《Raised by Heroes》Chapter 14

"Vee~" I sighed, relaxing at the camp's hotsprings, I haven't been to this place for days...

"It's already close to the afternoon here, but let me explain in the way Durarara does on what happened to them. Or in short terms, flashback narrating, right?"

I said and looked to Sakura, the author of the story who was typing my words in her mini iPad she waterproofed.

"I'm doing the story here Mika-chan." The pink haired girl with pale blue eyes said while tapping letters in her iPad's keyboard, she then looked up at me and smiles with her left eye only glinting bits yellow from the light of the torches that lit up the area.

"But this is your point of view...So go ahead while I order some items for the fourth wall." She said and continued typing her words in the IPad.

I then looked up to sky to only see gray thunderclouds, I simply frowned but smiled slightly and closed my eyes, letting myself go a little deeper to the warm rock pool.

"So it started few days ago...it was after Percy got claimed..."

After Percy got claimed, he moved to Poseidon cabin and stayed there alone, also almost all the campers avoided him, stayed away from him. Only, I, Luke, Annabeth, and a few campers who still wanted to befriend him. It's been almost one week since the claiming thing happened and in that time, Percy consistently complained to me and Crystal about it. Why can't he act like Batman and brood by himself?

"Because he's Percy." Crystal–who was at the opposite side of the pool, said.

Note her sarcasm.

But what I was more annoyed when someone placed a newspaper near his cabin door when I was wondering around early in the morning. When that guy or girl dissapeared I grabbed it, it was a copy of the New York Daily News, opened to the Metro page. A certain article made me angry, I placed it back and followed the guy and made him apologize to Percy...I did it by beating him up until he said sorry which made Chiron punish me by cleaning the stables with the guy who was now scared as heck. I can be scary like a Yakuza anytime-

"Let's get going to the actual story before I add dyslexic in your Data Mika-chan." The Author said, she was right though so let's get to it, shall we?

Over Long Island Sound, the sky looked like ink soup coming to a boil. A hazy curtain of rain was coming in our direction. When I asked Chiron about it he said that It never rains here unless it's needed but I pointed at the storm. "Then what's that, then?" I asked curiously and he glanced uneasily at the sky. "It'll pass around us. Bad weather always does." He was right since I came here, the few rain clouds I'd seen had skirted right around the edges of the valley whenever I looked up.

But I was worried since this one was huge. Feeling like a tornado or hurricane might come, that won't happen...right?

Looking by the porch. At the volleyball pit, the kids from Apollo's cabin were playing a game against satyrs. Mr.D's twins were walking around in the strawberry fields, making the plants grow which made me impressed. You could say everybody were doing their normal business, but they looked tense.

What was I doing on the porch exactly?

I was playing on a pinochle table with Mr.D in his tiger-striped Hawaiian shirt with his Diet Coke, just as he had on my first day, Chiron in his fake wheel-chair, sitting across the table, and an invisible opponent--a set of cards hovering in the air.

I won the first round making them hand over a gold laurel to me, Mr.D then grumpily called Grover to fetch Percy to discuss something, though I didn't know what they want with him in that time unfortunately.

"So...three of a kind?" I asked when I showed my cards.

"Royal flush!" Mr. D said and showed his cards, "Now hand over the laurel Mikaela" he said making me grumble as I took it off of my head

"My name's Mika, Mr.D" I said to him, frowning when he just shrugged.

"It's okay child, he mispronounces names of every camper all the time" Chiron said patting my shoulder. (?)

I sighed with a nod. I then saw Percy, Crystal and Grover walking towards us. "Well, well," Mr. D said without looking up. "Our little celebrity." As he said that they didn't make a move.

"Come closer," Mr. D said. "And don't expect me to kowtow to you, mortal, just because old Barnacle-Beard is your father." Lightning flashed in the clouds and a rumble of thunder shook the windows. "Blah, blah, blah." Dionysus said to nobody, "But I'll be like: nah to the ah, to the no, no, no..." I mumbled which made the god narrow his eyes in frustration at me then turn back to look Percy and my other friends.

Dionysus scowled. "If I had my way, I'd cause your molecules to erupt into flames Perry. We'd sweep the ashes under the porch and be done with this headache. But Chiron seems to feel this would be against my mission at the accursed camp: to keep you little brats safe from harm."

"Spontaneous combustion is a form of harm, Mr. D" Chiron put in.

"Nonsense," Dionysus said. "Boy wouldn't feel a thing. Nevertheless, I've agreed to restrain myself I'm thinking of turning you into a dolphin instead, sending you back to your father."

"Mr. D—" Chiron warned.

"Oh, all right," Dionysus relented. "There's one more option. But it's deadly foolishness." Dionysus rose, and the invisible player's cards dropped to the table. "I'm off to Olympus for the emergency meeting. If the boy is still here when I get back, I'll turn him into an Atlantic bottlenose. Do you understand? And Perseus Jackson, if you're at all smart, you'll see that's a much more sensible choice than what Chiron feels you must do."

Then all of the playing cards turned into what looked like a credit card or something similar. He snapped his fingers. The air seemed to fold and bend around him. He became a hologram, then a wind, and he was gone, leaving the smell of freshly-pressed grapes lingering behind.

Chiron gave a tired smile and motioned to the chairs next to him and me. "Please, sit." Percy and Grover sat beside Chiron and Crystal was beside me. "Let me guess, the Kelp-head dragged you here because he was lonely even with Grover with him?" I asked Crystal as I placed my cards back on the table. Crystal rolled her eyes at me while Percy protested about it making me snicker.

"Mika," Chiron said and I apologised then quickly kept quiet, he then laid his cards on the table, a winning hand I could have lost since he didn't use on our game.

"Tell me, Child," he said to me. "What did you make of the hellhound?"

Just hearing the name made me almost shudder.

"My hands are shaking just thinking of that mutt." I said raised my slightly shaking hands but I calmed down when Crystal held both of them, Chiron then turned to her and asked the same question "I was surprised and scared when I saw the Hound and Percy on the ground bleeding." My friend answered making the Centaur nod sympathetically at us.

"And you, Percy?" Chiron asked as he turned to look at him, "It also scared me." Percy said, "If Mika hadn't pierced it with a spear, I'd be dead."

"Well you will meet worse, Percy. Far worse, before you're done."

"Done ... with what?"

"Your quest, of course. Will you accept it?"

Me, Percy and Crystal glanced at Grover, who was crossing his fingers.

"Um, sir," Percy asked him, "you haven't told me what it is yet."

Chiron grimaced. "Well, that's the hard part, the details."

Thunder rumbled across the valley making Crystal shiver. The storm clouds had now reached the edge of the beach. Which gave me a sudden thought. "Poseidon and Zeus,"

I thought out loud making everyone look at me. "I suppose they're fighting over something valuable since the storm and sea's getting worse . . . something was actually stolen, right?"

Chiron and Grover exchanged looks.

Chiron sat forward in his wheelchair. "How did you know that?"

My face felt hot, me and my big mouth😔. When I was about to speak, Percy explained instead "Well the weather since Christmas has been weird, like the sea and the sky are fighting. Then I talked to Annabeth, and she'd overheard something about a theft. And ... I've also been having these dreams." He said and I nodded "He's right, on the weather part I mean." I said to Chiron while Grover's eyes lit up.

"I knew it," Grover said.

"Hush, satyr," Chiron ordered.

"But it is Percy's quest!" Grover's eyes were bright with excitement. "It must be!"

"Only the Oracle can determine." Chiron stroked his bristly beard. "Nevertheless, both of you are correct. Percy's father and Zeus are having their worst quarrel in centuries. They are fighting over something valuable that was stolen. To be precise: a lightning bolt."

My blood suddenly ran cold. "You're shitting me...Zeus's Master Bolt is missing, isn't it?"

Chiron nodded, causing me to curse excessively and Crystal to shush me while Percy just laughed nervously. "A what ?" He asked Chiron.

"Do not take this lightly," The Centaur warned. "I'm not talking about some tinfoil-covered zigzag you'd see in a second-grade play. I'm talking about a two-foot-long cylinder of high-grade celestial bronze, capped on both ends with god-level explosives."

"Oh." Percy said while Chiron continued.

"Zeus's master bolt," Chiron said, getting worked up now. "The symbol of his power, from which all other light-ning bolts are patterned. The first weapon made by the Cyclopes for the war against the Titans, the bolt that sheered the top off Mount Etna and hurled Kronos from his throne; the master bolt, which packs enough power to make mortal hydrogen bombs look like firecrackers."

The blood drained from my face that, I was more than aware that many weapons were nothing to laugh at. Seeing the weapons many Servants have fought with whenever there was a type of Singularity, it was scary like looking at Arash's NP for the first time.

"So it got stolen?" Crystal asked Chiron who told her she was right, "By whom?" She asked him again. "By Percy." Our (Crystal, Mika and Percy) mouths fell open.

"At least"—Chiron held up a hand—"that's what Zeus thinks. During the winter solstice, at the last council of the gods, Zeus and Poseidon had an argument. The usual nonsense: 'Mother Rhea always liked you best,' Air disasters are more spectacular than sea disasters,' et cetera. Afterward, Zeus realized his master bolt was missing, taken from the throne room under his very nose. He immediately blamed Poseidon. Now, a god cannot usurp another god's symbol of power directly—that is forbidden by the most ancient of divine laws. But Zeus believes Poseidon convinced a human hero to take it."

And they said sibling fights can't get any worse. (I'm looking at you Karna and Arjuna, jk.)

"But that's crazy!" I said loudly "I mean, we only knew that Greek Mythology isn't a mythology and it actually exists like two weeks ago!" I said and lied.

"And I've never even been to Olympus! Zeus is crazy!" Percy said and I grinned.

"You said it Perce! Lemme here you one more time!" I cheered and when he did, Chiron and Grover glanced nervously at the sky. The clouds were rolling straight over our valley, sealing it in like a coffin lid. I think I did pretty well...hm?

"You doing okay Cris?" I asked when I saw her plant her head on the table, "I'm just thinking why are my friends like this" she said in a muffled voice which almost sounded confusing. "But you still love us like that," I smiled and she stood up straight to lean on both of her elbows palms and smiled "Maybe." She said making me snicker in delight.

"Er, Guys...?" Grover said, referring to me and Percy.

"We don't use the c -word to describe the Lord of the Sky-"

I then interrupted him.

"How about Runt because I recall him being the youngest, but he's also a Playboy- oh! There's also Cheater, and Bakaya-"

"Perhaps paranoid will do, Mika," Chiron suggested while I muttered a 'fine'.

"Continuing on, Poseidon has tried to unseat Zeus before. I believe that was question thirty-eight on the final exam..." He said and expected one of us to remember that question.

"It's something about a golden net..." Crystal guessed. "Poseidon, Hera, and a few other gods trapped Zeus and wouldn't let him out until he promised to be a better ruler, right?" She asked Chiron "Correct," he said. "And Zeus has never trusted Poseidon since. Of course, Poseidon denies stealing the master bolt. He took great offense at the accusation. The two have been arguing back and forth for months, threatening war. And now, Percy has come along—the proverbial last straw." The Centaur teacher explained to us.

"But I'm just a kid!" Percy said almost Persassily.

"Percy," Grover cut in, "if you were Zeus, and you already thought your brother was plotting to overthrow you, then your brother suddenly admitted he had broken the sacred oath he took after World War II, that he's fathered a new mortal hero who might be used as a weapon against you.... Wouldn't that put a twist in your toga?"

"But I didn't do anything. Poseidon—my dad—he didn't really have this master bolt stolen, did he?" Percy asked Chiron who sighed.

"Most thinking observers would agree that thievery is not Poseidon's style. But the Sea God is too proud to try convincing Zeus of that. Zeus has demanded that Poseidon return the bolt by the summer solstice. That's June twenty-first, ten days from now. Poseidon wants an apology for being called a thief by the same date. I hoped that diplomacy might prevail, that Hera or Demeter or Hestia would make the two brothers see sense. But your arrival has inflamed Zeus's temper. Now neither god will back down. Unless someone intervenes, unless the master bolt is found and returned to Zeus before the solstice, there will be war. And do you know what a full-fledged war would look like, Percy?"

"Bad?" Percy guessed.

"Imagine World War One and Two mashed together to make World War Three Ice cream with sprinkles of Chaos and a Cherry from the Hundred Years War." I said which made a few confused.

"It's Bad," Crystal repeated.

"And you, Percy Jackson, would be the first to feel Zeus's wrath." Chiron said and It started to rain. The Volleyball players stopped their game and stared in a stunned silence at the sky. I was furious. Zeus was punishing the whole camp because of one stolen item and he blames it on the kids, he could've just calm down about it...I think I have rights to call him a crazy old man now.

"So I have to find the stupid bolt," Percy said. "And return it to Zeus."

"What better peace offering," Chiron said, "than to have the son of Poseidon return Zeus's property?"

"If Poseidon doesn't have it, where is the thing?"

"I believe I know." Chiron's expression was grim. "Part of a prophecy I had years ago ... well, some of the lines make sense to me, now. But before I can say more, Percy must officially take up the quest. You must seek the counsel of the Oracle."

"Why can't you tell me where the bolt is beforehand?" Percy asked Chiron again

"Well, you would've been too afraid to accept the challenge at first, won't you?" I explained to him and he gulped. "Good reason, but how about you guys?" He said to us.

Grover nodded encouragingly.

"Well it's technically saving the whole world, so yeah." Crystal said.

"What she said," I said simply.

"All right." Percy said, nodding to himself, "It's better than being turned into a dolphin."

"Then it's time you consulted the Oracle," Chiron said and turned to me.

"Mika, go upstairs and lead Percy Jackson to the attic(I asked about it a few nights ago). When you both come back down, assuming Percy is still sane, he and I shall talk more. Crystal, I would like to discuss something to you." He somewhat ordered making me nod and go.
