《My Overprotective Brothers》Chapter 5

Amber's P.O.V
Bedrest sucks!
Don't get me wrong, I love staying in bed for hours and suffocating myself in lots and lots of fluffy blankets and blackout the harsh world that I have been born into.
But...when you have a VERY protective family that never leave your sight for a split second and are constantly pestering you with: "Are you okay Ambi?" "Do you need this..." "Do you need that..." It gets quite annoying after a while.
I honestly think I'm fine and could've gone back to school today, but my brothers were adamant that I need to "let my little toes rest" for a few days.
Right now, I'm lying down on the couch with Dylan painting my toes red and Grey preparing us some lunch in the kitchen, the smells from the kitchen were drifting to the lounge and making me and Dylan's mouth water with anticipation, I look down and see Dylan closing his eyes and inhaling the sweet scent from the kitchen.
"Whatever Grey is concocting up in that kitchen, I need and I need it now!" Dylan says keeping his eyes closed, I lean my head back on the thousand pillows that are propping me up and inhaling the wonderful scent that is doing wonders for my nasal passages.
"I hope my princess and my bro are hungry!" Grey shouts in an excited tone.
"YES YES! GIVE IT TO ME!" Dylan screams and jumps up and down on the couch like a kid getting a new toy but making my body go up and down in the process, I groan from the pressure in my ribs and Grey hits Dylan's head.
"Dude be careful with kitten! She is still so fragile" Grey scolds Dylan, Dylan gets up and gives me a big hug.
"I'm so sorry angel I forgot you're still so sore!" Dylan coos in my ear and rubs the side of my chest, I relax in his hold and feel the soothing tingles that are travelling down my spine and soothing my pain.
"It's okay Dylan, you're forgiven," I whisper and give him one last squeeze before we pull away and devour whatever Grey has cooked us.
"Okay this is a new recipe of mine, I want you to try it before I say what it is," Grey said whilst handing me and Dylan a bowl each with a big excited grin on his face.

"I pray to the lord that this doesn't poison me!" Dylan exclaims whilst eyeing the red liquidly substance in front of us.
The bowl contained a steamy red liquid with some unknown small chunks floating and dancing around the spoon. I take the spoon and fill it with the soupy substance and shove it in my mouth sloppily.
"You really make eating look attractive kitten," Grey said whilst laughing at my sloppiness.
As soon as the liquid invaded my taste buds, the immediate tangy sweetness awakens my senses and I look up at Grey with love in my eyes. "Oh my gosh this tastes amazing Grey!" I said whilst stirring the liquid with my spoon.
"Grey this is one of your best! What actually is it?" Dylan said whilst taking another spoonful.
"Well, I call it fruity broth!" Grey exclaims, Dylan sprays out the broth and spits it all over Grey's face.
"Eww what the fuck is broth? The word sounds ugly as fuck!" Dylan squeals whilst flailing his arms dramatically like the broth burned his insides.
"Dylan don't be mean it tastes good! But isn't broth supposed to have meat in it?" I ask Grey. Grey wipes off Dylan's spit on the front of his apron and turns to me.
"Yes, it is but I wanted to try something new to add to my recipe book that I'm making, it has strawberry and blackberry in it, I know it sounds weird and something that you haven't heard before, but I want to explore my options and make a dent in the food industry with my unique creations," Grey said whilst sending daggers to Dylan at the end, Dylan looked down at Grey with an apologetic look and gave it another try.
"I'm sorry bro, the word 'Broth' just freaked me out, it actually tastes really good!" Dylan said whilst shoving his face with more food.
I continue to eat and occasionally look up to see Grey's proud and chuffed face while he watches me eat his newest creation.
Grey has always had a passion for food and he's always making weird but tasty dishes for all the family to try, he graduated from college with a catering degree and is aspiring to be a chef one day. Grey has won over all our hearts with his food and Grey has made me his 'Main taste tester' when making his dishes.

All thoughts were interrupted when the door slams open and a distressed looking Isaac runs through and closes it harshly, Dylan and I rip our eyes away from our food and look in his direction when Isaac makes eye contact with me, his eyes immediately soften and he strolls over in my direction casually.
"How is my princess holding up?" Isaac says whilst rubbing my shoulders and giving me a massage, I roll my eyes back in bliss and answer with a "Better" then closed my eyes at the good feeling.
"Whilst Amber has gotten over her high, you can try Grey's broth." Dylan exclaims and tickles my feet, I open my eyes and send him playful daggers whilst mouthing 'Hate you' and continue eating my food messily.
"Broth? That's a new one Grey." Isaac says whilst sitting down next to my legs and snatches Dylan's bowl off of him.
"Hey get your own! I wasn't finished!" Dylan screams dramatically and throws a mini tantrum and folds his arms and hangs his head low, I chuckle at Dylan then turn my eyes to watch Isaac's reaction to the food.
"Bro this is one of your best!" Isaac says with his mouth full of the liquid, Grey furrows his brows in disgust at Isaac's poor manners but still has a happy smile on his face.
"Well I'm glad you all like it, I'm going to write this recipe down in my super secret diary!" He fake giggles whilst dashing up the stairs dramatically, trying to impersonate Dylan. I roll my eyes at all my brother's antics.
"I DON'T ACT LIKE THAT!" Dylan screams back at Grey.
I look down at Isaac and see some blood stains on his sleeve, I look up at his face to see that he is totally oblivious to me and is happily slurping up the soup directly from the bowl. I sit up more and tug on his sleeve to see more, I was shocked when I saw that there were streaks of thick crimson blood running from his wrist all up his arm as if he only washed his hands quickly and forgot about the remaining blood.
Isaac stopped eating and turned to me, he saw what I saw and we shared a moment of just staring into each other's eyes, knowing exactly what each other is thinking but not uttering a word.
"Please don't say anything ambi," Isaac whispered whilst getting up and walking up the stairs swiftly.
I have known for a while now that Isaac has been getting into loads of fights at this secret underground club that he goes to, not many people know about this club and from what Isaac has revealed to me, you need to have a pass or be a known regular to the owners. Isaac is a well-known regular that has frequent fights with men that are triple his size, I don't know the full extent of why he fights but from what I think, it is to do with earning money for something I do not know.
Nobody in the house knows about his fighting and it's only me that knows about it, I only found out because I was getting a glass of water one night and Isaac snuck in through the side window of the kitchen coated in blood and dark purple bruises, I confronted him and after ten minutes of begging and promises to keep quiet, he finally told me.
I hate the fact that he is voluntarily putting himself through this pain and torture just to earn a bit of money, it's sick and I've tried to convince him over and over again but he still doesn't listen to me and he keeps doing it.
I wake up some mornings finding my makeup bag open and all its contents scattered across my sink in the bathroom, Isaac obviously uses my concealer and foundation to cover up the noticeable bruises on his face whenever he has been in his fights. It makes me so sad when I walk in and see all my make up scattered, knowing who did it and why they did.
I found it weird that he had a fight at half-two when all the kids are out in the area, and not at midnight when he normally sneaks out.
I ponder that thought when I look over at Dylan to see that he has switched the TV on and is watching Dance Moms and trying to copy the kids dance routine, I laugh and start to join in with him, but of course that only lasts one second because as soon as I go to shake my hip, immediate pain shoots through me and I lie back in defeat and decide to just watch Dylan.
Stupid Jade and her posse of bullies!

Shadowrun: Blake Island School of Magic
It's a high tech, low life. It's the Seattle Metroplex in 2074. It rises like a steel and concrete cancer out of the earth. Poverty is rampant, corruption is everywhere, crime is out of control, corporations basically control everything, the old United States is fractured, magic has come back and now it turns out that humanity has been joined by elves, dwarves, orks and trolls. The old world ended but the rent is still due. Life goes on. You'd be surprised what people can adapt to, especially if they don't have a choice. One of the places where life goes on is just west of Seattle. Surrounded by the waters of the Puget Sound is an island. On that island is the Blake Island School of Magic. A decade ago it was known for producing some of the most talented awakened in the world. That reputation was hijacked by the wealthy corporate elite who now park their teenage children there. And since it's a boarding school, their parents mostly forget about them. Three young people, who are certainly not wealthy or elite, are chosen this year to attend this school of magic in hopes of revitalizing their reputation for talent. One from the ash drifts of the Puyallup Barrens, one from the most densely populated slum hive in the world and one from prison. This is their story. -- This story is set in the Shadowrun universe. If you're not familiar with Shadowrun, it mostly tells the stories of deniable mercenaries called shadowrunners in a cyberpunk dystopia. Instead of telling another story solely about shadowrunners, this story will tell the tale of young people navigating a world that is indifferent to them at best and actively hostile at worst. Shadowrunners will be in the story and we'll see them operate, but they won't be its main focus. This story originally began in 2017 as a passion project and continues to this day on the Somethingawful.com forums. The unedited version is over a million words strong. There are currently seven books in this series and I am currently in the process of editing them.
