《Sirens in Seattle》{chapter 33}

"Want anything to eat? I can go to the cafeteria and get you a sandwich? Or I'll leave and get you something , what's that place you like? Wendy's?" My dad asked rubbing his hand against mine.
I smiled softly. It's been like this for the few days I've been here, under observation.
"No, it's ok dad, really." I tried to say but it was a lost cause.
"I'll be back as soon as possible." He interrupted , pushing away from the bed and grabbing my mothers hand as she continued to weep.
After they left, Phoenix entered my room where I could tell he was crying because of his red rimmed eyes and blotchy cheeks.
He took the spot my dad had said nothing as he looked at his boots, since he was still in uniform.
"I'm ok." I said softly and he still said nothing.
"Phoenix , really-" he cut me off by slamming his hand on the rail of my bed making me let out a little scream and jump.
"I should of been there." He said through clenched teeth, tears welling up again.
I sighed. "No, nothing could of stopped this from happening. If not me, then it would of been another innocent girl and maybe she wouldn't of been as lucky." I tried to explain.
He shook his head, the tears now falling freely. "You don't understand! I could of been home early but I chose to finish filing one more document for my case."
I sighed and leaned my head back. Utterly exhausted.
"Phoenix. The more you try to blame yourself, the more it takes out of me because it's not your fault." I said with a frustrated sigh.
He just bit him bottom lip and looked down.
I suddenly sat up and threw my blankets off.
"Mia, you need to rest." Phoenix began and I rolled my eyes so far back in my head there was a possibility they wouldn't roll back.
"You guys are treating me like I'm incapable of anything. Yes it happened. Yes I'm scared. Yes it will take a while for me to feel safe again. But I need normality back like right away. Every time you guys baby me or blame yourselves ,I get flashed with imagines of me hiding defenseless in a fucking closet." I seethed at him, walking to a bag I assume Phoenix packed me, since I didn't do it myself.

I slipped on some cropped leggings and a hoodie with my college logo while he stood quietly.
"Ok." He said quietly.
I ignored him while throwing my hair in bun, leaving some baby hairs down in attempt to look some what cute but it was pointless. Laying down for a few days straight can definitely cause one to look a bit busted.
"Hurry up then, we need to get on the road." He spoke again, and this time I turned to look and see he had a small smirk on his face.
I raised an eyebrow at him but he said nothing except he swooped me off my feet, literally.
"Oh my god! Nix!" I couldn't help but giggle , even though I tried to sound angry, dropping the items in my hand expect for my phone.
I definitely still felt annoyed and after sassing him out I planned on a silent treatment , but by being charming he was making that very hard.
He continued to carry me past the front desk where my cheeks flamed as the nurses chuckled.
"Here, give these to her parents when they come back, tell them we'll be back as soon as possible." He told the main girl at the desk, handing them our apartment keys.
She smiled with light eyes. "Of course."
He continued to carry me and I couldn't help but laugh at how dramatic it was, my previous anger slowly floating out of me.
"I know you're arms must feel like breaking. I'm not the lightest." I teased at him.
"Are you insulting my strength?" He mocked hurt.
We finally arrived to his Rover and he gently set me in the passenger seat, a tiny bit out of breath.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
He simply flashes me a big smile before closing my door and jumping into the drivers seat.
He plugged his phone into his aux and scrolled through his phone until he settled on a song.
"My haters corny with that illuminati mess, paparazzi catch my fly and my cocky fresh" began to seep through the speakers making me laugh.
Phoenix knew any Beyoncé song would instantly activate my soul.
He turned it higher and began to sing along wildly making my stomach hurt from all of the laughter.
"Oh my god stop!" I was finally able to screech out over his "OK LADIES NOW LETS GET IN FORMATION"

He finally stopped and I was able to let my laughter go down as we pulled into a McDonalds drive through.
I was a bit confused but shrugged it off, Nix loves his McDonalds.
"Ok we'll have the 20 piece chicken nuggets , like 2 chicken sandwiches, a few regular cheeseburgers and three large fries." He concluded.
"Nix!" I argued as he pulled up to the pay window. "Why did you order all of that! I know you might easily be able to eat half but all of that?" I ranted.
"Just relax, it will all make sense soon ." He sushed me, handing me all of the order.
I rolled my eyes a bit in annoyance but mostly confusion. Surprises definitely weren't my thing.
We drove for a bit while I changed our songs from Queen B to Christmas.
"Your one of those people" he chuckled.
"What?" I asked with a slight smile playing on my lips.
"Christmas before thanksgiving type." He replied.
"Shut up. Christmas started the second Halloween ended." I pointed out making him give me a skeptical look.
Our soft Christmas music played in the background as we pulled up to a local Target.
"I'll be right back." He told me, hopping out and not giving me a chance to ask the who what when were why's .
I reclined in the seat comfortably and turned up the songs playing while scrolling through all of my "get well" posts which made my heart smile and feel warm.
The best one was from my bestie Minnie, it was a picture of us back from when we first had met. Our eyes we're wide with wonder, our hair natural and unkept and our smiles wide. I screenshoted it happily. It felt nice to be surrounded with warmth and familiarity.
I was snapped out of my thoughts when the drivers door was opened and Phoenix got in, struggling to hold around 5 fuzzy blankets and multiple throw pillows.
"Nix!" I laughed when he finally was able to shove them in the back.
He handed me another bag filled with all of my favorite candies , including Twix , and all types of chocolate.
"What is all of this?!" I continued to beg for any type of clue.
"I'm going to need you to put this on" he smiled widely holding up a bandana.
"On my head?" I questioned.
"Around your eyes you dork." He answered not giving me a chance to reply because he was already tying it around my eyes.
"Alright we'll be there in around 30-45 minutes, sit back and relax" he told me, placing a nice hand on my thigh, giving me slight chills.
"Yeah yeah yeah." I grumbled, closing my eyes behind the blind fold.
-------------------
"Ok Mama Mia, we're here." He finally spoke after we've been stopped somewhere for about 15 minutes.
I couldn't see but I could hear Nix opening and closing doors while we were stopped.
My door was opened and he scooped me up carrying me to his trunk I presume and setting me on something super soft.
He finally yanked off the bandana and what I seen took my breath away.
Amazingly tall trees that seemed to touch the sky surrounded us.
We were on what seemed to be like a cliff in a woodsy area , sitting in Phoenix's Range Rover trunk on top of a whole bunch of warm blankets , surrounded by snacks.
The stars were something I've never seen, unless I went camping somewhere totally off the grid, which was very rare. There was so many. They all twinkled individually and provided a source of light. They all seemed like they had individual personalities as they danced in front my eyes.
"This is magical" I whispered to myself before turning to Nix who was right besides me.
"Like you?" He replied cheesily, making me give him a light slap to the arm.
"This really is amazing you know. Like really really really-" I was cut off when our lips met.
I melted into his kiss right away and it lasted for a few minutes I presume before it turned hungry.
He gently layed me down , never breaking the kiss, except for maybe some air that was needed.
"I love you" he gasped out and i nodded.
"More than your favorite sweater?" I joked.
"Maybe" he smiled, going back to the kiss.

Apollyon's Curse
Within the pages of folklore and fantasy, tales of people who chase after the dream of eternity, of living forever, rarely find a happy ending. They are either struck by the grim truth of reality, give up, and return to mortality or face a ghastly realization of their wishes. The latter often the worse fate, as they come to realize, only far too late, that what they sacrificed was worth far more than the time they gained. Ultimately, the common thread in these stories is that “immortality is as much a curse as it is a blessing”. People either realize it early and give up or are doomed to inevitably face its consequences. In the world Enrich lives in, that saying does hold merit. Every pathway towards eternal life has shackles of its own. They bring those high above down to the ground, evening the playing field. It is thanks to these fundamental laws that ambitious mortals are able to defy the heavens and achieve immortality themselves. The variety of methods result in each of these bindings varying in intensity and degree of freedom. Enrich’s path doesn't break this trend. Though, after what he did to himself, most wouldn’t even consider him a living thing anymore. On the day of his ascension, a world’s worth of souls were melted and recast. On that day, the human’s path had reached its conclusion, recast into Apollyon. An artifact, a weapon, is eternal, after all. As for the curse? The payment will be made, as it must. So why not offload the curse to someone else? Mortals throw their lives away for all manner of petty reasons, noble or otherwise, especially in desperation. Eventually, someone will be willing to foot the bill. Most will if given the chance. The bait is far too tempting, after all. Power, status, knowledge. All at their fingertips. If only they say “yes”. And Apollyon is very willing to help any lost souls. If they give up everything in return, of course.
