《Elijah》5

"A DATE?!" Kendall had been shouting that for the past three minutes in different tones.

"I guess. Maybe more of an outing?" I corrected her.

"No, that is a DATE." she swore.

"For it to be a date he'd have to like me."

She glared at me like she was gonna hit me.

"I'm gonna hit you."

See.

"Why?" I asked.

"Because you're an idiot. You're so hard on yourself. You're hot, Leyla. You refuse to believe it's possible for people to be attracted to you. You're literally one of the most beautiful people I've ever seen. Act like it."

I just looked at her.

"And he's hot. You two would be beautiful together."

Again, I didn't know what to say.

"WE NEED TO GO SHOPPING!" she shouted.

"Why?"

"Because nothing you have is good enough for this beautiful occasion." she stated.

"It's just dinner..."

"Dinner, with a man, who works at a law firm. HE IS A LAWYER! You're not going through a drive thru," she insisted.

"Okay. Fine." I agreed. "When are we going?"

She grabbed her keys and I heard them jingle as she walked to the door.

"Right now."

We were at the mall and she'd dragged me to three stores so far.

"Wait, let's go to this one," she said and pulled me into a fourth. "They have really nice dresses." she claimed.

When we walked inside we went our separate ways but it wasn't long before she handed me an armful of dresses.

"Can you try these on?" she asked.

I went to the fitting room and began trying out everything like she asked of me.

First up, was a mid thigh length silk and royal blue dress with a split on the side.

Second, was a red dress similar to the black one I wore for my birthday.

Third, was a baby pink silk dress that was a bit flow-y and could pass as a lingerie style nightgown.

Fourth, was a white dress with one sleeve.

"So?" I asked after showing them all.

"I'm torn between red and royal blue." she said while stroking her chin as if she had a beard. "Pink isn't classy enough and I think white is for more daytime and professional outings."

"I'll go with royal blue since the red one is so much like yesterday's dress." I explained.

"That's fair. It compliments your skin."

We put the other dresses back and checked out with the royal blue.

...

"I'm so excited!" she shouted and closed her eyes tightly for a second.

"Eyes on the fucking road, idiot!" I yelled at her.

"I'm sorry, I'm just pumped!" she claimed.

"Why?"

"You've never been on a real date before. I feel like a proud mom," she joked.

"Please don't embarrass me," I begged as if she really was a proud mom.

"Do you think you'll...you know..." she asked with a sassy and mischievous grin.

"Kendall, I am a virgin, I'm not sleeping with some random man on the first date."

"Valid." she agreed.

We pulled into our driveway and hopped out of the car. "You need your beauty rest. I expect clear and glowing skin tomorrow," she stated as we got to the door and she inserted the key.

"That means go to bed right now." she reiterated.

"Oh my god, what're you my mother?" I asked.

She opened the door then pointed in the direction of my room to demand I go there. I rolled my eyes and took the path.

"I'm so excited...and I just can't hide it..." she sang in a whisper.

All day at work I'd been thinking about later tonight.

What if I fuck up?

What if I'm awkward?

What if he tries to kiss me?

What if I eat weird? Has anyone ever told me I eat weird?

What if I have something in my teeth later and don't know it? It's probably best that I don't get spinach.

"Leyla?!" Marissa shouted.

"Huh?" I replied after snapping out of it.

"I've called you four times, love, what's got you in such deep thought?" she asked and leaned against my desk with papers in her hand.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I'm a bit anxious." I explained.

"Well I can see that. Your leg has been jumping for

about ten minutes and you keep toying with your pen. What's up?" she asked.

"I umm, I have a date tonight."

"Oh wow, that's good. What's the problem?"

"It's my first one..."

"Aren't you like 20?" she asked.

"Well, yea, I know it sounds ridiculous but I wasn't one of those kinds of teenagers. I was an athlete that lived on the court or at the gym. If it wasn't practice or a game then I didn't do it. So I'm kind of behind on...intimate...things." I tried to explain to the best of my abilities. "Now that I think about it, I've missed the gym twice in a row this week. Well three if you count tonight...I should really get on that."

She snickered.

"Well I see what you mean and it's understandable for you to be nervous but you're a beautiful and very intelligent young lady. You're funny and charismatic. If you ask me I think it'll go just fine. They knew what they were doing when they asked you out," she said with a smile.

This is why I loved Marissa, there isn't a pessimistic bone in her body. She's always positive and wearing a smile. She reminds me of an older Kendall, just less hyper.

"Thank you." I smiled.

"Of course."

After my hours were over I left and headed back home to get ready.

"AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!" Kendall screamed and startled me as I entered through the door. "I WAS LITERALLY WATCHING THE CLOCK AT WORK ALL DAY!!!" she shouted. "LETS GO!"

I didn't even have a second to catch my breath before she yanked me throughout the house and to my room.

"GET DRESSED!" she yelled.

"How much will it cost to get you to STOP YELLING?!" I asked.

"NOT EVEN ALL OF THE MONEY IN THE WORLD!" she claimed.

I rolled my eyes and began to get dressed.

I was a bit shy since I'd have to be braless for the dress I chose but I brushed it off and finished putting it on.

"Nice tits homie," Ken said and slapped my chest.

"Dude!" I yelled.

"What? Come on, it's time to go paint your face." she said and grabbed my wrist to lead me out.

"Must you drag me everywhere? I know where our bathroom is."

We got there and got to work.

...

She finally finished and made me look in the mirror.

"Ugh, You're so pretty." she claimed.

"Thank you but you know I know how to do makeup right?" I wondered.

"Yea, but where's the fun in that?" she asked with a cocked brow. "It's 7:45, you have 15 minutes left. UGH, I'M SO EXCITEEEDDDD!!!"

I laughed.

"I GET IT!!!" I snickered.

"Want a good luck shot?" she asked with an evil grin.

"How many times should I tell you I hate alcohol?"

"You're no fun to me."

"Thank you." I responded sarcastically.

A knock sounded at the door and Kendall checked the time.

"AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH! Three minutes early. He's eager. Love that," she said then danced to the door.

"Or he's punctual," I said as I got out of my seat.

Ken opened the door then of course enthusiastically shouted, "HELLOOOO, ELI!"

"Hi." he replied.

I walked over to the door by them and finally saw him.

He, too, had on royal blue. It was a royal blue dress shirt and black pants.

"Awww, you match!" Kendall pointed out. She leaned over to me and whispered. "Told you he was the one." I pushed her away from me.

"Well, you kids have fun," she insisted and nudged me out of the door. "Do something I would do."

"Isn't the saying 'don't do anything I wouldn't do'?" Eli questioned.

"I said what I said, Elijah."

"Right..."

"Get outta here!" she yelled and forced me out of the door. She slammed it closed and I just stood there looking at it.

"Idiot..." I mumbled.

"You ready?" he asked.

"Yea," I replied.
