《Outlander》Chapter 13

Walking along the busy street of Times Square, wearing black leather jacket, white shirt tucked in a pair of jeans and black boots.
Roaming my eyes around, some in a hurry, some walking with phones in their ear, and some just simply walking minding their own businesses.
In just a few days everything will be ruined.
Sitting outside the coffee shop, smiling as I looked up and saw the gigantic building of Stark Industries.
"Via, hi." A woman said, looking at her and giving her a smile, "Abby, hello. You work here?" I asked as she nodded her head, "One of my jobs." She replied.
"So, what is your order?" She asked, "The usual?" She added, earning a laugh from me and nodded my head, "Okay, coming right up." She said, smiling as I heard her bubbly voice.
Exhaling a breath as I placed my hands inside my pocket, leaned my back on the chair, and looked back at the building.
I wonder what Tony is doing right now.
Shaking my head, averting my eyes away from the building, smiling seeing children happily eating with their parents at the nearby table.
Biting my lips as my eyes started to sting, remembering how we used to do that together with Ma, Da, and Claude.
Later on, Abby placed my coffee and croissant on the table saying my thanks to her as she smiled and left to attend to some customers.
Holding my cup with both my hands, feeling the warmth and smelling the aroma of coffee, I slowly lifted the cup, taking a sip and a sigh escaped from me.
Gently placing the cup down, taking a bite of my croissant, and roamed my eyes around.
Few minutes later, as I finished my coffee, placing a tip on the table, I was about to leave when I felt an itching sensation on my wrist.
My body froze, knowing exactly what it meant, I carefully looked around, assessing who of my soulmates were nearby.
My eyes widened seeing a man wearing a leather jacket, a pair of trousers and leather shoes.
Seeing as he just came inside the coffee, standing up, clearing my throat and acting like nothing happened.
Exhaling a breath, I was already outside the coffee shop when someone called me.
"Via!" Abby shouted, halting my steps, shutting my eyes hard and clenching my fist.
Gulping as I turned around, forcing a smile as she approached me, "Yes?" I asked, "I wanted to invite you to our house to have dinner. My son will have his 6th birthday." She said as I nodded my head.

"Sure." I replied, feeling someone staring at me, my eyes widened as our eyes met.
Fuck. I'm screwed.
"I have to go. I'll come back here tomorrow." I said as Abby nodded her head and looked at me with confusion. Patting her shoulder and immediately left.
Why did I have to look at him? Stupid eyes.
"Excuse me, ma'am." Someone said, "Oh no." I mumbled as I fastened my steps.
Glancing over my shoulder, "Shit." I said, seeing Steve following me.
Not today, Captain Rogers.
Turning at an alley and teleporting at the top floor of the building, exhaling a sigh as I sat down.
Peeking down, seeing Steve just turned and looked around.
Running his hand over his hair, smirking seeing him confused and lost as he continued to look around.
Twice. This is the second time this has happened.
Sighing as I leaned my back on the wall and closing my eyes, feeling the sun hitting my face.
"I must be careful next time." I mumbled, nodded my head and stayed in my position.
Furrowing my eyebrows, noticing something blocked the light, I opened my right eye.
My breath hitched as I opened my other eye, shocked to see who was standing in front of me.
"Wha- How?" I asked, stuttering, seeing Steve standing in his glory.
"You have beautiful hair." He said, feeling a rush of heat to my cheeks, quickly averting my eyes away from him as I planned my escape.
"Don't ever think about it, ma'am." He said, warning in his voice, looking back at him, raising my eyebrow.
"What? I don't know what you're talking about." I replied, earning a chuckle from him, "I know that look. You can't escape me. I won't let go of you." He said, sitting down in front of me.
My eyes widened, gulping as he leaned forward, his hands slowly moved, reaching out and gently caressed my face.
"I've been waiting for you." He said, longing in his voice and smiling at me.
I was about to teleport when he grabbed my arm, gasping as he pulled me to him, letting me sit on his lap.
"Jesus H. Roosevelt Christ." I said, earning a laugh from him, placing both of his hands on my waist.
"I'm sorry, ma'am, but I can't help myself. It's just... You're so beautiful. I can't seem to take my eyes and hands away from you." He said, looking directly into my eyes.
Clearing my throat as I tried to stand up, his hold tightened, "I believe our position right now is not appropriate, sir." I said, not looking at him.

"Is it? I didn't see any fault in our position right now, ma'am." He replied, looking back at him, squinting my eyes as he gave me a smirk.
"We are in public, sir. And I don't know you. I can say that this is sexual harassment." I said as his smile widened.
"Then shall we go to my apartment?" He asked, clicking my tongue in disapproval and shook my head, hearing a laugh from him.
"I'm Steve Rogers." He added.
Of course, I know you.
Looking at him as he eagerly waits to hear my name.
He looks like a dog. A golden retriever.
Exhaling a breath, "Rivia." I said, "Just Rivia?" He asked, nodding my head, "Just Rivia." I replied, nodding his head, "Rivia. Beautiful name for a beautiful woman." He said, earning a chuckle from me.
Squealing as I hold onto his shoulders as he stands up and firmly holding my legs.
"Let me down, Steve." I said, "I love it when you say my name." He whispered in my ear as my breath hitched.
Is this really Steve Rogers? The Captain America?
"I have my own feet. I can stand on my own." I said as he walked and placed me on the nearby bench.
"I don't want you to get dirty sitting on the ground." He said and sat down beside me.
Awkward.
"Mind if I ask you something?" He said, looking at him and nodding my head as an answer, "Do you have a lover? Husband?" He asked, following where he's looking, smiling noticing him staring at the ring Claude gave me.
"Oh, this." I said, looking at it and softly touched the ring, "Someone gave it to me." I added, "Okay." He said with a dejected tone.
Laughing at him, seeing his shoulder slumped, Steve looked at me with sadness in his eyes and confusion.
"I see you have someone dear to you." He said, nodding my head, "Yes, I do." I replied as he nodded his head.
Stifling a laugh as I continued to stare at him, "Why are you laughing?" He asked, "Because you're funny." I replied, furrowing his eyebrows, "I am funny? How?" He asked, "Are you jealous?" I asked.
"Yes." He quickly replied, causing my laughter to stop and looked at him, "I can't be mad at you, but yes, I am jealous that you have someone you love. Someone dear to you." He said, swallowing a lump in my throat as we stared at each other.
Clearing my throat as I turn away, looking up and closing my eyes feeling the warm gust of wind pass, "He's name is Claude. I met him at an orphanage. He was quiet, talented, and handsome." I said, giggling at what I said.
"He reminds me so much of my brother." I added, opening my eyes and stare at the moving clouds above, exhaling a breath as I looked down at the ring, "I already miss him." I said, looking back at Steve.
"I felt so very protective of him the moment I saw him. I can even risk anything for him just to be safe." I added, smiling.
Steve looked at me, reached out his hand and caressed my face, "You are a very kind person, Rivia. And I'm happy, beyond happy that you're my soulmate." he said, "But you need to wake up now, doll." He added, furrowing my eyebrows.
"What?" I asked, confusion in my voice.
"Rivia." someone called, looking around as the voice kept on calling my name.
"Wake up!"
"Rivia!"
"I swear to God, if you won't wake up we'll throw you a bucket of ice cold water."
"Rivia!"
Gasping as I abruptly got up, clutching the blanket tightly in my chest, "Via, thank heavens you're awake now." James said, brushing my hair.
"A dream." I mumbled and exhaled a breath.
☘
"Via... Via... Rivia.... RIVIA JONES!" jolting hearing Fergus shouted, looking at him, "Huh?" I asked, as the three of them looked at me worriedly.
"Are you okay?" Ian asked, "Oh. Yeah." I answered, "You haven't touched your food, are you sure you're okay?" James asked.
"Yeah, it's just... I have a dream, a very strange dream." I said as they attentively listened to me, "I met someone, I don't know who." I added, leaving the part that it was Steve who I met.
"What happened?" Fergus asked, "I can't remember anymore." I replied as they nodded their heads.
"Eat your breakfast and have some rest." James said, nodding my head and eat my breakfast.

The Last Science [SE]
[SE has the same content as the original story, split into smaller chunks for easier reading. This story is on a temporary hiatus due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. I work in healthcare and unfortunately no longer have the freetime to continue posting on a regular basis. As soon as our workload decreases, I will return. Thanks for reading! 💙] No one ever knows the whole story. Deep in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, the fading town of Rallsburg stumbles upon an amazing discovery—magic itself. Faced with potentially world-shattering power, the people of Rallsburg keep the secret for themselves. Led by Rachel DuValle, a perpetually underestimated college student with grand ambitions, they seek to found a new society. The world beyond suspects nothing, but magic cannot stay hidden forever. A train arrives in Rallsburg carrying Alden Bensen, a directionless high school graduate. To him, magic could represent meaning for his life, an explanation for his empty existence. This potent force offers anyone the power to change humanity forever—or send it cascading into swift and total annihilation. The Last Science is an ongoing science-fiction / low-fantasy web novel series, focused on the modern world with a twist. New societies bud and grow, but the people who make them up are imperfect and flawed. The story includes elements of mystery, action, crime, interpersonal drama, relationships, philosophy, sociology, politics, and much more, all centered on the perspective characters driving the tale. This is the "Scraps Edition" of the story, where the chapters have been split up into bite-size chunks (roughly 1500-3000 words), for your convenience. The prose has been edited from its original form, with some improvements, but there are no content differences from the original. New chapters will be posted throughout each week starting on Friday and appearing on multiple days thereafter, depending on the length of the chapter. Content Warning (by request): This series delves into some topics and situations which may be upsetting for some readers. In American rating parlance, the narrative would be rated PG-13 (except for language), but some have noted the story can get pretty dark on occasion. There is loyalty but there is betrayal too. This is not related to my other trilogy. The families featured in this book are different. This is a standalone book. Cover by @aresrising
