《Hiraeth || F. Meizuo》Chapter 40

I looked at him in shock.
"What do you mean you found my real family? I thought you and Ximen couldn't find anything?" I said.
"I know but I took a closer look at the wax seal Aunt Jade gave you and found this.." Meizuo said as he led me to the couch and showed me his laptop. My eyes widened in disbelief.
"But-that's.."
"I know."
"That logo-its'-" I said, my head shaking in disbelief. Meizuo held my hand in comfort.
"Calm down Shui." He said as he pulled me closer as I continued to stare at the all too familiar logo on his laptop.
THE NEXT DAY
"Shuijing? Shui, come on. Open the door." I heard Meizuo on the other side as he knocked on my door. I didn't answer and I heard him sigh followed by the sound of my door opening.
"Shui. Shui come on. You can't stay buried under there forever." He said as he tried to take off the duvet but I pulled it closer to me, burying myself deeper.
"Tengtang Shuijing."
"Don't call me that." I said.
"What?" he asked and I sighed as I pulled off the duvet and sat up, looking up at my confused boyfriend's face.
"Don't call me Tengtang Shuijing. That's not my name." I said, my voice cracking. Meizuo sat down in front of me, pulling me into his arms which made the tears I was holding back fall freely.
"I-I don't know what to do Zuo.. Are they really my pare-nts? Is Sooyeon my sister and n-n-not Jing jie? W-w-w-wh-who a-a-m I?" I sobbed, burying my face in my hands and Meizuo hugged me tighter.
If Sooyeon and Mr and Mrs. Jung were really my parents, what happened to me? Why was I taken from them?
Were 'Mom' and 'Dad' the perpetrators of my said 'kidnapping'? If so, them why?
Why?
Who was I?
We stayed like that for a couple more hours before Meizuo pulled away.
"We're gonna have to ask them at some point Shui. What if the daughter they thought was dead is really you?" Meizuo said and I sighed.
"I know Zuo. I'm just scared of what happens after. What if I'm not the daughter they've been missing? What if I'm just a nameless nobody? Or as Ah Si's mom put it: an orphan." I said, looking down at my hands, prompting Meizuo to hold them.
"Shui, look at me." He said but I shook my head causing him to sigh.
"Please." He said and I slowly lifted my head to look at him.
"You're not a nobody. You're everything to me. I don't care if you're the heiress of the Tengtang Investment Group or the long lost daughter of the BLANC & ECLARE Trading Group. To me, you're just Shuijing. The girl I love the most in this world and the girl I'm going to marry someday." He said, placing a sweet kiss on the back of my hand and offering me a kind smile. I smiled back as he leaned in as his lips met mine.
THE NEXT DAY
Meizuo and I were meeting Sooyeon, Tyler, and Mr. and Mrs. Jung at their house for lunch. To say that I was nervous was an understatement. I didn't know if it was true or not but I didn't want to be told wrong either.
"Shui? You ready?" I heard Meizuo ask as he popped his head in the doorway. He was dressed in a white t-shirt tucked into light beige trousers and a matching oversized coat that reached his ankles and the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. He had on black sneakers and a silver necklace that I got him for his birthday.

"Well don't you look dashing Zuo." I teased as I gave him a smile. He smiled back and held my hand, twirling me around.
"And you, my love, are a goddess." He said, briefly kissing my cheek. I had on a flowy white spaghetti strapped sweetheart neck-lined dress that reached just a little below my knees and had small roses all throughout the dress. The back was neatly tied with a black satin ribbon. I had on some black ankle strap heels and a matching black purse. My hair was slightly curled and a pale pink color was painted on my lips. On my neck was a small gold pendant that was a Valentine's gift from Meizuo and the ring he got me rested on my right ring finger.
I giggled as he twirled me around again before heading out to my car and driving to the Jung mansion.
"Shuijing! Meizuo!" Sooyeon yelled as she waved happily at us. She had on a black and red polka dot puffy long-sleeved romper that had a matching ribbon necktie. She had on red ankle strap wedges and her hair was pulled back into a low ponytail. She had minimal makeup and long diamond drop earrings.
"So glad you guys are here." She greeted as she hugged me and Meizuo.
"Thank you for having us." I replied, smiling at the older girl.
"Well, come in. Lunch is about to be served." She said, walking inside as Meizuo and I followed, hand in hand.
Sooyeon led us to the garden where Tyler and her parents were. They were seated inside a marble gazebo. There was a large table with an abundance of food and a fresh bouquet of flowers was placed in the center of the table.
As we approached, I could feel my heartbeat faster and faster. Mr and Mrs Jung gave me a warm smile and Tyler proceeded to show us to our seats.
"Nice of you dears to join us. Well, come now. Let's eat." Mrs. Jung said as she smiled at me and Zuo. Zuo secretly held my hand under the table, giving me a small smile. 'Relax.' He mouthed and I nodded with a smile.
We began to eat and talk about random things.
After a while, I took a deep breath before asking Sooyeon about BLANC & ECLARE. She then proceeded to talk about its history and how she and Tyler worked together.
"Actually Mom was a huge factor in the brand's aesthetic and style." She said.
"Why?" I asked curiously.
"Well, I've always been interested in fashion but Mom was a huge influence and she always said that I should make it my own rather than following trends. Travel had a lot to do with it too." She explained and I nodded, giving Meizuo a side-eye glance.
"And what about the logo? Why BLANC & ECLARE?" Meizuo asked.
"Tyler had suggested the name to me and as for the logo well, we had an old one that we used when mom was still managing it as the CEO before she passed it down to me. It was like this gold intricate seal with cursive lettering. It was the one she made in honor of my younger sister who was born that very year. We changed it eventually after I had taken over the brand." She said and my breath caught in my throat. I shakily reached inside my bag and took out a small plastic that contained a gold wax seal.
"This o-one?" I said, handing it to her, causing her eyes to widen.

"W-w-here did you get this?" She said as she stared at it, holding it in her hands. I kept my head down when I felt someone gently grab my hand.
"S-s-soojung? Is that you?" Mrs Jung said as she carefully caressed my face with tears in her eyes. I didn't even notice I was crying too.
"Mom, that's not possible. Soojung's . The kidnappers sent us a bloody piece of her shoe. The blood matched Soojung's." Sooyeon firmly stated.
"But the police didn't find a body! They could have been wrong or they could have scraped her! To make it look like she was dead!" Mrs. Jung aggressively said as more tears came down.
"Soojung? You're our Soojung right? You've come back.." I heard Mr. Jung say as he walked closer and looked at me. My tears continued to flow.
"I-i- I don't know. I-'m sorry! I- I have to go!" I said before running out, Meizuo following close behind me as we ignored their pleas to come back.
When I reached my car, I slowly slid down to the ground and sobbed. So many thoughts ran through my head as I continued to sob.
Were they my real parents? What happened to their other daughter all those years ago? Was I her? Was I Soojung? If I was then do 'my parents' know who kidnapped me?
My heart felt like it was going to burst. I felt so confused.
"Shh. It's okay Shui." I felt Meizuo hug me tight as he rubbed my back in comfort while I sobbed into his chest.
"I- I don't-" I tried speaking amidst my crying but Meizuo held me tighter.
"Just let it out Shui...It's okay. I'm right here." He whispered, kissing my forehead as he continued to hug me.
I avoided Sooyeon's calls for the next couple of days. I wasn't ready to face her and her parents after what had happened.
I was scared. Scared not just because of the possibility of me being their daughter was true but also because of the disappointment I would feel if the said claim wasn't true.
Meizuo and I were walking to the club room in Mingde where Ah Si and Ximen were. Ximen told us to hurry up because something was wrong with Ah Si. I held hands with Meizuo as we walked down the stairs and looked to see Ah Si drinking alcohol. I frowned as Meizuo looked at me.
"Hey! Shuijing! Meizuo! You're here finally! We can celebrate!" Ah Si cheered, clearly drunk.
We walked towards the couch where Ximen was seated on a separate chair while Ah Si sat on the chair opposite to him. I sat beside Meizuo on the couch as Ah Si poured us drinks.
"Ah Si, why are you drinking so much?" Ximen asked.
"What's wrong? I'm happy. Can't I drink to celebrate?" Ah Si answered, his eyes blurry with tears. Oh no. Did something happen between him and Shancai?
"Celebrate? What are you celebrating?" Meizuo asked, confused as to why his friend was drinking at 3 in the afternoon.
"To celebrate that Lei and Shancai are officially dating." Ah Si answered and my eyes widened. Ximen choked on his drink.
"How is that possible? Are you drunk?" I asked, refusing to believe what I heard.
"No. I'm very sober. After all this time, I'm the most sober now." Ah Si said, trying to hide the sadness in his voice.
"How could that happen? Has Lei already decided?" Ximen asked, turning to me and Meizuo.
"What's your plan?" Meizuo asked Ah Si.
"What do you mean? I wish them well, of course. Don't you think this is great?" Ah Si said, smiling with tears in his eyes.
"Ah Si, cut it out. How can you not care at all? Do you want to kick Lei out of F4 like before?" Ximen said.
"No. Why would I do that? Lei said I should wish him well, just like he did before." Ah Si said as he downed another shot of alcohol.
"Ah Si, this is not you. Listen carefully. If you really give her up this time, you might not have a chance anymore." Meizuo stated in frustration at his friend.
"And that's Lei. It'll be more complicated now. If you regret it later, you'll lose both friendship and love. Have you thought it out?" I pointed out.
"Shancai and I are done." Ah Si said, defeated.
"Are you saying you don't care who Shancai will be seeing?" I asked, trying to hide my annoyance at Ah Si. Why was he giving up so easily?
"Of course! Come on. Let's toast for Lei!" Ah Si yelled, raising the bottle of alcohol to us but we just stared at him. He downed the alcohol.
"Ah Si, you..." Meizuo said, trying to stop Ah Si but relented.
"Don't you think they're actually quite a match? A stupid girl... and a sleepyhead who sleeps all the time." Ah Si said as he leaned back on his chair, laughing slightly.
"Ah Si. That's enough" Ximen said as we looked at Ah Si who stopped laughing before finally breaking down in tears. Sobbing painfully for his lost love.
I frowned as my heart broke for the two of them. The last time I saw Ah Si this sad was when his father died.
Why can't things get easier?
After we took Ah Si home, the three of us (me, Ximen, and Meizuo) headed to the docks to talk. I handed Ximen and Meizuo their drinks (apparently, they were in the mood for alcohol after the whole Ah Si ordeal). I sat between the two of them, eating the small tub of ice cream I bought in the corner store.
"Why is this world so messed up? Why can't it be peaceful and happy?" I complained as Meizuo wrapped his arm around my shoulder, pulling me close to him.
"If it was Shui, it would be less interesting and too boring." Ximen stated and I frowned, despite knowing he was right.
"Ah Si is going to regret this." Meizuo said and I nodded in agreement.
"He's gonna have a hard time winning her back when he realizes what an idiot he is for not fighting for her." Ximen added.
"Well I believe they'll be together again but I'm worried about Lei. If Ah Si does come chasing after Shancai again, what would happen to Lei? He'll get hurt again. He already lost Jie and now Shancai." I said, tears threatening to pour out of my eyes.
"I don't know Shui. I really don't know.." Ximen said, giving a kind smile.
"We have to talk to Lei tomorrow. He knows how much Shancai means to Ah Si. He said he won't pursue Shancai if Ah Si liked her so why is he stepping in now?" Meizuo stated and Ximen and I sighed.
We sat there for a few minutes in comfortable silence when my phone rang. I sighed as I saw the caller ID. Jung Sooyeon.
"You should talk to her Shui." Meizuo said, looking over my shoulder as I shut my phone off.
"B-but-" I tried protesting but Ximen cut me off.
"Meizuo's right Shui. You gotta face this and find out for yourself if they really are your real family." Ximen said and Meizuo nodded in agreement. I sighed and playfully glared at the two of them.
"You know, I really hate the two of you sometimes." I said as they both laughed. Meizuo kissed my hair and Ximen moved to do the same only to be stopped by Meizuo who lightly smacked his shoulder and moved me behind him as if to shield me from Ximen.
THE NEXT DAY
I was meeting up with Sooyeon for lunch to talk and Meizuo was driving me there before he headed for his next class at Mingde after that I would follow and we would talk to Lei.
Meizuo drove me to the restaurant and I nervously fidgeted. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath to calm myself down when I felt Meizuo hold my hand.
"It'll be okay Shui." He reassured as he kissed the back of my hand. I smiled and nodded as I straightened out my clothes and lightly fluffed my hair.
"Do I look okay?" I asked as I looked at Meizuo's mirror. I was dressed in a black oversized wool knitted sweater tucked into dark blue high waisted flare legged jeans with a black leather belt and some black blocked heeled ankle boots. Around my neck was a small silver star pendant that was a gift from Jing jie.
"Shui, you could wear a potato sack for all I care and I'd still think you're the most beautiful girl in the world." Meizuo flirted as he looked at me.
"Go. Get to class. I'll call you when we're done okay?" I said, lightly pecking his cheek and he smiled and nodded, lightly kissing my cheek before I got out and waved goodbye to him.
I walked inside and saw a lady wearing a black long sleeved top tucked into light blue trousers. On top of her head was a black leather beret and she had on black and red stilettos. She also carried a small white crossbody bag.
"Sooyeon?" I said as I approached her and she gave me a kind smile.
"Hey. Shuijing, please take a seat." She said as she gestured to the seat. I sat down and gave her a smile.
"So..I wanted to talk about the possibility of you being my little sister. I have a lot of questions." She said, folding her hands on the table.
"What do you wanna know?" I asked.
"Everything." She answered.
Oh boy, this is gonna be a lonngggg lunch.
