《Devil May Love | Niklaus Mikaelson》Chapter Twenty-Four: Obstruct Love

Niklaus and Kol Mikaelson bickered most of the evening that they decided to go out for drinks. Moments like those were when Evangeline began to wonder when the hell Anastasia was going to get off of her boat and keep her company. She joined in on the pointless bickering for a bit, purposely siding with Kol to make Niklaus jealous or siding with Niklaus so that Kol could accuse her of being biased but began to tire of it so she placed bets with the nice gentlemen beside her on how many times they could argue in an hour. The hybrid woman got three free drinks by the time they were interrupted by the presence of Alaric.

He didn't notice them at first; he was too busy speaking to some woman—Meredith Fell. They were flirting so Evangeline assumed it was his girlfriend or something of the sort. It wasn't long before Niklaus made their presence known, of course, because he just couldn't help himself. He loved the look that came across the human History teacher's face when he saw two hybrids and an Original vampire at his local bar.

"Don't mind us" The Original Hybrid said, "My brother, My Angel, and I are just here to let off some steam, right Kol...love?"

Evangeline's heart skipped at beat at her mate's possessive words used in public but she couldn't help but slightly resent them. Alaric gave her a look of betrayal as if they personally knew each other, even though they barely ever spoke before everything went insane with Niklaus. The part that made Evangeline uneasy was knowing that Alaric would tell her brothers of Niklaus's open claim on their sister.

"Right" Kol said, raising his glass and taking a gulp of his beverage before looking at the only Salvatore in the group.

Annoyed with the attention, Evangeline replied shortly, "Of course"

The men nodded and Alaric looked away uneasily, going back to his conversation with Meredith.

Niklaus slipped his arm around the waist of his mate and took the drink out of her hand while looking at her with concern. He knew she wasn't ready to see her brothers again and seeing the schoolteacher did nothing but remind her of their apparent hatred of her but he didn't want her to leave her alone at the mansion or even worse, with Rebekah to plot revenge.

As much as he didn't want to admit it, the mating bond made Klaus grow very attached to the woman at his side. He needed her by his side because she made him feel powerful and purposeful. He hoped he did the same for her. Sure, they had a rough start with unneeded bloodshed but Klaus liked to believe they were past that.

"We can leave, love" He said to her, looking at her gently as she stared down at the empty glass before her.

Evan looked over at her concerned mate and sighed shaking her head, "I'm fine, the last thing I want is to go back to that mansion—no offense but it suffocates me"

"Amen" Kol said behind the two hybrids but they chose to ignore him as usual.

The blonde smiled at his girl and kissed her forehead, "We can go someplace that we know your brothers won't happen to show up in, then"

Evan almost agreed but then she shook her head, "Really, it's okay Nik, I'll live if they show up. They've already made their opinions very clear so I know what to expect"

Klaus nodded but took his mate's hand anyway, "Come on, I know something that'll cheer you up"

Evangeline raised an eyebrow at his suggestion but allowed him to bring her out of the barstool. She knew what he was getting at due to their activities earlier in the day and could feel her skin already heating up at the thought of what he believed would make her 'cheer up'.

"Bloody animals" Kol grumbled into his drink as he was left alone by the two mates.

Meanwhile, Niklaus brought Evangeline outside to the parking lot. He wrapped his arm around her waist and kissed her head, walking her down the rows of cars before he stopped in front of a white Kia and grinned at her pointing at the specific parking spot.

"There" He said tightening his grip on her waist, "That right there is where I first saw you months ago. I remember making you blush and making your little heartbeat go insane"

Evangeline laughed at that, "Yeah and you kept trying to charm me but you were so surprised I was a Salvatore"

"And you said Klaus reminded you of what...a Russian mobster?" The Original hybrid barked in laughter, "What an American thing to say"

The female hybrid joined in on the laughter and shook her head, "You and your family are basically a supernatural mafia so I wasn't too far off"

Niklaus smiled down at Evangeline and lifted her chin before kissing her lips gently, adding a new memory to the place of their first encounter. The Salvatore woman smiled into the kiss and wrapped her arms around his neck, deepening it for a few moments before they pulled away and just held each other in a loving embrace.

Oh, how they wished it could just be simply the two of them, figuring out who they were to each other and trying to make the best of their prophesized bond.

Niklaus pulled away slightly, with heavy deep blue eyes, "Dear Angel, I believe that I am fall—"

But of course, it could never be that simple. Before the hybrid could finish his sentence, he felt an immense pain in his chest. It was as though he had been stabbed and he knew something had gone wrong.

"What's wrong?" Evangeline questioned, feeling the Mikaelson's worry.

As if it had just dawned on him, her mate spoke one word, "Kol" and then he sped off, leaving a confused unus hybrid at his wake.

Before Evangeline could speed off, following his scent, her phone rang. The caramel woman pulled her phone out of the pocket of her jacket and sighed in relief at the name on the screen before answering.

"Anastasia" She breathed feeling the stress washing back over her at the thought of something happening to Kol and knowing it most likely involved her brothers.

"That was some kiss"

Evangeline spun around and nearly cried at the sight of her long time friend standing with a phone in her hand and a smirk on her lips. The hybrid woman sped over and pulled the woman into a much needed hug. She felt tears arising but she held back remembering that the Mikaelsons were in trouble.

"Something's wrong" Evangeline urged pulling away from the hug with her best friend.

Anastasia sighed, "I know, follow his scent"

Evangeline nodded, knowing exactly where her mate was once she concentrated and sped the two away to the alley beside the Mystic Grill. As soon as they stopped, she smelled blood and her stomach dropped but once she found her mate, he was unharmed. It was Kol with the blood stain on his shirt.

Evangeline and Anastasia happened to land in front of Damon who had his back turned towards them and was facing a pissed off Niklaus.

"What did you say about my mother?" Klaus growled stalking towards the Salvatore vampire.

Unafraid, Damon continued on, "You didn't know I was friends with your mummy? Yeah, we have a lot in common: she hates you as much as I do"

Klaus growled, ready to attack and before Evan could say anything, Elijah appeared and took the job, "Leave him!"

Her mate paused and she saw him subtly roll his eyes at his brother saving, yet again, another life.

"We still need him Niklaus" Elijah said from the staircase he stood at the top of as Klaus spun around to look at his brother.

"What did mother do?" Klaus asked, hating that his suspicions had come true and his mother was back for more than to 'bring the family together', "What did you do Elijah?"

Elijah ignored his brother's question and advanced towards Damon holding a phone with a menacing look on his face. By then, Niklaus picked up the scent of his mate and her friend. He looked between the two in confusion because of the many similarities but did not speak of their presence.

Evan took the hint and nodded over to the wall and Ana nodded as they quietly sped over towards it and Anastasia cloaked them with a wordless spell.

"Tell me where the witches are or I'll have my sister kill Elena right now"

Of course, Evangeline thought, the old 'Elena' influence.

The hybrid should have known that her brothers were only wreaking havoc with the Mikaelsons because of the doppelganger.

Damon looked up at a clock tower then back to Elijah looking like he'd been lied to, "You told me I had until after 9"

More or less, Elijah didn't seem to care, "I'm sure my sister would like to start her work early"

Damon exchanged a look with Stefan, who was getting up off of the stairs as Klaus brought a fully rejuvenated Kol over to his and Elijah's sides. The Salvatore men knew that if they gave the location to the Mikaelsons, one of them—most likely Klaus—would either kill Abby Bennett or Elena's friend Bonnie Bennett and their doppelganger would be highly upset about both. The aftermath would be terrible.

But, Niklaus, ever the impatient hybrid, did not desire to wait for a response from the two Salvatore imbeciles. He could get things done on his own.

"If you needed Mother's location you could have just asked Elijah" Klaus said rolling his eyes as he grabbed his phone out his pocket and dialed a number, "Ah, Jedidiah, where is she, mate...and what is she doing...of course, I'll be collecting your heart in the morning. Thank you for sharing such important information as soon as possible"

Before the poor "ally" could respond, Klaus hung up, "That old house controlled by the witches"

"Of course" Elijah murmured to himself as they all prepared to leave.

Anastasia took that as a good time to remove the cloak on her and her best friend. Upon seeing his sister, Damon couldn't help but to spew a rude remark.

"I thought I smelled trash"

Evangeline seemed unbothered by the rude remark but Klaus didn't care as he, all in a second, pinned Damon against the brick wall making sure to crush his face into the brick. The hybrid growled, breaking his wrists.

"You are lucky time is so pressing or else I'd rip your heart out with your own hand you bastard. Do not speak to her that way"

Damon attempted to chuckle, but his throat was being ground into nothing but brick, "I see you've marked your territory mutt, isn't a bit unsanitary to keep your rags after you piss on—"

The harsh crack of a spine being severed echoed through the air as Klaus dropped the temporarily paralyzed vampire onto the cement floor and turned around glaring at her other brother menacingly, daring him to say something.

Stefan instead shrugged and sped off, not forgetting to grab his idiot brother before he left.

Meanwhile, Anastasia looked completely amused along with Kol.

"I was beginning to think all of your threats were empty brother...breaking the back...quite medieval of you"

Klaus, not being in the mood for humor, instead walked past his proud younger brother and grabbed the hand of his mate who looked stony in the face but couldn't shield the emotion she sent to him. Anastasia grabbed her other hand and they all left from the alley towards the fastest way to get to the witch house as they raced against time.

He may be an asshole but I know he doesn't mean it, Evangeline admitted to Klaus as they all went for the woods, cars were irrelevant compared to their steady speed.

Yes, but his pointless words poured salt into an already open wound love; I will never let anyone speak to you in such a way.

Thank you Niklaus

Anything for you, Dear Angel

*~*~*

Before they had gotten to the area of the woods that held the house, Anastasia informed the Mikaelsons including Evangeline that she would be leaving because she did not want Esther to be aware of her presence in the town just yet. The men respected that and Elijah tried to get Evangeline to go with the witch but Klaus had no desire to lose the presence of his mate and vice versa.

The group spotted the flames from half a mile away and the two hybrids smelled the smoke two miles back. As they arrived, they saw Esther and Finn stood inside of a pentagram with torches at each of the five vertexes.

"My sons...and daughter, come forward" Esther said, staring directly at Evangeline as her three sons and the newest addition to the family attempted to enter the pentagram.

Finn attempted to protect his mother, "Mother, step back—"

"—it's okay, they can't enter" Esther said, just as the flames increased in height as the four supernatural beings attempted to come closer to the pair.

"That's lovely, we're stuck out here while the favorite son plays sacrificial lamb" Kol spoke spitefully as they stood, "How pathetic you are, Finn"

"Be quiet Kol" Esther said dismissively lacking emotion, "Your brother knows virtue more than you can imagine"

"Whatever you believe, killing us all would be an atrocity" Elijah spat, with the same tone as his mother but with more venom in his eyes.

"My only regret...is that I didn't let you die one thousand years ago" Esther admitted shamelessly, causing Klaus to tighten his grip on his mate's hand.

"And now all this talk is boring me" The hybrid spoke defiantly, "End this now mother, or I'll send you back to Hell"

Klaus's words struck something in his mother causing her to step a bit closer as she spoke, "For a thousand years, I have been forced to watch you, felt the pain of every victim, suffer while you shed blood" Without removing her gaze from Klaus, Esther spoke to her other son, "Even you Elijah with your claim of nobility, you're no better. All of you" Esther looked from each of her sons to Evangeline, "you're a curse on this Earth, stretched out over generations. If you've come to plead for your life...I'm sorry...you've wasted your time"

By then, Evangeline was in tears she was so angry. This woman was worst than her own mother who was directly spiteful of her every day from the time she was a young child. At least Evangeline's never lied to her only to later stab her in the back. The hybrid woman wanted to break through the barrier and strangle the Original Witch for her terrible words and her plan to kill all of her children.

She made them who they were and yet she planned on killing them for what that made them become. Evangeline had to say something to the devilish woman, Niklaus had stood up for her against her family and she was going to stand up for him against his, no matter how pointless it would be.

"Esther" Evangeline muttered, with pure venom on her tongue, turning the attention towards her, "If you choose to create monsters, do not later resent them for the wreckage that they leave in their wake...you'll look foolish"

The blood witch glared at the girl but was at a loss for words so she instead merely ignored her.

Instead, Niklaus grabbed his mates hand and lead her a little ways away. It was dawning on him that if her brothers failed, he would meet his doom, and she not long after.

"Don't look at me like that" Evangeline whimpered, all of her strength dissolved at the realization she knew her mate had just had, "Nothing is going to happen to any of us"

Niklaus lifted her chin and stared into her eyes as if he was looking for the source of the strength in her words but instead found his beautiful mate staring back at him with desperation in her eyes for equal belief from him.

"Though we may not be going anywhere tonight...I need you to know, Dear Angel that I—"

"No! Sister's do not abandon me!" The atmosphere crumbled as the two hybrids sped back over to the pentagram on instinct to see the torches combust then lose their flame before Esther and the eldest Mikaelson son disappeared.

*~*~*

Once the foursome returned to the Mikaelson manor, Anastasia was there waiting with a leather shoulder bag and a grimoire. It amazed Elijah how much the witch looked like Evangeline every time he saw her but with everything weighing in on his mind, he could not think about digging in to the peculiar situation. He instead nodded at the witch before entering while Kol sped past in order to begin packing.

It was Evangeline and Niklaus who stopped in front of her. The woman took in the distraught looks on their faces but smiled slightly at the firm grip they had on each other's hands. They were truly beginning to become two halves of a whole.

Anastasia spoke to Niklaus first, "Would it be okay if I stole her away for a bit, I'd like to catch up properly but she'll be back sooner than you'd realize"

Klaus tightened his grip on Evangeline's hand a bit and clenched his jaw, the last thing he wanted was the absence of his mate during a time such as the one they were facing but he could not suffocate the woman and she deserved to spend time with her good friend...for a little bit at least.

Nik...Evangeline began, stealing his gaze, I can speak to her later...

Thirty minutes The hybrid responded with a stern look, stealing a chaste kiss before disappearing into the house.

Evangeline couldn't help but to smile at the progress before turning towards her friend and gathering her up into yet another bone crushing hug, "welcome to my life"

The White witch chuckled at her friend before grabbing her hand and leading her towards the trees where the full moon could be seen beautifully.

"You and Niklaus make a beautiful pair, Lina" Ana appeased as they sat down cross legged by the tree, basking in the moon, just like old times.

Anastasia convinced her that you could soak up the moon's beauty and power just like you could absorb the rays of the sun. Since then, they always spoke intimately during the full moons. They called it 'beauty talks' purely for entertainment.

"Thank you" Evangeline murmured, blushing at bit as she thought of the her blue eyed man.

Anastasia smiled at the evident happiness on her friend's face, "Have you spoken of a day for the ritual?"

The hybrid sighed, "Sadly, I thought that it could possibly take place today being a full moon and all but it seems as though Esther had other plans and that has definitely been ruined"

Anastasia nodded, "Her intention was never to help with the ritual, that is why I'm here"

"I imagined there was a motive larger than you missed Elijah and I" Evangeline chuckled as she grabbed her best friend's hand, "I am so glad you're here"

"But?" Anastasia questioned, knowing her friend needed to say more.

"But, everything is coming down on us right now...having another ritual? How would that possibly be successful?"

"Don't doubt me" Anastasia joked halfheartedly and squeezed her friend's hand, "You two were meant to be together and it's going to go smoothly"

The Salvatore woman sighed showing doubt on her features, "What if we can't fully commit to it? What if we die and come back human because we weren't true mates?"

Anastasia nearly laughed at the serious expression on Evangeline's face, "That will not happen"

"How can you be so sure?"

"Because he is in love with you and you are in love with him"

The hybrid woman's heart skipped a beat, "H-How would you know?"
