"When I heard the alarms and didn't hear from you, I thought they had failed." Gretchen said once they all got off the boat. "Im glad to see you succeeded. For LJ's sake." she said shortly. Michael felt his blood boil as they made the exchange.
Once LJ was safely back, Michael looked her dead in the eyes. "Was it you?" he asked her with anger rising in his veins. "Did you kill Sara?" he asked again with more desperation. He heard his brother's warning but disregarded it. Michael started to move closer to her and her men pulled their guns on him. Lincoln called to his brother louder telling him to drop it. Gretchen held up her hand to silence everyone.
She turned her attention back to Michael and smiled wickedly. She reached into her jacket pocket and pulled out a small piece of paper and pen. She wrote a few things on there before handing him the paper.
"What is this?" he asked her angrily but she didn't answer. Instead she walked back to the car and opened the door. "I will find you and kill all of you." Michael warned before she had closed the door. After that they had disappeared leaving the convicts behind.
Michael looked at the piece of paper and read it.

Michael looked at his watch quickly. It was 5:30. He didn't know what the phone number meant or who he would be calling but he anxiously waited as the convicts made their way through the city to a hotel where they could lay low.
"Who do you think it is?" Lincoln asked as he stood with Michael outside the room. Michael nervously paced around.
"I have no idea Linc." he replied while checking his watch again. It had just turned 6 and he dialed the number quickly. The phone rung three times before there was an answer.
"Who is this?" Michael asked immediately.

"1640 NE 5th street. Tomorrow." the man said before hanging up. Michael was sure the voice sounded familiar but he couldn't picture who it belonged to. He looked at Lincoln and recited it to him while taking out a pen and paper to write it down.
"Michael that could be anywhere." Lincoln said with confusion.
"No. The area code was Los Angeles and that's where I'm going." Michael said while walking away. Lincoln followed him and they made their way to the boat they had taken when they first got to Panama.

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner Michael." Lincoln said while he and Michael watched the boat get closer to the dock. Michael didn't reply. "I was afraid that you wouldn't give up Whistler. I didn't want LJ to–"
"I would never let him die Linc." Michael said quietly. Michael shook his head in agreement.
"I know. Im sorry I didn't tell you. I should have." Lincoln said again.
"I can't believe she's gone." Michael said after a few minutes, his voice breaking slightly. He wondered if it was even worth going to some house. For all he knew he was just walking into a trap. But honestly he didn't care anymore. Without her he was nothing. He had nothing else to live for.
Lincoln put his hand on his brothers shoulder showing comfort and didn't say anything after that. Michael had appreciated the effort but he still felt broken. They didn't say another word to each other until they had reached the house.
Michael walked up the stairs with Lincoln by his side. He knocked on the door and heard footsteps on the other side getting closer and closer. The door unlocked and it opened revealing the man Michael had spoken to the day before.
"Bruce?" Michael asked with confusion. He knew the voice had sounded familiar and it had just clicked for him. He looked at Lincoln and then back to Bruce.

"Come in." He said quickly while opening the door wider for them. The brothers walked inside and waited for Bruce to close and lock the door again.
"Bruce what's going on? Why did Gretchen give me your phone number and why did she want me here?" Michael asked him still confused with what was going on.
"I think all your questions will be answered in there." Bruce said while pointing to the living room around the corner. Michael didn't hesitate and walked straight towards the opening. Anxiety started to creep into the back on his mind as he took a shaky breath. As he rounded the corner he felt his heart stop completely. He froze as he took in the scene in front of him.
Standing a few feet away from him was Sara. Alive.
He felt his breath hitch as he looked at her. He almost thought he was in a dream. He stared at her eyes and she stared back at him. They both had the same look on their faces. They started walking slowly towards each other unable to believe that they were actually in the same room. Michael reached out to touch her and she smiled in relief as she crashed into him. He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her in closely.
He grabbed the back of her head with his hand and pulled her head closer to his chest. He couldn't believe that she was there in his arms. He sighed in relief and released a breath he didn't know he was holding. She melted into his touch.
"Sara." he whispered. He wanted to make sure he wasn't dreaming. She tightened her grip around him not wanting to let him go. She had been through hell and didn't want the moment to end.
He pulled her head back slightly and wiped the hair out of her face. He caressed her face gently with his hands still trying to determine if what he was seeing was real. Without thinking, he pulled her close to him and kissed her passionately. As soon as their lips touched he knew it was real. He new she was safe and she was alive. After their lips separated he pulled her back in and hugged her. She was safe.

Michael handed Sara the small box of Chinese food as they sat on the bed together.
"I thought Id never see you again." Michael said with sadness in his voice. She looked up suddenly and searched his eyes. She saw both the desperation and relief and felt sympathetic. She couldn't even imagine what he had been through after thinking she was dead. Before she could think too deeply on the subject, he closed the distance and kissed her. She melted into his touch, thankful that he was back with her and they were safe. She wrapped her arms around his neck and he pulled his head back slightly so he could see her.
"I have something for you." he said with a small smile. He crawled off the bed and over to his small bag. She smiled widely.
"Okay." she said with a laugh. She watched him pull something out of his bag and put it behind his back. He walked over to her and crawled back onto the bed. He looked at her and pulled the origami flower he had given to her the night at the infirmary.
"You left this behind." He said smiling. She laughed and took it into her hands.
"Is that what this is about?" she asked playfully as she sunk lower on the bed. He adjusted and sat next to her. "You just getting me my rose back?" she looked at him and he chuckled.
"Yeah I guess I'm done now. I can retire." he replied and she laughed. He moved his hand onto her knee and rubbed it soothingly. She moved her head and rested it on his chest. He moved his head closer to her.
"I love you." he said while kissing her head.
"I love you too." she said and he kissed her lips.

Tower of Somnus
When humanity first encountered alien life, we were judged and found wanting. The Galactic Consensus interviewed our leaders and subjected us to a battery of psychological tests to determine our progress as a society. They found us to be selfish, wasteful, impulsive, and boorish neighbors. Earth was blockaded and our collective encounter with our extrasolar neighbors rapidly faded from memory. All they left behind was a hypercomm relay and a handful of subscriptions to a massively multiplayer game that participants played in their sleep. The Consensus said that it would let us interact with our neighbors in a controlled setting. That it would teach us to be better members of the galactic community. The megacorporations that controlled Earth ignored the game until they learned that the powers earned from clearing dungeons were just as real when day broke. Magic, supernatural abilities and rumors exploded from nothing and a subscription to The Tower of Somnus became a status symbol. Katherine ‘Kat’ Debs doesn’t have much, but it could be worse. Born in an arcology, she was assigned a job in the megacorporation that raised her almost as soon as she could work. Despite the stability of her corporate life, she wanted something more.
