part of the field where it sloped down slightly, you went into the barn, squeezing through the door that was slid open only slightly. As you watched closely, you saw the figure crawl under the fence like you had. They stalked throughout the field, where the sheep slept soundly. They walked up to a particular one, staring at it.
They perked their head up at hearing the sound of barking, and you suddenly came from nowhere and pinned them down. "Ow! What the hell?!" He demanded, squirming under your grip. The sheep all awoke, letting out cries of terror as they scurried away to the barn for safety. "Look what you did! You... you, um..." He stopped mid-sentence, seeing your distinct looks and dog-like qualities. "Oh, I get it now. You work for those humans, huh?"
His tone was cocky and sarcastic, and that caused your muzzle to curl up in annoyance as you let out a throaty growl. "Yes, I work for the humans. Now may I ask why you're trying to kill off my Master's livestock?" You questioned, your claws digging into his side. He barked his fangs, revealing sharp canines that could tear out a dog's throat. "You should know, of any animal; meat is what wolves and dogs eat. I'm trying to get prey for my Pack."
"Well, go somewhere else! You have no right to come here and steal our sheep, mangy mutt!" Your growl was still low, not stepping down as you got up and allowed him to stand. His expression was hard to read; was he upset that you had stopped him? Confused that you did that? In thought? "Well, that's the problem... our rival Pack had taken over our hunting grounds. This was out last resort."
Your ears pricked up, your expression softening just a bit. Sure, you felt bad for all of them; especially for those poor pups and their mothers. But, it still didn't give him the right to come steal your livestock. The tension seemed to dim a bit, considering you had calmed down more and you stopped glaring. He seemed calm now as well, his expression softening as well.
"Well, what if I was to help you find food? I know another farm with some sheep and goats. My Master and that farmer have been at each other's throats since before I was born." He tilted his head, a tad bit confused. You walked past him, hearing him following you as you crawled back under the fence. You looked to the left, the trees covering your view. "Out that way is the farm. Just take from him. But be careful; he has a shotgun."
The wolf nodded, staring into the night sky towards that way for a few moments. "Um... thank you, uh..." You looked at him, a doggy smile across your face. "The name's (Y/N)! And you?" He flattened his ears, a nervous wolf smile on his face as well. "My name's Torak. Thank you, (Y/N). Um... I was wondering if you wanted to... hang out sometime? I know we just met, but... you just helped me solve a big problem."
You didn't know what to answer; you could say yes and do just that with him, or you could say no and just go back to protecting the sheep. Though, you did feel bad for him, considering he had no option but to resort to stealing for humans. "Alright, then. I guess. Except, it can only be at night; I have a job to do during the day."
"Fine, then! That sounds okay! See you tomorrow night, (N/N)!" With that, he trekked off into the forest again, leaving you there. You could only watch as he left you there, eventually heading back off into the barn next to your family and falling asleep again. You only hoped they wouldn't get suspicious of you.

Dragon: Birth of an Ancient
Deep in a secluded forest, within the depths of a long forgotten cave, an unnatural silence that has reigned for little over a million years is shattered as a hatchling takes its first breath. To the various species that called this world, one of seven, home, the matter seemed beyond insignificant. The hatchling, like all monsters, had no divine backing and with its age, could only be considered a lesser existence. A being to be used by the Chosen and noble monster bloodlines in their never-ending pursuit of power, fame and immortality. However, how could any of the short-lived races, Chosen and Monster alike, know that the tiny, weak, lizard-like creature was much more than it seemed. That it was an entity only spoken of in myth and legend. From a species that their ancestors, with the backing of the Gods, paid a huge price to remove. A heretical existence that threatened the fragile peace that had descended upon their world. A Dragon. ==== ** Cover done by the amazing Felix!*** I am writing this story for a friend who is currently in hospital and in a very precarious situation. He gave me the plot/ concept and, after my own health issues, I wanted to try and brighten his day and provide a distraction from the monotony of their hospital stay. I am posting it on RRL mainly in case anyone else can find enjoyment from the story and to show the readers of my other stories that I am not permanently MIA (and will 100% return to those stories in the future).
