"Dr. James! Her heart rate is dropping and she struggling to breath."
"Dr. James! Her heart rate is dropping and she struggling to breath."
That kept replaying in my head as Bri was laying in the bed gasping for air. I immediately thought the worse as our previous conversation started to replay in my head. That's not the first time she's mentioning that topic. It's like ever since she became pregnant her delivery outcome has weighed heavy on her mind. I understood why. She's black woman and the complications women endure during childbirth is ridiculous. They're often unheard, ignored, or looked over. So yes I understood the talk but that doesn't mean I'm not sacred. Brielle said no matter how much we trusted Dr. James we needed to be prepared for anything that happens.
Panic was starting to seep threw me as the nurses moved around the room frantically. I had to close my eyes and take a deep breath so I wouldn't have a panic attack. I haven't had one in years but the way I'm feeling right now? I'm bound to pass out soon.
"Uh uh! Keep yo eyes open muffin." Dakari tapped her face lightly and her eyes fluttered.
A nurse stepped in front of me and pulled a oxygen mask over her face. Her heart started to rise and I sighed in relief cause whew. If I'm assuming correctly Brielle is experiencing perinatal asphyxia. She's failing to inhale and release air. That's the reason she was gasping for air because she wasn't receiving none.
"Bri can you hear me?" Dr. James asked as she was still between her legs. I still can't believe we're having twins. I mean I knew it was a possibility because her stomach was just too big for just one baby. I wonder how the hell Dr. J never saw the other baby.
My baby nodded her head weakly as she gripped my hand. It wasn't as tight as before but it was tight enough to ease my mind.
"Ok Bri we have to get baby 2 out ASAP! I need a big push from you but if you think it's too much we can do a emergency c-section."
I looked at baby and she shook her head rapidly. I knew exactly why. Brielle doesn't want to deal with the complications after the c-section and sometimes c-sections aren't needed. Hospitals will do anything for the bottom line.
"Alright on three I need a big push. One, two, and three."
I held her hand as she pushed with all her might. I heard my baby's cry and I started crying.

"ITS GIRL!"
I pushed Bri's braids out her face and kissed her all over. "You did it mama. You did it."
She cuffed my face and smiled weakly as tears streamed down her face.
"Alright dad! Since you couldn't cut the first cord, would you like the honors of doing this one?"
I nodded and grabbed the scissors cutting the cord correctly. I smiled through the tears as my baby hollered. God really blessed me with two princesses and a queen to spoil. I am forever thankful. I went back to Brielle's bedside and grabbed her hand. She opened her eyes and just looked at me. My baby was so tired. She pushed out not one, but two babies with no drugs. She's built different. I don't think we were having anymore kids though cause this was too much for me. The doctor didn't say anything but I know I could've lost her today.
Since she was having difficulty breathing so was the baby.
"Alright parents. We're going to get the babies all cleaned up and tested while we move you guys upstairs."
"We would like a room in the VIP wing." I heard Dakari say as he followed a nurse out the room.
It's been about two hours since we've been upstairs and Brielle has been sleep ever since. I was sitting in the chair with my shirt off along with both babies in my arms. Since they couldn't get skin to skin contact with Bri, I had to do it. I am still in awe that we had twins. Like I got two more ladies to boss me around and I'm ready. I pray fatherhood is good to me.
I smiled at Princess A as she moved around in my arm. Her sister opened her eyes and I bit my lip as the tears rolled down. God I thank you. They were nameless at the moment because I wanted to wait until baby was woke. We already had Princess A's name but I knew adjustments were about to be made.
"Amari!"
My head shot up at the sound of Brielle's voice. "Press the nurses button mama."
I eased out of the chair and placed both babies down. I made sure their pacifiers were in their mouths before I moved to her bedside. I cuffed Bri's face. "How you feeling mama?"
She pulled her mask off. "Tired. Overwhelmed. Blessed. I thought I wasn't going make it Amari."
I saw the tears welled up in her eyes. She moved her head side to side and before I knew it, she was in full blown tears. My heart just cracked.
"When it was becoming difficult to breath my chest was so tight I felt like I was about to pass out. I was fighting so hard to keep my eyes open."

I removed my shoes and climbed in the bed. Her head fell right in my chest and she just cried. I wrapped my arms around her and placed my chin on top of her head. We cried together because it was truly scary. I know she told me to choose the baby over her, well in this sense babies, but I don't think I could have. I would've fought for all three. Everybody was going to make it, if it was left up to me.
The nurse walked in but once she saw the predicament we were in, she mouthed that she'll be back. I nodded and hugged my baby tighter. God thank you.
"Hey hey, look at me mama." She was starting to hyperventilate. I pulled her from my chest.
"Come on mamas. You gotta breath." I coached as she tried to make her breathing steady.
"Bitch get the fuck out his face! He don't want you! We trying to see our sister and our nieces!"
Bri and I both looked at each and busted out laughing as we heard Kailani's voice outside the door.
"Oh god. Go get her Cameron."
I shook my head and slid out the bed slipping my shirt back on before opening the door. I popped my head out the door and saw everybody including my parents. I knew Dakari and Mama Ash said they was going to get everybody but dang. "Y'all just come on. Y'all names already on the list."
Everybody looked my way and Kailani bucked at the nurse. "See bitch, you need to listen and do your job instead of trying to flirt with my man. Fucked up ass lace front and here's my card by the way, you should inquire about my services."
I bit my lip to conceal my laugh as Dakari hit her upside her head. "Girl stop being ghetto and come on."
I shook my head as they went back and forth. I held the door open as everybody piled in. I let the door close and retreated back to Bri's beside as they placed the balloons and gifts alongside the walls. I pressed the nurses button, so they can get her situated before she got up moving around.
"Hi mom!" The nurse walked in and grabbed her chart.
"I just wanna check your vitals and I'll be back in the morning for the basics. I'll let you enjoy your family." The nurse checked her vitals as said and replaced her IV bag with a new one and she also turned the oxygen down.
"Alright you're good to go. I'll see you in the morning but if you think you need me before that, just pressed the button. And congratulations to you both on your bundles of joy. Somebody will be down in a few so you guys can sign the birth certificate and name the babies."
"Thank you!" Bri and I spoke simultaneously.
"How you feeling baby?" Our parents asked her as I inclined the bed to sit her up.
"The feeling is hard to describe but I'm here. My babies are here and healthy. That's all that matters."
I smiled to myself because if only they knew.
"Cam here go them boxes you asked for." Dakari set the boxes on the table. Trey and Jabari don't even know what's coming to them.
I looked at Bri and she nodded her head.
"Bari and Trey, we got a question for y'all. Both of you take a box." I told them and they both looked at each before standing.
They ripped the boxes open and looked at us with wide eyes.
"Ahhh! Stop playing with me!" Jabari was the first to scream as he pulled his hoodie all the way over his head—hiding his face.
Trey looked at us. "Are you guys serious?"
Bri and I nodded our heads. "Yes. We want you guys to be their godfathers. Before we knew about the other baby, we were going to ask you both any but now it's convenient. You both get a baby."
"I hate you both cause y'all got me crying." Jabari sniffed.
I shook my head and rolled the babies to Bri's bedside and she started crying. "Oh my god. Hi mamas babies."
"Oh my god." Everybody in the room gushed.
"Oooo Zaire gonna have his hands full running up behind them and Toot."
I busted out laughing because Mama Ash was right. It's him against three and they're all a year apart.
"What's their names?"
"Princess A's name is Amaria Jalani Hayes. She's named after me. Her middle name is from Kailani and Jabari and she has the purple pacifier in her mouth." I spoke because that was the name we had already agreed on.
"Now for baby 2? Is up to Bri. I wanted to wait until she was up."
Bri looked at the babies and gasped. "They're almost identical but baby 2 name is going to be Airelle Loreleí Hayes. Loreleí comes from Keria's and Trey's middle names, Laura and Lorenzo. And of course she's the one with with the pink pacifier."
I smiled as I stared at Brielle. I just know Nerrick is proud of me.
