《Hiraeth || F. Meizuo》Chapter 41

We stayed there for a couple of hours and I basically told her everything from what Auntie Jade and Uncle Liu told me to what Meizuo and Ximen had dug up.
"It must have been tough for you when you found out.." She trailed off, looking at me with pity in her eyes as I held back my tears and gave her a small smile.
"Yeah.. 23 years. I guess that explains why 'dad' never seemed to like me. But I was lucky with my 'mom' and Jing, they didn't treat me any different even if I wasn't related to them. Nevertheless, they gave me a good life and I grew up okay." I reassured her and she smiled gratefully.
"I'm glad Jing and Mrs. Tengtang treated you well and I'm glad that they gave you a good life despite the circumstances." She said as she sipped her drink.
"Sooyeon.." I asked as she hummed in response.
"Do you think my 'parents' may have had something to do with my disappearance?" I timidly asked and she sighed.
"I don't want to say something about them but I do suspect that Mr. Tengtang may have had something to do with it and fabricated a story to tell your employees as well as your sister Jing. If I understood correctly, she was still young when you were taken in right?" She asked and I nodded.
"Shuijing, I don't want to pressure you or anything but would you be willing to take a DNA test?" She asked and I looked at her silently.
"I- I understand if you don't-" She said in a weak voice but I interrupted her.
"Can I have some time to think about it?" I asked and she offered me a smile and nodded in response.

I arrived at Mingde and headed for the boys' classroom. I assumed classes were over but I stopped a fellow student just to be sure.
"Um.. excuse me?" I asked as I tapped the boy's shoulder making him face me with a red face.
"S-S-shuijing! Um.. wh-what can I help you with?" He stammered as his friends stifled their laughter.
"Have you seen the F4 by any chance?" I asked and he nodded.
"Y-yes. They are in classroom T-8. J-just go straight then turn left on that corner." He answered, pointing me in the right direction.
"Oh, I see. Thank you!" I smiled at him before walking away. I laughed as I heard his friends telling him how lucky he was to have talked to Tengtang Shuijing.

I walked inside the empty classroom and saw the boys, minus Ah Si, packing their things. Ximen turned his head and gave me a smile while waving, prompting Meizuo to smile and meet me halfway as I walked down the steps of the aisle. He took my hand in his and lightly kissed my cheek in greeting as we walked down to where Ximen and Lei were.
"Hey. Shui. So how'd it go?" Ximen asked, playing with a deck of cards as I leaned against Meizuo who pulled me closer to him.
"Later." I said before turning to Lei.
"Lei, what's going on?" I asked, turning to the person in question.
"What do you mean?" He answered calmly and I sighed.
"Why are you suddenly pursuing Shancai?" I asked again and he sighed before facing me.
"I like her. Ah Si doesn't want anything to do with her and I don't want to see her cry again." He explained and I smiled sadly. I understood that he wanted to protect Shancai but I was sad that Ah Si was giving up on her.
"Lei, you've always avoided getting involved before. Why is it different this time?" Ximen asked.
"Lei, do you know what you're doing? I really don't understand you anymore." Meizuo interjected as I hugged his torso to calm him down.
"Meizuo, it's not that you don't understand me. The circumstances are different this time. Do you think Daoming Si and Shancai can be together again?" Lei asked and I slowly realized what he was doing. He wasn't taking Shancai away from Ah Si but he was doing the opposite.
"We're not sure. But since you got involved, this matter has gotten worse. There's no more room for negotiation." Ximen answered, keeping his eyes on Lei.
"Maybe. What does Ah Si think?" Lei asked, a hint of a smile on his face.
"You're even smiling. Do you know Ah Si got so drunk last night? He said he was celebrating for you and Shancai. What celebration? Ximen and I knew that he just wanted to escape the pain." Meizuo angrily stated as he took a step closer to Lei and I slowly rubbed his arm to calm him down, making him turn back and offer me a small smile.
'Calm down' I mouthed and he nodded and breathed deeply before turning back to Lei.
"You know we're not siding with Ah Si. But do you really need to do this? Must Shancai be Jing's replacement?" Ximen said and I flinched when I heard Jie's name come up and so did Lei who turned back at Ximen with an angry look in his eyes.

"Don't say things like that. Shancai is not Jing's replacement. They're different individuals. No person can replace another." Lei stated and I smiled as he defended both Shancai and Jie.
"You even asked for a fair competition. You're just adding insult to injury!" Ximen shouted as he grabbed Lei by the collar and Meizuo moved to stop him. Lei's expression remained calm as he looked at Ximen who still kept a stronghold on him.
"Ximen. Lei is not like that. Don't say those things to him. Lei, explain yourself." Meizuo said as Lei pushed Ximen away.
"Instead of arguing with me, you should remind Ah Si not to escape reality and be honest with himself." Lei said before walking out of the classroom.
"Lei!" I called out as I attempted to follow him before being pulled back with Meizuo.
"Where are you going?" He asked and I slowly removed his hand on my arm.
"I just need to talk to him okay? I won't be long Zuo." I reassured with and he sighed before nodding.
"Okay, I'll wait for you by the fountain." He said and I nodded as he kissed my forehead before I went out of the classroom.

"Lei! Hey! Wait up!" I called out to Lei who turned back and stopped walking.
"Did you need something Shui?" He asked and I smiled slightly.
"Can we talk?" I asked and he nodded before leading me to seat on a nearby bench.
"Lei, are you sure about what you're doing? What if Ah Si doesn't catch on?" I asked and he gave me a small smile.
"I believe he will Shui. Not now but soon. Besides, if Ah Si doesn't realize how much he still loves Shancai, he'll regret it for the rest of his life." Lei said and I nodded in approval.
"You're right. But is it enough time? You're all graduating next week and soon, you'll be going abroad to study aren't you?" I asked, giving him a sad smile.
"It's more than enough Shui. Ah Si will come through, I know he will." He reassured me, lightly patting my head.
"I'll miss you. Jie left and now you're leaving.." I sadly said, tears threatening to fall from my eyes.
"Hey.. Don't cry Shui or else I'm gonna get an earful from Meizuo if someone sees you crying." He teased, pulling me in for a hug as I wrapped my arms around his torso.
"S-s-orry. I can't help it." I choked out as he rubbed my back.
"I'll always be here for you okay? A thousand miles isn't gonna keep me from being there for you." He said as he lightly kissed my hair and hugged me tighter.

Meizuo and I were at my house just watching a movie after dinner. We were lying on the couch, arms wrapped around each other. I sighed in contentment as I hugged my boyfriend tighter. He lightly chuckled and kissed my forehead fondly.
"Hey. Shui. We still haven't talked about what happened with Sooyeon? Was everything okay?" He asked, looking at me.
"She wants me to undergo a DNA test." I answered, looking at him. His eyebrows furrowed as he pulled me closer.
"And? Did you say yes?" He asked, holding my hand.
"I told her I'd think about it and right now, my heart wants to say no but my mind wants me to do it." I explained, grasping his hand tighter.
"Shui, look at me." He said, lifting my chin up to look at him.
"Whatever decision you make, I will support you okay? You don't have to force yourself to do it if you don't want to. " He said before lifting my hand to his lips, placing a small kiss on it. I smiled in appreciation as I caressed his face.
"Thank you Zuo. I love you so much." I said and he smiled brightly, grasping the hand that was on his cheek before pulling me towards his lips.
