《Elijah》8

We were in the car and on our way back home.
"Listen-..." Eli began and I interrupted him.
"So you own...an underground fight ring?"
"Yes." he answered.
"Can I ask why?" I wondered.
"Well you asked me what I wanted to be. I wanted to be a professional fighter. Since I was a child. But that's not what my father wanted for me so 'professional' went out the window but that didn't mean I couldn't fight at all. So, I found an abandoned building, turned the basement into a workout arena, occasionally pulled people in to fight me and the crowd stayed and grew. Then my father found out and threatened that if I didn't stop he'd have me arrested so-..."
"So you make everyone keep quiet about it now." I answered for him.
"Exactly."
"How long have you owned it?"
"Since I was 18."
"12 years?! I feel like one of my questions should've been what're your hobbies." I stated and he chuckled.
"So you're not upset with me?" he asked.
"Why would I be? You explained why you keep it a secret. I don't want you in jail-...well I mean you'd definitely survive in there-..." he laughed again. "But that doesn't mean I want you in it. I don't blame you and your secrets safe with me."
"Thank you."
"I have another question." I began.
"Dear god, when do you ever not have a question?" he asked and I laughed because it's pretty accurate tonight.
"I think that's the first time I've heard you laugh." he claimed.
I stopped and sucked in my mouth.
"Don't do that." he said. "I like it."
Allow me to try my hardest to not faint and/or pass away.
"What's your question?" he asked and I realized I'd been zoned out for a while.
"Oh, the scars on your body. Are they actually from what you say they are or were they fight ring related and you were just keeping the secret?" I wondered.
"You're a clever one, aren't you?"
"I'd like to think so."
"Well you're right. Both are from knives. We have knife night at the ring, it's exactly how it sounds. I don't use them but I let everyone else use them and both scars are from two different matches." he explained.

"Do you still fight?" I wondered.
"Yes. Monday's, Wednesday's, and Friday's." he claimed.
"Today's Friday."
"Yes it is."
"You were supposed to fight tonight."
"Yes I was. But I just moved it to tomorrow, they'll be fine."
"Can I watch?" I asked as he pulled into my driveway.
"You want to watch me fight?"
"Is that weird?"
"No, just...unexpected. I don't know if I want you in that environment again." he claimed as we unbuckled our seatbelts.
"Just because you're older doesn't mean you have to baby me. I'll be fine, it's just one more day." I explained as we got out of the car and began walking to my door.
"I'll think about it." he promised.
"I have another question."
He threw his head back and sighed loudly and it made me laugh.
"Yes? What's your question?" he asked.
"Well now I don't wanna ask." I pretended to be upset so I crossed my arms and looked away from him.
"Okay. Bye then." he said and began walking back to his car.
"Asshole!" I yelled. He laughed and turned back around. "I'm kidding." he claimed.
"Give me your question." he instructed.
"You smoke, a lot. So much so that you're used to blowing smoke out of your nose. How are you able to workout let alone fight with black lungs?"
"Was that an attack?" he chuckled.
"Oh my god, no! I'm just wondering.." I tried to explain.
"Well, I don't eat junk food, if I'm not drinking alcohol or coffee then it's water. And I also do a lot of cardio so I guess it balances out. I don't know I didn't take anatomy." he shrugged and I snickered.
"I'd invite you inside but Kendall is probably ready to pounce as soon as I open the door." I guessed.
I opened the door slightly and heard a loud scream and stampeding footsteps then slammed it back closed.
"See?" I told him and he snickered.
Something slapped the window and I noticed Ken's face against it.
"Hi guys!" she said through the glass.
"Is she okay? Like...mentally?" he asked.

"Yea, she's just happier than most. Like a golden retriever. You get used to it." I explained.
"Kiss heeerrr!" Ken shouted through the window.
"GO TO YOUR ROOM!" I yelled and she sighed and left the glass.
"Sorry. Again, you'll get used to i-..." a hand held the side of my face and a pair of lips crashed against mine. He kissed me softly and I returned the favor before he let me go.
My first kiss was with a man that looked like the spawn of a Greek god. I need to lie down.
"Sorry I was just following directions." he shrugged.
I didn't know what to say.
"Are you okay?" he asked.
"What? Yea. I-...w-...umm..." I still didn't know what to say and he smiled and kissed me again. His hand grabbed onto my waist and pulled me closer to him as I kissed him back.
"YES!" I heard Kendall yell through the glass again and we stopped and looked at her. She panicked and ran away from the window. He snickered and put his lips back on mine.

"How did it go?! I need details!!!" Ken shouted as I walked into the kitchen.
"Ken it's 10 in the morning. Can you not?" I begged as I made my coffee.
"I can not when you can do." she stated.
"GIRL WHAT?!" I said in confusion.
"I don't know JUST GIVE ME DETAILS!" she begged.
I sighed and then went on to tell her about all the things I learned about him when I asked him questions. I tried my hardest to hide the fight ring details but I was torn between telling her because she's my best friend so we don't keep secrets and the promise I gave Eli. But then again that secret isn't mine to tell.
"He's 6'4?!" she yelled. "Yes." I replied.
"Oh god, I'm so sorry for your insides."
"What?" I asked.
"Nothing." she said with a smile.
I looked at her with a confused expression.
Knocking beat on our front door.
"I got it." Ken offered.
She went to open it and I could hear her giddiness.
"Hey, Jesse."
"What's up?" he said with a smile.
"I'm here too." I heard Cameron say.
"Hello, Cameron." she said unenthusiastically.
"Asshole." he said back. They walked inside and Jesse immediately sat on the kitchen counter.
"What's for breakfast?" he asked.
"Coffee." I replied.
"That's it?" asked Cam.
"Boy, I am not your mother." I responded.
They both groaned and rolled their eyes.
"What're we doin' today? It's Saturday and everybody's off." Cam stated.
"I have to go to the gym." I answered.
"You go to the gym during the day?" Jesse asked.
"You don't?"
"No, the gym at night hits different." Cam replied. "But if you need someone to spot you then..."
"I'll manage." I said and pat him on his shoulder while I walked to my room to change.
I put on a black sports bra and tights to match then headed back into the kitchen with my bag.
"Where are the rest of your clothes?" Jesse asked.
"All of the clothes that are supposed to be on my body, are there." I said and went through our fridge to grab a bunch of fruit and spinach.
"Have I ever told you that you exhaust me?" he asked and I snickered.
"Did Leyla tell you guys about her date last night?" Ken asked while I was stuffing things into my blender to make a smoothie.
"KENDALL!" I shouted as I started the machine.
"What-" Jesse asked.
"You're cheating on me, bae?" Cam wondered and Jesse smacked him in the back of his head.
"Sorry..." Ken mouthed to me.
"A date with who?!" Jesse asked.
"Well would ya look at the time? I've gotta go." I took the blending cup and my bag and began walking to the door.
"Get back here!" Jesse shouted.
"I can't hear you!" I walked out the door and closed it behind me.
I quickly got in my car and started it then drove to the gym.

The Ruined Monks of Rothfield Monastery
Erin is the youngest member of the dark monks; a supernatural brotherhood whose ultimate mission is to improve the dire circumstances of poor, war-torn villages using powers unique to each member. Or so he was led to believe. Erin, like his brothers, does not age, and that is, unfortunately, the only trait he shares with them. He cannot charm or compel like Woodrow, he cannot cast illusions like Knox, he was not swift like Swithin, not powerful like Blake. He was barely an assistant to his dear brother Wilbur, with his herbology and alchemy. He was told to lie low and make himself scarce. That is what he did. The dark monks temporarily reside in abandoned monasteries scattered around the country, feeding the poor and healing the sick, nurturing the monastic lands until it was fertile enough to raise crops and rear animals. As the years passed, they would leave these reformed, repopulated, self-sustaining monasteries and venture froth to help the next settlement. Yet, after years of toiling and quiet servitude, Erin notices that people and the country itself are declining. The villagers look gaunt, the once-lush soil now barren and cracked. He begins to feel disheartened, thinking that their mission is proving futile. Still, their leader Blake is steadfast and charges onward, and lately has his eyes set on a certain monastery in a thick, thorned forest that seems to diminish, even nullify their powers. A thick forest that Erin somehow has a connection to. A thorned glade where an ethereal voice calls his name with one simple request along with a promise:Heal the land, child. Heal the land and I promise to give you sanctuary so long as you stay. I promise to nurture you as you nurture me. As Erin cultivates the land, the land, in turn, gifts all its caretakers with new, enhanced skillsets on top of their unique powers -- skills of protection, healing, and magic. Magic. Erin had long wished to see the world fill with it again. The people, regardless of common or noble blood, still believe that magic will enter this world again. Magic to bless the king like it did the Saints. Magic to dispel the miasma befouling the world. Magic to bring back the fae folk and their many forms. It is up to Erin to forge the many paths leading to a bright future; to build a prosperous paradise that welcomes all races and bloodlines, by mastering the rewards gained through agriculture, horticulture, and animal husbandry, smithing, crafting, and fishing. Erin may also find a lifelong friendship and romance with his neighbor, Claude, if he decides to pursue him, and may even join him in the military campaign outside the monastery. The darkness still lurks outside, after all, and the mastery of his skills, along with a few good friends, may finally be enough to turn the tide in their favor. Most of all, Erin wants to keep the vow he set for himself: to protect everyone and everything he loves until his dying breath.
