《The Love Abroad》Chapter 26

Flight 113 has landed.

Waiting by Gate 7 in Heathrow my heart starts pounding furiously. I can feel beads of sweat form just under my hairline and my palms getting clammy.

I see him expose himself, cameras go off like fireworks. He has an Avengers ball cap on and that over-worn but completely sexy leather jacket. In a few more hours, I'll be here again only to see my petite mother rush through the crowd.

My natural instinct is forcing me to smile. My face lighting up as he steps closer as our eyes meet from 20 feet apart and his face creases at the mouth and he winks.

It has been two weeks since we last spoke but before he heads to Russia for the premiere, he's coming home to see me. "Marie." he sighs as I fly into his arms. I wrap my arms around his neck as he kisses mine softly, the smell of his cologne penetrating my nostrils with the most glorious of scents.

It was a relief to see him and the fact I didn't have to cry wolf to get him here, made it even more special. "I'm so glad you're here, even if it is for a few days." I only kiss him on the cheek trying to shy away from being too aggressive since there are cameras all around us.

Tom holds my hand, leading me to the VIP club in the airport so we can wait for my mom's arrival. "You look stressed Marie. I wish I didn't have to leave you this long so I could help relieve the stress from the wedding." He scoots his chair closer to me, wrapping one arm around my shoulders before planting a kiss on my cheek.

"It's your job, Tom that comes first. I understand your obligations." I let out a sigh before fiddling around with my hands. Tom looks at me, an expression of disbelief shadowing his face. "YOU are my obligation. My job is simply just a job; you are my life, okay? You need to get that through your think skull.”

That sounds like something my mother would say. Ugh, Thomas!

"Yes sir, jeez. I'm just saying that I understand what your work entails and I'm perfectly capable with dealing with your constant absence when need be." I cross my arms, looking at the chrome clock hanging on the wall by the VIP bar. Tom just nods his head, avoiding an unnecessary argument.

I felt relieved that he now knows he doesn't need to baby me; I'm his fiancée, not his child. Three hours go by before we venture out into the busy terminal. My mom's flight just pulled up and people are slowly making their way out. Luckily Tom is 6'2", he can see over the sea of people.

"There she is!!" Tom points out, grabbing his bag and my hand as he maneuvers his body in and out of the passing bystanders. "Nina! Tom! My dears..." she gasps loudly as Tom picks her up in an embrace; nearly a foot separates their heights. Honestly, it's so adorable to see my mom take a liking to Tom and vice versa.

"Mami! Tan contenta de que estes aqui!!" I bend down to hug her 5'2" frame, her hair smelling of lavender. She kisses both my cheeks in traditional Spanish fashion. "Nina, you are glowing. Is there something you want to tell me?" She nudges the side of my stomach, winking mischievously.

"No mom. Nada. Could be just sweat; boy is it hot in here." Tom looks at us confused as if he had no idea what my mom was referring to. I can't believe she'd think I was pregnant.

As we gather my mom's bags, we have a car waiting for us outside which just so happens to be surrounded by insane fangirls who are just as much in love with Tom as I am. He opens the door to the car, helping us in before turning his back with the car door slightly open as he begins signing some autographs.

This man. I though. He always makes times for his fans. Incredible. He promised them only 10 minutes but 20 later he finally slide into the car, waving to fans as we leave.

Finally the planning can start, with my mom in town for a while she can help Diana, Emma and myself solidify all the minut details left. Tom and I still need to agree on a venue; that could be where things get a little complicated. Or so I thought.

"So, any idea where you both want to get hitched?" My mom trying to mimic a southern accent. Tom and I glance at each other, both of us with blank expressions. "I totally forgot about that!" he says astonished. "That's the most important thing! Marie, any ideas? I honestly don't care, as long as you're happy."

Being that neither of us is religious, a church would be a tad ironic and hypocritical however I remember something I saw the night Tom proposed.

"What about that Minister Mill we saw driving to your mom's cottage in Oxford?" I say nonchalantly. Tom's eyes widen and gloss over. "That's where my parents got married." His voice intrigued. "It's perfect though it doesn't hold many people. You haven't sent out the invitations yet?"

I shake my head no. "We were suppose to confirm guests when you got back. We don't need a lot of people, Tom. Just close friends and family. Intimate." He winks before smiling.

We pull up to Tom's house where Diana and Emma are meeting us. Tom escorts my mom and me out of the car as we begin to make way up to the door. Emma opens his front door, yelling, "They're here, Mum!!!" Diana rushes out, Emma in hand, over to greet her son and I.

"Diana, this is my mom Ann," I introduce as both ladies hug each other in a friendly embrace.

"So nice to finally meet you Ann, you're daughter is very lovely." Diana shifts her eye over to me with a smile before continuing. "I hope that you can help make things easier for Marie. Poor thing, she's so stressed."

"Thank you so much for helping out with the plans. Both of you," she looks to Emma who nods in appreciation. "I can't wait to get the ball rolling and finalize this. These two lovebirds need to make this official so I can start having grandbabies."

Tom starts coughing awkwardly as my face turns as red as a coca-cola can. The fuck mom!?_ Tom glances down at me before nudging my arm. I can only fester out a headshake. Seriously, why does this need to be brought up?

Diana couldn't agree more, "I can't wait to have a Tom Jr. running around my cottage..." Both Tom and I look to Emma, the saving grace and Queen of conversation changers.

"Shall we head inside? I'm sure you're all hungry? There's some food being delivered!" She winks at the both of us as we smile. Tom grabs the luggage and the two mothers are arm-in-arm walking inside.

"Call Kris, Marie. I'd like her to be here, she's an important person in this wedding too, and her input is appreciated." He hands me his phone from his pocket as I dial her phone.

No answer.

I leave a message asking her to come to Tom's when she can. We'll be here all night considering that my mom will be roomed upstairs in one of Tom's guestrooms.

For one moment I almost forgot how lovely his home is - I haven't been in here for a little over a month - decorated nicely with a black and white theme. Framed art hangs on the walls as bookcases fill the hallways. Smart and classy, the perfect reflection of his character.

Diana takes the role of showing my mom around his place, including her room, while Emma places her luggage in the hallway outside of her door before returning to the living room. I disappear into Tom's study, my most favorite room in his house.

It's so tranquil and neatly organized; plus the most comfortable chair in the world resides in his study. I can't count how many times I've accidently fell asleep in that chair during our long nights talking as he's doing some work on his laptop.

On his desk is a framed picture of the two of us in Paris; one that Kris forced us to take. He's standing behind me, his arms wrapped around my waist from behind and his head rested on my right shoulder. It was taken the night before it happened, before we got 'close' yet it's the perfect example of how our relationship is.

As Kris would say "you two are so in sync it's adorable. Nothing can tear you two apart your friendship," then of course she would ruin the moment by finishing with "Now if you guys would just have sex already...."

I hear a soft knock on the door. I turn to look only to see Tom leaning against the frame, his arms crossed. "I love that photo of us,” he says as he softly walks over to me.

"I do too. That was a great weekend." I emphasize on the word 'great' hoping he would catch onto what I meant. He wraps his arms around me from behind, just like the photo. He whispers into my ear.

"It was the beginning of something beautiful." He kisses my right cheek with chills running down my spine. It's been so long since he's touched me that the feeling is intense. Turning the position of my body, his arms still wrapped around me, I'm facing his front.

"We're really doing this, Tom. You and I; we're getting married. I just wish we didn't have to wait so long." He touches my cheek, his hand stopping under my chin.

"We're in this together, babe. Always and forever." He plants a kiss on my lips, the taste of the wine he was drinking at the airport still trapped in his mouth. His arms pull me closer to him as our kiss gets deeper.

For once in my life, everything seems to be heading in the right direction and I'm finally living my life without any doubt. I know Tom loves me, I've finally accepted that this is really happening. It's far from that fairytale that you imagine of when you’re a 6-yer old girl but the fact it's a little unplanned makes it so much more special.
