"When--" I said but Marcus interuppted me.

"I think the universe doesn't want me to play the match. Like what the fuck?" Marcus shouted and hit the steering wheel in anger and I flinched then turned to glare at Marcus.

He saw me then ran his fingers through his hair. "Sorry Baby cheeks."

I nodded and continued my conversation with Aaliyah,"When is the match starting?" I asked.

"In thirty minutes," she replied and my eyes widened as I looked at Marcus. "Coach is pulling his hair out because Marcus isn't there. Is he with you?"

"Yeah, we are actually stuck in traffic," I said and stared at the kid in the car in front of us. A little girl, long brown hair tied in two pigtails. She waved at Marcus. Marcus slowly smiled and waved back, making me smile.

"Oh, I'll tell the coach. He's asking everyone where The Sawyer is," she said with a chuckle.

"Okay bye," I said.

"Bye." Aaliyah hung up and I dropped my phone. Marcus was impatiently tapping his fingers on the wheel, stressing out that he'd miss out on the match. I held his free hand and intertwined with mine,"Don't worry we'll make it in time."

"No we're fucking won't, there's twenty-nine mintutes and it looks like we're going to be stuck here for an hour," Marcus said, frustrated.

I bit my lip and looked away,"I'm sorry."

Marcus chuckled,"Why are you apologising?"

"To make you feel better," I replied and then paused when I heard a familiar song playing in the radio. Marcus rolled his eyes and stared out the window, still thinking about the game.

I turned up the volume, hearing Please Me by Cardi B and Bruno Mars. I started moving my body to the song, clapping my hands.

I was doing this because I wanted Marcus to stop stressing just for a few minutes and sing with me. I missed his singing voice.

Marcus stared at me with a smile on his face when I started rapping Cardi B's part of the song. Marcus started slowly moving his head to the beat as he stared at me with an amused look.

"I'm gonna ride it

Do it just how you like it tonight

And after that, let's do it one more time," I sang, clapping my hands to the beat of the song. I looked at Marcus,"Get ready to sing the chorus."

Marcus laughed and I nudged him, "Come on."

Marcus started singing the chorus with me and I put the volume on higher, to the point the car started vibrating. We both were singing loudly as I was pretty sure that we were being stared at from people in other cars.

Marcus laughed and I shook my head, smiling too. After that, more songs started playing but we had turned down the volume, singing lightly to ourselves. "Hey baby, there's a hoodie in my sports bag. Just take it out," Marcus said and I smiled, excited.

I turned around and opened Marcus' sports bag, taking out the hoodie. I stared at it, Sawyer's Heart was written in a nice font in black while the hoodie was yellow. "Aww, Sawyer's Heart," I repeated and grinned. "Can I wear it?"

"Yeah. But if you're going to change here, just go to the bac--" Marcus said but paused when I pulled my hoodie over my head, taking it off. I wore the one that Marcus gave me and looked at my reflection with my phone.

Sawyer's Heart was written at the back of the hoodie, not too big but big enough to be noticed. "Thank you, Marcus." I smiled then pecked his cheek. I looked down at my sneakers, noticing they were navy blue which did not match with the hoodie for me.

"There's sneakers in the bag too," Marcus said and I looked at him wide eyed.

"I love you," I chuckled and took out the sneakers which were black. I wore them after taking the navy ones off.

Fifteen minutes left and we had only moved an inch. Marcus was also stressing. He had been receiving many calls and texts from people that were probably going to ask where he was.

Marcus and I got out the car and rushed to the school's field. And we were ten minutes late. "Hurry." Marcus held my hand and urged me to run faster. I did, and I caught up with Marcus.

As soon as we entered the field, all eyes were on us. People sitting on the bleachers cheered seeing us or probably because of Marcus. All the players that were about to play were already standing in their formation.

We ran to the bench where the substitutes were sitting on and placed the sports bag there. The coach glared at Marcus though he looked relieved. "Sawyer, get your butt on that field before I dispose of your existence," the coach said through gritted teeth.

"I'm sorry, Coach," he said. I sat on the bench and he bent down to my level and kissed me. "I love you," he whispered, smiling.

"I love you too." I smiled with him.

Marcus turned around and ran onto the field, standing in his place. The referee blew the whistle and the match started. Everyone was already screaming and cheering Marcus' name. I was sitting with substitutes, one player I recognised as Malcolm.

"Hey," I greeted with a warm smile.

"Hey," he said not looking at me though, he was focused on the match.

"How come you're not playing?" I asked.

"I want to play the second half," he replied still not looking at me.

"Okay..." I narrowed my eyes, looking away. I looked at Marcus as he played. He ran with the ball and kicked it through the opposing player's legs. Sam got the ball and passed it to Kendall, both of them staying close to eachother.

Obviously.

"Go Marcus!" I shouted and I saw Marcus turn to me and smiled. I chuckled then started hearing cheers of the opposing school. They were on the other side of the field, cheering and holding up posters.

I squinted my eyes and noticed there was a girl also sitting on the bench with the substitutes. I decided to go talk to her so I stood up and walked over to their side. The coach was busy staring at his players to notice me leave.

I made it to the other side and noticed they were screaming: Bryce! Bryce! Bryce!

He was probably the player the coach was talking about. I looked at the girl and she noticed me, smiling back. "Hi," she greeted. She wore black glasses, a white tee and black pants. Her hair tied into a ponytail. "Do you want something?" she asked with slightly furrowed eyebrows.

I shook my head,"Just came to greet you since I saw you sitting with the substitutes like me," I joked.

"Yeah, my boyfriend wanted me to sit here," she replied with an eye roll.

"I can relate." I chuckled and she laughed with me. I found this was the perfect time to introduce myself, "My name is Alyssa." I held out my hand.

"Val," she said and shook my hand.

I nodded,"Is it short for Valerie or something?"

"Nope, just Val," she said and I nodded. "Who's the player that everyone is talking about?" I asked and sat next to her.

"It's probably Bryce." she pointed at the guy running with the ball. "He's my boyfriend."

I smiled and looked at the Bryce guy, running beside Sam who had the ball.

Then Sam passed to some other player I didn't know, nearing the goal area. The player kicked the ball to the net but the opposing goalkeeper jumped and caught the ball, making our school groan. Marcus shook his head and sighed, jogging back.

"Is that guy there... Marcus Sawyer?" Val asked, pointing to Marcus.

I nodded,"He also wanted me to sit with the subs to 'get closer to the action' ," I said with a chuckle.

"Bryce said the exact same thing, you'd swear those two are related," Val chuckled and I smiled. "So... is he your boyfriend?"

"Yeah," I replied and looked down at my sneakers. "How you guys meet? If you don't mind me asking."

Val smiled and chuckled lightly to herself,"If I told you... you'd think I'm insane."

"What? You guys met in separate hot air balloons," I said randomly making Val laugh.

"If only it were that simple. Anyway... I think your coach wants you back there," Val said and I looked at coach who was waving his hands in the frantically.

"We've got an enemy in our territory," some guy said to the crowd and everyone looked at me.

"Quit it, Alex. She's a friend," Val said and gave me a small smile.

"A pretty cute friend," another guy said to me and I smiled at him.

"Thanks."

"Katherine won't approve of your behaviour, Mordecai," Val grinned and his eyes widened.

"I was kidding," he said quickly and I gasped dramatically.

"So I'm not pretty cute?" I joked with a serious face.

Mordecai turned to me,"You are, most certainly."

"What? I'm going to tell Katherine about this," Val joked as well. Alex laughed at Mordecai. I had assumed that Katherine was Mordecai's girlfriend.

"What a fucking idiot," Alex commented and Mordecai glared at him.

"I'm going to leave before everything escalates," I said and backed away. "Bye guys!"

"Bye!" Val smiled while Alex nodded at me. Mordecai winked at me and I rolled my eyes with a smile plastered on my face. I turned around and returned to the other side of the field.

"Really?" The coach exclaimed. "You never go to the enemies."

"I'm sorry, coach." I raised my hands up in defence. "I tried to receive some secret information on their best player: Bryce," I lied.

"Oh." the coach nodded. "Well... okay then."

I shook my head, smiling to myself as I sat down with the substitutes. I got a bit bored but everytime Marcus had the ball, I would pay attention and cheer him on with the audience.

It was finally half-time and some people left the bleachers to buy food for themselves while I walked up to Marcus on the field with his sports bag. He was panting and kind of looked stressed. "Marcus, you looked and played great," I said, slightly smirking.

"Yeah, I know." Marcus panted and I narrowed my eyes at him. "What? If you said it then it must be true," Marcus said and I chuckled.

I gave him a bottle of water and sat next to him. "Do you want me to buy anything for you to eat?" I asked.

Marcus nodded,"Yeah, but I don't want to eat too much. We're about to play again in twenty mintutes."

"Hot dog? Burger?" I stood up and dusted the dirt off me.

"Burger," he replied and I nodded.

"I'll be back," I said.

I bought Marcus a burger, fries and soda for us then came back. Marcus and I ate our food by the bleachers and talked. About five minutes until the game started, everyone was already back at their spot. The coach had asked the team to huddle as they discussed some strategies.

"I want you guys to win. Nothing else! I just want to win and shove it in Coach Robert's face that we're better than them," Coach shouted and I raised my eyebrows. "You guys can do this. I believe in you as cliché as it sounds. I'm not only depending on Marcus for this... you're a team. Goodluck!" The coach said and the boys left expect Marcus.

"Marcus, you're my only hope. I depend on you," the coach said making me chuckle. "Though make sure you all work as a team because that is how it works. There's no Marcus in team," Coach said.

"But there is a team in Marcus," Marcus joked and chuckled to himself.

"Marcus, you can joke all you want after you win. Right now, I need you to go to that field and teach Bryce Reynolds a fucking lesson to never mess with us," Coach said and Marcus nodded, a smile still on his face.

"Goodluck guys!" I screamed and the audience cheered too. Marcus smiled and ran to the field, the referee blew the whistle and the match continued.

We all watched, excited when the ball went closer to the goal area then scared when the other team got it. Then Marcus accidentally tripped Bryce making him fall forward. Everyone gasped including me.

"Oh shit!" someone from the audience shouted. Marcus just stared back at Bryce, doing nothing to help him. I thought that was rude of Marcus to do that.

"Marcus!" I shouted and I saw him turn to me. "Apologise." I mouthed and he sighed.

"Whatever sorry," he said.

Bryce shoulder past Marcus, saying nothing. "What the fuck?" Marcus fisted Bryce's tee then Bryce pushed him back. The referee ran between them, pushing Bryce back. I shook my head and bit my lip, debating on whether I should go on that field or not.

The referee seemed to be handling it.

Marcus cursed and backed away. The referee blew the whistle again and they continued with the game. I bet it was because there was ten minutes left which got them stressing. And everyone else too.

"Malcolm, open up!" the coach waved his arm around and Malcolm obeyed.

There was three minutes left and I had to admit I was in shock.

Usually we always won but since we were battling one of the toughest schools, we were still 0 - 0.

"One minute left !" the speaker announced and I clutched the hem of my hoodie tighter.

Marcus and Bryce ran beside eachother. Marcus had the ball and Bryce tried to take it. They started nearing the our goal area.

"Marcus here!" Kendall shouted and Marcus stopped and Bryce ran past Marcus.

Kicking the ball to Kendall, Kendall ran closer to the goal net and the goalkeeper crouched down, ready to catch the ball.

Kendall and Sam kicked the ball to eachother near the goal net and the goal keeper dived to grab the ball but as he did, Kendall simply kicked it into the net.

Everyone screamed in happiness including me. I jumped out of my seat and hugged whoever was beside me.

Coach.

He looked me weirdly and I awkwardly cleared my throat, backing away.

"And that is it! Lockwood High wins the game!" the speaker shouted and we all screamed as we ran onto the field.

Sam and Kendall were picked up by the boys as everyone cheered. I hugged Marcus and he kissed me. "I think you have to apologise to Bryce," I said after I pulled away.

"It was an accident," he defended.

"I don't give flying ducks, Marcus. Apologise to him. You tripped him, accidentally or not," I said and Marcus hesitantly nodded.

We walked to Bryce who was standing with Val. Bryce saw us approach them and he was about to turn around but Val held his tee, making him pause and sigh. Marcus avoided eye contact with Bryce then when I nudged him, he looked at him.

"Sorry for tripping you," Marcus said and shoved his hands in his pockets.

"Hmm. Really? That's all that happened?" Bryce said, eyeing Marcus. Val rolled her eyes.

"And... for what happened back there. It was unprofessional of me," Marcus said and held out his hand for Bryce to shake. Bryce nodded and shook his hand.

"It's cool," Bryce said and I smiled.

"Thank you," Marcus and I said simultaneously.

"To be honest, your team was the toughest team we have ever played against," Bryce said with a smile.

"Same here, dude. For once, I actually was nervous after the first half," Marcus said and I laughed.

"But you both are tough players," Val said.

I agreed. "Anyway, it was nice meeting you guys."

"Yeah. Now if you'll excuse me, we gotta go so that we can listen to coach shout," Bryce said. "Congrats by the way."

"Thanks bye," I said and Marcus nodded. They walked away and we turned around.

"Congratulations, my love," I said as I ruffled his hair playfully and Marcus smiled.
