《Raised by Heroes》Chapter 8

————————————————————————————————————–

I slowly opened my eyes and groaned loudly, I massaged my head slowly as I tried to get my bearings. I looked around and found a lot of beds, a big room and a rack full of medicine on the corner.

"Mika!"

I flinched and found Grover standing next to me and he grinned when he saw me awake,

"Oh, god. I thought you already saw Hades, Percy just woke up almost an hour ago" he said and practically crying tears of joy "Okay, you can stop crying Grover. It's not a big deal" I sad to him. After all, I think I'll be at Ereskigal's place more.

"Not a big deal?!" Grover leaned towards me "You looked almost dead when you were brought here!"

"And you were out cold. So please explain that then." I stated and he blushed embarrassingly at my words "So, how did you know?"

"Annabeth and Will told me; they're campers here. They told me when I woke up." He said and gave me a bowl "Just eat this" he said "It's pudding, it tastes like buttered popcorn."

When I ate he told me that my ankle might be slightly sore and the only thing that was bandaged now were my arms. He also told me we're in a camp named Camp Half-blood.

"Better?" Grover asked.

"Well It tastes good" I grinned at him.

"Can you walk? I don't know if you're ankle's still sore." he asked again.

I just nodded at him and moved my feet from under the blanket, I tried to stand up slowly but I wobbled a bit, but I managed to regain my balance.

"Follow me then" Grover said and he exited the room, which I guess is the infirmary?

When I followed Grover and exited the infirmary, I gasped when I saw the camp's scenery. It looked as though they were on the northern shore of Long Island, the ocean water reaching right up to the valley a mile away. I couldn't imagine that Camp Half Blood will be this beautiful. But something was wrong, I could sense it, the aura of this camp, it felt a bit tense, like waiting for something to happen. I shrugged the feeling and followed Grover, some of the campers noticed me and began to whisper.

"Ignore them" Grover said and he kept walking.

"Percy, Crystal and Mr. Brunner are waiting for you in the Big House"

"Percy? He's already up? How about Crystal?" I asked a little bit surprised.

"Percy woke up not too long ago and Crystal just has minor injuries. She waited for me, you and Percy to wake up instead of looking around camp." Grover answered.

I sighed in relief when I learned that they are okay.

While walking I looked around, it was beautiful to say the least.

Dotting the landscape were buildings that resemble ancient Greek architecture, their white marble columns sparkling in the war sunlight. I could see an open-air pavilion, an amphitheater, and a circular arena. In a nearby sandpit, a dozen high-school aged kids and a few satyrs were playing volleyball. Canoes glided across a small lake, almost everyone there was wearing bright orange t-shirts like the one Grover currently had on.

A bunch of younger kids chased each other around a cluster of cabins nestled in the woods. Some shot targets at an archery range, which reminded me that I needed to practice my archery again since I never held my bow for a long time.

Other kids rode horses down a wooded trail, some of which seemed to be pegasi.

If only I can ride them...maybe I can?

Down on the bottom porch of what looks like a big house, two men sat across from each other at a card table. The blond-haired girl from before was leaning on the porch rail next to them, looking bored, contemplative and angry all at once.

The man facing her was small, but rather porky. He had a red nose, big watery eyes, and curly hair so black it was almost purple. He looked almost like those paintings of roman love gods, cherubs I think. He wore a tiger-pattern Hawaiian shirt.

However, I knew just from looking at him that he was much more than just some chubby guy. I felt the power coming off the guy like the times when I saw Artemis and Orion; Eurayle and her sisters plus some others back in Chaldea.

"That's Mr. D," murmured Grover right next to me. "He's the camp director. Just please be polite." He said, I guess 'D' means Dionysus...Why do I feel like singing in Korean suddenly?

"The girl, that's Annabeth Chase. she's just a camper, but she's been here longer than just about anybody. And you already know Chiron..."

I looked at the sight of the wheel-chaired man.

The one who had trained Heracles, Jason, Castor, Asclepius, Achilles...it was Chiron–well not my teacher Chiron–but still.

I also saw Percy and Crystal in front of the wheel-chaired Centaur, and they looked confused. Percy then spoke, "Who are you Chiron? Who...who are we?" He said, referring to himself and Crystal. Hehehe.

"You, are the son of Adam; Crystal, the daughter of Eve. I am the daughter of neither, for I come from Narnia all mighty! Hail Aslan, the king of the jungle!!" I said the joke proudly while Grover stifled a laugh. Both Percy and Crystal turned towards me, Percy's lips formed a smile while Crystal just gasped as they ran over me.

"Mika!" They both called and gave me a hug.

I stopped mid track when they hugged me the same time, I didn't expect that. I mean, I knew they're glad to see me alive, but is this really necessary? I didn't want to spread some stupid rumour on my first day in here.

"Guys, ah..." I said slowly and pushed him a bit "People are watching"

Percy punched my arm while Crystal just frowned

"You're like a sister to me" "I'm not into you that way"

I scratched the back of my neck "I know, I know. But I think these people don't-"

"So your already up, Mika" I saw Chiron trotted to me and showed a relaxed smile, I mentally sighed. I grinned at him and waved my hand.

"Anyways, Percy." He said and the said person turned his head to him.

"Your question...Well, that's the question we all want answered, isn't it? But for now, we should get you and Crystal in cabin eleven. There'll be s'mores at the campfire tonight and I simply adore chocolate." Who doesn't? (**)

Chiron then turned to Annabeth and she looked at him,

"Annabeth, why don't you give Percy and Crystal a tour and show them to were they'll be staying? I want to talk with Mika here, privately." Annabeth nodded and she also sent a nod at me so I sent one back in return. She then grabbed both Crystal and Percy by their arms and dragged them away from me, Grover, Mr.D and Chiron.

"Mika, this is Mr. D, the Head of the Camp" Chiron said as he referred to the man who held some pinochle cards. "Dionysius, the god of wine" I said and mentally slapped myself, crap, me and my big mouth.

Mr. D eyes lightened up a bit "So, a brat knew me huh?"

"How did you know?" Chiron asked me surprised.

"Um, from the clothes, the colour of the eyes, I saw satyrs, the bottle of the wine and a glass of water. I mean, you can't drink wine because I guess Zeus forbid you to drink wine in here, it's bad influence for the kids in this camp after all" I explained.

"Who's your godly parent again?" Mr. D asked.

"I..." I said but Chiron told him instead, "She's a clear-visioned mortal Mr. D" he said and the god just waved his hand lazily "Name?"

"Mika Akashi" I said.

"How old are you?"

"12 years old."

"Where do you live?"

"New York. Moved from Vermont to go to school there."

"Ever been abused?"

"Never."

Training always hurts but it never hurts in an abusive way, even if it's similar to that.

"You in a gang?"

"No, sir."

Funny enough, I'm an honorary worker of Chaldea since I'm still too young even though I've been there for what felt more that two years due to time.

"Ever killed anyone?"

"Yes, sir." A drakon, Hellhounds, two ogres, a harpy, zombies, boars with some help most of the time.

"Liked it?" "No, sir." I get bored on gathering materials.

"So Micah" he said lazily "How did you know that Zeus had forbidden me to drink wine in this god forsaken place?"

I decided to ignore the fact that he misspelled my name on purpose "I mean, you only have a wine bottle in front of you, and a glass of water which is odd. So, I just read the fact and figure out the rest. A mortal can be just as smart as some others." I explained, If this is how Sherlock explained things and examines everything he sees like it's a game...it's still weird even when he does it but it's useful, I guess.

Mr. D smiled, but that smile only a last for a second, before a permanent scowled embedded on his face again. "Welcome to camp half blood and bla, bla, bla" he said and put his chin on his hand "I'm Mr. D the head of this camp, that is Chiron the camp counsellor."

I nodded "So, um, where do I have to stay?"

"Not going to argue about your condition?" Mr. D asked, a bit surprised.

"Um, honestly no" I answered honestly, I'm over that denial state when I heard of various types of monsters and many hairy Homunculus-plus some android dolls, and etc.

So, having a monster hot on my ass, is not a news to me.

"I mean, I already saw a Greek god, so what's the point of denial?" I explained casually "I also saw a Minotaur, one of my friends turns out to have a pair of goat legs and my teacher is an immortal half horse. So, yeah arguing about that fact is kind of pointless and....troublesome really" I said to them.

Mr. D gave me a half smile and sighed deeply "Fine, fine whatever."

He then turned to Grover "You've got a lot to discuss about Grover, especially bringing a mortal who has clear-vision." He said and swept into the house while Grover followed miserably.

"Is Grover going to be alright?" I asked Chiron when Grover closed the door, "Old Dionysus isn't really mad. He just hates his job, he's been..ah, grounded. I guess you would say, and he can't stand waiting another century before he's allowed to go back to Olympus." Chiron said, but looked troubled as he talked about it.

"Now," he said and suddenly rosed from the wheelchair which surprised me a little. His blankets fell from his legs but it didn't move. His waist kept getting longer, rising above his belt, turning into the front of a horse, muscle sinew under coarse brown fur. And the wheelchair wasn't a chair anymore, it was some kind of boxed container with wheels, well a magic one I guess. Then a leg came out, long and knobby-kneed plus a huge polished hoof. Then another front leg, then his hindquarters appeared, and then the box was empty, nothing but a metal shell with two fake human legs attached.

I used to remember that the Archer-class Chiron used to do that just to scare me when I wasn't listening to him. He would just teach one of his lessons when we sat on the ground and suddenly rise and transform his lower body turning to that of a horse which made me yelp thinking he'll stomp on me.

But he didn't need a box to hide his horse side, and the only thing that he didn't hide sometimes was his tail...maybe it was tiring to transform when growing older.

"What a relief," I snapped out of my thoughts when Chiron.

"I'd been cooped up in there for so long, my fetlocks had fallen asleep. Now come, Mika Akashi. Let's go meet other campers and perhaps talk on where you will be staying at for the time being."
