Ariana sniffled sadly to herself because, for the first time in her life, she felt utterly alone. Even while surrounded by people. Matt drove with a stony expression on his face to one side of her and Elena had a heart-to-heart with Damon on her right. It was tragic, everything that was happening now and Ariana was only fueled by Elena's sadness. The twins were still more connected now than ever before... Even when they hated one another the most.
"Can I speak to him?" Ariana wondered aloud to her sister, not looking at her. After all, this was all their fault. But she knew, if she didn't forgive them now, she may never get the chance again. She wasn't one to hold that much of a vendetta. Elena relented, passing over her phone in a shaking hand to one identical to it. "Damon"
"Ari" he sighed in content. Because somehow, he knew this was her voice. It didn't matter that it was practically identical to Elena's... This was Ariana. Hearing her voice was all that he needed to lift his spirits even slightly.
"I just wanted to say... I'm sorry Damon. And I really do appreciate everything you have done for me. I truly do. I wish you could understand how much of an impact you have had on me. And... whatever happens next, I need you to know... I love you Damon" she smiled as the tears dribbled, she didn't love him in the way that Elena did, they all knew that. But Ariana's love was a different kind of love, a more powerful love maybe. It was because of that love that she could forgive him now, despite what he had contributed to.
"I love you too Ariana. You aren't the one who needs to apologise. I was never the good guy in this town and for me to cause what I've caused for Klaus... it's quite hypocritical of me, I know that. I've been selfish Ari, with you and with Elena but you deserved love, even if it was with a crazed homicidal vampire hybrid."

"I know what he is Damon, I have always known. He killed aunt Jenna, he killed my twin sister and almost killed my brother. But somehow... I can't help but forgive him. It's as if my love for him was unconditional. I don't know if I will ever find a love like that again but I don't blame you for it because I know he deserved it in your eyes. It's funny because... It doesn't quite feel over, there's still hope in me now even as I know you've seen his body burn. We haven't had time yet Damon... I wasted so long being this burden... All I wanted was to be with him... The right way."
"I know Ari, and I'm sorry"
"I know Damon." she sighed, a smile ghosting on her features for the first time that evening. "Goodbye Damon... I'll see you soon. We'll all be okay"
"See you soon Ari"
A phone call with Caroline later and they were all still sat in silence in Matts truck on the lonely road to Mystic Falls.
"What now?"
"It's Tyler... he, um..he's" Elena grumbled out and Ariana knew what Elena was going to say... Almost as though she could read her thoughts.
"Damn it" they could visibly see Matt's heart shatter. Up until then, it hadn't mattered so much to him. Of course, he was upset because they were upset but now he knew it impacted him too. Lives were being taken all around them and there was nothing they could do but sit and watch them fall. "Damn it, Damn it, Damn it" he angrily slammed the steering wheel in a fit of grief that cracked the twin's hearts as they clutched on to one another.
"Matt, no, stop it" Elena begged.
"This isn't how our lives were supposed to be, Elena," he informed, smiling sadly at Ariana. He was glad that she at least got to see Klaus' face once before he died. Even if Klaus was a murderer and maniac, she deserved better than to see her lover die.

"I need to call Stefan but my phone is dying" Elena grumbled as she looked at the lit-up screen. Ariana's phone was absolutely no help seeing as though it was still set up for the blind.
"Matt, look out!" Ariana couldn't help but scream as she saw a person standing in the road. She didn't recognise her but that was no surprise because she didn't recognise anyone. Matt swerved in a maneuver that could only cause pain, their truck went flying over the barrier of wickery bridge, replaying Elena's worst nightmare as darkness rushed all around them.
