《Demigods Meet Mortals》Constance Brock (Jason Grace)

I fell to the ground when the sword came at me, scrambling to get back on my feet. We were having a self-defence course against monsters, today was our first lesson, and we were lucky enough to be one of the classes taught by two demigods: Annabeth Chase and Thalia. It must've been a minute since I started sparring with Jason Grace, but I was already exhausted.

My muscles ached, the wooden sword felt ridiculously heavy in my grip, which made me question how demigods could carry Imperial Gold and Celestial Bronze weapons everywhere they go. I swung my sword at Jason, the blond cursing when he dropped his sword as he tried to block the attack. I wasn't any good, but Jason wasn't good at all. The blond was good at every other class he took, but sword-fighting clearly wasn't on his list of talents, which made me feel good about myself.

Jason came to Mt Roskill High halfway through the year, without nothing but a charming smile and dorky glasses. He didn't do any sports, instead choosing to be on the student council. Jason rose to the rank of president, and while that was impressive, Mt Roskill was one of those schools focused on sports. Meaning if you weren't sporty, you weren't popular.

As we fought, I found out just how clumsy Jason Grace was. He dropped his sword, tripped over it, and while almost every single one of my attacks made it, his sword didn't hit me once.

Luckily for poor Jason, Annabeth blew on her coach whistle. "Alright everyone, gather 'round. Now you'll be doing some one-on-one sparring with our lieutenant of the Hunters, Thalia." The blond announced, a proud grin on her face. Since she was the daughter of Athena, Annabeth was teaching us mostly about how to fight back and deal with different situations, while Thalia taught us how to actually fight with a sword.

"So we'll need a volunteer. . ." Annabeth's voice trailed off as she scanned our group of twenty or so kids. Everyone had their hand up except for Jason, who seemed about ready to crawl into the ground. When Annabeth saw the blond, her eyes narrowed, and her smile broadened. Thalia caught her eye, and raised an eyebrow when she saw Jason.

"Jason, come on up." The daughter of Zeus said, and I frowned. When did Thalia learn my sparring buddy's name?

With a groan and an inaudible curse, Jason made his way to the middle of our circle of students, stumbling as he tried to get into a fighting stance, resulting in half our class falling into a pool of snickers as they watched. Thalia seemed puzzled at Jason's behaviour, as if him struggling wasn't meant to happen.

"What's wrong little--"

Jason's eyes widened at Thalia's words, spinning his sword once to get it in the right grip before swinging the weapon, eliciting a grin from Thalia before she started swinging her sword back at Jason. I gawked, watching the two fight like experts. The two fought all over the gym, vaulting off each other, the walls, aerial cartwheeling around as they fought.

In a few minutes, Jason had Thalia's hunting knife at her throat, his own wooden sword at the small of her back. Jason smirked, dropping both weapons when everyone started applauding. Jason spun around to face all of us, Thalia grinning widely when she saw the blond's expression.

"How did you do that Grace?" Derek Chan asked, he was also in my English class with Mrs. Robinson. Jason let out an unintelligible sound, fingering a small gold coin in his hand. Jason looked flustered, his ears red.

Thalia seemed to be enjoying watching Jason squirm, and he slung an arm around Jason's neck, pressing a kiss to his forehead. It didn't look romantic at all, but it still made no sense. The two didn't look like they were related, but that would mean Thalia was breaking her vow as a hunter.

It puzzled me why Artemis hasn't shown up, after all, her lieutenant was breaking her vow as a hunter. "Wait--isn't Thalia a hunter, and how is Jason so good at sword-fighting all of a sudden?" Derek Chan asked, and I frowned. Derek was right.

Thalia jumped away from Jason in a heartbeat, a disgusted look on her face. Jason scowled. "I don't think I'm that bad of a boyfriend." He grumbled, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose at the same time. Annabeth raised an eyebrow, looking up from the clipboard she had been scribbling on.

"I think Piper would beg to differ."

Jason sputtered at Annabeth's words, before he paused, and nodded begrudgingly. The daughter of Athena grinned, before turning to us.

"Might as well." She seemed to muse, and Jason sighed. He opened his mouth to speak when Thalia jumped in front of him, cutting off Jason's words.

"This is Jason Grace, demigod son of Jupiter, one of the seven demigods from the recent war with dear-old Mother Earth." Thalia boasted, and Annabeth laughed at her friend's antics. I frowned. "But that doesn't explain why you kissed him." I called out, and Thalia covered her face with her hands, exasperated.

Annabeth cut in. "Jupiter is the Roman form of Zeus, meaning they're half-siblings. But they're full siblings as well." She said with an eyebrow raised, as if we were more stupid than she had expected.

Jason saluted for the fun of it after Thalia's introduction. "Jason Grace, son of Jupiter, brother of Thalia, at your service." He said, and frowned immediately.

"Actually, not at your service."
