Chapter Twelve

Harmony's POV

"Mony, Mony, Harmony" I was being shaken.

I slowly open my eyes to see the person who so rudely woke me up from my beauty sleep. I was still very tired from the club last night, dancing wears me out.

"How may I help you this fine early morning?" I ask, my voice still thick with sleep.

"I just wanted to tell you I'm leaving for work, there's money on the counter" Drew tells me.

I brush my hand over my eyes, wiping away the sleep.

True to his word, Drew is in his cop uniform, his hair gelled up in a foe hawk and his sunglasses propped up on his head.

"Oh okay, have fun catching bad guys" I smile, snuggling further under the covers.

Drew chuckles "Will do"

I hear the sound of the door clicking shut before I close my eyes again, and drift back into the land of dreams.

I awaken again, hours later. The digital clock on the nightstand tells me its 10:30.

"I should probably get up now" I say out loud.

I swing my legs over the bed and walk over to the giant window. I swipe the curtains away, giving myself a clear view of the city.

My plan for today is to clean the apartment firstly. I can't live in a pig sty, I could catch some diseases. Then I will walk Echo cause I seriously doubt Drew had to time do it this morning. Thirdly, I'm going to try and find myself a job. I can't keep taking Drew's money and I want to pay him back for all the things he's already bought for me. Lastly, I'm going to go and visit Drew, see if they arrested Kayla and maybe hang around with him for a while.

I yawn, stretching my arms over my head. I grab a couple towels from the linen closet then make my way to the bathroom. I start the shower and strip out of the dress I was wearing last night.

I'm glad Drew didn't try to change me into some Pj's. He would have seen my scars and that is not something I want him to know about. Not now, not ever.

He did however remove my shoes, which I'm grateful for. I wouldn't want to sleep in heels.

I run back into my room in my panties and bra, taking my iPod out of my clutch purse and plugging it into Drew's iHome which he happened to leave in the washroom.

I check to see if the water is hot before shredding off the remainder clothing and jumping in as the beginning chords of Bring me to life start.

I sing along with the song as I do my business in the shower. Pretending to play my air guitar while hoping around. One of my favourite quotes is,

You can't be two things in the shower. You're either a rock star or an opera queen.

I'm a rock star evidently.

After I'm done in the shower, I skip out, wrapping a towel around my hair and my body.

I plug in the blow dryer and the hair straightener, and begin brushing my teeth while I wait for the hair straightener to heat up.

I blow dry my hair, imagining myself as one of the girls in the Herbal Essences commercials, who believe themselves rock stars because they used Herbal Essences.

Pfft, I used Trés Amé and I look like a rocks tar with my crazy hair. What were those commercial maker people thinking? Obviously they weren't.

I straighten my hair and apply my make-up. I shuffle into my bedroom closet, dancing along to the song currently playing.

I pull out my panda shirt, my pair of short shorts and my new pink converse. I feel like wearing something casual today.

After I'm dressed, a pull my hair up into a pony tail on the top of my head, letting a couple stray strands fall.

I head out into the kitchen, pulling out a whole box of garbage bags, a broom, some gloves, a pail, a sponge and a swiffer wet jet. I search the apartment for a laundry basket and manage to find one in the laundry room.

I yank on the gloves, making them snap against my wrist like the doctors do.

"Guess I'll start with my room"

I choose to start with my room because I've only been living here for a couple days; it's obviously not that messy.

I gather all the clothes I've strewn across the floor and move onto Drew's room.

I plug my nose before walking it.

Surprisingly, Drew's room isn't too bad. He has most of his clothes thrown over the floor, his dresser is practically tipping over because of the clothes spilling out of it. His bed is a mess. Sheets thrown every which way, pillows chucked all over the room. His towel from the mornings shower is hung over the curtain pole and his outfit from last night is on the floor of the bathroom.

"Urggg, Men, such pigs they are" I grumble, collecting all of his dirty clothes off the floor, including his towel.

When the floor is half way visible, I move on to putting all the clothes that are spilling out of the dresser, back into it. This doesn't take as long as I feared.

After I finish with Drew's room, I drag the laundry basket down the hall to the laundry room, grabbing all the clothes and such that are lining the hall into the basket.

I start the washer and dump the clothes into it, heading into the living room to get the rest. There isn't that much however, I'm guessing Drew tidied up a bit after I came and I almost drowned in the sea of clothing.

I dump that load of clothing in with the rest and move on to picking up all the garbage. The pizza box from the first night, millions of pop cans, most of which happen to be Dr. Pepper, food wrappers and all that stuff.

By the time all the garbage is gone, I have filled up 3 garbage bags that are waiting by the door for me to bring down to the garbage room.

I move onto the vacuum cleaning once the floor has nothing on it that might get stuck in the vacuum and blow it up. Trust me, I've done that before.

After the carpets are done, I move onto the hardwood floors and the tiles in the kitchen and the washroom.

I wipe down the sinks, I clean the toilet -the most disgusting thing I've ever done in my life- and the shower, I wipe the steam off the mirrors, I clean off the counter and I wipe down the windows.

For the finishing touch, I febreeze the whole building.

I smile my hands on my hips as I examine my work. The apartment looks like a whole new place.

I take a package of chicken out of the deep freeze and leave it in the sink to thaw out for dinner.

I collect my iPod and my phone, transferring them over to my new purse and perch my sunglasses on my head.

I stand by the front door, the key Drew gave me in my hand and whistle for Echo.

While I was in the shower this morning, I decided that I wanted to take Echo with me for the whole day instead of just taking him for one walk and then bringing him home, where's the point in that?

Echo comes bounding around the corner, his tongue hanging out.

I crouch down to his level and scratch his head. "Wanna spend the day with me?"

Echo barks and wags his tail.

I chuckled, "I take that as a yes"

I heave the garbage bags over my shoulder and lock the door behind me, before heading down the hall to the stairs to drop the garbage bags off in the garbage room.

I refuse to take the elevator without Drew. Zachariah kinda creeps me out and brings back bad memories. That is something I certainly do not want to experience again.

I dump the bags into the bigger garbage can and shade my eyes with my sunglasses the second I walk outside, Echo still walking beside me.

I vaguely remember Drew telling me some time, that Echo didn't need to be on a leash because he was well trained and didn't need it.

I walk along the street, glancing at the shop windows looking for a We are hiring sign or something. Lost of people are in fact hiring, but I got turned down for every one of the interviews.

I manage to find myself in front of a Movie theatre with a sign on the door.

This is my last stop, if I don't get hired here I am going to the mall and I certainly don't feel like doing that.

"Echo stay" I tell him sternly, pointing to the spot I didn't want him to move from.

Echo plants his butt down, his tongue lolling out.

I walk into the theatre and ask a young girl for the manager. She points to a big guy with a long beard and long hair, making him look like a hippie. No offense to hippies though.

"How can I help you miss?" He asks, his voice filled with a southern twang.

Normally I like guys with southern accents by this guys is more like a hill billy's accent, its kind freaky.

"I was wondering if I could get a job?" I ask, trying to sound brave.

"Well we are in desperate need for some new employees, of course your hired" He smiles, revealing two missing front teeth.

I smile.

Finally, I got a job!

"When do I start?" I stutter, trying to contain my happiness.

"Tomorrow at 11:30. That's rush hour. You can collect your uniform from Halley and fill out the form" Hill Billy waves over a girl with red hair and green eyes.

"Hey, I'm Halley" She says sticking out her hand.

"Harmony" I shake her hand and she leads me over to a closet.

On her way by, she unhooks a clip board of off the wall and hands it to me.

"Fill that out, you'll have your name tag by tomorrow" I nod and begin filling out the questions while Halley gets my uniform.

"What size are you?" She calls from the storage room.

"Medium" I answer, scribbling down the last two answers.

Halley comes out of the closet holding a dry cleaners bag containing a shirt and a hat.

"You have to wear black pants and black shoes tomorrow" She informs me, handing me the top.

"Alright, thanks" I smile, taking the shirt.

"See you tomorrow Harmony" Halley waves at me as I leave the theatre.

I wave back, shading my eyes with my sunglasses. I glance in the spot I left Echo and find him laying there, basking in the shade.

"C'mon Echo" I wave him over.

I pop in my headphones and choose a song. Rock star by: Nickelback.

I bop my head along to the beat. I walk down the sidewalk on my way to the police station down town when I come across a Crispy Cream store.

I squeal and order Echo to sit before bolting into the store.

Doughnutty goodness fills my nostrils, and the sounds of doughnuts being made fill my ears.

I order a 20 pack of freshly made glazed ones. They're the best when you eat them fresh, they melt in your mouth.

Echo and I make our way into the police station. I power off my iPod and prop my sunglasses on my head.

I head over to the secretary, balancing the doughnuts on my hand.

"Hey, can you tell me where Officer Edwards is?"

The secretary looks up. "He's actually on duty at the moment, and who might you be?"

"Harmony Kingston"

Realisation crosses her features. "I see, well he should be back in a few minutes, you can go wait in his office if you'd like?"

I nod my head and walk down the hall in the direction she pointed me in, thanking her on my way by.

I open the door to Drew's office and drop the box of doughnuts on his desk. I plonk my butt down in his spinny chair and prop my feet up on the windowsill.

Drew's office has a great view of down town. You can see the beach and all the little beach stands and people playing in the water or sun tanning. He also has a clear view of the boardwalk I use to live under.

Once again my thoughts wonder to Kayla.

Did someone come and arrest her? Did she wake up and manage to untie herself? Who knows, all I'm hoping is she did get arrested.

The door opens and from the reflection in the window, I can see Drew's back.

I spin around in the chair and say "I've been expecting you"

I've always wanted to do that.

Drew chuckles and spots the doughnuts. His eyes widen and in two long strides he closes the distance between him and the doughnuts. He rips open the box and shoves a whole doughnut in his mouth.

I guess what they say about Police officers and doughnuts are true. Drew just proved that.

So I know this chapter was uneventful, but Drew and Harmony have to get to know each other a little better before the fun stuff happens, so bare with me.

I just want to thank those who have given me ideas on what I should do, those were very helpful. I'll see what I can do.

Since we're getting further into the story, it might be easier for you guys to think of a better title. If you have any ideas, please tell me I would really appreciate it.

I want to thank those of you who voted, fanned and commented it made me super happy. I reached my goal of 20 fans, so thank you all for making that possible. I love it when I get comments telling me that you love my story, those make me happy also. Actually all comments make me happy :D

If any of you woud like to make a banner, go ahead! That would be really awesome.

That there is a pic of Harmony ____________________________>

And if you were wondering what outfit Harmony was wearing, I think if you go back 2 chapters there's a slide show of all the outfits she bought. It's the one with the pink converse and the panda shirt. Just in case y'all wanted to know what it looked like.

Quote of the day - "Duct tape is like the force. It has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the world together."

I thought that was funny, there might be another one tomorrow. Lool, I'm kinda addicted to quotes

You guys rock!!
