《It's Now or Never》Part 2

The next morning I was woken up to Sam shaking me.
"Get up and come here." He said aggressively before running downstairs. I quickly got up and followed him downstairs into the living room. The news was on and Steve's face was the headliner. Under his name, it said fugitive. I didn't want to hear what was being said on the tv, so I turned and headed into the kitchen.
"I think Cap is in trouble," Sam said as he followed me into the kitchen.
"He knows we're here for him. He will come or maybe ask for help when he knows it's safe." I said walking over to the coffee maker. I started to make coffee as I could feel Sam freaking out behind me.
"I got to help him," Sam said slamming his fist down on the kitchen counter.
"Easy there. We don't know where is Sam or how to contact him. He has our information, So stop and wait. He will come when he is ready or if we hear he's in the area we'll find him and help." I said turning to lean my back against the kitchen counter as I waited for my coffee to be ready.
It had been a day since Captain America was named a fugitive. Sam and I had just returned from our morning run when I heard a knock at our door. I looked over at Sam as he looked back at me. He then slowly began to walk over to the door. I stood behind him waiting to see who it was. We don't get visitors and no one ever comes unannounced. He opened the door and saw it was Steve and Natasha.
"Hey, man," Sam said.
"I'm sorry about this. We need a place to lay low." Steve said looking at Sam and then at me.
"Everyone we know is trying to kill us," Natasha said. Sam pauses and looked at me for a moment before I gave him a nod and he turned back to Steve and Natasha.
"Not everyone," Sam said as he let them enter. He told them where they can clean up and that we had a lot of extra clothing for them to borrow.
The bathroom they used was next to my room, so I stood in the doorframe and talked to Natasha who just finished with her shower. Steve was in the bathroom washing up. He then walked into the room when there was a lull in the conversation between Natasha and me and leaned against the doorframe.
"You okay?" He asked Natasha.
"Yeah." She said back.
"What's going on?" Steve asked. I looked back and forth between them and decided to give them some privacy.
"I'll be downstairs if you need me," I said, Steve gave me a nod as I walked out of the room. I stopped at the top of the stairs and listened to the rest of their conversation.
"When I first joined SHIELD, I thought I was going straight. But I guess I just traded in the KGB for HYDRA. I thought I knew whose lies I was telling, but...I guess I can't tell the difference anymore." Natasha said.
"There's a chance you might be in the wrong business," Steve said back.
"I owe you." She said sternly.
"It's okay," Steve replied.
"If it was the other way around, and it was down to me to save your life, and you be honest with me, would you trust me to do it?" She asked. I could hear the hurt in her voice.

"I would now. And I'm always honest." Steve said. His words caused me to smile.
"Well, you seem pretty chipper for someone who just found out they died for nothing."
"Well, I guess I just like to know who I'm fighting," Steve said. After that, I walked down the stairs and into the dining room. Sam walked by me and called up to Steve and Natasha.
"I made breakfast. If you guys...eat that sort of thing." Sam said. I let out a little laugh as I headed into the kitchen. When they came downstairs, we ate in silence. After we were all done, Steve, Natasha, and Sam started to talk about their plan.
"So, the question is: who in SHIELD could launch a domestic missile strike?" Natasha asked as we sat around the dining room table.
"Pierce," Steve said crossing his arms.
"Who happens to be sitting on top of the most secure building in the world," Natasha said looking down at my hands that rested on the table.
"But he's not working alone, Zola's algorithm was on the Lemurian Star," Steve said back.
"So was Jasper Sitwell," Natasha added.
"So, the real question is: how do the two most wanted people in Washington kidnap a SHIELD officer in broad daylight?" Steve said.
"The answer is: you don't," Sam said. He left the room quickly and came back just as fast. He dropped a file on the table in front of Steve.
"What's this?" Steve asked.
"Call it a resume," Sam said.
"Sam not without me."
I went and grabbed my file, placing it on the table. Sam gave me a look, but he knew it wouldn't change anything, no matter what he said to me.
Natasha picked up Sam's file first and grabbed a photo of Sam with his para-rescue team.
"Is this Bakhmala? The Khalid Khandil mission, that was you?" Natasha asked. "You didn't say he was a para-rescue." She said looking at Steve. Steve grabbed the photo.
"Is this Riley?" Steve asked.
"Yeah," Sam said looking at Steve and then at me.
"I heard they couldn't bring in the choppers because of the RPGs. What did you use, a stealth chute?" Natasha asked Sam.
"No. These," Sam said as he handed Steve the rest of the file for Steve to read. He opened it and started to read. A smirk played on Steve's lips as he looked back up at Sam.
"I thought you said you were a pilot."
"I never said the pilot," Sam said in a cocky voice.
"And you Hayes, this is impressive," Natasha said as she read my file.
"It's a lot and it makes me look like the enemy, but it was what I was assigned as with my team. We were there to make it easy for others coming in or we were there to keep the problems quiet." I said to Natasha.
"Trust me, I understand." She said placing her hand on my shoulder. I knew she truly did. She was a Russian spy, designed to kill, just like me. America was dirty just like everyone else.
Steve grabbed the file and started to read it a little. He then looked up at me.
"U.S. assassin huh?" He said to me.
"It started as simple missions, but as you can see when Tony Stark made the Iron man suit many people tried to copy him. It led to destruction and many deaths. My team was responsible for taking them out and making sure no one finds out."

He nodded and continued to read the file. I knew there was worse stuff on there, but I didn't want to get into detail about it. Steve then closed my file and sat up straight.
"I can't ask you to do this, Sam and Hayes. You got out for a good reason." Steve said to us.
"Dude, Captain America needs my help. There's no better reason to get back in." Sam said excitingly.
"Me too," I added.
Steve then looked back at the photos of Sam and me and pointed at our uniforms in the pictures.
"Where can we get our hands on one of these things and your uniforms?" Steve asked.
"The last one is at Fort Meade, behind three guarded gates and a twelve-inch steel wall," I answered.
Steve looked at Natasha who shrugs her shoulders at him.
"Shouldn't be a problem," Steve said to us as he shot up from his seat.
After we got our gear from the Fort, we headed to get the one man that would give us answers. Steve made a plan that would help us get Jasper Sitwell. Sam went to sit at a restaurant table to get a view of Jasper so he could grab him. I sat in the car, waiting for Sam to bring him to me so I could bring him to Captain and Natasha.
As I sat in the car for a while, Sam soon rounded the corner and pushed Jasper into the car aggressively. Sam sat next to him in the back seat as we started to drive off. When we got to an abandoned building, Sam went off and I brought Jasper up to the roof. Steve and Natasha stood there waiting for me. Steve went up to Jasper and ripped him from my grasp. He threw him up against the ledge of the building roof.
"Tell me about Zola's algorithm," Steve said aggressively gripping the man's shirt collar in his large hands.
"Never heard of it," Jasper said in a cocky voice.
"What were you doing on the Lemurian Star?" Steve said throwing him back against the roof ledge.
"I was throwing up, I get seasick," Jasper said confidently.
Steve forced Sitwell to the edge of the rooftop again and Sitwell just smiled creepily.
"Is this little display meant to insinuate that you're gonna throw me off the roof? Because it's really not your style, Rogers." Jasper said with a creepy smile still on his face.
"You're right. It's not." Steve asks as he smoothes his jacket out and steps away. "It's hers."
Natasha steps forward and kicks him off the rooftop.
"Oh, wait. What about that girl from accounting, Laura...?" Natasha suddenly says. I stood there confused at what she started to talk about.
"Lillian. Lip piercing, right?" Steve corrected her.
"Yeah, she's cute," Natasha said with a smile. I started to get jealous of this Lillian girl.
"Yeah, I'm not ready for that." Steve said he then turned to me and said "Natasha is trying to find me a date." He smiled at me. Natasha could tell I was not impressed.
"Oh, I see. Well, I think you are looking in the wrong places Natasha." I said looking at her and then back a Steve who was looking at me dumbfounded from my confidence and words. My eyes went wide as I regretted saying that cringy sentence. Suddenly, Sam, in his Falcon jet-pack suit with wings, flies upholding Sitwell and throws him down on the roof snapping us out of our conversation. Steve, Natasha, and I walk towards Sitwell as he holds his hands up in fear.
"Zola's algorithm is a program...for choosing Insight's targets!" Jasper Sitwell says with a shaky voice.
"What targets?" I called out from behind Natasha.
"You! A TV anchor in Cairo, the Undersecretary of Defense, a high school valedictorian in Iowa City. Bruce Banner, Stephen Strange, anyone who's a threat to HYDRA! Now, or in the future." Jasper said looking at all of us.
"The Future? How could it know?" Steve asks. Sitwell laughs at him and says, "How could it not? The 21st century is a digital book. Zola taught HYDRA how to read it."
Steve and Natasha looked at him in confusion.
"Your bank records, medical histories, voting patterns, e-mails, phone calls, your damn SAT scores. Zola's algorithm evaluates people's past to predict their future." Jasper finishes.
"And what then?" Steve said getting up in his face.
"Oh, my God. Pierce is gonna kill me." Jasper said desperately.
"What then?!" Steve yelled grabbing his collar again.
"Then the Insight Helicarriers scratch people off the list. A few million at a time." Jasper said. We all stood there in shock. This was worse than I thought. We grabbed Jasper and headed down towards the car. We all climbed in. Natasha went off to get more information and meet us at Triskelion, as we were planning on taking Jasper there.
"Hydra doesn't like leaks," Jasper said as he sat next to me.
"So why don't you try sticking a cork in it," Sam said angrily looking at him through the mirror.
Steve's phone went off as he got a text from Natasha. He read it out loud, "Insight's launching in sixteen hours, we're cutting it a little bit close here."
Steve answered back and read it out loud, "We'll use him to bypass the DNA scans and access the Helicarriers directly." He then put his phone back into his pocket.
"What?! Are you crazy? That is a terrible, terrible idea." Jasper said.
I was about to tell him to shut up when something landed on the roof of the car, pulling Sitwell out through the window of the car and throwing him into the oncoming traffic, killing him. Steve grabs me from the back seat and pulls me onto his lap. The person then starts shooting at us until Steve pulls the broken handle making the man drop down from the roof onto the street. I stared at him as I heard cars smashing around us. A car then smashed into the back of our car, pushing us along.
The man then jumps back onto the hood of our car, smashing his metal hand through the windscreen, and pulls out the steering wheel
"Shit!" Sam yells. I grab my gun and start shooting at the man, but he jumps onto the vehicle behind us, as our car is being pulled off the road. I watch as Steve holds on to the car door and looks at me than Sam.
"Hang on!" He yells to us. He breaks open the door, holding onto me and Sam. We slide on the car door through the streets as the man is joined by HYDRA agents.
They start shooting at us and we scatter and run in different directions. The man with the metal arm starts to shoot at me. I attack one of the men near me and take his weapon and grafting hook. As the man continues to shoot at me, I jump down from the bridge with the hook and start to escape when I see the man with the metal arm's shadow. I stop and look up, shooting at him and hitting his goggles. I then take off running to find somewhere safe to help Sam and Steve.
"Она у меня. Найди его. (She's mine. I'll take care of her. Find him." The man yelled to the others. I didn't know what it meant, but I knew I was in trouble. I turn and see the man is pursuing me as the other hydra agents fight Sam and Steve. I turn around and start shooting at the man with the metal arm. He uses his metal arm to deflect my perfect shots. I started to run again when he started to get closer.
"Go, I got this!" Sam yelled. I looked over my shoulder to see him talking to Steve. I hide behind a car and decide to try and trick the man. I recorded my voice on my phone and left it there to make it seem like i was hiding there. I slowly crawled away and found a good spot to attack the man. He walks over to where he thinks I am and rolls a bomb towards where I'm supposed to be hiding. As the bomb explodes I jump onto the Soldier's back and try to kill him by strangling him. It works for a bit before he throws me off of him. I get up quickly and start running off as he goes after me.
"Get out of the way! Stay out of the way!" I yell towards the people still in the streets as I tried to reload my gun. Suddenly I got shot in the shoulder. I let out a wimpier as I fall to the ground by a car. My breathing started to get heavy as I looked around and couldn't find him. He then shoots up from behind me really to kill me, when Steve jumps in and attacks him. They fight and in the process the Soldier takes Steve's shield and throws it at him, but Steve manages to avoid being hit. After battling it out more, Steve starts to get some good punches in. The Soldier's mask comes off as Steve gives him a harsh shove. The man turns around as I watch Steves facial expression change.
"Bucky?" Steve calls out. I look at the man and recognize him from the Smithsonian.
"Who the hell is Bucky?" The Soldier yells back. As Bucky goes to shoot at Steve, Sam flies in and kicks Bucky aside. Bucky then aims again, but before he can shoot I used the grenade launcher Bucky had dropped earlier. As the smoke clears, Bucky is gone and the HYDRA agents being led by Rumlow surround us. I drop the gun and slid down the car I was using for support. My shoulder was killing me and I was losing a lot of blood. I was good at my job and had only got shot once before, so this was the second time. This one definitely hurt more.
"Drop the shield, Cap! On your knees! Get on your knees! Now! Get down! Get down!" Rumlow yelled.
Steve held his hands up.
"Get on your knees! Down!" Rumlow yelled at Cap kicking his legs out causing Steve to kneel.
"Don't move." Rumlow looks up at the helicopter flying above us and warns the man who's holding Steve at gunpoint to put the gun down.
"Put the gun down. Not here. Not here!" Everyone lowers their guns as the Hydra agents take us into custody.

[Archive] Legend of the Nameless Hero
A WhiteSamurai original Web Novel There are always the mysterious tales of heroes, those who fight against the Demons, who fight for justice and those who head mighty quests against tyranny. Heroes that are born to destiny, Heroes that are forged through tragedy, and Heroes that are brought to the world in times of great peril and strife. Not all true Heroes are wanted or beloved, but all life understands, that throughout all time and space, for those who truly stand as Heroes, they never need to be called one. The sands of time are the only true judge for those who journey upon the true path, the only one they will ever need. This is the tale, no, the Legend, the Legend of the one who throughout all time, would forever be, the First Hero. This is Their story, a story of true hardship, of a sorrow greater than any other that would stand as a symbol of inspiration no matter the test of time. A tale of darkness, a true curse, an impending evil hidden beyond the horizons that threatened the very future of existence. This is the tale, of one of the few great figures, who, in the face of true evil, continued to stand. . . . _______________________________________________________________ :Disclaimer: _______________________________________________________________ . . . All Chapters are subject to sudden revision, scrapping, or complete removal from the canonical storyline. The author of "Legend of the Nameless Hero" uses RoyalRoad as a method of experimentation with genre's and writing styles for Fantasy-style works for the sake of eventual publication. The end result isn't to release perfect chapters on RoyalRoadl, but eventually develop the story as intended using the best material to produce the highest quality work. The best mentality when reading works from WhiteSamurai is to see it as the ability to read and review pre-release transcripts or "Rough Copies" before publication. Viewer discretion and maturity are both requested and required. . . . _______________________________________________________________ :About: _______________________________________________________________ . . . This story follows direct character point of views along with an intentional third person narrative to explain to the readers what the characters won't. (I don't use my characters to go give extensive explanations for every last thing like EVERYTHING DOES) This tale shall encompass the life of the Hero from the moment she is summoned into the Kingdom of Kremor, to the Legendary Final Clash. This isn't your run of the mill hack and slash raise an army and conquer, I don't follow that bandwagon. Real life holds politics, intrigue, economics, structure, populations, civil opinions, history, psychology, heart, suffering, wonder, advancement, curiosity, ambition, and so many more things that would lead to me hitting some character limit. I refuse to take the same route that others use by simply ignoring these factors, my worlds, my stories, are as real as they get. There's no plot armor here, if someone screws up, they've screwed up and there's no magical sword in a well for them. I write in 'Seasons' not 'Books' as many often do, these are generally, not always, hundreds of chapters long, though as I have yet to finish a season, the average length is in the air. I go by an ideal of what I call 'Universal Lore' which includes the policy that things that exist within the story don't follow the rule where the Protagonist needs to be there so that it will happen. There will be some things that will happen, and the hero, and sometimes the reader, won't know happened until they enter a place, or news gets to them. A person needs to be in the right place at the right time, I hate plot holes and meta characters above all else... For my works, comments are practically demanded as reactions, thoughts, and various viewpoints are like sweet fuel to my writing spirit. Reviews are highly accepted and appreciated, BUT ONLY IF THEY ARE EDUCATED AND THOROUGHLY EXPLAINED. Those that throw down a low rating ARE HIGHLY REQUESTED to extensively detail and explain their viewpoints on the work. They should also be willing to come back to the work at a later date if messaged by the Author, Me, due to issues they mentioned being taken care of. I'm never against scrapping a chapter or rewriting several paragraphs if there are character or story discrepancies. I want the highest quality work possible, and every comment, every review, are tools for me to use to further that goal. . . . Enjoy the work. ~White Status: (Ongoing)
