《The First Champion | BOTW Link x GN!Reader》Flight Range

You wake up way too early the next day. It must be because you fell asleep earlier than normal.

Sleeping in is just a waste of time, no matter how tempting it is. The soft covers of the bed made you sleep very well last night. You feel energized and ready to get your day started.

You swing your legs off of the edge of your bed and tug on your Hylian boots and Champion hood.

You walk outside and hug your hood tight to your arms. The air was crisp and chilly this morning. You walk around Rito Village and look at the view around you. The mountains were caked in snow and reflect the bright sunlight.

You look down at your Hylian tunic dyed your favorite color. The design of the tunic is for practicality and combat. Since it was made in Hateno Village, it wasn't made to keep the cold out.

Point being, you need new clothes.

You walk higher and higher up the Village and find a clothing store where they sell a beautiful Snowquill set designed to keep warm in the coldest of nights. The problem is, there is only one of them.

"Excuse me," you say to the Rito at the front desk, "I traveled here with a friend and I'm interested in getting both of us this clothing set. Do you have another set in addition to this one for sale?"

"Not at the moment, but I can make one for you," she says sweetly. "If you could stand over here for me, I can get your measurements."

"Oh, thank you very much," you say and walk to the spot she pointed to. "How much will this cost?"

"It will be 2150 rupees," she says, looking for her tape measure.

You don't have enough by a long shot. "Could I maybe pay you later?" you ask nervously.

"Oh, yes you can. It will take me a few hours to sew up, so you can get your rupees together in that time."

"Okay, thank you very much," you repeat. You're going to need to buy the other one for Link as well since he spent all of his money on the Gerudo Voe set. You're going to need to collect and sell a heck ton of items. You think of all that is in your bag and what you can afford to loose while the Rito get's your measurements.

"You're all done!" she sings and rolls the tape measure up. "It should be done around noon. Come back soon!"

"Thank you," you say again and leave for the general store. You arrive and glance at the items for sale. They have cooking materials, arrows, mushrooms...

And a paraglider.

Your eyes light up when you see it. You've been needing one for the longest time. You walk up to the counter and practically yell, "how much for the paraglider?"

"A thousand two hundred," the Rito replied, startled.

"Dang it," you whisper, looking away. "Can you buy from me?"

"Uhm, yes. What would you like to sell?"

You reach into your pockets and in your bag and pull out everything you are willing to part with. You place on the table monster parts, flint, cooking materials, some skewers, and even some bugs, hoping it would be enough.

This only got you about 1500 rupees. You need more than double of that. You end up buying the paraglider before anything else. It wasn't essential, but it would be very nice to have so you won't have to rely on Link for the ability of air travel.

You take the glider to the edge of the railing and look out to Rito Stable. Just like how Link does it, you grip the handles of the glider and take a running start. You jump and your heart leaps with you.

It was the most wonderful, satisfying feeling. The rush of wind feels so nice in your hair and the weightless feeling in your feet feels so nice.

You land on the ground at your destination with a satisfying thump. You fold the paraglider as you smile in excitement. The purchase was definitely worth it.

Now, here's the boring part.

You then spend a couple hours gathering items to sell. These items consist of fish, wood, flowers, meat, whatever you can get your hands on.

When noon rolls around, you realize you are extremely hungry. It was stupid to not eat anything before going out on a scavenger hunt.

You walk back up the bridges and climb the slanted walkways of Rito Village. You head towards the kitchen that you passed a few times before. Maybe you'll be nice and make Link breakfast as a surprise.

But instead, you are the one that is surprised.

You see Link himself, subconsciously humming, and cooking vegetable omelets like he has made this recipe a hundred times before.

"Wow," you marvel and cause Link to look up at you. "I'm thoroughly impressed." You walk in and sit down across from him. "It looks like you've been practicing."

"I tried," he chuckles. He plates an omelet fresh from the heat and smiles a dorky grin at how yummy it looks. You can't help buy smile at his gesture, your eyes on him. "This is for you," he says and hands the plate to you.

"Thank you," you say and take some silverware.

You would be lying if you said this was a novice at work. It was very good.

You hum at the taste with Link watching you expectedly. "This is great."

"I tried," he says again modestly, though on the inside, he was thrilled at your enthusiasm. "Where did you go this morning?" Link asks you. You finish your bite before answering.

"I went to prepare for the next Divine Beast. We're going to need new clothes--" you remember your new gear and then give Link a grin. "And guess what I bought."

You reach behind you, under your hood, and unfold the paraglider with the Rito symbol woven into the fabric.

"Oh sweet!" Link exclaims, "Nice find! I didn't know they still made those."

"I know right? I've been wanting one for the longest time." You can't help but smile. "But, I still need about four thousand rupees."

"Four what?"

"New clothes."

"Oh right right, you mentioned that."

"Dishes are worth more than ingredients, so I'm just going to make a bunch of meals and sell them. It's easier than going out to try and find gemstones." You say and get out all the materials you gathered in your bag.

You take time making simmered fruit, salt-grilled meat, soups and stews, and anything else you can whip up. As you cook, Link observes and occasionally goes on his Sheikah Slate, swiping through pictures.

"Come on," you say and get on your knees. "Help me carry all these."

With the help of Link, you managed to carry all the dishes in one trip. You stand at the counter and sell the meals for a heaping price of 2600 rupees, and, along with the other materials collected, added on 630 more.

You give Link a grin and then dash out of the general store with the bag of rupees. You can hear Link calling for you to wait up.

You walk through the entrance of the clothing store and see the lovely Rito shopkeeper wrapping a scarf around the headstand displaying the newly made Snowquill set.

"Perfect timing!" she sings and motions her feather covered hands to reveal the clothing set. Your face lights up at the design.

"It's beautiful! Thank you!" you beam and walk closer to the stand to observe the details closer. You run your fingers across the soft fabric and notice the pattern was slightly different from the other one.

"It is lined with molted Rito feathers," the shopkeeper says, "designed perfectly for Hylians visiting cold climates. The feathers are stacked in each layer to retain body heat. It will keep you warm in the most extreme cold. Would you like to try it on before your purchase?"

"Yes please," you nod. The Rito begins stripping the mannequin of the clothes and hands them to you. You set down your equipment and pull off your top layers, exposing the tank top and shorts you woke up in inside the shrine of resurrection. You pull the layers one by one. As you fix the buttons on your coat, you turn around to Link and see him staring, admiring the clothes.

"Well come on then," you say and tug on the gloves. "The other one's yours. Go and try it on!" You then realize what you're saying and turn to the Rito. "Is it okay if he tries it on? He's my friend I mentioned that I'm buying the other one for."

"Of course, no problem," she says and briefly looks up from sewing another Snowquill set. You turn around to Link and nod towards the mannequin displaying the set. He gives in and walks over to try it on.

A few moments later, you successfully have the tunic and trousers on. "What do you think?" you ask the Rito. She looks up and smiles.

"You look wonderful!" she compliments and walks over to you. "Does it feel alright? Not too tight? Not too loose?"

"No it feels perfect!" you say, pleased.

"Wonderful. Are you paying for the headdress as well?" She asks.

"Oh, yes I am." You say and bend down to pick up the scarf and feather earpiece. You throw the small scarf over your head and try and figure out how to tie it. The Rito sees you struggling and walks over to help you. You hand her the feather earpiece and she puts it in place, bending the copper wire around your ear to help it stay on.

You look back at Link and see him staring at his headdress in confusion. "Let me help," you suggest and walk over to him. He hands you the ribbons and hair accessories. You take them and begin braiding the ribbons into his hair, a skill that you found yourself suddenly remembering.

"Do you know how to braid hair?" you ask him.

"Not really," he confesses, heart racing at the close proximity. He forces his parted lips shut and looks at the floor, temptations coming to mind.

You move to his other side and finish the look with the earpiece, same as yours.

"You two look adorable!" the Rito exclaims. You smile and look down, feeling embarrassed. "Are you on your honeymoon like the other couple I worked with?"

Your face turns red.

"Uhm," you clear your throat, "we aren't... we aren't to-- uh... together."

"Oh, my apologies for assuming," she laughs, sounding unconvinced. You don't dare look at Link.

"Uhm, here's the money," you hand her the rupees and walk out, still embarrassed.

Why does everyone have to think you're together?

You walk a little ways away from the stores and look out to the view, watching Vah Medoh circle the sky. At one point, you clear your throat and turn to Link.

"You ready?" you ask him. He nods, determined, reminding you why you're here. You lick your chapped lips and return the nod.

You then walk up the several flights of stairs while keeping a lookout for the leader of Rito Village. You come up to a room housing a Rito resembling an owl with a snow white beard. You approach him and see he is nearly napping.

"Ah, a visitor," he sleepily says. He opens his eyes slightly, "welcome to... oh, OH." He startles and leans forward in his chair. "That object on your hip-- and the swords upon your backs... Could it be?" You smile at Link. This reaction is a classic.

"Forgive me. Where are my manners? I am Kaneli, elder of the Rito. Now then, is that not a Sheikah Slate dangling from your hip?"

"That's right," Link nods.

"Oh my, so it is true! That means you must be a champion like Master Revali-- one of the few able to board Divine Beast Vah Medoh! No, what am I thinking..." he mutters under his breath. "The champions have all been dead for 100 years. These individuals must be descendents-- Ah, forgive me," he says, realizing you are still here. "Champion descendent, if you would listen to this old man's request, you would have my eternal gratitude."

"I'll listen," Link says.

"Thank you, truly," the elder laughs. "Now that I know you have the blood of a champion, there is something I must ask of you. How shall I put this... I would like you to deal with Divine Beast Vah Medoh. The giant beast circling around us. Only a chosen one, a Champion, can stop a Divine Beast. You must enter the beast and bend it to your will.

"I tried explaining this to the more headstrong Rito warriors," he continues, "but they wouldn't listen to reason. Teba and Harth tried to confront Medoh, but it did not go well, and Harth was injured. Teba escaped unscathed, but I now fear he plans to face Medoh alone. As a descendent of the Champions, perhaps you can help us."

"Where can we find him?" you step up and ask.

"His wife is in the room to the right of you. She can help you," he says. You look past Link and peer into the room next to the elder. You can see a pink Rito clearly listening into the conversation. You turn and walk towards the door. Before you leave, you give the elder a respectful nod.

Teba's wife seemed eager to talk to you. As you walked into the room, she was fidgety and appeared restless. "I overheard you speaking to the elder," she says. "It sounds like you intend to help my husband, Teba, in the fight against Medoh. But to tell the truth, there is not much I can do for you right now beyond telling you where my husband went."

"Where did he go?" you ask.

"Well, my husband headed to a place called the Flight Range. It is in Dronoc's Pass at the base of the Hebra Mountains. It's a place where Rito warriors prepare for aerial combat. I imagine he's gone there to gather weapons for another run at Medoh. If you take off from Revali's Landing, it is a straight shot down to the Flight Range. Revali's Landing is a memorial for the Rito Champion, Revali... So named in the hope that none might forget the events of that horrible day."

Link squints at the wooden platform with the Rito symbol painted on it. He then freezes up as he remembers the Champion. You bite your cheek, waiting for how he takes Revali's first impression.

Link gasps and alarms the Rito. "Descendent!" she exclaims. "Are you alright? My apologies... I fear I have said far too much. If there is anything you do not understand, please do not hesitate to ask."

Link slowly nods and then heads for the door. You follow him and look at him expectantly. "Wow what a... prick," Link says. You don't know whether or not to laugh.

"Who, Revali?"

"Yeah, what the hell. I kind of don't want to help him now."

You smile, but don't say too much. You'll wait until you remember him yourself.

You walk with Link to the landing and lean over the railing to look at the drop down. The height makes you sick, but at least you have a paraglider.

"You okay?" Link asks, unfolding his paraglider. You step back and swallow hard.

"Yeah, yeah I'm okay." You back up and unfold your own glider. When you jumped before, you were about two floors below the one you are on now. You stand on the edge of the landing and grip the handles. "Meet you there," you call behind you and take a running jump.

The fear you had left you as soon as your feet left the landing. The soaring feeling was so satisfying, it keeps you from thinking about falling.

You land on the ground with a soft thump and turn to see Link just behind you. He lands too and puts away his glider in a swift movement like he does this everyday. You start heading northwest toward the location described by Teba's wife.

The snow crunches under your boots like cornstarch, and the cold air bites at your face. You burry your cheeks in your small scarf for a temporary relief. You don't like the cold... at all.

Though, the change in scenery is beautiful. The white trees were coated in ice and the mountains were smothered in white snow. Everything was so bright.

Following the path, you then find a small structure by the edge of a cliff with strong updrafts. Finally, you made it to the flight range. Hopefully Teba has a fire going inside.

You race to the base of the ladder and climb eagerly to get warm. You sigh gratefully and sit next to the fire crackling in the center of the circular room.

You look up and see Teba fixing up a bow and facing the cliffs surrounding the flight range. Link walks in and doesn't seem to notice Teba's presence. Teba hears both of you and stops fiddling with the bow.

"Yeah?" he responds, seeming annoyed to have visitors. "I don't know you. And I'm actually pretty busy here. You should probably go."He turns back around and goes back to testing the bow. You step closer. "Did you need something? I just said I'm busy here."

"We can help you with Vah Medoh," you claim and suppress a shiver.

"Help me?" Teba scoffs and puts the bow down. "Let me get this straight. Some two random Hylians want to help me bring down the divine beast? I'm not buying it. What's your names, strangers?"

"I'm (Y/N), and this is Link," You nod your head towards Link, standing still by the warmth of the fire.

"(Y/N) and Link, huh? Well, I'm Teba. But you already knew that. I'm guessing that elder asked you to come here and talk some sense into me," Teba says.

"That's right," you confirm.

"Just like the elder to trust any fool wandering into town," he mutters. "Look, you seem like alright people, but let's make one thing clear: I'm not going anywhere. As a Rito warrior, I can't rest until my people are safe. There's only one way I'm going back to Rito Village: once Divine Beast Vah Medoh falls from the sky. If I have to kill Medoh, so be it. Only then will I return to the village."

"Then let's get started. Link and I have done this before. If there's anyone who can help you, it's us," you try and persuade him.

"Are you serious?" Teba laughs. "It's as the elder said: the only way to defeat the Divine Beast is from inside it. Fat chance of that happening. There's no way we can set foot in Medoh. Don't try and lie to me."

"Actually--"

"Listen kid," Teba sternly cut you off, "the only people able to enter the divine beasts are the six champions of old. And unfortunately for us and the rest of Hyrule, they all died a hundred years ago. Anyway, if we approach Medoh recklessly, its cannons will blast us out of the sky before we can even get close. So I'm going to need to test you two before I take you with me."

You shifted your weight to your other foot and listened closer. "We Rito warriors use the updraft in this ravine to hone our aerial archery skills. The updrafts are so strong here that a person could just open a cloth over their head and float up easily. Now let's see what you're capable of. You'll have to maneuver through the air and destroy five targets set up in this valley in three minutes. Five targets each."

"Got it," you nod.

"Then go destroy five targets with your arrows," Teba orders. You stare at him as you grab your bow and walk to the edge of the landing. Link stands next to you holding a Swallow bow he found on the table in the back of the building. You hand him some arrows and stare at your own bow.

It is a Golden Bow, crafted by the Gerudo. The string is bearing threads in several places, ready to snap in just a few more uses. You'll need a new bow soon.

You look up and sweep your hair out of your face. What's interesting is you are skilled with a bow, but paragliding is new for you. Link is a natural at gliding, but not quite as familiar with archery as you.

Teba stands and counts you down. You jump as soon as he yells for you to start.

You open your paraglider and get propelled upward by the draft. The air was so cold, you immediately regret your agreement to this. Link goes for the target just in front of the landing, so you go around. You have to get the timing right on this, or you'll fall to the icy waters below.
