"H-he's loosing too much blood- there's nothing I can really do Dream- I-"
George POV
Ever just go to sleep and feel like the whole world around you is weightless? Like the blissful feeling you're having is the only thing that matters in the world? Like all your problems and burdens the day brings, disappear for just a little while and that's all you'll ever need. But then some freckled face dumbass wakes you up and all you want to do is punch them in that annoyingly gorgeous face of theirs, but they also kind of kidnapped you so that would be a bad idea. That doesn't change the fact that you want to do it though. I mean who wakes someone up when you know they're gonna have a hangover. Did I mention the hangover? Fuck. That shit hurts.
"George wake the hell up! Wake the fuck up!" He practically screams while shaking my shoulders. Not really understanding him with immediately being met with the horrid feeling of being hungover and being waken up too early, I roll my eyes at him and the pounding headache I have.
I groan. "Whaaatttt" I mumble, bringing my hands up to my half lidded eyes to rub them.
"I'll explain in a second. Just get the hell up right now." Dream said sternly, not looking like he would be accepting any disagreement or complaining.
Slowly hearing the seriousness in his voice, I start to hoist my still sleepy body up while trying to force it awake. With little success might I add.
Slinking out of the warm and comfy bed, it doesn't take long at all before Dream gets annoyed at my perfectly reasonable tiredness and he grabs my arm and picks me up before he starts rushing out of the room with me in his arms.
What is this even about? Yesterday Dream was in such a good mood. Then this?
Dream rushes us down the stairs and barges into the med-room.
Dream sets me down on the metal table and puts his hand on either side of me on the table before looking me dead in the eyes with a serious expression that makes me gulp in fear.
Did I do something?
"One of my close friends has been severely injured. I don't know how injured or what with, all I know is that it's bad. I need you to try your best to help him, got it? So get everything you can, prepared and ready. I can help you get things set out too. He could be here any minute so we gotta work fast."
Well shit.
I snap myself awake and stare at him widely as I nod.
Holy fucking shit.
"Good."
We immediately start rushing around the room grabbing supplies and setting it on a table.
About 10 minutes in I hear a "Hey, George." from across the room and I turn to see Dream holding a bottle of pills. He tosses one to me and I barely catch it before inspecting it. "It'll help with the hangover." He says simply and I give him a grateful smile as I take the small pill and swallow it quickly.
With that we continued laying out things.
Setting things out ended up being very difficult. Partially because I didn't even know what we were preparing for, and partially because I'm still unfamiliar with where things are and Dream doesn't know the name of half the items.
Once I finally start feeling the relief of having a good amount of things ready, the usually normal sound, but in this case horrifying sound, of tires rolling in outside reaches my ears and both I and Dream freeze as we go dead silent.

In the blink of an eye Dream is dashing out of the room telling me to stay here.
Shit shit shit shit shit SHIT.
I grab the last of the things that I could possibly need, only half paying attention to what I'm grabbing with the racing, anxious thoughts running through my head.
Tums? You never know? Might as well grab that.
Ummm what else? Maybe some Eczima cream? I should get that too, you can never be too safe.
You know, maybe they'll be hungry? Maybe I should go to the kitchen and get-
I hear the front door slam open and the sound of two sets of rushed footsteps coming towards the hallway alert me.
I hold my breath as I see Dream and- and Punz(?) carrying a man inside.
My eyes widen and I beckon them wordlessly to set him on the steel surgical table.
Charcoal black hair, tan skin, a tiny bit taller than me, bloody and unconscious. I notice he has a few bloodied up bandages and, by the looks of it, many other severe injuries.
I quickly place two fingers on his neck.
Pulse: weak and slow.
"H-how long has he been unconscious?"I ask looking up at Punz.
Despite wanting to beat the shit out of Punz right now, I doubt Dream would allow that and I couldn't win a fight against both of them.
"About three hours, but it's been on and off." Punz says with a worried expression as he looks down at the man.
Okay, good, he's probably not in a coma.
"U-um- okay," I start lifting up one of the bandages and my eyes widen. "Are these bullet wounds?!" I yell in disbelief as I look up at Punz for an answer.
He only nods.
Well then fuck.
I've never taken out bullets before!
"O-okay okay, shit shit shit. Um-" I grab some long tweezers and sterilize them quickly, not exactly knowing how to approach this.
I take a deep breath and slowly spread the skin open before reaching in gently with the tweezers. I grab onto the bullet tightly, freaking out when I see the hole begin to fill with blood. Once I have a good hold on it I gently bring it straight out. About half way through, the mans body lurches to life and he starts loudly yelling and squirming causing me to loose my grip on the bullet. "HOLD HIM DOWN!" I yell at the two men and they rush to hold down the squirming limbs of the panicking man.
He starts yelling more curse words as I reach down and grab onto the bullet again before quickly pulling it out. I quickly set it down on the table beside me and quickly grab Dreams arm to get his attention.
"Dream, I need your help. Ever sewn before?" I ask and he furrows his eye brows and nods his head while he continues to hold down the calming, but still struggling man.
"Great, I need you stitch him closed where I just took the bullet out." I say and he immediately protests. "What? I don't know how to do that! Why don't you do that!" He yells.
"I can't do that because I need to stop him from bleeding out in other areas. It's a miracle he's alive still and frankly I don't know how he's conscious right now. Just go between a half and a quarter inch deep with the needle and you should be fine."
He worriedly nods and I take the suction and get rid of most of the blood that filled the bullet hole before Dream gets to work.

Finally, the unnamed man's cussing had died down along with his squirming but his muscles were still tense.
I move over to hid head and grab his attention.
I lower my voice to a softer, friendlier tone that I usually use with panicking patients before speaking. "Look, I'm gonna need you to relax or else you'll break the stitches. I know it hurts but breaking the stitches will just make it worse." He nods and his body slowly relaxes to the best of it's ability.
"Dream? Do you have an anesthesia? He really shouldn't be awake right now." I ask Dream, trying to keep the panic out of my voice.
"No- I'm sorry, I couldn't get any." Dream replies.
Shit.
"Uh- okay. Um, sir?" I turn back to the man on the table. "Do you have any more bullet wounds? Also what's your blood type if you know it. You've lost a lot of blood and we can at least hope one of us is a match." I quickly explain, hoping I talked slow enough for him to understand my words.
"I-I h-have o-one in my-y left bice-p and another in my left s-side..." There was a short pause. "B p-positive." He adds.
I nod, slightly surprised seeing as most people don't actually know their blood type.
I rush over to his other side where Punz stands awkwardly and I hand him a suction.
"Alright, so when I say 'now', you need to press this button and it'll suck up all the blood. Then I'll be able to see what the hell I'm doing when I take this bullet out of him." I turn to Dream and see he's already mostly done stitching. "Dream, can you hook him up to the heart monitor?" He nods and with that me and Punz get to work.
We started working on the bigger gashes, and we finally got to one of the biggest ones which seemed like a knife went horizontally across his abdomen. Luckily, the man (who Dream told me went by the name of Sapnap) had fallen back asleep. "Shit shit shit, Dream he's loosing too much blood, do either of you know your blood types? He needs a blood transfusion." I ask the two and Punz shakes his head while Dream replies with. "A positive."
I start panicking more knowing that with me being A-, neither of us are compatible and the odds of Punz being compatible are incredibly slim.
"H-he's loosing too much blood- there's nothing I can really do Dream- I-" I look at him with tears in my eyes.
"Is there nothing you can do?" He asks looking into my eyes.
I shake my head.
"Shit..." There's a long pause and I go back to trying to stop the bleeding in the gash across his abdomen with little hope.
I hear an "I"ll be right back." before Dream dashes out of the room.
Dream POV
Fuck this has gone bad.
I run down to the basement and burst through the door where the man I 'borrowed' a few days ago still lays on the table.
He bursts awake immediately and starts weakly struggling in the restraints.
"Please! Please-"
I silence him by slamming a hand over his mouth.
"Now listen to me very closely." My voice drops and I lean closer to his face as I watch his eyes widen in horror. "If you tell me your blood type, I'll kill you quickly tomorrow. If you lie to me or refuse to tell me, I will make your death last months and make your last moments more painful than you can ever imagine. You remember last time I came down here? That'll be like a walk in the park compared to what I'll do to you if you lie or refuse to tell me. You got that?" I say it all in one breath, keeping a low and dangerous tone.
The man quickly nods and I remove my hand from his mouth. "I-I-It's O-O Pos-s-iti-v-ve."
I rush out of the door, not even bothering to close it on my way out as I rush up the stairs and into the med-room.
"George!"
George POV
Dream comes back into the room a couple minutes later shouting my name a little too loudly causing me to be startled and almost drop the bandages.
"Yeah?" I ask, a little annoyed that he scared me.
"He can take O+ blood right?"
"Yeah, but I thought-" He cuts me off.
"George, listen to me and don't ask questions." He says seriously and I intently listen, waiting for some explanation. "There's someone here that has type O+ blood, but I gave him a very dangerous drug that was originally meant to kill. He has it in his blood stream and I have no idea what the long term effects of this drug could be. Would it be safe to give Sapnap a direct blood transfusion from this man?" He asks sternly.
I think for a moment taking all of this in, resisting the urge to ask questions next time I speak. "W-well it would depend on the scale of the dosage and what exactly the drug does if it doesn't kill but was meant to... But I'd really have no way to tell you what would happen if you don't know what the long term effects are... I mean there could be no long term effects at all for all we know." I say, slightly unsure of my entire statement.
"Well then should we give him the blood transfusion or not?" He asks. I take a small moment to reply. "If your willing to risk the long term effects, then yes. But if he doesn't get more blood in his system soon then he has an incredibly slim chance of survival."
"I-I don't know. You decide."
I take a deep breath before replying. "I'm not going to decide this for you, Dream. You're the only one who knows what the immediate effects the drug has so you're the only one who can make a guess if it's safe enough. It's your call, Dream." I say, as I go back to tending to Sapnap's wounds.
Dream stands there, speechless and in thought for a moment before rushing back out of the room.
The room goes silent for a moment before I begin speaking to Punz. "Do you know what he's talking about?" I ask quietly.
He shakes his head and the room goes into an uncomfortable silence once again.
A few minutes later Dream comes back into the room dragging a limping man behind him.
My eyes widen in surprise and I immediately run over to man, but before I can make it within arms reach Dream stops me by putting his hand out and giving me a warning look. I immediately understand I'm not supposed to help this man so I nod and step back, eyeing the man and his injuries. He looks just as bad as Sapnap. Bruises, cuts, probably a broken foot by the way he's walking.
"Dream..." I start slowly. "Where did he come from?" I ask carefully, worried of making any wrong moves.
"My basement. Now do what you've gotta do."

The Paths of Magick
Credits: Story by Xcaliburnt. Cover Art by @Bervolart. Magick, the power to bend the laws of reality. All because of a mystical substance known as mana. Mages follow the Paths to achieve power, for there is no more addictive chase. Each Path winds and twists, forcing mages through the flames of adversity and challenge. Though the operative word is "path", the reality is far less straightforward. Instead of a road, Paths are like the branches of world trees, erupting into the heavens, intertwining, and ending in sharp snaps. Only the strongest reach the sky. There are several Paths, and many Ways to walk them—variations of the same Path, and like the stars, they are endless. Magick is the sacred flame that scours the fat, rendering the truest self. Superfluous flesh melting away to show the skeleton of one's being. A chance for ascension—apotheosis. Though not every mage works to godhood, if they survive long enough, It is inescapable. Witness the lives of those that tread the knife's edge of self-destruction. Each one intertwined in their search for answers, revenge, and, most of all: power. These individuals have all lost something precious—irreplaceable—and In search of filling the void left behind, they have taken up the mantle of a mage. Per aspera ad astra. Ad mortem vel divinitatis. (Through adversity to the stars. To death or divinity.) There is no consistent release schedule except my consistent inconsistency. Besides, there’s like a thousand pages worth of content, how can—you already read it? Goddamn. Oh, and there is a very long hiatus between volumes as I intend to edit and rewrite a lot. What to Expect: This story is progression fantasy, so expect a healthy dose of training. It's also heavy on slice of life, and it isn't entirely overarching-plot-driven. Expect characters to live their lives, and not always be on some quest to save the world. There's a lot of magic theory and discussion about it in the story. So, if you don't like impromptu lessons on sorcerous theory by traveling monster slayers, this might not be for you. But if you do like it, rejoice! For there is a lot of it. This is also heavy on prose, purple as a bruised eye. I use outdated, uneccesarily collegiate-level terms and play around with the writing style just for the heck of it. I find it fun to wax and wane poetic, and that might grate on you—I don’t plan to change this aspect of the Paths much if at all. Onto the viewer discretion is advised parts: This is grim-dark/ grim-heart. Take the tags seriously. There will be combat scenes that are brutal and horrifying. Fights to the death tend to be. This is a tale about medieval mercenaries (quite literal killers for hire), man-eating monsters, and eldritch gods beyond the material plane. Beside that, there will be traumatic events that are best left unread. I do not detail certain acts I find heinous enough, instead leaving some parts unwritten but still alludded to if not outright stated; there is simply no graphic narration thereof. This is not for the faint of heart.
