《Raised by Heroes》Chapter 3

-Narrator's pov.-
Today, Mika and her classmates will be heading to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to look at ancient Greek and Roman stuff. Considering the lessons she learned from the Hanging Gardens, Chaldea and surprisingly London, she would do just fine if she was asked to speak up and answer a question.
Anyways, they were on the bus about twenty blocks from the Museum and Nancy was testing her patience. Most of the kids had long since learned not to mess with Mika's friends. Not Nancy though. The girl had no sense at all, even after Mika and Percy were protecting their friend; The freckly, redheaded Kleptomaniac girl was currently throwing pieces of peanut-butter-and-ketchup sandwich at Grover's head. Mika was currently calming herself, her right eye slightly twitching as she restrained from strangling the annoying girl, everyone on the bus but Nancy noticed her dark aura and was sweatdropping or scooting away from her. Percy, on the other hand, was gritting his teeth in anger because of the same thing.
Nancy was apparently under the impression that Percy wouldn't do anything since he was on probation but was secretly scared of Mika because of the pranks she pulled but continued what she was doing. The headmaster or principle had threatened Percy with death by ISS if he put so much as one toe out of line and Mika was almost crossing it week by week.
"I'm going to kill her," Percy mumbled. "It's alright," Grover said as he tried to calm his rather violent friend. "I like peanut butter." He then ducked as another piece flew by his head. "She has chosen death," Mika said and started to get up, but Crystal, who's seated beside her, pulled her back down. "You're almost on probation," she reminded her, earning a scoff from the Auburn-haired girl. "You know who'll get blamed if anything happens."
"Like I give a damn about getting ISS, I was home-schooled for crying out loud!" she snapped, causing most of the bus to flinch at the ice and steel in her tone. "I'm about to knock her out the back of the bus." Mika moved to get up again, only for Crystal to pull her back down.
"You may not but I do," she said with conviction in her voice, but it only made Mika sigh. Crystal usually acts like this when her friends almost get in trouble. Mika grumbled as she crossed her arms across her chest, Crystal sighed in relief knowing she has stopped a crisis while some students silently thanked her.

Before long, they reached the Museum. Mika and Percy were helping Grover clean his curly brown hair off of pieces of peanut-butter-and-ketchup sandwich, glaring at Bobofit as she walked passed laughing. Once Grover's hair was clear of food, they followed the group in, ending up at the Greco-Roman section of the museum, Mr. Brunner was at the front of the group. Like the Red Sea, the group parted to let Mika and Crystal through.

Mr. Brunner gathered the class around a thirteen-foot-tall stone column with a sphinx on top and started explaining about how it was a grave marker for a girl about their age.
"Do you think she was eaten by a sphynx?- If they were real I mean" Crystal whispered to her, "Maybe, It might be true." Mika mumbled back to her almost twice because most of the kids were running their mouths, which only increased her bad mood.
She continuously told them to shut up, but it seemed as though the class had temporarily taken on Nancy's non-existent survival instinct. Every time she ordered for them to be quiet, the other chaperone, Mrs. Dodds would give her the evil eye.
That one, Mika was one hundred percent sure was some form of monster straight out of the Greek Underworld. The woman had shown up half-way through the year after Mika arrived, the twig of a woman claimed to have come from Georgia, but Mika had never seen a Math teacher that wore biker-grade leather jackets. Something about Mrs. Dodds felt wrong, almost as though she was a monster in disguise. The woman had walked in one day and decided that Nancy was an angel and Percy- sometimes Crystal- was a devil spawn. Anytime they got into any kind of trouble, no matter how small, Mrs. Dodds would point a finger at either person and say in a sickeningly sweet voice "Now Honey," and boom. Detention after-school for a month. Once she had dropped a hint to Grover that she was sure Dodds wasn't human.
"Will you please just shut up!?" Mika and Crystal looked behind them to see it was Percy who shouted that. 'Oh dear,' both thought as Nancy, who was in front of him, snickered.
Mr. Brunner then stopped his story to look at him. "Mr. Jackson, do you have a comment."
"No, sir." He said feeling embarrassed, Mr. Brunner then pointed to one of the pictures on the stele. "Well, perhaps you could tell us what this picture represents?" He asked. "That's Kronos eating his kids, right?"
Mr. Brunner nodded before motioning with his hand, obviously not satisfied. "Yes. And he did this because..."
Percy continued. "Well...Kronos was the King god, and-" "god?" Mr.Brunner asked and Percy corrected himself "Titan, and... he didn't trust his kids, who were the gods. So um, he ate them, right? But his wife hid baby Zeus, and gave Kronos a rock to eat instead. And later, when Zeus grew up, he tricked his dad, Kronos, into barfing up his brothers and sisters-" "Eww!" said one of the girls behind Mika who was instantly shushed by her.
"And so there was a big fight between the gods and titans, and the gods won."

Mr. Brunner nodded as Nancy mumble to a friend behind Mika. "Like we're going to use this in real life. Like it's going to ask on our resume, 'Please explain why Kronos ate his Kids.'"
"And why, Ms. Steinback," Mr. Brunner said to Crytal making her almost tense up, "to paraphrase Miss Bobofit's excellent question, does this matter in real life?"
"" Grover, Percy and Mika said then Nancy hissed a 'shut up' at them as she blushed brighter than her hair. "I don't know sir. Maybe it's supposed to be a lesson about paranoia? Don't do anything you might regret?" Crystal shrugged.
Mr. Brunner looked a bit disappointed. "I see. Well, half credit, Ms. Steinback."
Mr. Brunner went on to explain that Zeus had given Kronos a mixture of mustard and wine to free the other gods from the Titan's stomach. How they proceeded to defeat their father and the other Titans, trapping them in various prisons while cutting Kronos himself up into a thousand pieces with his scythe and scattered his remains throughout the Pit of Tartarus.
After that, they all proceeded to head outside for lunch. One thing that Mika had learned was how to cook. She'd packed such a lunch for herself and Grover like a Hand-cooked General Tsao's chicken, Lou Mien to a mega cheese burrito, all made from scratch. However, as she handed Percy his food, Mr. Brunner called him over. Percy then told Grover, Crystal, and Mika to keep going and went towards Mr. Brunner.
As they sat at the edge of the fountain they'll sometimes look up from their food to look at the bustling city around them. They weren't too far from where Percy told them about his home which was an apartment with him mom and step-dad, same with Crystal were she lives in a condominium which her dad owned.
While they did that, some of the idiotic guys were pelting birds with crackers, Nancy was trying to pickpocket passing civilians, and Mrs. Dodds was just standing there, watching like a hawk.
Soon Percy came back and when Mika offered him some of her homemade cookies, when surprise surprise, Nancy Bobofit came over with her group of equally ugly friends.
Apparently, she'd gotten bored of stealing from tourists. She smugly grinned at Mika and dumped her half-eaten lunch onto Grover's lap. "Oops," she said as she grinned with her crooked teeth. Mika growled, trying to stay calm as she was taught so.
But she didn't expect that the next thing she knew, Nancy was sitting in the fountain, soaking wet. Mika then chuckled lightly, her anger gone.
"Nancy, If you wanted a bath, you could've just waited until we've gone back to the school," Crystal said as the girl's face turned red.
"Percy pushed me!" the freckled girl screamed at the top of her lungs because he was close to her. Like magic, Mrs. Dodds poofed into existence next to them, a hungry look in her eyes.
Mika and her friends could hear the students surrounding them and whispering about how the water had grabbed Nancy. Mrs. Dodds turned to Percy and said: "Come with me, both of you." 'Wait. Both?!' Mika thought and realized that Crystal was also standing, of course, she thinks its also her fault, Grover and Mika tried to take the blame for Nancy being in the fountain but to no avail. As Percy and Crystal followed Mrs. Dodds up the steps, Nancy smirked triumphantly, only to pale when she felt Mika's dark glare making her run away.
'At least she has some sort of sense' Mika thought and turned to look at Grover.
"I'll be right back, okay Grover? I'm just gonna go clean up, that's all."
Mika said and he nodded as she walked away.
Halfway up the steps amongst people entering the museum, Mika glanced back at Grover who looked pale, cutting eyes between Percy and Crystal to Mr. Brunner while not notice Mika or what was going on while the Latin teacher was absorbed in his novel.
Mika shook her head and went up to follow Percy, Crystal and Mrs. Dodds into the museum.
...•...
Sitting on a bench in a park were three withered old ladies.
They looked fragile, it seemed like the breeze would blow them into dust like a snap. All three were knitting big blue socks, then suddenly stopped to look at where the Art Museum's direction was, though it was unclear to who or what they were suppose to look at. All of them were completely still, their faces set in confusion.
The one on the left was holding a peculiar set of items, a ball of bright blue twine in one hand, and on the other, a ball of yarn that had multiple shades from red to cinnamon brown. The woman in the middle was gripping a pair of massive socks, which had a lot of mysterious stitches. They weren't in truly terrible condition, the stitching was slightly uneven but was soft and strong enough to stretch and touch, there were patches in the product with some light stitches of thin white and black string, and there were slightly loose and frayed strings everywhere. The final woman was holding a string of coloured yarn in her hand, not mindful of the slight golden glow it somehow gave.
Who is this person?

I always try to make the characters as realistic as possible by giving them lives of their own and motivations for doing different actions, but because I'm a new author, I might miss a few things, so please, feel free to tell me if something feels fake or unrealistic. I also write as a hobby, and my motivation tends to go up and down. If I'm not feeling motivated, I won't force myself to write.
