《Devil May Love | Niklaus Mikaelson》Chapter Nine: Chicago

I believe I mentioned a double update...

having to pack more than half of my things because I nearly melted off the doorknob with my abnormally high body temperature. We both decided that if I could melt metal then I'd burn holes in my clothes and it would be better if he just did the packing.

I didn't really care until he came across Marilyn. Marilyn was one of my lace thongs, I had one for every day of the week in different colors and they were a gag gift from Anastasia for my one hundredth anniversary of being a vampire. They all had names derived from beautiful famous women in the 1900s because who wouldn't name their thong after Marilyn Monroe or Audrey Hepburn?

Anyway, the only reason I brought them with me on the trip was because I knew my brothers were going to go through my things eventually and the last thing I wanted was for them to come across my thongs. I hadn't expected Klaus coming across them either so I wasn't sure who finding my risqué underwear was worse. Probably Klaus because of the look he gave me before he put the collection into my suitcase and resumed packing for me.

Cooling myself down meant taking an ice cold shower after Klaus took all of the hot water after all, so, I was practically shivering once we were back in Klaus's car and zooming away from the motel.

"So where are we going this time?" I asked as a slightly familiar song began playing on the radio. Something about a drop in the ocean...actually that was definitely the name of the song.

I really liked it and I'd forgotten I asked Klaus a question until Klaus answered it, slapping my hand when I tried to turn up the music.

"The windy city" He mused with a smile, "A big part of your brother's past"

"Which one?" I asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Stefan" He said with a smug look on his face, "In fact, he and I were quite good friends back in the twenties"

I shot the blonde man a doubtful look, "Oh really? Then why does he hate you so much now?"

An array of emotion went through the hybrid's eyes, "Things got complicated, he doesn't remember those days"

"Right" I muttered not having the energy to press the subject, "Well, I don't know about you but I'm getting a little homesick so...when exactly will you be returning me to the Boardinghouse?"

The Mikaelson shrugged, "If things go through smoothly in Chicago, soon enough"

I nodded and didn't speak another word, I just hoped that everything went right in the windy city so I could see my brothers again.

Three mindless arguments, four catnaps, two Chinese fire drills and over five hundred miles later, we pulled up to a bar named Gloria's. I remembered going here a couple of times when I was thinking about seeing my brothers but I was told I came twenty years too late. The owner, Gloria, was another witch that didn't like me very much. With my luck, she was most likely still alive.

"Have you been here before, love?" Klaus asked me as he took the key out of the ignition.

I glanced at the place and shuttered, "Remember my mentioning of witches who disliked me?"

He caught on to what I was implying and grinned, "No worries, Gloria is one of my most powerful allies and indeed my favorite witch"

Of course, I thought to myself as I got out of the car.

Klaus may have been disliked and hated by many but he was feared by almost all because of how powerful he was and on top of that, he was attractive so he most likely had allies all over the place.

That was the difference between he and I, he was powerful because of his hybridization yet mine literally threatened my life and if it gave me power I would have no idea how to control it. Plus I wasn't a handsome British man so there went my chances of female allies and most men didn't like a woman who was stronger than them so...yeah.

As soon as we walked into the place, it felt like I'd walked straight into a powerhouse. I felt the vibes and energy of the century's worth of parties and music that had gone on and continued to go on in the place. It was amazing yet intimidating.

"Well, well, well" A female voice announced as Klaus and I walked further towards the emptied tables and upturned chairs then saw Gloria with her snow white hair now cut very short. She still looked gorgeous though, I had to give it to her. She looked like she barely aged.

Klaus began to make a terrible sounding joke about a hybrid walking into a bar but thankfully Gloria stopped him, informing him that he wasn't funny. He glared at me for chuckling but I just shrugged at him.

Her eyes were slits when she saw me, "I hadn't ever expected the two of you to ever meet or get along"

"Well that's still up for debate" I muttered as I glanced over at the bar then back to Klaus who nodded and I went over to make us a couple drinks.

"You break anything, I break you" Gloria sneered at me and I refrained from giving her the finger before I grabbed the bottle of alcohol of my choosing as she and Klaus began talking.

"I assume you are aware of why I'm here" I tuned in to their conversation as I retrieved the glasses and looked for the cherry flavoring for mine.

Gloria sat back and looked at him knowingly, "The hybrid looking to make more hybrids, news like that travels fast"

Klaus went on to inform her that he did everything he was supposed to, "I even sacrificed the doppelganger in a ring of fire, what am I doing wrong?"

Little did he know, Elena was very much alive, naïve and most likely tagging along with my brothers as they stubbornly were going against my wishes and looking for me. The two male Salvatores were very predictable in that way. I just needed to make sure they didn't get caught by Klaus for keeping Elena alive.

Finished with my alcoholic concoction and Klaus's drink, I grabbed the two glasses and approached the hybrid and the witch.

"I hope you don't mind, I used a bit of the cherry flavor in mine. You know how much I love my cherry...let's hope there's no vervain in it this time" I deadpanned to the darker skinned witch with a tight smile.

She mumbled something rolling her eyes while Klaus laughed at the two of us and accepted his drink from me only to set it down.

"I'll try it then" He said with a wolfish grin and threats and warnings towards the witch dancing in his eyes.

Before I could even utter a word, the man took the glass from me and brought my cherry alcohol to his lips. The urge to stare at his lips was strong but I pulled my eyes away and looked to the witch who was watching the exchange with a smirk.

Klaus took a sip then pulled the glass away, "Ah, no vervain but the bourbon's a bit much Dear Angel"

"What can I say, I'm related to Damon" I said with a chuckle and a 'what can you do' shrug before taking a sip of my own trying to ignore the tingles in my gut at the thought of sharing a drink with Klaus.

Gloria tried not to crack a smile at my comment but she failed and chuckled a bit. Hmm, guess she knew Damon. What was I saying, of course she knew my brother, she was God knows how old.

"Anyway, you obviously did something wrong" Gloria told Klaus who nearly growled at that while I just rolled my eyes at him and nodded in agreement.

"But" She began stealing back our attention, "Every spell has a loophole but a curse that old, we'd have to contact the witch who created it"

I glanced over at the bar again and a picture caught my eye. Getting up, I went over and grabbed it while Klaus spoke.

"That would be the Original witch who is very dead" He informed bluntly while I continued studying the picture, wow, I guess Klaus wasn't lying.

It was a picture of him and Stefan from the twenties wearing large smiles on their faces with their arms over each other's shoulders as if they were the best of friends.

"I know" Gloria said as I walked back over to them, "And in order for me to contact her, I'll need help..."

I glanced up from the picture to see her staring at Klaus intensely, "Bring me Rebekah"

"Rebekah" Klaus muttered in an 'of course' kind of way while throwing his head back, "Rebekah...is a bit preoccupied"

Yeah, half dead, I thought to myself as I sat back down beside the hybrid.

Gloria didn't care about Rebekah's apparent unavailability, "She has what I need...bring her to me"

Klaus looked annoyed but didn't say anything so I did "Would be okay if I kept this?"

Both Klaus and Gloria trained their eyes on the picture, Klaus smiled and Gloria just shrugged.

"Sure, has no value to me. How's that brother of yours anyway? He sure wreaked enough havoc in my place, I have no doubts he still is" The witch bemused and Klaus rolled his eyes knowing I was going to boast about my sibling.

"Actually, he's much better now. Damon's the one to worry about these days from what I hear...well, aside from him" I said, motioning to Klaus who seemed honored to be the one causing problems.

"Stefan was quite the wingman" Klaus reminisced as he took the photo from my hands and studied it.

I chuckled a bit at Klaus in the photo, "I hope you realize you look about ten years older with your hair slicked back like that"

The hybrid raised his eyebrow, "That look was in back then"

"And you looked like a grandfather, Nik" I retorted chuckling a bit before I noticed the witch glancing between the two of us frantically, "what is it?"

Klaus was looking at her too now and she looked like she'd seen an alien, "I didn't think it was true" She muttered with wide, worried eyes.

"You didn't think what was true?" The hybrid and I questioned at the same time.

I was worried while Klaus looked aggravated with the witch.

"Y-you two...th-the mates..." She uttered as she backed up against a table looking like she was about to begin cowering in fear.

Klaus and I shared a confused look and I felt a pang in my heart at the word she used. Mates...

"I'm sorry, the what?" I asked walking a bit closer but Klaus pulled me back because a scared witch was never good.

They had a tendency to cause aneurysms or worst during those moments. Their power was like our urge to kill, a defense mechanism.

Fortunately, the witch shook herself out of it, "I—just bring me Rebekah" and with that, she was gone leaving us in a pile of confusion.

Klaus and I reluctantly went back to his car with a million questions in our heads and no idea what to say. He silently drove us to a storage unit and I didn't find my voice until we were entering the place.

"What do you think she meant by the mates, Nik?" I asked, having to walk quicker to catch up with his large steps.

"I'm not sure, but I'll be finding out" He muttered before we entered a room filled with an overwhelming amount of coffins, more than I'd expected.

It was a bit ironic that most of the world's most powerful vampires actually resided in coffins. Like, who would've thought?

Klaus quickly went to one straight across from us and opened it revealing a beautiful, grey corpse of a women with blonde pin curls in a flapper dress and a silver dagger in her chest. It was quite a menacing sight to see when he caressed her cheek with a loving smile on his face that I'd never witnessed on him before.

"Did Stefan know her?" I asked gently from behind him as I watched the scene.

He spoke softly, "Yes but he won't know it"

Before I could ask him why, he quickly pulled the dagger from her chest. I slightly thought she was going to come to life out of nowhere but then I figured it'd take time seeing as she'd been like that for over eighty years.

"Time to wake up little sister" The slight rasp in his voice made my mind a bit hazy as we both waited for her to wake up.

After ten minutes, Klaus spoke, "Any day now Rebekah...she's quite dramatic"

"I'm sure you'd never call her that to her face" I murmured chuckling a bit as I studied the girl.

She didn't even look old enough to be twenty; she must've been turned young...like me. I wondered if it was against her will as well.

"Of course not" Klaus chuckled, "Her temper is worse than mine"

Raising an eyebrow, I glanced from Klaus to his sister. I could see bad things happening with those two roaming around in the same area with bad tempers.

"So why do you think Gloria needs your sister? And why wouldn't Stefan remember the two of you?" I asked, unable to keep my curiosity inside.

We had only been in Chicago for a couple of hours yet nothing seemed to make sense nor get solved.

"At first, I actually quite hated your brother Stefan" Klaus informed turning towards me, "But then he and Rebekah became a thing and he actually taught me a few tricks of the trade. Your brother was ruthless and quite a man to be around. He wasn't as brooding and hung up as he is today, feeding on animals and what not. He was a true vampire, good enough to be with a purebred like my sister"

He spoke of how Stefan was today as if it was some type of tragedy. It was quite interesting to see the works of Klaus's mind.

"He shared a very big secret of his with me...we were like brothers" It didn't take a genius to see that Klaus missed my brother when he was a ripper but he was ruthless that way and completely unsafe for not only humans but vampires as well.

Klaus abruptly snapped out of it and began to walk out of the place leaving me to practically run after him.

Times like those were when I despised being put in such a petite frame. Klaus and my brothers were practically skyscrapers compared to me.

"I was his biggest fan, you know?" He added as we got closer to the door.

I was still confused on how Stefan wouldn't remember him and then it dawned on me. One of the best powers of an Original was the ability to compel a vampire, he had to have compelled my brother.

Stopping in front of the guard, he compelled him, "When she wakes up tell her to meet Evangeline here and I at Gloria's bar and allow her to feed on you until you die"

Cutthroat and quick, was all I could think about his comment before he was back to walking too fast for my legs towards the exit.

"Where are we going?" I asked chasing after him.

"To your brother's old apartment...a memorial of his Ripper days"

~~*~~*~~*~~

I'm gonna stop it here because if I continue it'll get waaaay too long.

Anyway, do you guys think Rebekah and Evangeline will get along?

What do you think of the ending scene with Gloria?

Your comments mean the world to me :)
