《Hiraeth || F. Meizuo》Chapter 26

"Where are you? What is taking so long?" Ah Si complained through the phone and I sighed.
"Calm down Ah Si! I'm near the gate okay? So calm your pineapple head!" I said as I hung up and walked out. I had just arrived from Paris and a 7-hour flight is less than relaxing when you're bombarded with at least 20 emails and messages from a bored and annoyed Daoming Si the moment your feet touch the ground.
It was cold in Canada with the snow and all but the sky was clear and was painted a beautiful shade of blue with the sun shining brightly.
I had on a plain black T-shirt tucked into black skinny jeans under a black zip-up leather jacket with some black suede block-heeled ankle boots and a light gray beanie. I held my phone and passport on one hand and my suitcase in the other. I also had on some black sunglasses and on my ring finger was a silver diamond-encrusted ring with a small opal stone in the middle.
"Shuijing!"I heard a voice call out and saw Ah Si at the end of the gate waving his arms like a crazy person. I laughed and walked faster to meet him halfway.
"Hey." I said as he pulled me in for a hug. His eyebrows furrowed.
"You look tired. You okay? You don't normally wear sunglasses." He pointed out and I nodded.
"Just sleepy Ah Si." I said and gave him a smile. He nodded and grabbed my suitcase from me as we walked out. He called over the car and asked the driver to place my suitcase in the trunk while I got in. He sat beside me.
"Get some sleep. I'll wake you up when we get there." He said as he pulled out his phone to call the housekeeper. I nodded as I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep.

I didn't know how long I was asleep for when I felt Ah Si shaking me awake.
"Shuijing. Get up, we're here." He said as I groaned and stretched. I looked out the window to see a gorgeous mansion on top of a hill. I smiled.
"Shui? Come on hurry up! I wanna go inside already!" Ah Si complained as he hurried to the house. I followed suit while the driver brought my luggage up to the house. Once I got inside, I looked around for the others but it was empty. Ah Si passed me a tub of mango ice cream and a spoon while he ate his vanilla flavored one.
"Where are they?" I asked as I opened the tub.
"Ximen texted me earlier. He said they were coming but that was an hour ago." He said as he sat down near the fire. I walked over and sat beside him. And not even five minutes later, I heard the door open.
"Why is the fireplace burning? Did the attendant come and prepare the fire first?" I heard a voice say and my heart slightly ached. I missed that voice.
"Daoming Si!" She heard Shancai's voice call out which made her turn around and face everyone.
"You're so late. What kind of plane can be that slow?" Ah Si complained as he stood up and offered me a hand as I stood up as well. I looked at them and smiled.
"Hey, guys." I said as I laughed. Lei smiled and came over to hug me.

"It's good to see you Shui." He said as he patted my back before pulling away and standing beside me.
"Shuijing!" Shancai exclaimed as she looked at me.
"Hi, Shancai. I forgot to give you my congratulations after the competition. Congratulations!" I said as I gave her a smile and she walked over and hugged me.
"Thank you so much for all your help!" She said as she pulled away and stood back as Ximen gave me a hug.
"You've gotten a lot thinner Shui. You need some food in your system or else you're gonna look like a skeleton." He joked as I hit him at the back of the head. I turned my head and saw Shancai's other friend.
"Hello again. Xiaoyou right? It's nice to see you again." I said as I offered her a kind smile.
"Ah Si, how did you arrive before us?" Ximen asked.
"Yes. I took the jet and I even had time to go around the city and eat ice cream." Ah Si answered and my eyebrows quirked up in confusion.
"You were asleep so I walked around in the square." He explained and I nodded in understanding, sitting back down on the couch near the fire. I could feel Meizuo's eyes on me but I ignored it and looked elsewhere.
"It's good that you're here." Lei supplied, sitting beside me as he grabbed a spoon and ate some of my ice cream. I smiled and leaned into him.
"Lei, aren't you cold?" Meizuo asked as he continued to stare at me and Lei.
"Eating ice cream in front of the fireplace sounds interesting." Lei answered and my eyes widened as he scooped out a big part of my ice cream and ate it. I gasped dramatically as Lei gave me a teasing smile. I laughed.
"Hi, Daoming Si." My ears perked up as the voices of two girls spoke up. I looked up and my face turned sour.
Xinhui and Baihe.
Those girls were always out for trouble and I'm still not over what they did to Shancai.
I stood up and walked over to Ah Si. The heels of my boots clicked against the wooden floor with each step I took. I crossed my arms and glared at the two girls who sheepishly looked at me in embarrassment.
"Who the hell invited you here?" I demanded as I continued to stare at them with disdain. They looked scared at turned to Shancai.
"Sh-Shancai invited us! We're her friends!" Xinhui stuttered and my eyebrows raised in question.
"Y-yes! That's right! Shancai, you invited us didn't you?" Baihe chimed in nervously and I turned to Shancai.
"Did you really Shancai?" I asked sternly. She looked unsure but she rapidly nodded her head.
"Yes! I did!" She nervously answered.
"Shancai, tell me the truth. Did they threaten you? Or worse, did they invite themselves here?" I spat, looking at the two girls.
"No. Shuijing, really. I invited them." Shancai answered and I sighed.
"All right. But let's be clear about something you two, if anything happens or goes wrong, especially if it involves Shancai. You better be ready cause there will be hell to pay." I threatened as I tossed my hair back and walked away. I stopped in front of Meizuo and saw him smile a little bit as he moved to take a step towards me but I grew nervous and hurriedly walked past him and headed upstairs.

I wasn't expecting her to be here but I wanted her to. I don't know if it was possible but she had gotten more beautiful. I smiled and fought back a laugh as she threatened Xinhui and Baihe. I stared as she stopped in front of me and I moved to give her a hug but she suddenly walked faster and headed upstairs.
I frowned as I stared at her.
"So she's still mad at me huh?" I said as I continued to stare up the stairs. Lei walked over and placed his hand on my shoulder.
"Give her time Meizuo. She can't stay mad at you forever." He said and I nodded but sighed.
"I hope so Lei. I hope so." I replied as I went to sit down. Shancai and Ah Si were bickering once again. I didn't bother to listen in as my mind drifted off to Shuijing. I just wanted her to talk to me or even acknowledge my presence. I sighed as I leaned back and closed my eyes. I hope this all works out fine.

It was about 6 pm when I had woken up from my nap. I was feeling a bit hungry so I grabbed my oversized cardigan, my phone, and headed downstairs. As I went down, I heard the front door slam which made me quicken my pace.
When I reached the hallway, they were all staring at the door and stood still. My eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"What's going on guys?" I asked as looked at them in confusion. She turned to Lei who looked particularly mad.
"Someone told Shancai that Xiaoyou went out for a night stroll." Lei said as his gaze turned to the dining room where Xinhui and Baihe were seated. My eyes narrowed.
What the hell did they do now?
"That's impossible. Have you seen the weather? Nobody should be out there." Ximen pointed out and I looked around for Ah Si.
"Ah Si went to look for her, didn't he?" I asked and Lei nodded. I took a deep breath as I looked at the weather outside. It was snowing heavily and the wind was blowing hard against the window.
We all headed to the dining room. Xinhui and Baihe looked uncomfortable. I sat in between Lei and unfortunately, Meizuo. Lei on my left and Meizuo on my right. Xiaoyou stood behind Ximen who was seating at the head of the table. Lei had mentioned that he went to look for Shancai first and it had been more than 2 hours since he last saw her.
"How did this happen? I hope nothing bad happens to Shancai."Xiaoyou said worriedly as she clasped her hands in nervousness.
"At the time, I really thought Xiaoyou went out to see the night sky." Xinhui said. I pursed my lips in irritation.
"Yeah. We really did see Xiaoyou go out the front door. That's why--" Baihe continued.
"I never went out." Xiaoyou answered.
"The thing is I didn't ask Shancai to go. But she herself--" Baihe was cut off when Lei threw a glass of wine at her. I was reeling in my anger.
As I said, I'm when I'm mad.
"Lei. You shouldn't do that." Meizuo said as Lei put his glass back down.
"What's a glass of wine compared to Shancai's life?" Lei retorted and I nodded in agreement.
"Yes. But I don't think anything would happen to Shancai." Xinhui defended and my eyes widened. I stood up and slammed my hands on the table.
"Are you serious? You don't think anything would happen to Shancai? It's minus 20 degrees outside. She's been out there for more than two hours. If she got stuck in the blizzard, she'd be dead. I thought you girls were desperate and stupid but I never thought you'd stoop this low to get to Ah Si. You're pathetic." I growled as Meizuo stood up and placed his arm around me, rubbing my shoulder to calm me down. I wasn't in the mood to push him away and just let him do it.
"You'd better pray that Ah Si finds her. Otherwise, you'll be murderers." Lei threateningly spat, making both girls quiver in fear.
"We...We didn't do it on purpose." Xinhui defended in desperation. I shook my head in anger.
"Still not admitting your mistake? How shameless." Ximen stated as he glared at the girls.
"It's my fault. If something happens to Shancai, what am I going to do?" Xiaoyou said as Ximen stood up to comfort her.
"She will be fine." Ximen said as he placed an arm over her shoulder. I held my ground and kept glaring at the two girls across from me. Meizuo continued to rub my shoulder.
"Calm down Shui. They'll be fine." He whispered as he rubbed circles on my arm.
"I'm going to call the SAR team. We need help." Lei said as he stood up and walked to the telephone.
"If Ah Si and Shancai don't come back, I'm kicking you both out of here. I don't care if you freeze to death but I will not allow murderers to stay under the same roof as me and the people I care about." I threatened as I walked away and headed upstairs to cool my head.
"Shui?" I turned around and saw that Meizuo had followed me with a worried expression on his face.
"What are you doing here?" I coldly asked.
"I know you're still mad at me but I don't want to leave you alone. Especially at a time like this." He said.
"I'm fine Meizuo." He flinched when I called him by his first name. I rarely called him that.
"Shui, I know you're trying to put on this facade that you're furious and will do anything to get back at those two but.." He started.
"But what?" I said as my eyebrows raised and I crossed my arms across my chest.
"You don't have to pretend to be strong around me Shui. I know you better than you know yourself." He said and my lip quivered as I tried to hold in my tears but failed as tears started rolling down my cheeks. Meizuo wrapped his arms around me as I sobbed and slowly wrapped my arms around his torso, hugging him tight.
"I'm scared Zuo. W-what if they don't come back? What if something bad happens? What'll happen to Shancai if Ah Si can't find her? What'll happen to Ah Si? What if they die-" I sobbed but he cut me off by hugging me harder, caressing my hair softly.
"They won't Shui. Ah Si is strong, you know that. He won't let anything happen to Shancai. He'll do anything to find her and keep her safe. So stop crying okay?" He said as he pulled back and placed a kiss on my forehead before wrapping his arms around me again.
I ignored the rapid beating of my heart and just continued to bury myself onto his chest, enjoying the warmth.
"Come on, let's head downstairs." He said as he tugged me along, grabbing my hand and intertwining his fingers with mine.
Lei was talking to the SAR team. Ximen was comforting Xiaoyou as she sobbed and her face was scrunched up in worry. I took a deep breath while Meizuo rubbed circles on my hands, trying to calm me down.
"I know it's still snowy outside. But my friends are in grave danger, you must help them or they will die." Lei exclaimed in English as he desperately called the SARS team.
"Well? What did they say?" Ximen asked as Lei placed the phone down.
"The blizzard is so bad they can't start searching. They told us not to go out on our own." Lei answered.
"No, I have to go look for Shancai. What if she doesn't come back?" Xiaoyou said, freaking out by the second.
What she said made me more nervous and tightened my hold on Meizuo's hand. He squeezed back and pulled me in for a side hug as I wrapped my arms around him.
"Xiaoyou, calm down. There are already two of them out there. It's riskier if you go too." Ximen told Xiaoyou as she continued to pace in nervousness.
"But if I hadn't nagged her about coming to Canada, this wouldn't have happened to Shancai." Xiaoyou said, letting out gasps of breath as she let her tears fall.
"Xiaoyou. Don't worry." Ximen reassured her.
"But Shancai..." Xiaoyou trailed off.
"Okay, I'll go with you." Ximen said and Xiaoyou nodded.
"Yes, we should all go. It's safer in numbers." Meizuo added and I nodded.
"Wait, Ximen. We should think about this." Lei said as he stood up and looked at us.
"But we can't just do nothing." Ximen retorted.
"Staying here is the best way." Lei replied.
"But Ah Si is..." Meizuo trailed off.
"We all believe in Ah Si, right? We believe that he's with Shancai right now. They will be okay. Just one night. Wait until tomorrow." Lei said.
"We'll go find them tomorrow morning." Ximen told Xiaoyou and she nodded. I walked to the dining room where Xinhui and Baihe were still seated. Meizuo held me by the shoulders, trying to calm me down.
"If I were you, I'd sleep with one eye open tonight because if something happens to Ah Si and Shancai, you two better start praying. I told you there would be hell to pay." I threatened as I walked away, Meizuo following behind me.

I watched as Shuijing walked away with Meizuo holding her hand, I smiled, knowing that they had made up. Ximen gave me a look and I nodded. He smiled as he held Xiaoyou.
"She's joking right? There's no way she'd do that." Xinhui said.
"Yeah, she's all talk anyway. She thinks she can threaten us just because she's an heiress." Baihe prodded which caused me and Ximen to look at them, they were unaware that we were still listening.
"She's not even that pretty, Jing is way prettier." Xinhui said and Baihe nodded.
"Hey! Shuijing is very pretty and very nice too! Don't talk about her like that! She's my friend!" Xiaoyou defended but they just both scoffed.
"You better be careful about what you say about Shuijing." Ximen threatened. They all turned to Ximen who glared at them.
"Why?" Baihe stupidly asked.
"She said it herself. She's worse than Ah Si and she's not kidding." I quietly answered and Ximen nodded in agreement. Xiaoyou looked confused.
"Really? Shuijing seems so sweet and nice." She pointed out.
"She is and she's like a little sister to us but when she gets really mad, she's ruthless. So don't take her threats lightly or you'll end up sleeping with the fishes at this point." Ximen spat as he walked away with Xiaoyou. I walked away and headed upstairs to get some sleep, leaving the two girls there shocked.
