《Breath of Life | LoZBoTW》Mistakes

For anyone, it's hard to apologize. Even when you truly mean it. It's the human way to have a hard time admitting mistakes. Especially when you harness the power of wisdom. It's hard to be wrong.

Link gently shook Emery awake, making her rise up and stretch her arms. Her bones popped as she finally moved. It was beginning to get late, and Link figured they should get going. Whether it be to the castle, Hateno Village, or somewhere else was up to Emery. She pulled her knees into her chest and rested her chin on them, looking out on the world. He only kept his eyes on her. The sparkle in her eye was one he recognized all too well. A craving to explore the beautiful earth. He just wanted to explore what went on in her lovely head. He wanted nothing more than to get to know her more.

"We should get going." He commented.

"Where to?" She asked. He shrugged in reply. "I'm sorry I slept for so long, you could've woke me."

"I didn't want to." He said. She gave him a small smile, giving him that feeling.

"I'm sorry for what I said to Pri-" She paused. "-Zelda earlier."

"It's okay, you were right." He replied. She nodded, silently thanking him for the support. The way she looked at it, they were suppose to support each other infinitely- whether right or wrong.

"I wish you'd woke me..." She mumbled. He gave her a confused look. "I didn't get to enjoy sitting here with you."

"It's no big deal, we can do it tomorrow." He replied, standing up. He stuck his hand out and she took it. He pulled her to her feet and together they walked off towards the castle.

It wasn't a long walk, but long enough. Thankfully, no threats encountered them along the way. It wasn't a secret both of them were worried about Zelda, but she requested their absence and so that's what they gave her. Now, they didn't even know if they were welcome to stay in the castle like she'd insisted beforehand. Though, when they arrived everything seemed to be fine. The royal guard was standing at every corner, making sure everyone was safe. People greeted them as they walked down the long path, leading to the big castle doors.

"Lady Emery and Master Link! I pray you two are safe in your following travels!" An elderly woman waved at them. Both of them smiled politely and nodded back. Emery stopped as she felt a small hand tug on the end of her long sleeve. Link placed a hand on her lower back out of habit. She looked down to see a small girl, her hair as bright as the sun. She was wearing a white dress, covered in the symbols of the royal family.

"Miss Emery, do you think you could teach me how to shoot a bow one day?" She asked with big, hopeful eyes.

"Of course." Emery smiled brightly at the small girl. Link could then see her desire for kids. Was that ever even an option for them? How could they have kids and grow old together, when their duty is constantly demanding them to do life-threatening things?

"Really? Thank you, thank you Miss Emery! You're the best! I want to be just like you!" She clapped her hands excitedly. She hugged Emery's leg quickly, then dashed off in the direction of her mom. Link watched as Emery waved to them gracefully. They continued on until they got to the castle, Link's hand still on her lower back.

"How've the two of you been?" One of the knights asked. The royal guard consisted of teenagers devoting their life, and older Hylian men who's fathers did this before.

"Good." Link nodded.

"Well, good luck with the Queen. I hear she's having one of her days." He replied and let the two of them in. Link nodded once again, and it was weird to Emery to see him so silent.

As soon as they stepped in, Zelda approached them. "I see you two are back in one piece."

They were silent as she stared at them. She let out a small sigh.

"I realize my actions this morning were unfair and rude, and I apologize. I mustn't take my frustrations out on the two of you even though at the time you seem like the cause. Both of you are important and have aided me in many demanding tasks. I'd be a fool for treating you terribly, so I am sorry." She said.

"We forgive you." Emery spoke for the two of them. Link just didn't know what to say to her. It was obvious she blamed Emery for him not loving her back, and that wasn't the case. He didn't want her to think that of Emery when she's done nothing.

Zelda's eyes met Link's. "I know you don't feel the same way as me, but neither of us are at fault for that. We simply cannot control the way we feel about others. Besides, you're different than when I first met you. You've changed indefinitely, but I think it's for the better. My love was mistaken on false pretenses of you just simply doing your job. I mustn't blame Emery for anything that's happened between us. I can pity myself all I want, but this is always what Goddess Hylia had in store. For the two of you were lovers before you were even born into this world."

"Zelda-"

"Say no more, Link. You mustn't blame yourself either, and you know this. I know you're terribly sorry, and we both are. Be happy with Emery. She's a prize, you know." Zelda smiled slightly, hoping Emery could forgive her outburst.

Link smiled brightly and nodded.

"You two have had a long day I presume, so get some rest. I have big plans for tomorrow." She said, and off they went to their room.

They placed their stuff down in the corner of the room, the Master Sword and the Bow of Light gracefully leaning against the walls. Zelda was supposedly having the guards build safe keeping for the two prized weapons when they weren't in use. Whenever they would get them was undetermined.

Emery pulled her pajamas on after a shower, climbing into the luxurious bed. Link followed suit, and they laid there next to each other. She rolled over and he eventually wrapped his arms around her from behind. "So, how do you feel about kids?"

"What?" Emery replied instantly, shocked at the blunt question.

"I just saw the way you felt about that little girl today. I feel the same way, I'd love to raise a kid with you and pass our knowledge down to them." He said.

"You would?" She asked hesitantly.

"Of course. Why would you question such a thing?" Confusion laced his voice.

"Well, I just still don't believe you're actually-"

"Emery, I know I haven't said it but I'm in love with you. I've never felt this way about anyone, and I've thought about it a lot today. I want to be with you forever, and if possible I'd like to grow old with you." He said, and even though those words made her heart thump she just couldn't believe it.

"How do you know that? What if it's just the Triforce?" She asked. "Without it, what if you didn't feel the same way? How do you know you truly feel this way and it's not just the power?"

"Because the power has nothing to do with it, Emery. It was all foretold and planned by Goddess Hylia." He assured her. That didn't calm her nerves any.

"How can you say that? We are only in love because we were foretold to be. Is it not willingly?" She asked him.

"It is willingly. I was in love with you before I knew about any of it, before the power was even evident in us." He frowned slightly at her.

"Okay." She mumbled. None of his responses were even solving her questions. The more he said, the more he proved her theory.

"Why don't you believe me?" He asked with surprise.

"Because people don't just love me, Link. I've been an orphan my whole life, I couldn't even impress Impa. No boy has ever showed a real interest in me before you. Sure, they see the hero but that doesn't count. No ones ever cared enough to listen to me or take care of me or even risk their life for me." She sighed.

"So? That doesn't mean anyone can't. Let yourself be loved. You're the only one stopping me." He said. She was silent. "I love you, Emery."

"I love you too."

"I want to have kids with you, I want a family, and I want to grow old with you. I just don't know if it's possible." He thought aloud.

"I don't either, but I feel the same way." She grabbed his hand in hers. Trying to take his advice and let him in. It was challenging and it surely hurt, but maybe she could do it. The Goddess Hylia meant for them to fall in love, so she couldn't lose him, could she? It was just the feeling of falseness that pervaded her.

"Maybe one day. For now, I'm content with us. With what we have. I enjoy protecting Zelda and the people of Hyrule. I wouldn't want to do it with anyone else by my side." He placed a wet kiss on her neck, sending chills down her spine.

"Why are you being so sweet all the sudden?" She asked.

"I don't know, I had a lot of time to think while sitting against that tree." He answered.

"And you were thinking about having kids with me, out of all things?" She replied. He nodded. "Why?"

"Because you're all I can think about. Your gorgeous image haunts my mind and I can't focus on anything else, especially when your darling figure is resting right next to me." He explained. She blushed profusely, and was thankful it was dark so that he couldn't see. He was being overly sweet, and she just didn't know why. The truth was, he was just madly in love with her. The fact that she couldn't understand his love showed how damaged she was. Though, it was no ones fault but the great evil that previously cursed this land. Having a hard upbringing promised for a life that wasn't free of these kinds of issues.
