《Devil May Love | Niklaus Mikaelson》Chapter Twenty Five: Enamored

Dearest Evangeline,

When we first crossed paths, I knew you were the beginning of something powerful. You are a mix of everything great in the world: the vulnerability of a human, immortality of the vampire, and the durability of the dragon. There is no other being like you and with a heart like yours; you will make a great impact in this world...

At first I believed that you and I could conquer together when we became the best of friends along with Anastasia. We saw things in nearly the same light and it just blossomed from there. Lina, I believe that you are unaware of how powerful you are and how much more power that you will hinder in the future. I have watched you blossom from the vampire in the vulnerable state that I met two centuries ago to the extravagant hybrid goddess that you are morphing into every second of every day.

Unfortunately, my theory of you and I conquering the world together needs to be amended. I have realized that perhaps, I saw you forging the destiny of the world with the wrong Mikaelson. My brother has never been so...authentic, per-say until he was around you. Before the two of you came across each other, he killed, maimed, and tortured because he could. He believed that he needed that upper hand over every other being in the world but then he met you and that part of him began slipping away...

No, he does not use his power for the good of the world but rather, he uses it for you, dearest Lina. You are my brother's Angel sent from the other side and do not let him fool you into believing that he has not realized that yet because he has. The two of you are a force to be reckoned with and when the ritual is complete...you will change the course of the supernatural world. It will be stupendous on an astronomical level, the power that the two of you will share.

You will be crowned the King and Queen.

Thank you, Lina, for being my brother's miracle. Please do not go wry during my absence as I find a miracle of my own.

Elijah

Evangeline lost count of how many times she read Elijah's aforementioned letter. The kind words brought her to tears with every time she read them, even when she had reread the letter so much that she could recite it, it still brought her to tears all the same. She wished that she could find Elijah and hug him to death for his kind, empowering words but she knew he needed to cleanse himself of the dark thoughts he had been feeling and essentially find himself again.

The letter had been on the bed with her name written on it with Elijah's calligraphy when she and Niklaus arrived to the room. Her mate decided it was the best time for him to take his shower so that she could read the letter in peace, without distractions. She was ultimately grateful for that because she didn't want Niklaus to see her blubbering about a letter she got from his brother, it would embarrass her.

So, when the blonde hybrid emerged from the bathroom, Evangeline wiped her tears off of her face and attempted to cool herself down emotionally so that she could follow up with a physical cool down, even if she knew Niklaus felt the emotional turmoil she had gone through.

Without speaking about the letter, Niklaus dropped his towel (purposely after he knew he had her attention) and pulled on the dark blue boxer briefs he'd left on the dresser for after the shower. Evangeline rolled her eyes at her mates purposeful teasing.

"That was hardly necessary, Nik" she said, standing up to grab her clothes for her own shower.

Her mate grinned, "Well since you didn't join me in the shower, I thought I'd fill you in on what you missed out on"

"Sure fill me in...whatever you say, all that can wait because I need a long bath after a day like today" The Salvatore hybrid said, pecking the man on the lips a couple times before dragging herself towards the bathroom with Elijah's letter in hand because, yes, she planned on reading it and crying a bit more.

Niklaus spotted the letter in his mate's hand and couldn't help but to itch with curiosity in regards of what his brother wrote her. Elijah was quite the poet and had a way with words but he knew he would not try any funny business with Evangeline. He, after all, was the one to open Niklaus's eyes in relation to the mating and the bond anyway.

The hybrid man was procrastinating going to bed because the last thing he wanted was to go to bed alone, even if he knew his mate would be joining him soon after. After the day they dealt with, he just wanted to grab the woman into his embrace and never left her go, which was a new feeling for the blonde. He was used to being in his own company and rarely ever craved affection from another; yet, his Dear Angel was all he could think of. He was consumed by her because she brought a light into his life that he had not been given and a very long while.

She had a pride in him like no other. She did not push for him to change and become some good man that he "could have always been" but she just wanted him to better himself. She believed that he was unhappy and he had the power to change that. His mate did not expect him to change the world and do good deeds to make up for all of the bad but rather, make a few changes in his life that could benefit him. Evangeline believed in him so much that he believed in himself too. He was more than the Big Bad Wolf when she looked at him. Through her eyes, he was just like the rest, still learning and understanding himself...still having a chance to be whoever he wanted to be.

Klaus spent nearly a thousand years believing that he had dug his grave and he had to prepare it in the best way possible so that he could lay in it. He did not believe that he could start anew. Living for one thousand years with the same routine, that was his life. Yet, meeting Evangeline, she made him believe that he could change that routine no matter how long he had been living it. He did not have to be the antagonist nor the protagonist; he could be whoever he wanted to be. He had enough power to do so.

If he wanted to go back to Paris, he very well could, if he wanted to go Down Under, why not?

People may have had a preconceived notion of who he was but that could change after another thousand years and as far as he was aware, he would be around for that long either way. He did not have to carry on with the same life for ten or twenty or thirty more decades. He still had a chance for change, thanks to his mate.

And speaking of the goddess he had been prophesized to be with, she emerged from the bathroom with a trail of steam behind her and a content look on her face. Her hair fell down in wet brown curls and she wore nothing but one of his shirts and underwear but she was absolutely stunning to him. She looked like his Angel and she was.

The wolf smirked, "You said something about filling you...I think we should revisit that"

His dragon laughed at his perverse comment, "And what? Make our showers pointless, wasting water is looked down upon"

In a blink, he was standing before her, still smirking, "Excuses, excuses"

She smiled, wrapping her arms around his neck. Then, she took one breath and kissed him and when she did, she didn't feel butterflies. No, when she kissed Niklaus Mikaelson she felt wildfires igniting and they grew and grew until they came to the surface of her skin and tinged his. And with each sizzle of his skin, their passion grew and their bond thickened and they slowly fell into a routine that was purely them.

Evangeline Salvatore and Niklaus Mikaelson. The conventional pair made by the Witches only for them to regret it later. Individually, they were great, together; they had no idea what they could accomplish. They shook fear into all but the few that they actually brought hope to.

The next morning, there was something pulsating between them. Their power was growing and while it was beautiful, something needed to be done about it before it spun out of control. They needed Anastasia White, who conveniently called that morning not long after they awoke.

Upon hearing the sound of her phone ringing, Evangeline sighed. She wondered if she had the willpower to lift her head from Niklaus's chest and actually answer. Before she could make a decision, Niklaus stirred from his sleep answering it for himself.

"Anastasia, love, Evangeline can't come outside to play today, try again tomorrow"

Evangeline snorted in laughter at her mate while her best witch friend laughed dryly.

"Very funny Klaus, put the phone on speaker, it's important and concerns you both"

The hybrid reluctantly did so and informed the witch that he followed her instruction, though he did not want to.

"The next full moon is in three weeks" The White witch began, "And I fully intend for that to be the time that the ritual in complete. Time is dwindling down and there can no longer be any more procrastination. Especially for you, Lina, your power is growing and it needs to be neutralized with the ritual"

Normally, a chill would have ran down Evangeline's spine at Anastasia's words but, since the last time she was reminded that she would die from her unus abilities being unleashed, she had actually died twice. Truthfully, she was no longer afraid of death but afraid of losing everything she had while being alive: Anastasia, Elijah, Rebekah, Klaus...even her brothers. She could not leave them all behind even if it was not willingly.

"Okay" Evan said, finally speaking up, "How will we get Elena on board by then?"

"That might be easier than you think" Anastasia informed, surprising the pair.

Klaus decided that was his time to butt in, "And why is that?"

"Because she feels guilty" Anastasia explained vaguely.

"Guilty for what?" The hybrids questioned simultaneously.

"She knew that Esther was and still is planning to kill you Lina, but she has not told your brothers"

"Wow" Evangeline muttered, "It's not like they would care..."

Anastasia rolled her eyes at her best friend's optimism, "Of course they'll care, they're your brothers no matter if they claim to disown you"

"Right" The brunette muttered, "Anyway, I'm sure you're expecting me to talk to Elena then because Klaus isn't really fit for the job?"

The blonde hybrid raised his eyebrow at the slight jab at him but he didn't say anything because he agreed.

"Pretty much" Anastasia said, "Just be gentle with her, tell her about the romantic and girly side of it, remember that she's just a teenage girl and a hopeless romantic."

Evangeline didn't know if she wanted to gag or laugh, "What? You want me to tell her about my epic love story or something?"

"Kind of" Anastasia said sheepishly, "You need this Evangeline and she doesn't actually hate you, she just hates that you're meant to be with Klaus"

The blonde man raised his eyebrow once more, "You all make it seem like a bad thing"

Evangeline shrugged, "You're like...the devil to them Nik"

The hybrid man looked all too satisfied with the comparison, "Ah, well, the devil may love Dear Angel"

And in that moment, as she smiled, Evangeline truly felt like she was in the midst of her own epic love story and she thought back to Elijah's letter.

You will be crowned King and Queen.

She looked up at Klaus who was speaking to Anastasia about who knew what and tried to picture him as her king. The powerful man who was her everything. The one she ruled the world with. It sounded amazing and extraordinary but almost unattainable. What kingdom was it that Elijah even spoke of? The supernatural world? Vampires? Werewolves? Unus? Hybrids? Who knew.

As Klaus hung up the phone, Evangeline came back from her thoughts once more as he pulled her into his lap. He did that thing that he always did, holding her chin and looking into her eyes. Evangeline loved it by then and could actually smile at the time when he first had done it, when her eyes first showed their true color.

He studied her eyes as if they were her favorite subject. His blonde eyes furrowed and his lips were gently pursed and his ice blue eyes were calculating. He could never truly understand her but he knew having her with him took the pressure away from his lungs. His need to be superior came second with her around and her feeling of inferiority dissipated when he looked at her like that.

Pale green jewels, alive, speckled with gold with black pupils and a fire beneath them. They were Niklaus's favorite shade he realized, purely a tint belonging to his hybrid goddess. They held so much emotion, even when they were void of it. He'd seen them shimmer, he'd seen them go completely pale where they almost lost the green and went to amber. He saw them mid-transition swirling with red and orange...she was stunning.

Ice blue marbles, strict, sprinkled with a silver storm with black pupils that hid yellow moons that glowed and black veins. Evangeline could look at them for hours and always feel different emotions. She'd never seen the shade until she met Niklaus and she swore that some days they showed molten silver rather than the pure blue they naturally were. That were his soul, compacted and shining...he was beautiful.

Klaus let go of her chin and she laid her head on his shoulder as he encompassed her into his body with his bare arms.

"Do you think it'll work, Nik? Telling Elena my side of it...making it seem like an epic love story?" Evangeline questioned, speaking against the crook of his neck, forcing him to keep his composure.

"I'm sure, love" Klaus said lifting an arm and twirl one of her curls around his finger, "As long as you believe it is an epic love story...it could be..."

Klaus trailed off and Evangeline went silent, a million thoughts ran through her mind as she laid in the arms of her mate. Yes, she and Nik had an epic story but it was no romance, at least, it didn't start off that way.

"Do you?" Klaus found himself asking. He felt as though his resolve depended on her answer. His wolf knew that he could get rejected by her, even after everything they had gone through and the obstacles they made it past. And rejection was going to hurt like a bitch, even for him.

The Salvatore's heart skipped a beat as she sat up and looked at him and his vulnerable eyes, "Do you?"

It was childish, repeating his question but she did not want to bare her heart to someone who could brush it off as easy as dirt. Evangeline knew that her inner dragon would be struck with rejection from a mate. They were largely passionate creatures and if the passion was not returned, it hurt like hell.

The hybrid smiled at his mate, "That was quite the juvenile move to make, love, but quite possibly why I'm in love with you"

Hearing that was bigger than fireworks. Hearing Niklaus say he was in love with her was a high that no drug could supply. She felt like she had been reborn and knew exactly why she was placed on the earth. Everything felt worth fighting for and her lungs were no longer on the brink of being full of polluted air.

Evangeline wanted to scream, cry, and kiss him all at once. Her skin was completely ignited at his words. The abrupt heat actually surprised the male hybrid who visibly winced at the familiar burning of his flesh but he pulled her closer because, well, love is pain.

"I love you too Nik" Evangeline said feeling the water filling her tear ducts the longer she looked at him and recognized the love in his eyes, "So much that it's frightening"

Her eyes were in the beautiful swirl that he loved and his eyes were blue-yellow, nearly green, a new shade. Evangeline put her hand on her mate's bare chest and nearly sobbed. She felt it, it was small and quite possibly her imagination but it was steady and it made her have a completely new hope for everything.

She spoke nothing of what she felt but she pulled him close into her embrace. She was in love and she was enormously scared of it but she was also exuberant because he loved her too and they could go places. They could mean something and change everything. She had a reason for living after almost one hundred years of just existing. At first she thought it was solely her family but then she met Klaus, her devil in disguise. The Big Bad Wolf with blue eyes.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ah, they finally said it ^_^ thank goodness, I was getting fed up.
Anyway, I have a strong feeling that there isn't going to be many chapters left because it's getting to the point where I imagined the ending could be. I mean duh, the devil is finally loving so the title is starting to make sense. There are a few things I'd like to address though:
1) tHERE WILL BE NO HAYLEY AND BABY--like no, I'm not ruining my OTP no matter how much I love Hope.
2) As of right now there will be no sequel because I usually hate sequels and I graduate in two months so my time is going to be occupied with nothing but college and stuff like that.
3) Evangeline will not be getting pregnant, her whole anatomy is so complicated that their baby would probably end up being a demon or something.
4) Yes, my updating sucks but it's chapter 25 guys, you should know that by now. Partially the reason why it sucks aside from school is because I watch the episodes that coincide with the chapters so I don't miss any detail. I don't have a TV or cable, just internet (not even Netflix) and it's a pain in the ass to do but I do it anyway because I love this book and everyone who reads it.
5) This chapter is unedited and it's 2AM so some stuff won't make sense probably but I will be going back and editing it because I'm OCD about errors in my chapters.
6) The last chapter will have multiple parts and I believe there are less than five chapters left in this book.
