《Devil May Love | Niklaus Mikaelson》Chapter Four: Price for the Cure

of the house before Alaric could talk me out of it right when Stefan showed up with Elena and her friends. Being on the mission, I barely acknowledged their presence.
"Evangeline, where are you going?" Elena asked taking on the task of pronouncing my mouthful of a name.
I sighed and paused keeping my hand on the messenger side door handle, "I'm going to speak with Klaus to get the cure"
Stefan spoke this time, "No you're not"
"Remember I'm your older sister Stef and you know how I feel when people try control my actions" I spoke calmly but it felt like a ticking time bomb was attached to my anger that would go off if they didn't let me go and try to save my older brother.
"It's not safe Evan—if you don't mind me calling you that" Caroline offered.
Sighing again, I turned my attention to her, "I prefer it actually and the entire world isn't safe yet here we are"
Bonnie was about to speak but I continued, "Look, I've spoken with Niklaus before and he was nice enough believe it or not so maybe I can reason with him"
"His niceness is a façade" Bonnie sneered.
"It may be but I don't care, I'm saving my brother. I just got him back and I'm not losing him"
"I'm coming with you" Stefan and Elena said.
I frowned and opened my car door shaking my head, "No you're not, the both of you are going in there and comforting Damon. I'll try to be back as soon as possible"
Before either could protest, I got in my car and in an instant I was pulling off and zooming towards the Sunnydale Apartment building.
I sped into the lobby at human speed and asked for the room number that the handsome man with blonde curls. The person working at the desk was a woman who couldn't be much younger than thirty five who gave me snarky look.
"Why would you like to know?" She snapped as if he were hers or something.
I rolled my eyes at her jealousy and tried again, "Give me the room number before I slit your throat"
I compelled her that time so she quickly said 42B and I sped off.
I knocked on the door as soon as I reached it with my vampire speed. Soon enough, it opened up revealing the man with the blonde curls and daring blue eyes I'd been looking for. He held a glass and a smirk as he realized who I was.
"Evangeline, have you come to finish your story?" I ignored the stomach swirls his accent gave me and gave him a sad shake of the head as he led me to a new leather couch in the middle of the room.
"I'm afraid now is not the time Niklaus, something terrible has happened" I said, looking at him distraught as we sat.
He took a sip of his wine keeping his eyes on me, "And what is this tragedy you speak of?"
"Damon has been bitten by a werewolf" The tears began to swell up in my eyes again.
Much to my displeasure, the hybrid smirked, "Has he now?
"Yes" I said through a cracked voice.
I was seconds from falling apart, it was worse than when I saw my father drive a sword through both of my brothers.

Niklaus cocked an eyebrow and I could practically see the gears moving in his head, "And what makes you think I'd be able to help him?"
"Because you're over one thousand years old and my only choice"
He stared at me after that, as if he were daring me to cry, to break down in front of him showing my weakness. I squirmed under his gaze feeling my patience slowly diminishing as he played with my resolve. This definitely was his manipulative, conniving side coming into play.
I opened my mouth to speak but he beat me to it speaking a name I never want to hear, "Katherine!"
The female waste of oxygen emerged from the back of the room with a smirk, "hello Lina"
"Don't you dare call me that" I spat at her narrowing my eyes as my blood began to boil at her presence.
I wanted to do nothing but rip her heart out as soon as I saw her but I had bigger, more important things at hand. Plus, obviously since she was here with Klaus, he had plans for her though I figured 'bitch' wouldn't be his type.
"Ah, it seems everyone does truly hate you" Klaus chortled as he grabbed her and brought her over.
Katherine rolled her eyes but I continued to glare at her imagining her death over and over.
Before I could speak or kill the trollop, Niklaus got a shot glass and bit into his wrist allowing the deep scarlet colored liquid to begin to fill it. I watched the process skeptically but I said nothing to question it until he drew his wrist away and handed the glass to the doppel-bitch.
She looked at the glass and distaste, "You don't expect me to drink this do you?"
The hybrid rolled his eyes at the brunette skank, "Of course not but if you'd stop talking it'd be wonderful"
She rolled her eyes but didn't say anything so the hybrid turned to look at me, "My blood is a cure, and Katherine here will be bringing it to your brother"
I let out a sigh of relief but then soon furrowed my eyebrows, "Why can't I bring it to him myself? I don't trust that the doppelgangbang won't take it for herself and let my brother die"
The hybrid stifled his laughter at my name calling, "Because if she doesn't, I will personally rip her throat out then her heart and make her eat both"
I lifted an eyebrow, "I call throat"
Niklaus ignored my comment, "and as for you, the cure comes with a price"
"Which is?" I asked, feeling nervous all of a sudden.
He grinned, "You and I will be going on a trip. A good opportunity for you to finish that story"
He sent Katherine away, knowing she wouldn't be returning since she was on vervain then turned towards me. My heart skipped a beat, which he smirked at since he heard it very clearly. Sadly, being half human my heart still beat loud and clear.
"A trip? Why can't I tell you my story now?" I asked.
I had really wanted to be there when Damon healed and was able to get better since he and I hadn't been able to spend any time together since I'd arrived.

"Because I have a feeling it's a long, complicated one and I have out of state things to do" He explained already making up his mind about it.
"Why not when you return? The story will be the same" I said trying one more time to negotiate my way out of a long, awkward trip with the man I barely knew.
He sighed with a smile, "Yes but you are fit to be a good companion and I must keep an eye on you"
I blinked at him, "Why?"
"Well for one, you have a very strong heartbeat—not very common in your typical vampire, and second, I don't need another person brainwashed into trying to kill me while I'm gone" He said, very pleased with his logic.
I ignored his reasons and made another excuse, "Klaus this is the first I've seen my brothers in one hundred years, please let me be with them"
The hybrid shot me a nasty glare that would've taken my life if looks could kill.
"Give me one more pathetic excuse love and you won't have brothers to spend time with" He snapped at me with cold, hard blue eyes to match his threat.
Immediately wincing at his threat, I took one step away from him and kept my mouth shut before nodding in obedience. I knew when I had been bested and the last thing I wanted to do was be the reason for my brothers' demise because I was too much of a wimp to go on a road trip with the big bad wolf.
Niklaus sighed looking as if he'd almost regret losing his patience with me, "Now come along, I'll take you to pack a bag and say your goodbyes"
Nodding, I followed after him as he grabbed an already packed bag and walked out of the apartment.
It didn't take long before his black shiny BMW pulled up in front of the boarding house and I took a deep breath ready to take on my brothers. Klaus grabbed my hand before I could reach for the door handle and I turned towards him as he kept a serious look on his face.
Before I knew it, he lifted my chin so I was forced to look into his beautiful ice blue eyes as he spoke.
"Your brothers and everyone else are going to try to stop you from coming, reject them and stop at nothing to get back out here in no longer than thirty minutes" He compelled.
Unwillingly, I fell under his spell, "I will stop at nothing"
Sadly, I was terribly allergic to vervain so its effects were ten times worse than the usual burning of the skin on a vampire on me.
I entered the house and immediately heard everyone in the living room so I took that as a chance to speed up to my room and pack a bag. Having no idea how long I'd be gone, I packed my most combination friendly outfits and some money just in case I'd need more and for food since it was a part of my diet as well. Remembering that I was still in my pajamas since I literally threw on shoes and left, I changed into a pair of pale blue boot-cut jeans, a black v-neck, comfortable brown Dr. Martin's, and threw my hair in a loose curly bun. Once I was finished, I'd advanced to the door but I was stopped by both of my brothers standing in front of it.
Now fully healed and well Damon crossed his arms, "Going somewhere?"
My eyes went wide, "I um...yes"
"Why is Klaus outside?!" Elena exclaimed in a panic, I realized that she was supposed to be dead.
It was kind of idiotic for her to be speaking so loudly. He would definitely hear her big mouth if she kept screaming like that. He was supernatural after all.
I sighed before spilling the beans, "In order to get your cure Damon, I had to make a deal with Niklaus—"
"AKA the devil" Caroline muttered behind me.
"What deal?" Stefan asked with narrowed eyes.
"I have to go on a trip with him"
"Where?" Damon demanded
"I don't know"
"How long will it last?" Stefan asked.
"I also don't know"
"You're not going with him" Damon stated, trying to take the leather duffel out of my hand.
That was when the compulsion kicked in and I pushed him away, "I am and he has compelled me to go at any costs to anyone trying to make me do anything otherwise so please do not make me do anything I regret"
"Why aren't you on vervain?" Elena scrutinized.
I glared at her, not liking her tone at all, "I'm highly allergic to it and watch your tone and maybe shut the hell up seeing as you're not dead like the man nearly six meters away thinks"
That shut her up and Bonnie glared at me, "Don't talk to her like that"
"I'm only addressing her the same way she addressed me" I said turning my glare to the brunette, "now if you'd excuse me, I have a mere five minutes before the big bad hybrid comes knocking on the door"
"Evan—"
"Damon, please let me do this for you" I begged and he closed his mouth before my brothers stepped away from the door and each hugged me.
"Good luck" Stefan mumbled kissing my hair.
"Be safe or I'll kill you" Damon threatened weakly.
I chuckled kissing his cheek before I went through the door without a glance behind me knowing that if I looked back, I'd do something I would later regret.
I got into the car right at the thirty minute mark and the hybrid turned to look at me, obviously seeing the tears in my eyes.
"I'm not going to hurt you" He murmured before taking the car out of park and pulling away from the boardinghouse.
The drive was silent for what felt like ages and my eyes were hurting from just staring at the scenery zooming past me. Klaus didn't look too comfortable either but he seemed more content with the silent atmosphere than I was. Too bad I ruined it.
"So where are we headed?"
"Tennessee" He said keeping his eyes on the road, "There's a werewolf pack there that I must meet"
I furrowed my eyebrows, "Why? Are they a part of your bloodline?"
"No" He said curtly, "I plan on making my first batch of hybrids"
