《Freshman》Courtney, Angela - Feb. Vacation

Courtney
Well, its finally February vacation (thank God). I think we all needed a break.
I’m going on a cruise, so I’ll have no contact with any of my friends the whole week. Its going to be hard, but I heard cruises keep you busy. It’ll be my first one.
When Mackenzie went on a cruise over the summer, she told me every little detail. I was sick of hearing her stories, but I’d probably make my own stories on this vacation.
The cruise is out of Boston, and it docks in Bermuda for a few days. I’m really excited to get out of cold Hadley.
Speaking of Mackenzie, she and I haven’t talked in a while. I’m starting to get sick of this drama, and just make up with her. But I’m always the one to apologize, so not this time. If she doesn’t want to be my friend and say sorry first, fine.
Honestly, I don’t even know what I would say sorry for or what she would. Its been too long to remember why we were fighting. I just don’t really like her.
I do miss her, though. We might not have gotten along very well, but I have still known her since second grade. We tell each other everything. Or we used to.
There’s really nothing left of our friendship.
Enough about Mackenzie. Andrew has been avoiding me, probably because he thinks I’ll try to “talk” to him. I don’t know why he’s so scared of me.
He’s really a douche bag, and I’m pissed at him. I don’t even bother venting to any of my friends this time. They’ve heard it all before.
Note: The picture of the girl is Katie. Angela
Well, its official. Mike’s moving back to Canada. But I’m not going to miss that faggot.

Its an interesting story, actually.
A Junior girl named Katie came up to me the Friday before vacation. I had seen her before; long black hair, very pretty. But why would she be talking to a little Freshman?
“Hey, are you Angela?” she asked me. I said yes, then she asked me a few normal questions.
“You’re friends with Mike Baxter, right?” she was confused.
“Yeah… he’s my boyfriend.” when I said that, her eyes widened. Then she burst out laughing.
“Wait, you’re joking, right?” she didn’t seem to believe me at all.
“Uh, yeah. Why is that funny?”
“Oh my gosh, you’re serious. Oh my… no.” her smiled turned into anger quickly.
“Huh?” now I was the confused one.
“Wait, did you guys like, break up recently?” Katie asked, now looking like she was about to cry.
“No… we’re still together right now,” I said as if it was a question.
“THAT BASTARD! He was dating me the same time as you! We started going out three weeks ago! What the hell!” my heart dropped. Its beating drowned out the sound of Katie babbling on and on.
I didn’t even say a word. I just walked away. But I don’t think Katie noticed, she was still too busy rambling.
When I entered my room, I called Mike, but there was no answer. I left a very loud message on how I know about Katie, and we’re over. I screamed after I hung up the phone.
I got so mad, I couldn’t control myself. I threw my phone harder than I have ever thrown anything. It reached my mirror, and shattered a small section of it, along with the screen of my phone. It felt good to get all my anger out.

Just then, my phone rang. It was Mike. My heart pounded as I answered the phone.
“What was that message all about?” he asked, trying to act clueless.
“Don’t give me that crap. You know what it was about. I said we’re over. OVER.”
“Whatever, bitch. I’m moving back to Toronto anyways, I don’t need either of you. So go fuck yourself. Kay bye.” and with that, he hung up.
The phone was still up to my ear, I was stunned. That didn’t seem like Mike. Not at all.
I sat in my room that whole night and cried myself to sleep.

Yin-Yang
Mages in North America seem to have it all – typically from well-off families, and able to manipulate their environment in ways most of the world would never believe. They don’t even have to bother with the mundane details of life like housework, thanks to their sensitives, who also make a useful source for extra magical energy. After all, sensitives have no use for it themselves, and if mages weren’t meant to make use of it, then the sensitives would obviously have some way to prevent that. That a mage can transform a sensitive physically, with no restrictions beyond overall mass and basic biological viability, whereas magic tends not to work directly on any other living thing, is only further proof. And look at the way they live on their own, barely a step above animals. It’s better for them to belong to a mage. Sensitives in North America live on the edge of society and survival – typically so paranoid they avoid hospitals and anything else that could lead to being tracked, many of them with little or no education and no legal identity or existence. Mages exist, and mages want sensitives for some reason, but no one ever comes back to explain what that reason is. Waiting every day for the hunters to notice them doesn’t lead to much motivation or hope for the future. And once they’re captured, they’re the property of someone with a terrifying amount of power over them. Anything is better than capture. Mages are born to be the masters, and sensitives are born victims. Or are they? Jax’s life is turned upside-down when he’s caught by the hunters and sold to a mage. Andreas is still mourning for his previous sensitive, though, unconsciously creating a difficult standard for Jax to live up to, all the more so while still struggling to come to terms with this new reality as Andreas’ sensitive. A runaway sensitive isn’t what Van expects at the mental health centre. Is this a hunter trap, set for him and the rest of the Donovan family by the hunters? The hunters would, after all, love to see them cross the line openly and finally do something they can be charged with. Either way, Miranda’s genuinely in trouble, and he can’t just abandon her to it. Snatching a sensitive out from under the hunters and hiding her is odd behaviour for a mage – but then, Catherine is an odd mage, living in disgrace in the old servants’ quarters of her grandmother’s house, responsible for cooking and housework. Lila owes Catherine her freedom; is there a way to help Catherine achieve her own, and at what price? Tension is building between traditionally-minded mages and those advocating change, and something has to break. *** Yin-Yang includes a small amount of profanity and no graphic sex or on-screen physical violence. However, sex and gender roles and relationships within the mage/sensitive subculture are non-traditional in mainstream North American terms. The key criterion in a primary relationship is not relative sex or gender, but the pairing of mage and sensitive; given the transformation of sensitives by their mages, physical sex is non-absolute for a sensitive, and gender identity can vary as in anyone else. *** *** The way mages treat sensitives is extremely varied and, in some cases is outright abusive. The struggle against that is pretty much the point of the book. It is NOT grimdark or misery-porn! However, if you will be triggered by this, please, don't read Yin-Yang! *** Complete stand-alone novel, 153K words! Also available on Scribble Hub and as a free ebook.

The Crimson Castle
This is a LitRPG that follows Claire Woodward, A somewhat nerdy high school senior, who finds herself trapped in a video game, The Crimson Castle, she had just booted up for the first time. The Low Magic Fantasy World of The Crimson Castle is unlike any other. The world consists of only two things, the walled city of Dal and the wilderness that surrounds it. Each night, the wilderness outside of the city disappears and for five minutes the world trembles. Once the five minutes are up, the wilderness reappears, but it is always different from any previous' day wilderness. This means each day the city of Dal is surrounded by something new and exciting. Sometimes, the city of Dal finds itself on top of a snowy mountain, the next day in a foggy swamp, the next day after that on a tropical island, and so on. Inhabitants of Dal that go out into the wilderness are called adventurers. The further adventurers get from city of Dal, the rarer the loot they will find, but also the more treacherous their travels will become. Do not worry though, it is impossible to die in the wilderness. If your health reaches zero you will transported back to the city of Dal alive and well. Will Claire be able to figure out why she was transported into this world, and better yet, will she be able to escape it?
