《Elijah》41

It was Valentine's Day and we had to spend it switching out bandages and Eli took some business calls.

I made us breakfast and we sat down and ate.

"You know this is my job, right?" he asked and took another bite of his food.

"Making breakfast?" I wondered and drank a sip of juice.

"Cooking all together."

"How?" I laughed.

"Because it is."

"You have like 12 different jobs, no need to make a 13th." I argued.

"I don't think of them as jobs if I enjoy it." he replied.

"Well then I'll make sure to remember that." I smiled then got up to put my dish away.

"Happy Valentine's Day." he said as he put his dish away as well then kissed my head.

"Happy Valentine's Day." I repeated and then remembered that the lingerie should have come in the mail yesterday.

A ringing sounded on his doorbell.

"I got it." he stated.

He walked to the door as I threw away any extra trash that laid around.

"Uh, Hi?" I heard Eli say.

"Hello, brother in law!" That was Kendall's voice.

"Wha-..."

"I just came to drop something off." she interrupted him.

I walked to the door too and saw that she held something behind her back.

"Hey, Ken." I greeted.

"LEYLA! You ummm, a PACKAGE arrived for you." she stated.

'Holy shit, it's like she can read minds.'

I stood in front of Eli and Ken handed me the package.

"Thank you." I said.

"Of course. You two have fun." she smiled and began her walk off. "BYE, BROTHER IN LAW!!!" she shouted back at Eli.

"Uh, Bye." he said and his shyness about it made me giggle.

I walked off and he closed the door.

"What is it?" he asked.

"Hm?"

"The package."

"Umm...A new shirt. For work."

"Really? Try it on, let me see."

"Huh? Oh, no...I don't...think that's necessary."

"Why not? It's just a shirt." he laughed.

"Yea, but...why?"

"Well, I'm your boss, I could tell you if it's appropriate or not."

"It's appropriate."

'It's definitely not.'

"Why are you acting so funny about a shirt?" he asked with a confused expression.

"I'm not acting funny." I lied and headed to his bedroom.

Of course he followed me.

"You're definitely acting funny."

"How about I show you once you are no longer injured?" I offered with a smile.

A grin shown on his face. "I get the feeling I'm gonna like this shirt."

'I really hope you do.'

"I don't know...maybe." I answered shyly.

...

Since there was nothing out of the house that we needed to do and nothing Eli really could do, we spent the rest of the day just watching movies.

"Are you comfortable?" I asked.

"Yes, baby, that's the fourth time you've asked." he laughed.

"I'm sorry, I just don't want you in any pain."

"If I am, I'll let you know, but as of right now I'm okay." he promised and kissed my cheek.

"Okay." I accepted.

When I woke up this morning, Eli was already out of bed but I heard something and it didn't sound far away.

I sat up and the further I brought myself, the more I saw over the bed. I leaned forward and saw Eli on the floor doing push ups.

"What're you doing?" I asked.

"Bicycling." he answered sarcastically.

I watched his lips mumble numbers that I couldn't hear.

"Why?" I asked.

"Why am I bicycling? Easy answer, I'm not."

I sighed at his sarcasm but it kind of made me want to laugh.

"I meant why are you doing push ups on the ground."

"Because doing them on the bed was hard on my wrists."

"ELI!" I shouted and he laughed.

"I haven't worked out in three days. I feel...soft." he finally answered. He continued mumbling numbers.

'If you're soft I must be liquid.' I thought to myself.

He still looked like he could lift a truck and throw it across town.

When my thoughts quieted down I could finally hear his numbers.

"86, 87, 88, 89, 90..."

"90?!" I questioned.

"Yea, I got a late start." he answered.

I rolled my eyes at the idea of him thinking 90 wasn't enough and got out of bed to go brush my teeth.

"How do you feel today?" I asked from the bathroom as I put toothpaste onto my toothbrush.

"Are you gonna ask me that everyday, every hour, until I heal? I'm fine, beautiful."

"I'm just making sure." I said and began brushing my teeth.
