Wishing Bird
It wasn't that you were lonely, you were just. . . accepting that you had problems with talking with people who seemed way more, brighter than you. Take Dupain-Cheng for example. One of the most brightest girls at your school with a sun for a smile. Though she was a klutz and sometimes a sweet little fool, she did her best to interact with you every day with a wave or just a small little smile. To you, it felt great to interact with someone like that once in a while. You always just wanted a little bit more though, maybe to talk to her more or even just to be around her more. In all honestly, you have never felt so lonely before but you always felt like you were leeching off of others.
You felt slightly scared that, if you opened your mouth around her that she may not want to be your friend anymore so you took the initiative to just observe people at or around your school. So you would mostly watch over your friends, giving them unnoticeable little pushes. Like how you noticed that Mari liked Adrien so when she was trying to catch up to the bus that one time, you asked the driver to step on it so that she would have to get a ride from Adrien who was waiting for his ride. You would often manage to get Chloe out of the locker room with a few convincing words so that Juleka and Rose would be able to spend some time together. You would always help people back without expecting much of anything in return. No one really actually noticed that you had done it all for everyone, even pushed Chole and Sabrina to be better friends from the sidelines. In all honesty it felt good most of the time but you always get a gnawing feeling at the bottom of your heart.
"What if that could be me?" It was just a mutter of a breath as you walked away from another job well done in your eyes. As you had been walking away in a slight slump again, you just didn't notice someone who had seen your deeds from the canal.
A sweet song, a tune that reached your ears that had drew you in. You looked around and saw a boy sitting on the edge. He was strumming a tune at the edge as you walk closer. When his song comes to a stop, you almost freeze in your spot and was about to dart away when he noticed you. He gestures you over as you sit down by the canal. You felt bad that you disturbed him, but before you could say a single apology that you had carefully thought of a numerous amount of times in your head the boy had spoke.
"What's your name? I never quite caught it and I always wanted to ask one of my audience members that but they always fly away." His voice was sounded like it could be slightly cocky, but he his body language showed that he was a mostly chill and soft sort of person. Your apology was thrown out the window as the first thing you thought of was a slightly more guarded response that you didn't really mean. The way you had said it, it felt harsh but you didn't really meant it. It just, had spilled over and you couldn't really just take it back how it was.

"I didn't really mean to throw my name out there." You could see a slight flinch in his eyes that he had hide well, but you immediately regretted it. "Oh god, I'm so sorry- that didn't really quite come out the way I had planned. I uh, I'm just. . . sorry? I didn't know why I said it like that." As you gave him your name, you could feel his stare as you looked away from embarrassment. "Why are you the one who's sorry? You still tossed it over and look." He said, holding a small piece of paper that he had pulled out of pocket and written your name on it. "I now finally caught your name." You huffed a small breath of laughter that mostly was stuck in your throat. He was charming with his dark hair with blue ends, bright blue eyes, and a little grin plastered to his face.
Somehow, you managed to talk with him for quite some time without making a complete and utter fool of yourself. "Your gonna see the stars tonight? I heard that the meteor shower was going to cross paths with a shooting star." You nod, surprised. "Yeah, probably from the roof of my house. It's pretty easy to get up there from the window and speaking of my house-" you said when you suddenly got another text from your worried mother. "I have to head home now. See you later, uh. . . I never quite caught on your name?" It was as if he was planned for that- tossing a crumpled piece of paper to you. Unfolding it as you read it out loud, "Luka Couffaine. . . huh, see you later Luka!" You said with a little wave as you stood up and headed towards your home, a little melody playing as you left.
Sure your mother was worried, but you managed to calm her down after making some dinner as you waited for night fall. After eating a well balanced meal, oh who were you kidding- you made prepacked food again; ramen and the only thing that required your small amount of cooking was a little bit of chicken for yourself since your mother was trying her best to go vegetarian, but failing miserably.
With you measly bowl of a microwaved ramen, you climbed up on the side of your roof with a blanket wrapped around yourself as the dark sky was littered with stars that you vaguely see as the lights in Paris were dimmed for this special occasion. A dart in the sky and then another, soon the entire sky was filled with meteors that were darting around like fish around the pond.
You closed your eyes and made a wish upon this miracle, to be able to keep doing what you did even though your heart was weighed by no one realizing what you did for them.
When you opened your eyes, you saw a small black box with red accents floating right in front of you, basked in glowing glow. It opened in front of you, a beautiful wired hummingbird pin wrapped around a red gem. As soon as you touched it with your fingers, it burst in a glowing light. A little creature with large red eyes that looked like a hummingbird breathed out a laugh as you gasped. She hugged your cheek as she flew around. "It's b-b-been so long since I've been freed! I'm so glad I came to you!" She said with a hum. "My name is Roos, and I am your Kwami! Because of your wish on this day I return, I came to you miss!"

She stays giddy as she explains that she is a Kwami attached to a Miraculous, an object that hosts energy that allows one to turn into a hero with powers. The hummingbird miraculous is one of pure love and comes to one who does their best to spread love to their peers. "Love isn't just romantic kind, it can be friendship, sibling and just honesty. Although you have your faults, don't worry we all do!" She giggles with a sigh. "I believe that you are the perfect person to hold onto my Miraculous. All you need to say is Roos, flap those wings! When your done, Roos close those wings!" She goes on to explain your powers and your tools; An ability that allows you to disappear and reaper a few feet away called Buzzing Bird, and a wishing one called Wishing Bird, which allows you to make a wish from another person come true to make things easier with a snap. Your weapon- a lasso that hardens into a pole with the touch of a button.
All of this was a whole lot of information to handle. Being a new hero with new abilities, a gift that came into the heavens that gifted you with a new friend. You probably couldn't ask for more. As you got ready for bed, Roos came in and snuggled with you, a colorful dart as she smiles sweetly. You voiced out your insecurities to her, one who seemed like a voice of reason who would be able to keep a secret. "Roos, do you think- that I could be a hero? A good one?" She gives you a soft smile as she hugs your cheek. "Of course, you already are. It's just this time, people will know who you are."
(Time Skip brought to you by a sneaky snake 🐍)
It has been a week since you have gotten your miraculous and you mostly have been helping on the sidelines with civilians. You were known as the Lady Bird after a folktale, you would grant small wishes of good that gave you luck when helping others get out of the way and move other people out the way with your lasso. Though Ladybug and Chat Noir would try to talk to you to figure out if you were a hero or a villain, you would let them decided as you did your best as Paris' s hidden hero.
Marinette was confused and worried with this new hero coming in from nowhere. She knew she had to talk with Master Fu about it since Tikki barely knew anything about this hidden hero. She was inside his home when he spoke to her about the Hummingbird hero. "I know you came for answers and I'll give you all I know. Come sit." He hands her a cup of tea from his pot. "The hummingbird Miraculous is a special one, only gifted to one who gives it their all for love and expects nothing in return. That person is usually one pure of heart and of kind intentions, but to even out the balance- they find a person who isn't meant to be a hero but is one almost everyday for others without knowing. The kwami, Roos is known to be elusive and follows on person ever 777 years before returning back into the sky. I'm expecting you want to know who it is, but since I didn't gift the Miraculous to them, I don't know who they could be. But they can make wishes come true. If someone like Hawkmoth were to get his hands on it- that would be dangerous. Make sure he doesn't find out about it." Master Fu had said as Mari finished her tea. She nods, firmly. "I won't let you down Master Fu!"
(Timeskip)
You had kept doing your little good deeds as you usually hanged around the canal to chat with Luka after school. Even though you could sometimes hear his wishes with the miraculous, they were mostly about his family. He mostly cared about his sister and was her guardian whenever his mon wasn't there. He was just as his voice, sweet but he never sang. Sometimes he would ask you to sing but you always tried to turn him down.
Today was a more different day, it started the same with your conversations but just as you were about to turn him down for the umpteenth time with him hearing your voice, Roos used her power to allow you hear his wish. It was always the same thing everyday but today it was different. It practically begged you to sing along with the song. Your not really to sure why it changed so suddenly but you allowed yourself to give in with the song. "Okay, fine- you win! I'll gift you with the presence of my voice." He grinned as he began strumming to an all too familiar song. You first hummed along, soon getting comfortable and began singing along.
Your not sure why he kept asking even though you don't sound the best in your opinion, it was just a matter of taste you guess. Which explained the taste on your lips that you honestly weren't expecting you warmed up to it, kissing him back. It was shocking but when you both pulled away, you laughed. You both did as your laughter rode on the wind and flew up into the sky. Sure, wishes and dreams change sometime but they are all built on love. Sometimes, not the ones that you think of.
I hope you all enjoyed this chapter! I always kept thinking of this miraculous and having a Luka x reader since he is one of my favorite characters. Remember to have a nice day!

Vast Asleep
The story of Kingard the Binder in the aftermath of Broken This short story is the epilogue of Broken, the second book of the Chronicles of Mother's Gate series. It’s a great follow-up to the novel, a bonus story that adds extra layers but is set apart from the full-length narrative. Vast Asleep follows the story of Kingard, who finds himself caught in a world called Mother's realm, bathed in glowing light but strangely stuck in place. He encounters his greatson Varyan there, and learns that his experiences are likely dreams. As he grows more accustomed to the loving realm around him, Kingard remembers fear and trepidation about the face of the world, and he loses contact with his companion. This story answers the question, Is Kingard really dead? with a tentative no, and new mysteries brewing. It also raises the question, What's happening while he's awake? and includes an excerpt from the sister story Ride Awake, about Kingard's situation with the Colkh'rak. Praise for Tales of the Known World Bookends: Loved it. The difference between the two stories is great! The difference between the epilogue and prologue is astounding. So much light and love in the first story. You feel safe reading it. Healing. The second, so much darkness, pain and despair. The choice of vocabulary is awesome and makes an impact. And this set of short stories ties the two books together so well. -- Dana V. of Texas ★★★★★
