《It's Now or Never》Part 4

After we went over the plan, Steve disappeared. I decided to go find him and see if he was alright. Steve was standing on a bridge in front of the facility when I found him. I could tell he was thinking of something and I knew who. Bucky.
"He's gonna be there, you know?" I said to Steve as I stood next to him resting my forearms on the railing of the bridge.
"I know." That was all Steve said.
"Look, whoever he used to be, the guy he is now, I don't think he's the kind you save. He's the kind you stop." I said looking down off the bridge.
"I don't know if I can do that," Steve said giving me a sideways glance.
"I'm with you, no matter what happens there. He may be the Winter Soldier now, but Bucky might still be in there somewhere if you think so. I know you would do anything to go back to the way it was and have a familiar face who knows you well. I'm lucky to have Sam who can do that for me, but you have the Avengers and us to be that for you." I said. Steve didn't answer so I started turning to leave Steve alone after he didn't answer me. He then reached out and stopped me from leaving.
"It's hard knowing he's out there. I want to save him." Steve said softly to me.
"Trust me I know. I can only imagine what it was like coming out of the ice and having everyone you know and care about gone. When all this fighting is done you want someone that you can call home and that's hard to find. When my brother died, I thought I had nothing since he was the only family I had left. When they needed another soldier to go on one last mission, I volunteered. It took me a while to realize that Sam was my rock." I said staring at my hands as they gripped the railing.
" You and Sam have something special," Steve said looking at me.
"He's my brother," I said with a small smile. I reached out and placed my hand on the side of Steve's face.
"We'll get your family back. If that's what you need." I said.
Steve pulled me into a hug. As we slowly pulled apart our faces hovered next to each other. I wanted to kiss him and I knew he wanted to kiss me. It just didn't feel like the right time. I placed my hand on his cheek and gave him a small smile. I turned and headed back to the facility to get my stuff and get ready for the battle ahead.
As we headed towards Triskelion where the Helicarriers are being held, we made a pitstop at the Smithsonian for Steve to grab his uniform. I laughed at him as he came out of the Smithsonian with it on.
"Couldn't live without it I see." He gave me a small smile as we drove off.
As we enter the building we hear the man on the PA say,
"We are in the final launch sequence."
We all look at each other and head towards the door. As one of the Tech guys goes and opens the door, he's faced with Steve, Sam, Hill, and me. I step forward and aim my gun at him.
"Excuse us," Steve says to the man. The tech guy holds his hands up and steps aside to let us enter.

Steve walks over to the SHIELD microphone that everyone in the building can hear and he starts to talk. I stand next to him placing my hand close to his hand that is resting on the table. He feels my presence and looks over at me. I give him a small smile before he starts his speech.
"Attention, all SHIELD agents. This is Steve Rogers. You've heard a lot about me over the last few days, some of you were even ordered to hunt me down. But I think it's time you know the truth. SHIELD is not what we thought it was, it's been taken over by HYDRA. Alexander Pierce is their leader. The STRIKE and Insight crew are HYDRA as well. I don't know how many more, but I know they're in the building. They could be standing right next to you. They almost have what they want: absolute control. They shot Nick Fury and it won't end there. If you launch those Helicarriers today, HYDRA will be able to kill anyone that stands in their way, unless we stop them. I know I'm asking a lot, but the price of freedom is high, it always has been, and it's a price I'm willing to pay. And if I'm the only one, then so be it. But I'm willing to bet I'm not."
"Did you write that down first, or was it off the top of your head?" I softly said to Steve as I placed my left hand on top of his right hand on the desk. He smiled at me back and placed his other hand, left hand, on top of mine, squeezing it.
"They're initiating launch." Maria Hill says to us.
"Ok, we got the Helicarriers. Hopefully, Natasha and Fury aren't having any problems with Pierce." Sam said to Hill as we left the room.
Steve, Sam, and I make our way to the Helicarriers.
"Hey, Cap, how do we know the good guys from the bad guys?" Sam called out.
"If they're shooting at you, they're bad," Steve said back.
Sam then, in his Falcon suit, flies off while Steve and I head down to the Helicarriers we have to take down. HYDRA agents started shooting at us and Sam flies around avoiding getting shot as I run behind Steve as he holds up his shield. Over the communication devices we have in our ears, Sam says,
"Hey, Cap, I found those bad guys you were talking about."
"You okay?" I say back into the device.
"I'm not dead yet," Sam says back. I look at Steve with a worried look on my face. He tries and gives me a small smile to let me know that Sam will be ok. I take out my two guns from my waistband and start shooting. After a couple of minutes of that, Agent Hill speaks over our communication devices,
"Falcon, status?"
"Engaging," Sam says back as I watch Sam fly down to the Hellicarrier bay taking down the HYDRA jets chasing him.
"Alright, Cap, I'm in."
Just then another HYDRA jet heads his way and starts shooting at him.
"Shit!" Sam yells. He manages to fly off and avoid getting hit. I shoot from the deck Steve and I stand on to damage the Helicarrier following Sam. He looks at me and gives me a salute as I go back to helping Steve with the Hydra agents as we try to get inside the Helicarrier.
"Eight minutes, Cap." Agent Hill says.
"Working on it," Steve yells back as he punches a guy and I shoot down two other men.

Steve enters the Control center of Helicarrier Alpha as I stood behind him watching our surroundings, shooting down a couple of men going for us. Steve goes over and puts in the key card in the Helicarriers system.
"Alpha locked," Cap called out.
"Falcon, where are you now?" Agent Hill called out.
"I had to take a detour!" Sam yelled over the communication devices. Steve and I watch as Sam flies towards one of the Helicarriers when heat-seeking missiles are shot at him by HYDRA. He flies back towards the Helicarrier and manages to get the missiles that were aimed at him to hit the Helicarrier, giving him entrance.
"Oh, yeah Sam!" I call out to him.
Sam then flies into the Helicarrier.
"I'm in. Bravo locked." Sam calls out and flies out of the helicarrier.
"Two down, one to go." Agent Hill says. "Charlie Carrier's forty-five degrees off the port bow. Six minutes."
Steve and I continued to try and get away from the HYDRA agents shooting at us on the Helicarrier.
"Hey, Sam, we are gonna need a ride," Steve called out. I looked at him unsure if Sam could handle both of us.
"Roger! Let me know when you're ready." Sam said back as Steve and I jumped off the edge as a HYDRA agent shot a missile at us.
"I just did!" Steve yells back as we fall. Steve grabs me and pulls me into his chest as we free fall.
Sam then flies in just in time to catch us. He flies us onto the last Helicarrier as he grunts at our weight.
"You know, you guys are a lot heavier than you look." Sam laughs at us.
"I had a big breakfast," Steve said laughing.
"I swear it was all him," I said nudging Steve's shoulder.
Suddenly Bucky appears and pushes Steve off the edge of the Helicarrier.
"Steve!" Sam and I call out. As Sam goes flying off and helps Steve, Bucky grabs one of his wings and throws him back. Sam starts shooting at Bucky and as he goes flying off again, Bucky uses his weapon to rip off one of Sam's wings and kicks him off the Helicarrier. I still look for Steve when Bucky pushes me off the Helicarrier too. I hear Steve yell my name as I fall past the Helicarrier, but I don't know where he is. I continue to fall waiting for my death when Sam scoops me up as he parachutes down towards the roof of the building.
"Cap? Cap, come in. Are you okay?" Sam says frantically.
"Yeah, I'm here! I'm still on the Helicarrier. He pushed Hayes off the Helicarrier too! Did you see her, is she ok?" I could hear the worry in his voice.
"I'm here. Sam got me." I said back trying to see if I could find Steve.
"I'm grounded, the suit's down. Sorry, Cap." Sam said
"Don't worry, I got it."
"Please be careful Steve," I said finally seeing Steve standing in the hole in the Helicarrier.
"I will."
"Falcon? Hayes?" Agent Hill called out in the earpiece.
"Yeah?" We both said at the same time.
"Rumlow's headed for the Council." She said to us.
"We're on it."
We enter the building and hear Rumlow in the Hall.
"I'm on forty-one, headed towards the southwest stairwell," Rumlow says. As we approach him. He doesn't know we are behind him as Sam attacks Rumlow, but Rumlow manages to knock Sam down.
"This is gonna hurt. There are no prisoners with HYDRA, just order. And order only comes through pain. You ready for yours?" Rumlow said to us.
"Man shut the hell up," Sam says still on the ground. I jump towards him, wrapping my legs around the front of his body, putting him in a chokehold. He tries to hit me but fails. Rumlow then starts running towards the wall and slams by body up against the wall. I let go and slide to the ground holding the back of my head as Sam jumps up and fights him. As I start to stand again realizing my head was bleeding, Agent Hill speaks over the earpiece,
"One minute."
Steve doesn't answer. After a little while, she speaks again.
"Thirty seconds, Cap!" She says.
I jump up as Sam is pushed away from Rumlow and I run towards him and knee him in the stomach, causing him to collapse. I kick the side of his head and run over to pick up Sam who was now on the ground.
"Stand by," Cap says over the earpiece. I hear a gunshot over the earpiece and look up at the Helicarrier.
"Steve?!" I yell into the earpiece.
"Charlie locked." He finally says. I smile down at Sam as I help him up.
"Okay, Cap, get out of there." Agent Hill says. Sam and I then watch as the Helicarrier's weapons turn to face each other.
"Fire now," Steve said back.
"But, Steve..." Agent Hill said back.
"Do it! Do it now!" Steve yells.
"No Steve!" I scream as I run over to the window of the building and look up to the Helicarriers.
"It's ok Hayes. I'm with my family." Cap said
"We are your family too," I said with tears.
"This is why I'm doing this. Keep you out of danger." Steve said before the line went dead. Just then one Helicarrier crashes into the Lake beneath the Triskelion. Rumlow then sat up off the ground and calls out to us.
"You're out of your depth, kids."
"Ugh, could you just stayed down?" I groaned as I got ready to fight him. He came charging at me as Sam swung to hit him. He dodged Sam's swing and came for me. He tackled me to the ground. I elbowed his sides and landed a sweet punch to his nose. He quickly scrambled off of me grabbing his nose as I watched the first Helicarrier crash into the Triskelion. Sam grabbed me off the ground and we ran for our lives. The collapse caught up to Rumlow and he was lost in the destruction.
"Please, tell me you got that chopper in the air!" Sam calls out over the earpiece as we continue to run, knowing we will run out of the building.
"Sam, Hayes, where are you?" Natasha spoke back.
"41st floor, north-west corner!" Sam, yelled back
"We're on it, stay where you are."
Sam and I desperately try to get away from the destruction the Helicarrier caused when it crashed into the building.
"Not an option!" I called out as the building starts to crumble beneath us.
Sam looks at me as we continue to run towards the window mentally telling me that we need to jump now. We jump out of the window with no hesitation as Natasha and Fury fly the chopper barely in time to catch us.
"41st floor! 41st!" I yell at them as Sam and I try to catch our breaths in the chopper.
"It's not like they put the floor numbers on the outside of the building!" Fury joking said back.
"Hill, where's Steve? You got a location on Rogers?" Natasha spoke into the earpiece.
She doesn't answer. I start to panic as I see all the Helicarriers are down. As we fly around, I see what looks like a person laying on the shore of the lake.
"There!" I yelled pointing at the figure. They brought the chopper down and saw it was Steve. We lifted him and brought him to the hospital.
In the hospital, in a room guarded by two armed agents, Steve laid in bed. Sam and I sat there and played Marvin Gaye's "Trouble Man" on a speaker as we sat next to Steve's bed. As I started to dose off I heard a sweet voice,
"On your left."
I look over Steve, seeing his eyes are still closed, and smile at him. I reach out and grab his hand, holding it in mine. I look over at sam as he shakes his head with a smile and leans back deeper into the chair he sat in.
Once Steve was better since his apartment was destroyed, Sam offered him to live with us. Sam was extremely excited when he said yes. So was I, but I was good at hiding it, I hope. We were on our way to the cemetery to meet Nick Fury for who knows what. I sat next to Steve in the car as Sam sat next to the cab driver. When we got there Fury was there wearing sunglasses and a hoodie, standing at his own grave.
"So, you've experienced this sort of thing before?" Fury said.
"You get used to it," Steve said grabbing my hand.
"We've been data-mining HYDRA's files. Looks like a lot of rats didn't go down with the ship. I'm headed to Europe tonight, wanted to ask if you'd come." Fury said staring at his grave.
"There's something I gotta do first," Steve said.
"How about you guys, Wilson, Kennedy? Could use a man and a woman with your abilities." Fury said to Sam and me.
"I'm more of a soldier than a spy," Sam answered.
"I can't go back to that," I said. Steve squeezed my hand before releasing it.
"Alright then," Fury says as he shakes our hands. "Anybody asks for me, tell them they can find me right here."
As Fury walks away, Natasha walks towards us.
"You should be honored, that's about as close as he gets to saying thank you." She joked to Steve.
"Not going with him?"
"No." That was all she said.
"Not staying here?"
"I blew all my covers, I gotta go figure out a new one."
"That might take a while."
"I'm counting on it. That thing you asked for, I called in a few favors." She then hands Steve a file titled "дело No 17" (file No 17)]
"Will you do me a favor? And ask out Hayes."
I blushed as Sam nudged my side and Steve looked back at me.
"Will do," Steve said.
Natasha then kisses Steve on the cheek and turned to walk away.
"Be careful, Steve. You might not want to pull on that thread." She said as she walked away. Steve opens the file, which is about Bucky and the information regarding his Winter Soldier transformation. Sam and I walk over to Steve as he closes the file.
"You're going after him?" Sam asked.
"You don't have to come with me," Steve said as he looked up at us. I turned and looked at Sam. He gave me a smile and nod.
"I know. When do we start" I said turning back to face Steve.
"Now," Steve said as we walked towards the taxi.

Yin-Yang
Mages in North America seem to have it all – typically from well-off families, and able to manipulate their environment in ways most of the world would never believe. They don’t even have to bother with the mundane details of life like housework, thanks to their sensitives, who also make a useful source for extra magical energy. After all, sensitives have no use for it themselves, and if mages weren’t meant to make use of it, then the sensitives would obviously have some way to prevent that. That a mage can transform a sensitive physically, with no restrictions beyond overall mass and basic biological viability, whereas magic tends not to work directly on any other living thing, is only further proof. And look at the way they live on their own, barely a step above animals. It’s better for them to belong to a mage. Sensitives in North America live on the edge of society and survival – typically so paranoid they avoid hospitals and anything else that could lead to being tracked, many of them with little or no education and no legal identity or existence. Mages exist, and mages want sensitives for some reason, but no one ever comes back to explain what that reason is. Waiting every day for the hunters to notice them doesn’t lead to much motivation or hope for the future. And once they’re captured, they’re the property of someone with a terrifying amount of power over them. Anything is better than capture. Mages are born to be the masters, and sensitives are born victims. Or are they? Jax’s life is turned upside-down when he’s caught by the hunters and sold to a mage. Andreas is still mourning for his previous sensitive, though, unconsciously creating a difficult standard for Jax to live up to, all the more so while still struggling to come to terms with this new reality as Andreas’ sensitive. A runaway sensitive isn’t what Van expects at the mental health centre. Is this a hunter trap, set for him and the rest of the Donovan family by the hunters? The hunters would, after all, love to see them cross the line openly and finally do something they can be charged with. Either way, Miranda’s genuinely in trouble, and he can’t just abandon her to it. Snatching a sensitive out from under the hunters and hiding her is odd behaviour for a mage – but then, Catherine is an odd mage, living in disgrace in the old servants’ quarters of her grandmother’s house, responsible for cooking and housework. Lila owes Catherine her freedom; is there a way to help Catherine achieve her own, and at what price? Tension is building between traditionally-minded mages and those advocating change, and something has to break. *** Yin-Yang includes a small amount of profanity and no graphic sex or on-screen physical violence. However, sex and gender roles and relationships within the mage/sensitive subculture are non-traditional in mainstream North American terms. The key criterion in a primary relationship is not relative sex or gender, but the pairing of mage and sensitive; given the transformation of sensitives by their mages, physical sex is non-absolute for a sensitive, and gender identity can vary as in anyone else. *** *** The way mages treat sensitives is extremely varied and, in some cases is outright abusive. The struggle against that is pretty much the point of the book. It is NOT grimdark or misery-porn! However, if you will be triggered by this, please, don't read Yin-Yang! *** Complete stand-alone novel, 153K words! Also available on Scribble Hub and as a free ebook.
