i saw a man in the car next to me

on my way home from the grocery store

i managed to catch a glimpse

at his blue button-up shirt, black sunglasses, and bald head

when i first saw him, i thought of a story

of a man in his mid-late thirties working as a salesman in department stores

trying to sell me a tv network that i don't care about

a man who went home every night

to watch a football game in his wife-beater

screaming at the television

as he ate a microwave ready meal

but he could've also been a man

in his late twenties, early thirties who was the CEO of a budding company

with a salary of millions

a man who went home to help cook dinner

for two hungry kids

with a smile on his face

and a ring on his finger

his life could be perfect

by i'll never know

about the man i saw

on my way home from the grocery store
