《Breath of Life | LoZBoTW》Stitches

After regaining her composure, she finally stepped out of the bathroom. Link was lounging on the couch, reading one of his books. She tried to ignore his eyes as much as possible, but still she got in the occasional glance. It was hard to escape him, which is why she never could. As she saw him place his book down and sit up right on the couch, she rushed quicker up the stairs and to the bedroom. She shoved her armor quickly into her bag. She stood up from her stuff and came face to face with Link. She jumped backwards, letting out a sigh. "Why do you do that?"
"Do what?" He asked, visibly confused. She let out a groan.
"You're always around when I don't want you to be." She narrowed her eyes at him, shooting icy glares.
"Emery," He let out an agitated sigh, and she'd never heard him like that before. "I've been trying to talk to you ever since we were going to the Yiga Clan hideout.."
"And obviously," She swung around, their faces inches apart. "I don't want to talk about it. At least not to you."
As much as he wanted them to stay that close, he stepped back as she intimidated him in this moment. Why was she being so cold all the sudden? Just a second ago when he was carrying her inside, she was sweet. What had happened to make her change her attitude towards him? "Then who do you want to talk to?"
"Just don't worry about it, okay..." She muttered, pulling the cover back on the bed. As she did, he couldn't help but see the corner of her shirt lift a bit. His eyes widened as he saw a literal open wound. He couldn't help himself as he rushed over and pulled her shirt up more to reveal just how large it was. She jumped back, slapping his hand away. "What are you doing?!"
"You're really hurt." He stated the obvious. She rolled her eyes at him.
"I said don't worry about it, you hear me? Do you get it? I don't need your help." She gave him an ice cold look. Right now, he didn't care what she wanted.
"Let me see it." He demanded. She shook her head 'no'.
"Who do you think you are?" She growled. "Leave me alone."
"No. You have to stop this. You're not going to be able to save anyone if you won't treat your wounds properly." He said. Now he was being harsh, and she'd never seen soft Link act this way. She bit her lip, which made him fluster up.
"Well, what are you going to do about it if I don't? Nothing. You can't do anything." She turned around from him again, ignoring him now and continuing to fix the bed the way she wanted it. He marched off, grabbing a kit that he's had since before he can remember. He didn't know where he'd gotten it, but he knew exactly what it was used for and how to use it. He approached her again. She let out another groan. "What's with you?!"
"You have to let me sew them shut." He said. Her eyes widened.
"No." She said instantly.
"Yes, Emery. I won't take you with me to Goron City tomorrow if you won't let yourself heal properly. It'll hurt, but you need to do this." He said, hoping that convinced her to let him. He didn't want to do this to her because he knew how bad it hurts, but he couldn't just let her have open wounds. She looked at him a moment and sighed in defeat.

"It's going to hurt really bad, isn't it?" She frowned. He nodded. "There's two on my back, and one on my stomach."
"Why didn't you say something, Emery..." He sighed, giving her a sad look.
"Because it doesn't matter to me." She shrugged. He still gave her a look of pity, and she hated it. She would always be downgraded by Link. The same boy who happened to be the most attractive one she'd ever met.
"It should matter. Your health should matter." He scolded her.
"Says you, hero." She spat. "You're the one who aimlessly throws yourself into battle, whether it's putting your life in danger or not. Yet, that's just what you do. And that's what I do, too."
"I still take care of myself though, so I can participate in more battles so I can save this land. Which is exactly how you should be too." He narrowed his eyes at her. It was obvious he was angry about her being hurt and not taking care of herself, but why? Why did it matter so much to him?
"I'm not Princess Zelda." She said in a low voice. "I can take care of myself, you're not my appointed knight." He'd be the one needing stitches after that one.
"Until you prove you actually can take care of yourself, then I am your appointed knight." He declared. She gave a look of disbelief, surprised that he actually said that. "Now, let me stitch your wounds."
She let out a long, shaky sigh. She had been stalling long enough. He was right, no matter how much she didn't want to admit it. If she wanted to be in the best shape for battling, he had to do this. No matter how bad it hurts. Remember, she thought to herself, you're still alive, which is more than the others have. Link watched as she began to pull her shirt off. His face turned a bright red again. He stared at her body, until she cleared her throat. "Are you going to sew them up or what?"
He nodded and walked over to her. He started with her stomach first. It wasn't as bad as the two on her back. She sat against a pillow and watched him sew the stitches. This way she'd know how to for next time. It hurt pretty bad. At one point, she found her hand latching onto his leg as she squeezed it. She gnashed her teeth together to keep from crying out in pain. She leaned back and stared up at the ceiling. She hated this so much, but she powered through it.
She stopped him before he started on her back. "Will you talk to me while you do this?" She asked. Her request took him by surprise. She'd been so cold, he didn't think she'd want to listen to him talk. Really, he didn't think anyone did.
"If that's what you want." He said. She nodded, and laid down on her stomach. "What am I suppose to talk about?"
"Anything."
Anything? That was a challenge for Link. He didn't have much to talk about usually. He panicked, as he didn't know what to say.
"Well?" She questioned, her voice muffled slightly by the pillow she was laying against. When he said nothing, she sighed. "If I ask you questions, will you answer them?"
"Depends, but I guess." He shrugged, but she didn't see.
"Very well, then. Do you really not remember anything from before?" She asked. He narrowed his eyes at her and cursed her for asking such a personal question. Still, he felt obligated to answer seeing as he was putting her through so much pain.

"For the most part, I do not. Things are blurry, yet I know what they are. Like earlier, when Riju was talking about the Thunder Helm. I knew that name indefinitely, but it was blurry. I didn't know but I did. I don't know how to explain it." He already felt he was talking too much.
"I understand." Her voice was small. He watched as her fingertips dug into the bed. He knew he must keep talking.
"I remembered Mipha after looking at that statue and after seeing the Thunder Helm I remembered Urbosa. It made the battles all much more satisfying, knowing I saved my friends. Their words also made me feel good." He said. He looked up at her for some kind of signal to go on. Did she want to hear more?
"Me too." She breathed out, and he assumed he was meant to keep talking. Did she really want to talk to him, or was he just being used as a distraction?
"I still don't remember the other two.. Do you know their names? I don't recall." He mumbled, thinking to himself. He got so frustrated when he couldn't remember. He knew them, but he couldn't get to them. It was blurry.
"Revali and Daruk." She said. He nodded.
"That's it. I don't remember them. Daruk was.. a Goron right?" He asked.
"That's right." She confirmed. "Are you almost done?"
"I'm moving onto the second one now." He replied.
"Do you remember Princess Zelda?" She asked. In reality, she just wanted to know if the two were in love. If he remembered her, that meant he could answer that question. Then again, how would she ask a question like that. Why did she even care?
"I remember bits and pieces about her. You're actually a bit like her." He chuckled quietly. "She got frustrated with herself a lot, too."
"How did you know-"
"By the way you act. It's something I'm all-too-use to, something I've seen a lot." He answered her question before she even asked. She was silent now and he finished up. He helped her sit up, and she wanted to feel his warmth on her forever.
"When do you think they'll be done healing?" She asked.
"A couple days, but for that pretty bad one, maybe more." He said. She nodded. He stood up to return the kit to his bag, but she grabbed his wrist to stop him.
"Thank you." She muttered out. A bright smile formed on his lips and he gave her a simple nod before walking downstairs. She knew it would hurt too much to put her t-shirt back on so she opted to leave it off. Even if that did make her feel more exposed than she wanted.
She walked downstairs to see Link curled up on the couch. "What are you doing?" She asked, her eyebrows kitting together in confusion.
"I'm going to sleep..?" He replied, equally as confused.
"Why on the couch?" She asked.
"Because you're taking the bed." He stated obviously.
"I thought we could, uh, share." She said quietly.
"Are you sure?" He asked. She nodded. "If you insist."
He followed her back upstairs where they chose their sides of the bed. She laid on her side, as it hurt to lay on her back of her front. Link laid flat on his back, staring up at the ceiling. His blue eyes glowed even in the darkness. She faced him on her side. He glanced over at her, and she noticed. "Were you in love with Zelda?" She accidentally blurted out, and now she was angry with herself. Why'd she have to say something like that?"
"What?" Her question caught him by surprise. "Why do you want to know?"
"I was just wondering what this mission was really all about to you." She shrugged.
"From what I can remember, I wasn't. It doesn't mean that's true or not." He replied. She frowned. "I still don't understand why-"
"Just forget I asked." She said.
"You know," He began. "It's my turn to ask you questions. I answered yours truthfully, so you have to answer mine that way too."
"Fine." She took on the challenge. "Shoot."
"What was wrong with you before that you wouldn't tell me?" He asked. She let out an agitated sigh.
"Why do you want to know so bad?" She demanded.
"I'm asking the questions." He replied, and she rolled her eyes. He couldn't see.
"I'm mad that no one will ever address me the way they do you." She said. He was silent for a minute.
"What do you mean?"
"You're that oblivious, aren't you? People praise you, Link. You're the hero, the Champion. Whatever else. I'm just some girl behind you they don't even acknowledge because you're you." She complained. She instantly felt selfish. "I'm sorry, forget I said anything."
"Emery," He turned to face her on his side too. "I'm not going to forget anything you say."
She stared at him, his face just so kissable, right in front of her..
"You don't need people's approval to know you're a Champion. That's why I never pay any attention to it. It's not about that." He explained.
"I know it's not, but it just sucks to constantly be in your shadow. Do you understand where I'm coming from?" She pleaded. He nodded, which she could make out after her eyes had adjusted to the darkness.
"How come you won't tell me stuff?" He asked now.
She was silent for a minute. "I don't waste my breath, because chances are you don't actually care."
"I wouldn't waste my own breath if I didn't care." He retorted. She came to an understanding of him now. She was lucky to be able to talk to him this way, but she would never know that.
"So, what do you want to hear then?" She asked. He smiled brightly back at her.
"What was your childhood like?" He asked. He watched as her face fell. He had completely forgetting how awful it was. Nevertheless, she filled him in on the information he already learned from the King of the Zora's. "That must've been awful. I'm so sorry, Emery."
"It's okay." She said quietly. "It does suck. More than anything. Do you understand why it's so important for me to beat Calamity Ganon, now?"
"I do." He nodded to her. "We're going to get him, you know that right?"
"I don't have a doubt about it." She smiled at him. He returned one. It was in that moment of silence they locked eyes. Each of them unknowingly shifted closer, until Emery tossed over her side, even if it did hurt. Kissing Link? What was she thinking? "Goodnight, Link."
"G-goodnight." He stuttered. He had just completely gotten rejected. He wasn't meaning to make a move like that in that moment, but there was no doubt it was happening. She pulled away from him.
Now, as she laid in a cold bed, she wished nothing more than he would put his arm around her. Although, she was the one who just pulled away from him. This was her fault. She craved the feeling of his warmth, his gentleness, his soft feeling. What was it she was feeling towards him? Her heart leaped at the sight of him and thought of him touching her. He was the most sincere person she'd ever met. He cared about her, and she never met someone who seemed this interested in her. She just wanted him to put his arm around her, like before. After laying there for a while, she gained the courage to do something...
"Link?" She questioned.
"Yeah?" He replied surprisingly. She inhaled sharply.
"Willyouholdme?" She rushed out quickly. She grimaced at her own idiocy. She couldn't believe she just said that, and like that. She heard a small chuckle escape his lips, and she wondered what could possibly be so funny to him.
"I'd be honored," He replied, and snaked his arm around her waist. She pressed her body against his, and they laid there like that. The warmth that radiated off his body was like nothing she'd ever felt. It was heaven, and it made her melt away a little bit every second his fingers danced along her waistline.
