《The Badboy Prince Just Can't Resist》Chapter 21- And There Was The Wrath of Veronica

"End of story."
"Oh my gods Annalise. That's insane! That explains why you were so upset when I left the next morning. I didn't know what was wrong, but I was too hungover to ask or understand what was going on." Hazalen took a sip of her peach tea. It was lunch time, without Veronica of corse.
I decided to go to school the next day, my confrontation with Damien giving me reassurance. All I needed to do now was ask Veronica why she deliberately went behind my back and obviously drugged Damien.
Wait... who else would you get drugs from?
I know a creepy psychotic guy!
"Annalise, I can't believe she would betray you like that. That's why she ditched me for lunch yesterday and she's been hanging out with Isabelle."
"What-Isabelle?" Confusion crossed my face.
"Yes, they are supposedly 'best friends' again. I thought it was a complete rumor, but now I know it's true." Hazalen shook her head. So Isabelle used Veronica to get through to me.
"Hazalen, it was all a trap." I stopped eating my turkey sandwich. Realization glazed over her eyes as she halted her eating as well.
"Your right!" Hazalen had a fury in her eyes I've never seen before," Shes always manipulating and messing up people's lives! Just like what she did to me, now to you!" She snapped, tearing out pieces of the grass below and throwing it random places. "I've had enough! She thinks she can use her family money to get her way. Well guess what bitch! I have money too, but I won't use it-"
"Hey there- calm down Hazalen. We don't need Veronica. I have you and that's all I need. I'm honored to be your best friend, I can rely on you with anything. Forget about Isabelle and Veronica. Sure they've got money, but we have something much more. Friendship." I smile bright as her breaths start evening out.

"Your right. She had no friends when I was her henchmen, she has none now. Nothing has changed." A small smile creeped up on her lips.
I felt a presence behind me I knew all too well. I squinted my eyes, realizing she heard some of our discussion.
"Playing hard to get, huh? I didn't have to do that to get my way."
Oh.
My.
Gods.
I do not have time for this today.
"Veronica, I'm really not in the mood to talk to you. I don't think I can forgive you for what you have done." I smiled sadly at her.
"What if I don't want to be forgiven?"
"Well then you have done a great job, well done." I smiled brightly at her and turned away.
"You are nothing at all, Annalise Woods. You may think you have it all because the prince is at your feet. But soon enough he will have you at his feet. Your just another conquest, a challenge. He always wants something he can't have and right now that's you. A little innocent girl he wants to take advantage of. He's going to grow tired of your pathetic act, and when he has you wrapped around his finger he will leave you. You want to know why? Because he won the game. This is all a game to him. You are nothing, Annalise Woods. Nothing but a fatherless family and the tailor's girl. A pretty face and body he wants all to himself just for one night. You will never be royalty or anything special. So stop trying to act like it." Veronica spat in my face.
I was shocked to say the least. She had brought out all of my little insecurities, things I don't want people to think, things I've even been thinking that I don't want to be true.

I guess after being best friends with her for a month she knew me well. I should've noticed the snappy comments and the fake kindness. She had truly known me inside out, yet her life was still a mystery to me.
I still think at times she was truly being sincere. Like when she talked to us about her grandpa, or when she gave us compliments; I actually think she meant them. We seemed to have fun tougher and I honestly trusted her.
The problem was, I should have listened to her from the beginning. She warned me to never trust anybody, for the only reason why people associate in others is so they can get something out of it. Yet she was only referring to herself. It takes one to know one you could guess.
I picked up my items, and left her standing there. My face a mask, just like the one I wore at the ball. She looked very proud of herself as I spared one more look at her.
But I had nothing to say.
\\\\\\\\
Damien didn't talk to me for five days after our encounter.
One step back.
Our classes together were quite awkward. We would each meet each others eyes, then hesitantly look away.
Music class we ignored eachother.
Homeroom, he always showed up as late as he could.
He would skip every dance class we had together. I had to dance with a guy named Garth who always had clammy hands and was around my height. He smelled faintly of cashews and I had no idea why.
This guy couldn't even lead, I was the one leading all the dances with confidence and now wet hands. As much as I hated to admit it, Damien is an amazing dancer. And I learned from the best in the kingdom.
Damien's heart has good intentions, he just doesn't know how to use them. He doesn't know wrong between right yet, confidence between arrogance and selfishness until it becomes disrespectful.
He's not used to a challenge.
So me.
He pushes past boundaries a little too far, but he's trying to continue on a good path, which I can see.
The answer fell right into my lap that day.
Yet again...
Literally.

Cheep!?
Charles Monroe survived the disappearance of his parents, did his best to hold things together for himself and his sister. He survived when she, too, vanished, leaving behind nothing but a cryptic note. He was devastated, but he kept moving forward as best he could. Cancer didn’t put him down, and after suffering through several rounds of chemotherapy, Charles Monroe thought that things might finally be looking up. That is, until a virulent strain of ebola swept through the city. With his immune system strained as it is, the odds don’t look good for Charles. Now, on the bridge between life and death, he hears a voice claiming to know where his family went. It claims that it needs his help and that it can give him a second life, one far away from all the pain he’s ever known. So, Charles answers as any reasonable person would. He says no. Charles isn't ready or willing to die yet. But, as with everything else to this point, even his choice to keep fighting is taken from him all too soon. With no other option but the dark oblivion of death, Charles chooses to make a deal with the spirit of a distant world that's seeking a wild card in its battle against the gods, monsters, and mortals that threaten its existence. Someday, he’ll find where his family went. Someday, he’ll uphold his end of the bargain and hunt beings powerful beyond anything he’s ever known. Someday, he might even – hatch? “CHEEP!?” Things to Know: -Cheep!? Will release on a minimum weekly schedule. -After a backlog of chapters, posting will slow, but in the interim you can expect a chapter a day up until roughly 25 chapters. -This story at times will potentially carry some heavy moments, but the tone is intended to be lighter overall. -There are invisible game-like elements in this story, but nothing so concrete as a dedicated gamelit novel. -I personally have some issues with anxiety, so I may or may not interact with the community a lot. I'll try if anyone has questions, but I can't guarantee that it'll be consistent. -MC is a non-human lead, and will never actually become human. Romance will potentially happen between side-characters, but not with the MC. -MC IS NOT THE ONLY VIEW POINT. I have to put that out there because people sometimes hate alternate PoV's in a story. None of them will be filler, and they'll be there only to give a little bit more nuance and meaning to the world that the MC has stepped in, or is about to be imminently important. I'll try to keep them down, but this also helps to prevent me from burning out getting trapped in one view. -Most of all, I hope that this story is enjoyable to you, and that you have a great time reading it! -Written by Michael Adams, Cowritten/Edited by Summer Kent

The Chromagnum's Sacrifice
Seventeen years ago, the Chromagnum fell from the sky. It's impact shattered the world, and brought the society to its knees. As humanity slowly pulled itself together, they realized that the Chromagnum brought with it a poison that corrupted the living. Abominations began cropping up around the crash site. Monsters with powdery black skin, and glowing orange eyes. Monsters who seemed hell-bent on consuming. Destroying everything in their path, the monsters swept eastwards towards the kingdom of Elendial. A war raged. And humanity crumpled. Retreating deep within their strongholds as the land became ruled by the corrupted creatures spawned by the Chromagnum. Then a leader arose, and humanity rallied. King Magnus drove back the slavering hordes and fought to bring peace to the land once more. However our story does not chronicle King Magnus’ rise to power. Nor does it detail how he collected the elites of the kingdom and forged them into the sharpest of blades. No. Our story tells the tale of young Ril Renar. An orphan. Alone, rejected by society. Ril travels across Elendial searching desperately for a family to call his own. Along the way he will find friends and struggle mightily to convince them to make a space in their hearts for him. Book 1 - Complete (0-30) Book 2 - Ongoing (31-) This story is a softcore progression classic fantasy with LitRPG elements. The story is about searching for family, love, loss, sacrifice, and of course power. The content warnings are mild.

The Emperor's Chef
"Cook like your life depends on it, kid. Because it does." Charles had an enviable future lined up for him. Training from the age of five by some of the finest chefs in the world. Schooling at a top culinary academy in the capital. An honorable position as heir to House Boulier, a line of merchant-lords who have charmed the rich and powerful with their cooking for centuries. And in a single night, it all burned to ash. When the outbreak of war destroys his hometown, Charles is charged with escorting his family’s sacred treasure—a recipe book passed down for untold generations—out of harm's way. But his simple mission grows complicated when he’s captured by one of the most feared battalions in the world: the Spears of Mercy. Life as a prisoner in their war camp is brutal and uncertain. Charles has few allies and even fewer strengths to rely on. Only his skills in the culinary arts, honed over a lifetime in the kitchen, are deemed useful enough to keep him alive another day. But he’s not out of hope just yet. With a dash of wit, a pinch of luck, and some very creative cooking, he might just find a way to recover his family’s legacy and take back his freedom. This project is a food-themed fantasy that centers on cooking and chefs. The setting spans a wide world featuring ingredients/recipes both real and inspired by traditional fantasy. I'll eventually be publishing it as a full-length novel (or series of novels depending on length). These are the first draft chapters. I'll likely be re-writing more than once, then editing before publishing, so impressions and feedback are quite welcome. If you like the story so far and you're interested in being an early reviewer for the final product, feel free to message me. I'm looking for an artist to make some concept art and a cover (the cover shown here is just a temporary placeholder). A stand-alone novel for now, but it may turn into a series down the road.
