Chapter 21, Rejecting The Feelings
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rejecting the feelings make it easier for me not to get butthurt over the rejection.
Okay so you're gonna get mad at me but, I decided to stop dwelling on Miguel because I was really afraid that he was going to reject me.
I took a deep breath when I walked down the stairs and sat on couch in the living room when I called my friends to tell them about what I was going to do, let's just say that they weren't going to be too happy when they hear about it.
With every bone of their body, I knew they were going to scream at me about it.
So I had to sit there and take, I couldn't really disagree with them anyways because it's an idiotic idea and plan.
"Are you dumb? Sorry that was mean, wait no. Are you actually dumb Aurelia?"
Val asked me, I sighed and allowed her to call me dumb because it's a dumb idea.
"Honestly Aura, he's into you and yet you're sitting here thinking he's gonna reject you?"
Angie asked me, I looked at her and took a deep breath.
We were all on FaceTime but by the way Marcy was moving her camera, it looked like everyone was over to my house to stop me from making the dumb mistake.
"Look, it's expect the unexpected and you won't get disappointed."
I finally spit out, but that was obviously not a good defense because they yelled at me again.
"It hurts seeing you this oblivious, like I'm seriously getting a migraine about it."
Val told me, I heard a knock on the door and got up from my couch to go open the door so i could get yelled at in person.
Angie, Kyla, Marcy and Val was there out of breath and walked into the room before grabbing my hand and dragging me up the stairs and into the bedroom.
"What's the real reason, you love the unexpected. It's literally in your Instagram bio!"
Marcy stater as she sat beside me, I criss crossed my legs and looked at her before sighing because I didn't really know the reason.
Okay, that was a real lie, I knew the reason and I didn't want them to make fun of me over it either.
"Come on Rei, we won't judge you."
Kyla said quietly as she sat down on the floor and looked at me, I wanted to throw myself down the stairs because this would be the moment they knew how vulnerable I was.
Yes it's stupid to cry over a boy but I really like him, so rejecting me is really worrisome for me and I didn't want to look stupid confessing my feelings to someone who doesn't reciprocate.
Rejecting the feelings make it easier for me not to get butthurt over the rejection.
I finally admitted, Angie awed at me before hugging me tightly and rubbing my back.
Sometimes I feel like crying because rejection does hurt when you don't do it kindly, that's why I was "Oblivious".
"Look, you don't have to do this right now, but I'm sure that he'll like you back Rei. You're gorgeous and your mom is hot!"
Val stated, I would've told her to stop talking about my mom but it made me laugh a lot.
I smiled at her and hugged Val, I felt like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders and that I could finally breathe correctly.
To take my mind off of the rejection that I could either face or not face, my best friends walked downstairs with me and walked outside to go to the park.
I smiled at them when we walked to the park, I walked to the swings and got on quickly.
"We should race on the swings!"
Val insisted, I smiled at her and we began to race each other to see who would be able to get higher than the other.
Marcy caught wind of what we're doing and rushed over to us, she looked at us with a scolding look and shook her head.
"When one or both of you fall off of the swings because of this race y'all have, I'm going to call the ambulance, make sure you're both okay and then laugh at you."
Val and I looked at one another and began to laugh at Marcy's attempt to sound stern, she has the motherly love running through her veins and it showed.
"Marcy, please take notes on trying to sound menacing from Val."
I told my best friend as I got off the swings and walked to the slides, Marcy laughed and ran after me.
That's when I ran after Val and tagged her, we normally did the foot count thing but at the moment, why not do it surprisingly?
My legs felt like they've been running for years, I'm the least athletic person that I know but that's only because I dislike running and sweating.
Val tagged Angie who kept laughing, she tripped over her own legs and fell which sent me into a fit of laughter.
At this point, we all were on the ground dying because of Angie's falling.
Honestly, Marcy would've checked in on her but she was also laughing.
"I think us meeting is the highlight of my life."
Kyla said as we got up from the ground and began to walk to her house, I looked at her and smiled before wrapping my arm around her shoulder.
"Awe, thanks Ky, meeting y'all is the highlight of my life as well."
I told her, she smiled at me and wrapped her arm around my waist.
"Oh! Guess what!"
Marcy bursted out as we sat down on the ground of Kyla's bedroom, I looked up at her and waited for her to respond.
"I have a crush on Brady!"
Marcy squealed, it took a moment for all of us to register this in our brains but once it finally processes, we all began to scream and squeal.
Brady is only one year older than her, and they were both super cute together.
There was a flash of light, I looked over and smiled at Kyla who took a photo and began to shake it.
"This is the moment that Marcy told us she likes Brady."
Kyla stated as she handed the photo to Marcy so she could glue it to the scrapbook and have Angie to write down.
"I have a photo of Val realizing she likes Mason!"
I realized, Val looked at me with pure shock that I took a photo of her.
Everyone already knew about her crush on Mason, but I just forgot about the photo.
"I'm gonna kill you Rei!"
Val shrieked as she got up from the bed, I got up from the ground and ran down the stairs before leaving the house with my best friend, she wasn't chasing me out of anger.
This is how all of us play, but like I said, I hate running.
Pray for me!
At The Lions Gate
In the 20th century America reinvented itself. Devastated by depression, scarred by war, rocked by a revolution, Americans banded together to preserve their country and their freedom. They had faith in themselves, faith in one another, and for those who believed…faith in God. This novel tells the story of one American who lived through those turbulent years….years that would test his character and the character of a nation. For Josh Sanders it begins in 1935. A star athlete in school, pro football is a ticket out of poverty during the Great Depression; but when his father, a WWI veteran, is killed during a robbery, Josh’s spirit is broken, and with it his boyhood dream. To honor his father Josh joins the war effort in 1942, distinguishing himself as a fighter pilot, until a fateful decision near the end of the war changes the course of his life once again. But many years later, after a stint as a boxer and a failed marriage, Josh finds his calling…at a time when the country is at war with itself. The year is 1968. King and Kennedy have been killed, race riots are breaking out, and Vietnam has become an albatross, causing massive protests across the country. In the streets of San Francisco Josh watches a crowd of students march for peace. As a veteran he’s conflicted, toward the war and those who oppose it. But when he encounters Rosy Goldin, a spirited young protester in need of help, a voice from the past calls him to action. His good intentions are soon tested when Rosy falls in love with the fugitive anti-war activist Erick White, a young man determined to oppose the war at all costs, against the wishes of his own father. Fearful of what happens to Rosy, Josh confronts Erick, unwilling to be part of his plan to escape…until he meets the boy’s father. A high-powered criminal attorney, Karl White is also a flag-waving patriot demanding that his son follow the law. But as White makes his case Josh is jolted by a painful war-time memory, a crisis of conscience that will soon determine the fate of Rosy Goldin and Erick White.
