Alexander
We had just gotten back to homeroom from lunch, which went pretty well. I walked into the cafeteria, and saw Liam, Sam, Erick, and a few other of my friends from seventh grade sitting at a table. It was nice seeing them all again.
"Hey Alex, did you hear that Angela's back?" Sam asked. No, no, no. Angela can't be back. No. This wasn't happening. My parents would freak out if they knew that I'd be going to the same school as the girl who got me expelled from HMS. It would be so awkward when we passed each other in the hallway. I can't fall for her again.
Wait. Was Sam even telling the truth?
"Are you serious?" I asked.
"Yeah, man, she's right over there." He pointed to a girl on the other side of the cafeteria. Sure enough, it was Angela.
"Oh my God."
After that scare, they herded us into our homerooms, where we stayed for the rest of the day. It was pretty boring, but at least I got to stare at Savannah the whole time. She's gorgeous. I don't even know her last name, but I already want to be more than friends with her. But I better act fast, because I bet a lot of guys are thinking the same thing as me right now.
When the bell rang, I knew this was the perfect chance. I walked over to Savannah and introduced myself.
"Hey," I said with a smile on my face.
"Hi..." I could tell she didn't want to talk to me.
"Are you Savannah?" I asked, obviously knowing the answer.
"Yep."
"Oh, well you look really pretty today." Right when I said that, she suddenly smiled.
"Thanks!" Girls love compliments.

I walked Savannah outside and talked to her until her ride came after school to pick her up. She hugged me goodbye, which I didn't complain about at all.
I saw Mackenzie walk out of the school, carrying an instrument inside of a case that was almost as big as she was. She looked at me, then looked away. Why did she look sad?
"Hey, Kenzie," I said, walking over to her.
"Hi" she said as I hugged her. I did miss her. She was a really good friend.
"I missed you... a lot." I said.
She chuckled. "Missed you too."
We talked until she said she had to go walk home. I probably should've started walking long ago, but whatever.

There was a time when heroes roamed between the Four Great Cities. They fought for kingdoms and princesses and they lived and died by their valour. Or so the stories say. The way the minstrels sing it, everyone had a swashbuckling good time. Nowadays, buckles are rarely swashed. All the great beasts have been slain, all the great treasures unearthed. Princesses are few and far between — the ones worth fighting over, anyway — and the kingdoms have been divvied up between the sons of sons of sons of the heroes of old. No valour required. Frankly, the hero business is in a sorry state. Luckily for Grin the Cheat, thieving and murder are thriving as usual. If you have a moment, please vote for this story at Top Web Fiction. Humanity ignored the warning and the world came crashing down in a wave of purple madness. Desmond Slattery was one of the few that survived the initial destruction of the apocalypse. He watched from safety as the population mutated and turned on each other. Peaceful animals also transformed into monsters with claws and blood covered fangs. The world became fantasy. But just as they caused death, the changes kept Desmond Slattery alive. Without them he would not have made it through his first civilization ending event. If he wanted to stay alive he was going to have to get stronger. He was going to have to level up, post-apocalyptic RPG style, and there are no extra lives.
