Long chapter

Izuku and the many other children on this tiny island grew up listening to that story, the story of how the demigod Katuski stole the heart of Tefiti. Though many were too scared to listen, Izuku on the other hand, couldn't get enough of the story, his favorite part being "One day, the heart will be found by someone who will journey beyond the reef, find Katsuki, deliver him across the great ocean to restore Te fiti heart and save us all."

This is just one of the few things that made Izuku different from the rest of the children. He had a strong sense of adventure and his eyes were always turned to the sea, which worried his mother, Chiefess Inko.

One day young Izuku was wandering along the shoreline, staring off at the horizon in wonder. As the waves wash over his small feet, he gasped in surprise when a beautiful shell washed up suddenly. Just as he was about to grab the shell, he noticed a lone baby turtle trapped under some roots as large birds fly overhead. Izuku quickly turned away from the pretty shell and helped the baby turtle to the ocean.

Izuku smiled as the turtle swam when suddenly the ocean moved unnaturally as it moved back. A section of the ocean pulled back, revealing the shell he had been looking at earlier. As the waters parted and revealed a path a trail of shells on the squishy sand. Izuku slowly and nervesly made his way down the path, not really caring to pick up the shells. Yet in the end, he could not help but awe at the beauty under the ocean surface. The water rose above him, and he stared up at it. The water covered his hair, flowing it so it curled up and mess with his hair. Izuku gigged when from the corner of his eyes, he saw a lovely jewel float towards him.

But before he could reach it a panicked and worried voice of his mother shocked him. The ocean quickly and safely floated Izuku back to shore and returned to its normal state. Inko relieved and terrified, forbid Izuku to sneak off to the ocean as he did. Even if this saddened him, he agreed and promised not to sneak off to the beach alone.

"I know, I know, but you don't go out there. It's dangerous. Izuku, come on, let's go back to the village. You are the next great chief of our people, my little minnow," Inko said as she picked him up, nosing him.

But as Izuku looked back he noticed a figure faced down on the sand, he was certain they weren't there before. "Mom look!" Izuku shouted as he pointed to the unconscious figure.

"Oh my goodness!" Inko gasped as she ran over to the figure.

It was a young child around Izuku's age, with lovely H/c hair and smooth s/c skin. They were brought to the village and were given the name Y/n. Most didn't know what to make of Y/n, they had no recollection of who they were or their origin. No one from any other land not far away claimed to know them. Y/n was a mystery.

Now, most were kind enough and welcomed Y/n with open arms, though many of the elders were wary of them, thinking they were some kind of spirit. Yet most of the children saw nothing abnormal about them and were welcomed among them. Izuku was very fond of them in particular.

They were the only ones that shared the same level of interest in sailing the waters, much to Inko's chagrin. As Inko tried to show Izuku how he can find adventure and happiness on this island, but Izuku tends to run off and spend time with Y/n on the beach.

One day Inko and her father Torino, Izuku's grandfather was ready to present Izuku to the makaʻāinana, as Izuku puts the headdress on, the green fabric still wrapped around the pole, still unfinished. Inko pulls back a flap, revealing the whole village waiting for them to come walking down the aisle. As Izuku followed his mother and grandfather, he noticed Y/n dancing by herself by the beach.

Inko and Torino look down, noticing Izuku is gone. Izuku ran down to his best friend, the headdress gone. Y/n looked over, and moved over, allowing their friend to dance beside them.

Izuku ages, he's now a teenager around fourteen or fifteen. He's wearing pants with a red band around his waist and ankles, a red and green band on his upper forearm. Y/n's outfits are all made out of Tapa, Pandanus, leaves, feathers, and other natural resources found on Motunui. They wear a crop top made out of red Tapa with a layered style accessorized with seashells along the perimeter. They wear a red sash made from the same material that wraps around her skirt made out of shredded Pandanas and layered Tapa.

Y/n and Izuku walk down the beach until they reach some leaves.

Y/n pulls the leaves back, revealing a group of boats. Izuku's eyes light up and he walks towards them, but his grandfather steps in front of him, crossing his arms." Grandfather, I was only looking at the boats. I wasn't gonna get on them." Izuku says, unbelievably. Toshi glared at Y/n simply shrugged as she bowed her head and left.

Y/n sighed Izuku was taken away by Torino and Inko, and up towards the mountain. He leads Izuku up one of the farther mountains of the island, talking beside him. "I wanted to bring you here from the moment you opened your eyes."

They walk onto a place where a stack of stones sits, the older ones covered in moss and on the bottom. Izuku runs his hand over them.

"This is a sacred place. The place of chiefs. There will come a time when you will stand on this peak and place a stone on this mountain. Like I did. Like my mother did. And her father, and every chief there has ever been. And on that day, when you place your stone, you will raise this whole mountain higher.

"You are the future of our people, Deku. They are not out there." He points out to the ocean, Izuku staring out. His father had called him by the chief name he had chosen for himself a few years before. "They are right here. It's time to be who they need you to be." Toshi looks at him, and Izuku stares at the village, smiling.

"And you will need to find a chiefess to stand beside you," Inko added.

As Izuku took this information, Y/n flashed in his mind. The thought of marriage with Y/n made his face burn red, as his heart fluttered at the image.

Izuku and his moms are busy cutting and harvesting coconuts, villagers dancing, singing, and working around them.

Torino hands Izuku a couple of coconuts and tosses some, villagers catching them.

Izuku is dancing at night, dancing with a couple of other villagers, flowers adorning his arms and legs.

Izuku places the headdress on, the finished green fabric wrapped around his waist. The multicolored pattern makes it pop against his red and tan outfit.

Izuku takes his parent's hands and they walk down the aisle. He notices his friend dancing alone, but he holds himself proud, continuing on his way.

Ever since he started to take his duties seriously, Izuku found himself finding less and less time to hang out with Y/n. Yet he found pride in all the people he was able to help, from teaching a couple of village kids some dances, but one problem stood out from cococunts getting some sort of sickness, and the fish supply disappearing suddenly.

Yet when Izuku suggested that the people sail beyond the reef, it angered Torino. Y/n finds Izuku sitting on a bent palm tree, breaking sticks and chucking them in the sand.

"So what made the chief so anger?" Y/n asked.

"I didn't say 'go beyond the reef' because I want to be on the ocean."

"But you still do." Y/n placed a hand over Izuku's, who threw his last stick down, glaring out at the horizon. "He's hard on you because-"

"Because he doesn't get me."

"Because he was you. Drawn to the ocean. Down by the shore. He took a canoe, Izuku. He crossed the reef and found an unforgiving sea. Waves like mountains. His best friend begged to be on that boat. Your dad couldn't save him. He's hoping...he can save you," Y/n kissed Izuku's cheek, and got off the tree. Izuku's heart raced as he could still feel the warmth of their lips on his cheek.

"As amazing and grand the ocean may be, one must never underestimate it, or turn their back to it. Water is the giver of life, but is very capable of taking it too," Y/n warned. They turned and headed back to the village. Izuku kept sitting there, staring at his hands.

Izuku pulls on one of the ropes holding the sail. It falls, and the wind lash back is fierce enough that Izuku chucks forward.

He sits up, laughing. "I can do this. There's more fish beyond the reef." He stares out at the reef. "There's more beyond the reef." He gathers the rope in his hand and pulls, the canoe starting forward again.

After a bit, Izuku's canoe sails over the little waves representing the reef. "Not so bad." He chuckles as some waves hit the boat. Then everything went wrong, a giant wave crashed over his boat, knocking it over. Izuku was pushed under, and a couple of strong waves kept him down.

The moment he could, he tried swimming for the surface, but his foot had gotten stuck in some coral. He tried to break it free, but it was stuck fast. He reached a handout, grabbing for the nearest heavy thing. His hand clasped around a rock, which he used to break the coral. He swam up and started gasping for air.

Just as Izuku thought it was over, an unseen force pulled him free and to the surface. He gasped the air as he heard a voice call out to him, he turned to see Y/n on his canoe. Y/n held out their hand to him and quickly pulled them onto the boat, as the waters calmed. Y/n pulled Izuku into a hug as they both sighed in relief, as Izuku hugged close to Y/n's warmth.

"I'm sorry, I should have been more vigilant," Y/n mumbled to themselves. As Y/n maneuver the canoe, Izuku inspected his ankle, it was sore, but it would heal soon.

"Whatever just happened...blame it on the pig." Y/n joked as the wind caught the sail.

"Y/n... Thank you for coming to my rescue...Are you gonna tell my parents?" Izuku asked, waiting for the worst.

"Your secret is safe with me," Y/n smiled as they turned the canoe towards the shore.

"He was right. About going out there." Izuku turned and stared up at the mountain. "It's time I put my stone on the mountain."

There was a moment of silence before Y/n shrugged. "Okay. Well, head on back. Put that stone up there." Y/n said as they looked into the water, as Manta rays swam around the boat.

Izuku turned to face the fastly approaching shore but then turned back to his friend. "Why aren't you trying to talk me out of it?"

"You said that's what you wanted," Y/n said as they petted the rays in the water.

Izuku sighed sadly when Y/n's voice called his attention. " One day I will return to the sea, and become one again."

"Why are you acting weird?" Izuku asked

"I'm the village crazy person. It's my job." Y/n said simply, as the canoe pushed up on shore.

Izuku watched him before sighing. "If there's something you want to tell me, tell me."

"Is there something you want to hear?" Y/n teased with a smirk.

Izuku's little heart couldn't handle it, as his heart throbbed in his chest, as his cheeks turned a deep red.
