《The Love Abroad》Chapter 25

I'm awakened by my phone ringing - the ringtone is 'I Miss You' by Incubus - Tom is calling. I scramble from under the covers, fixing my hair and clearing my voice. Why I'm fixing my hair, I don't know. I mean, he's not here so he can't see what I look like.

"Hello? Tom?!" I squeal into the voice box, my enthusiasm audible in the other room. He answers back almost mimicking me. "Marie! Dear, how are you? I miss you so much." It's been almost two weeks since I've talked to him, yet it feels like a lifetime. "Tom, everything is...everything. I miss you like crazy, you have no idea. Kris is driving me crazy; I need some testosterone around me." I can hear him laughing through the phone.

"Are you sure everything is okay? You're voice doesn't sound so convincing." Ah, he knows me too well. Of course everything isn't okay, I'm here planning a wedding in 3 months while he's traveling the world for The Avengers, having the time of his life. "I'm just a little stressed but I'm better now since I'm talking to you." I can't help but grin, making my own face blush.

"I'll be home in a couple of weeks. Well, I'll be in Europe; I can easily come home if needed, Marie. You know that, right? I'll be on the next flight if you need me to be." Okay, he's convinced me. Come home, NOW! "No, its okay, I'm fine. I just needed to hear your voice, it calms me." He could be on his way home, Marie. You dumbass. He sighs so loud I can hear him.

"Is everything okay with you?" Now it's my turn to prod on his feelings. I can't imagine how stressed he is with all this traveling and interviews he's doing; always answering the same questions over and over. "I guess I'm not used to not being around you, that's all. But I'm having a blast nonetheless; I wish you could be here with me."

"Well at least you're staying busy and meeting your fans. That must make it worth it?" The London premiere is two weeks before we plan on getting married and lucky me I get to miss it. Midterms are the week after the showing, so I'll be spending that whole weekend studying my ass off.

"It's so worth it. My fans make everything so much better though it's a little overwhelming at times but I don't take any of them for granted. I love them all." His voice trails off and I hear whispers in the background. "Babe, as much as I don't want to...." I interrupt him, "I know you have to go. It's okay."

"I love you Marie. Oh so very much."

"I love you too Tom. Get some rest, you'll need it." That sounds like something a wife would say. God, what is happening to me? "Remember, I'm only a phone call away." We say our temporary goodbyes and I'm left alone in my room, the sun finding itself through my curtains.

The only thing that fills my brain is that my mom will be here in 3 days. Finally some family to relieve this huge stress ball from my shoulders. I stumble out of bed, not giving one care in the world as to how I look. Kris is in the kitchen making breakfast, my nostrils filled with the smell of french toast and tea.

"Good morning sleepyhead! Wasn't expecting you until noon after last night. That paper kicked your ass yesterday."

Ahh the paper. The paper for my Classics class, an utter atrocity of a paper too. "Well at least it's finished, now to edit." I grab a cup of tea, putting only a splash of milk inside. "That's the last paper I'll be writing, well, in college anyway." I graduate this year and I'll be graduating with my classmates at Cambridge rather than my University back in the States. It's more formal I guess, at least from what Tom has told me.

Kris serves me a plate of two pieces of french toast with a side of peanut butter. Nom, nom, nom! She kits across the table from me with a questioning look on her refreshed face.

"Just ask me Kris." Being blunt is the best way with her.

"So what's going to happen after Cambridge?" She forks a bit of food into her mouth, syrup dripping down her chin. "What do you mean?"

"Well Tom and you will be married but your visa will expire after graduation. Have you sorted out all the necessary visas?"

Shit.

"Ummm...no? I think I just file for the citizenship after we marry and the work visas." I never thought of it, really. Kris nods her head, "So you're planning on living in the UK for a while I'm assuming? I hear it can be difficult for an Englishman to move to the US. You guys are so strict."

I drink some of my tea, the liquid coating the inside of my throat.

"That's the plan. I've lived her for almost a year and I don't even want to think about leaving. I doubt Tom wants to permanently move to the States anyway. Plus he has all his papers and stuff to travel there when he likes, he just can't live there year round."

She smiles as if I said the correct answer. "Good. I couldn't imagine having to say goodbye to my best friend."

I grin slightly. "Nor I with my maid of honor. I'm here to stay; they'll have to run me out of this country if they want me gone!" We both break into laughter.

As if I didn't have enough little details to worry about and now I do. I'm really tempted to call my knight in shining armor to come rescue me.
