when i leave a poem out in the open
a closed rain falls
& wears out the monoliths of we & us
into pebbles of i & i
look at them— tiny handless stick figures
a crudely encrypted keyhole— a dot & a dash
but these words are the only party i'm ever
gonna throw & you're invited
watch my words wound around a feeling
end up on your plate retrieving themselves—
space chooses it & time chews it & you
spit it out— oars of i's on boats of us
emerge on this ocean to disentangle it from spit
but i am not what it is— i am what i is
