《(Discontinued) Unexpected (BoTW Link x reader)》Chapter 14

(Your POV)

It didn't take long at all for Link to drift to sleep. You, on the other hand, couldn't be more restless. Something about the vast emptiness of the desert that seemed to continue forever made you extremely uneasy. Maybe the fact that there was not a whole lot of shelter options, or possibly the sandstorm just to the north of you, blocking your vision? In the long run, it didn't matter much.

You glanced over at Link. Still sleeping. He has bruises and scratched scattered all over him. You never really noticed, but he tends to receive battle scars quite often. You then looked down at yourself, just a few marks here and there. Link was doing all the dirty work while you basically sat around on your ass, occasionally shooting an arrow or two. He was already putting his life at risk for you despite meeting you just a week or so ago.

Now when your gaze rested on Link, you didn't see just a goofy kid out on an adventure because he felt like doing so. You felt an eternity of sadness, now seeing him though a clear lens. He was, no, is, a warrior. A hero who has seen many battles. A fighter who has determination coursing through his bloodstream, who's courage sometimes gets in the way of logic. Deeper down, though, there is a young boy who is scared. Scared of the possibilities of the future, terrified of the looming responsibility that rests on his shoulders. Underneath all that immature mentality lies the determination of a soldier, but the fear of a child.

Maybe I got a little too deep there.

No stopping the thoughts now, though. Oh boy. Here come the tears.

Your vision becomes fuzzy with tears filling your eyes, all the while still facing Link. It wasn't fair. He shouldn't have to go through this bullshit.

That's when you decided that Link, the hero of Hyrule, shouldn't be forced to be a hero.

(Link's POV)

"Oof, I slept pretty good! Considering I'm sleeping on the ground, anyway." You sat up and stretched, then looked over towards (Y/N). Or, should you say, SHOULD be. She's not there.

"(Y/N)? Where you at?" You assumed she was off getting food for cooking or something. So, you rolled up your sleeping bag and threw on a thicker top. It was early morning, which meant it was suuuuper cold.

"Brrr... did she pack any extra clothing?" you questioned a rock, then turned for her bag... which wasn't there.

"Odd..." even when she's out for food, she leaves her bag. Wait. Wait. Hold up. Looking for food? In a DESERT? Dumbass! Panic kicked in and thoughts raced through your mind, all possible scenarios that could explain why she wasn't around. You quickly packed and began a desperate -and frankly hopeless- search for your dear friend.

You ran about aimlessly for a good ten minutes before spotting some boot tracks. It could have come from another traveler, but so far, it was your only lead. The tracks led to your previous destination spiking even more worry.

"Oh my goddess (Y/N), you didn't..."

Unfortunately, after about half an hour of following the tracks, your suspicions proved to be accurate. They led directly into the mouth of the Yiga Clan hideout.

"Goddammit!" You dropped your bag to make it easier to run, then broke into a sprint. Yiga members popped up here and there, but you ignored them, much to their dismay. There was a torch at the entrance of the hideout, used in at least the past 10 hours. You had no way of knowing how long ago (Y/N) came, or if she was even lingering around here. You rushed up the stairs, but was quickly forced into a squat. BIG Yiga member. Foot soldier? Ugh, doesn't matter.

You snuck around the burly man, only to be met with at least four more. Sighing, you advanced as quickly as possible to a destination unknown. After a fair amount of sneaking around and dropping bananas as a distraction, you reached an empty room with a door cracked open slightly. You trotted over to it, only to find it's way too heavy to be pushed. You studied the surroundings for any possible hints to open the door. A whole lot of nothing. There are a lot of buried chests lying around, though.

"Aw, what the hell. Might as well grab them while I'm here." Sighing, you pulled out your shieka slate and used your magnesis to tug the buried chests up. The chests glowed a bright pink, as per usual. They weren't the only ones glowing. The door was, too. Quickly grabbing the various treasures, you advanced through the door to a large empty area. You barely took a few steps before a slightly overweight man popped out of the air. He stretched and yawned before noticing you. Judging by his clothing, he was a Yiga member. The tight fabric was not necessarily flattering...

"Oh, not another one! Go away, she already took it," he said, crossing his arms. A bit confused, you turned to leave, but the man's voice rose an octave while shouting at you.

"STOP! Is that a SHEIKA SLATE? BAHAHA! You cannot fool me, 'hero of hyrule.'" He sat there, hovering in the air for a moment, expecting you to do something. When it was obvious you weren't going to move, he cleared his throat and began speaking once again.

"Ahem. I AM THE GREAT, THE BURLY, THE ONLY, MASTER KOHGA!" And with that, he summoned a great spiked ball.

"Dude, I'd love to fight you, really. But, you see, I'm in a bit of a rush, so I'll be taking my leave," you stated with a forced smile.

"HMPH! HOW DARE YOU RUN FROM A BATTLE WITH THE GREAT KOHGA! I wanted to show off..." he said, whispering the last bit. "This is not acceptable. STAY AND FIGHT, COWARD!" With a snap of his fingers, the exit/entrance slammed close, trapping you inside.
