《Outlander》Chapter 4

A year passed by and many things happened, aside from continuing visiting the orphanage, I volunteered to help and operate some sick patients in a hospital.
It was already 2012, the year where the battle of New York will happen. First week of April as my anxiety constantly rises by each day passing by.
The month that I've been wanting to avoid. May.
Sighing as I got up, looking at the watch on my nightstand, it was already six in the morning. Grabbing the notebook under the mattress as I write the events that will happen in May.

- Destruction of Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S

- Steve, Natasha, and Bruce will meet at the Helicarrier
- Clint and Loki will retrieve some of the element in Stuttgart
- Loki will attack Germany
- Steve, Natasha will travel to Stuttgart via Quinjet to confront Loki, who acts as distraction as Clint steals the iridium
- Unexpected arrival of Tony
- Thor ambushes the Quinjet leading to fight with Tony
- Steve will know about the weaponry
May 4th

- Clint invades the Helicarrier

- Natasha frees Clint from being mind-controlled
- Invasion of Chitauri army
Sighing as I look at what I wrote, "Damn, how detailed my memory is." I said as I chuckled at what I said, "Now, where can I help or change something." I mumbled as I looked at the paper.
"Maybe, I can teleport to the facility where Loki arrives." I mumbled as I nodded my head, "I can do that. And maybe I can manipulate the influence of the stone in his mind." I said as I began obliviously pacing back and forth inside my room.
"I can do that." I said, nodding my head, stopping at the tracks, "Can I?" I asked myself as I sighed, "This is insane." I said as I sat on my bed.

Running my hands through my already messy hair, exhaling a breath as I plopped down on my bed.
"Or maybe send a message to Fury, regarding the destruction of Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S." I said, nodding my head, hearing steps towards my room, I immediately got up and grabbed the notebook.
Quickly hiding it under the mattress and laid back on my bed, grabbing the blanket and closing my eyes. Steadying my breath as I listened what's happening.
"Shh, she's still sleeping." Fergus said, "We have to go. Director Fury needs every agent right now." Ian said, "We'll just leave a note. Come on, we have to go." James said, hearing the door closed.
Waiting for at least 30 minutes, making sure they left, I got up and went inside the bathroom and took a shower.
☘
Arriving at the hospital, I was immediately swept to the operating room, performing an off-pump bypass heart surgery.
As I was about to finish the surgery the power line went out, cutting every electricity including the lights inside the operating room.
"Pause the surgery." The surgeon in charge said, raising my eyebrow as everyone panicked, "Calm down." I said, in my deep serious voice, "If we stop now, the heart muscle will start dying." I added, "The electricity will come back before that." He said.
"And leave the patient to die. No, I will not do that." I said, "Stop the surgery! How can you insert a tube if you can't see anything?" He asked.
"I've done this thousands of times. What do you mean I can't see?" I said, without looking at him as I softly brushed my fingers feeling the vein, I began to continue and seconds later, "Cut." I said as the nurse obliged.
Later on, the electricity went back, hearing gasps from everyone as I successfully finished the surgery.
Looking back as Dr. Bluefield, tilting my head to the side, sighing as I bowed my head and left the operating room.
Removing my scrubs and changing it into more comfortable ones, I began to make rounds at the hospital, checking every patient.
Hours passed by, walking towards the orphanage, Claude was sitting on the stairs looking up with his sketchbook on his lap.
"It's cold out here, Claude. What are you doing here?" I asked as he looked at me and ran, opening my arms as he hugged me tightly.
"I missed you, Via." He said, hearing him sniffling, letting go as I face him towards me, "Why? What's wrong?" I asked, gently wiping his tear soaked cheeks.

Shaking his head, "Oh, Claude." I said as I hugged him tightly, scoping him in my arms as he snuggled in my neck, softly brushing his hair as I walked inside the orphanage.
"Oh, thank heavens. You're here, Via. He's been waiting for you all day." Sister Cristine said, "I'm sorry. I got caught up at the hospital." I replied, "Oh, no worries, dear. What matters the most is your here and Claude is now okay." She said and brushed Claude's hair.
Nodding my head, sensing that Claude is already asleep, "I'll tuck him in." I said as Sister Cristine nodded, following her as he opened a room, "Thank you, Sister." I said as she nodded and left.
Carefully placing Claude on the bed, "Don't leave me." He mumbled in his sleep, a teardrop on his cheeks, looking at him as I grabbed a chair, putting it beside his bed.
Brushing away some hairs on his face, "I won't go anywhere." I said, "I won't leave you." I added, kissing his forehead, staying for a bit more, looking down at my wrist watch it was already quarter to midnight.
Sighing as I stood up, walking to the living room, Sister Cristine and Sister EL were there, noticing me as they stood up, "Thank you for tonight, dear." Sister EL said, "No problem, Sister." I replied, "Today is the death anniversary of Claude's parents." Sister Cristine informed me.
"Oh." I said as I nodded my head, giving them a smile, "You should stay here for tonight. It's dangerous if you'll go home at this hour." Sister EL said, "Thank you for the offer, Sisters. But I'm afraid I'll have to decline that offer, I have to go home or else those three men will wreak havoc if I do not return home." I replied, earning a smile from them.
"Then, you should go now. Be careful, dear." Sister Cristine said as I nodded my head.
Walking on the silent streets, suddenly feeling dizzy, looking around making sure no one is around, I conjured my remaining strength and teleported in front of the house.
Pressing the doorbell, hearing rushed footsteps coming towards the door, James opened the door, looking up as the three of them looked mad but quickly changed the moment they saw me.
Their eyes soften, "I'm sorry I got home late." I said as the last thing I saw was how flustered they were and calling my name as darkness consumed me.
☘
Slowly opening my eyes, grunting as I roam my eyes around, I was inside my room, "Careful." Fergus said as I closed my eyes, groaning.
"What happened?" I asked, "You were beyond exhausted. Rest for now." He replied as I groaned.
"I was at the hospital, performing surgeries and checking on patients. Then I went to the orphanage, stayed there for a while. And teleported here, then I started feeling dizzy." I said, holding my head.
"You were home late. We were worried and mad, but we panicked the moment we saw how close you were to losing your consciousness." He said as I nodded.
"Rest for now. It is still early in the morning." He said and kissed my forehead, humming as I went back to sleep.
Waking up with the sun hitting my face, turning my face around avoiding it, groaning as I opened my eyes, looking around as I was inside my room.
Sighing as I was sure to face three of them, getting up, I went inside the bathroom and took a shower.
Later on, wearing a pair of jeans and a black hoodie, I went downstairs seeing three of them sitting on the couch, swallowing a lump in my throat as I slowly approached them.
"We have to talk." James said, seriously, looking at Ian and Fergus as they averted their eyes away, sighing as I looked at James.
"I'm sorry." I mumbled, "We were so worried about you." He said as I bowed my head.
"You will not use your powers until you desperately need to use them. Understand?" He said as I looked back at him, exhaling a breath, "I'm sorry. Understood." I said and nodded my head.
The three of them stood up as my eyes widened, "Uh..." I said as they engulfed me in a hug, "Don't ever do that again. Call us if you feel something is not right." Ian said, hugging me tightly.
"What's the purpose of the phone we gave you if you don't use it?" Fergus said, earning a flicker on my forehead, "We are just worried about you." James said as I nodded my head.
"I will be careful next time." I said, "As you should. You're a clumsy woman." Fergus said.

Author's Thoughts: What is litRPG (From wikipedia) - LitRPG, short for Literary Role Playing Game, is a literary genre combining the conventions of MMORPGs with science-fiction fantasy novels.[1] LitRPG is a literary genre where games or game-like challenges form an essential part of the story. A LitRPG work simultaneously narrates the story of characters inside and outside of the game-world. At least some of the characters in a LitRPG novel therefore understand that they are playing a game: they are 'meta-aware'. So, while Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is a fantasy novel, a book about people creating avatars and interacting in a Lord of the Rings MMORPG would be a LitRPG novel. Why do I read them? You know, I am not too sure. I love MMOs. I played them, quit them, joined up and repeated the cycle. They are fun! They are a massive waste of time but so are most games. Do I want to read about someone else playing them? Sort of?The advent of VR and the possibility of VR someday becoming so immersive that you can't tell them from reality sets the imagination on fire. What if this could be life? But most stories fall short. At the end of the day the protagonist hangs up his VR helmet and goes to have dinner with his mom and dad or other family and it becomes meaningless. It's like the story that ends because the main character woke up and nothing you read matters. There have been some books that explore the concept of the intersection of reality and total immersion VR. Enders Game is a classic. There were a few others that escape me but they exist, however, the cross between the game and reality is weak.So what if the game was real? The technology needed for total immersion VR is so advanced that by the time we reach that goal technology should have naturally evolved to include several items. You must have direct neural input. You simply can't have a total immersion (all senses and perfect presence) experience without this basic prerequisite. If you have direct neural access, you can probably do neat things like feed knowledge and skills directly to that person. You can undoubtedly do many horrible things as well. Muscles are controlled by the brain. If you control the brain why would you let the body just sit there and rot? A person that sits unmoving for 24 hours a day will have their body whither away just like a coma patient. However, if you control the brain you could control the muscles. On a basic level, this would be isometric impulses, working muscle group against muscle group to avoid atrophy. Taken to its logical conclusion you would be able to gain muscle mass and program muscle memory. The flip side is that you could remote control their body... but let's not go there. So what would people do if it were real? Well, they would probably limit and regulate it since the drawbacks are very obvious. Even if you look at the basic aspects of this you can see some negative possibilities. Look at the Sword Art Online anime. Personally, I think they missed the boat by putting a bomb in the VR helmet. Do you really need a bomb when you have direct access to the brain? So what kind of events would you need to have a situation where the obvious drawbacks haven't been explored? Maybe a society where the advancement of technology has so far outstripped the explorations of its applications that ignorance was truly bliss? Okay, so I had to put in an alien invasion to kickstart the premise, but that was just one of the possibilities.
